Everything was delicious
Sarah O.

We ordered a lot of food , everything was delicious from the egg roles to the pad Thai , normally I don't order pad Thai because I don't like sweet . But theirs is more of a savory taste . We enjoyed everything. And the staff was very friendly. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area!

4 Pieces Chicken Spring Roll Combination Fried Rice Tom Kha Hot Pot Soup

We have been to Royal Thai Bistro a few times when visiting Big Bear, we like to order the seafood hot soup and combination fried rice. We are a family of three and were able to share the soup, fried rice & an order of chicken spring rolls. The food overall is good and has flavor. The service is always relatively quick and we've had no bad experiences with the service. The ambiance is casual, there is a lot of indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. There was a sign that stated dogs are welcome for the outdoor seating, so we are look forward to visiting with our pups one day!

Chicken satay close-up

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and was looking forward to it as I really like Thai food. Everything about our visit was nice and we enjoyed sitting on the front porch to watch the people come and go, but unfortunately, the food just didn't quite hit the mark. The chicken satay was very generous in portion, but was not as flavorful as hoped. The chicken pad Thai was similar, tasting fine, but not really like the pad Thai I enjoy with that unique fish sauce taste. It was a nice lunch and we enjoyed hanging out there, the service was good and we enjoyed the style and decorations in the restaurant. Really wish the food had been a little more flavorful...

Probably the best option for Thai food in the Big Bear Lake area? Having eaten a lot of Thai food in LA, I'd have to say this place is just average.

Noodle soup

I tried the noodle soup and it was just ok. Noodles were prepared really well but the broth of the soup left something to be desired. Interior was cute, staff were friendly, and service fast. Prices of were reasonable for portions served.

Mango Sticky Rice with Fresh Mango
Stan T.

We had ordered 2 mango sticky rice and they put it in the same plate. Which was kind of weird to me, because a lot of places I've been to are in separate plates. After looking at the size of the portion, it's not worth $9 each. This should have been 1 serving size, will not be coming back. Spend $20 for this.

This Thai restaurant was right in the middle of Big Bear. I was craving for rice and chicken and I had the perfect satay here! Ordered Egg plant ( beware it's spicy but love it) and Larb - pork which was just perfect. Was stuffed with the delicious food! The server was courteous and gave us adequate time to order. Service time was reasonable. The seating was comfortable and the set up was appreciated. PS the rest room here is clean! This restaurant is highly recommended! I would definitely come back here again!

Yellow curry with chicken, potato and carrots

I drove my mother, sister and brother in law to Big Bear today. I took them to Royal Thai for dinner. All of us thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Our server was a super nice young man named David from Nepal. We had a large bowl of tom yum soup, spicy chicken fried rice with basal leaves, yellow curry with chicken, potato and carrots, Yum Woo San and beef salad. All of these many dishes costed me only like $99. Forgot to take a photo of the fried rice.

Royal Thai Bistro in Big Bear Lake is a decent option if you're craving Thai food and don't want to drive, since it seems to be the only Thai game in town. The ambiance is nice with Thai art on the walls. The best thing about this spot is the cost. The prices are pretty reasonable for a resort area, so it won't break the bank. The service is fine; nothing over-the-top, but the staff is generally friendly and gets the job done. Where it loses a star is the actual food. While they offer a good selection of classics like Pad Thai and curries, the flavors tend to be a bit bland and sometimes need a little extra punch. You might have to load up on the chili sauce! All in all, it's a perfectly acceptable, affordable, and convenient choice for Thai in Big Bear, but it won't blow you away.

Tom Kha Hot Pot Soup
nick

We visited on 9/27. I'm a big fan of Thai food, but sadly this place missed the mark. The service was friendly and attentive, but the food was very disappointing. The Tom Kha soup was completely tasteless, and the coconut milk sauce had separated, which shouldn't happen if it's prepared correctly. The Pad Thai was even worse--it looked artificially red, as if food coloring was added, and had none of the authentic flavor that Pad Thai should have. Also order the red curry very flavorless. Overall, it feels like the kitchen doesn't quite know what they're doing. Unfortunately, we won't be returning--there are too many other great spots in big bear worth visiting instead.

We got pad kee now and it was . Would definitely recommend this option along with pad se eew . The tom yum was a no for my family to sour and tomato flavor.

Food excellent. Service the best. Ambience cozy. If you come to big bear. This place is a must try. Every dish is excellent. Come hungry because the servings are good. You will not be disappointed

What is better than a hot steaming bowl of noodles and soup after a long day playing in the snow?…read moreNot much. It was one of those rare occasions that we get real snow in Big Bear. I had just gotten done snowboarding and I was seriously craving some pho or some ramen. I don't want to wait the 90+ min it would take to make it down the mountain so I searched Yelp to see what was available in Big Bear (the city). The first thing that caught my eye was the photos of the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Now, I grew up eating this famous beef noodle soup so not only did I love the way it tastes, it also has layers of nostalgia for me. When you walk into the cute little restaurant, there isn't much to look at but the giant order screen is up front and enough seating for maybe 4-6 small groups of diners. I opted for a bowl of the beef noodle soup, a side of egg rolls and I also wanted popcorn chicken. My boyfriend wasn't super hungry so he ordered a side of rice and an extra side of noodles to go with the popcorn chicken. Good thing he didn't order anything more than that. The portion sizes were VERY generous. There was no way I was going to be able to eat all the beef in my bowl so I split my beef and some broth with my boyfriend. After both of us got our fill, we ended up taking about half the popcorn chicken home with us and realistically we should have taken the rest of the beef and broth I couldn't finish. I think in the future we will go in knowing that one bowl of beef noodles, plus the extra side of noodles (or two sides) would almost be enough for 3 people to split. I am very happy I found this place. The only thing I wish they had a better selection of is beverages. They only offer some canned Pepsi products and some alcoholic drinks. In summary, -the service, ambiance, and the section of drinks was Meh. -prices were on the higher side -but the portions justify the price. -the egg rolls were boring, -the popcorn chicken was good -the sauce the chicken comes with was delicious -but the noodles are DEFINITELY worth going back for!

The broth is very bland and taste like what you would get if you boil water and throw in some cheap miso paste. The chatsu was very overcooked and dry, and my bowl with "extra spicy", basically just amounted to an extra layer of chili oil. I cant even finish my bowl as its disgusting, it feels like im eating a bowl of oil with water.

Even after adding lime, herbs, hoisin, and sriracha, it never came together. The broth just didn't have enough body or character to carry the bowl. The spring rolls were springy and didn't taste particularly fresh. Service was lackadaisical at best -- slow and inattentive without being outright rude. On top of that, slow, overly intimate "baby-making" music played the entire time, which felt awkward and out of place for a casual pho spot.
