What is better than a hot steaming bowl of noodles and soup after a long day playing in the snow? Not much. It was one of those rare occasions that we get real snow in Big Bear. I had just gotten done snowboarding and I was seriously craving some pho or some ramen. I don't want to wait the 90+ min it would take to make it down the mountain so I searched Yelp to see what was available in Big Bear (the city). The first thing that caught my eye was the photos of the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Now, I grew up eating this famous beef noodle soup so not only did I love the way it tastes, it also has layers of nostalgia for me. When you walk into the cute little restaurant, there isn't much to look at but the giant order screen is up front and enough seating for maybe 4-6 small groups of diners. I opted for a bowl of the beef noodle soup, a side of egg rolls and I also wanted popcorn chicken. My boyfriend wasn't super hungry so he ordered a side of rice and an extra side of noodles to go with the popcorn chicken. Good thing he didn't order anything more than that. The portion sizes were VERY generous. There was no way I was going to be able to eat all the beef in my bowl so I split my beef and some broth with my boyfriend. After both of us got our fill, we ended up taking about half the popcorn chicken home with us and realistically we should have taken the rest of the beef and broth I couldn't finish. I think in the future we will go in knowing that one bowl of beef noodles, plus the extra side of noodles (or two sides) would almost be enough for 3 people to split. I am very happy I found this place. The only thing I wish they had a better selection of is beverages. They only offer some canned Pepsi products and some alcoholic drinks. In summary, -the service, ambiance, and the section of drinks was Meh. -prices were on the higher side -but the portions justify the price. -the egg rolls were boring, -the popcorn chicken was good -the sauce the chicken comes with was delicious -but the noodles are DEFINITELY worth going back for! read more

Save your money. I paid 70$ for two miso ramens 1 with an extra egg, 1 Pepsi and an order of spicy dumplings. The broth is very bland and taste like what you would get if you boil water and throw in some cheap miso paste. The chatsu was very overcooked and dry, and my bowl with "extra spicy", basically just amounted to an extra layer of chili oil. Ok I am impressed. I was not expecting this to be good, but I've been slowly changing my mind/expectations about food in BB!!! To be fair, I quickly went through the reviews and it seemed like the general consensus was that the ramen was not good so I ordered the popcorn chicken and spicy dumplings. The popcorn chicken was nice and crispy. Perfectly salted too. The spicy dumplings barely had any spice and are very gingery (which I love). Will be back next time I want a snack. More like a 3.5, but I'm rounding up. Immediately was drawn in by the cute art on the window outside. Restaurant is cute and quaint. Love the mix matched wood panels and the tea fountain drinks. There was a constant stream of people coming and out, ordering and dining in. For where you're at, I can't say there's that much competition, but it's definitely a Taiwanese owned establishment and not a traditional ramen place like most people would expect, if it wasn't obvious from some of the menu offerings like popcorn chicken too. We got the Taiwanese Beef Noodle and shared it since we were snacking and traveling all day. It comes with tender beef topped with crisp veggies, served in their bone broth soup. Comes with a hard boiled egg (not the gooey seasoned ramen egg, but just a regular hard boiled egg), lots of corn and green onion. It is a rich, slightly sweet, slight spicy broth and the beef is tender. Noodles are the egg noodles, thinner and with a slight chew. Not bad. I want to give credit to Big Bear for introducing its locals to some traditional Asian meals that are highly popular down the mountain. I was definitely excited to have tried this noodle bar. If you are a ramen lover and have enjoyed HiroNori, Ramen Mura, etc. this is what you should know: The ramen served here is not going to be authentic. The chashu is not the tender, carmelized pork that you get. My egg was hard boiled and cold. The broth was not rich and was a little thin in consistency. I imagined it as if it were my first attempt of making ramen at home. This is what I would get. I believe this is why it's called a "noodle bar" and not a ramen shop. There is room for improvement. The number of Asian restaurants is few and far between in Big Bear when compared to LA/OC, but this is a nice gem of a surprise we stumbled upon. You can either order with the staff or at the kiosk. Apparently you can ask to sample the broth, but we weren't aware of this when we placed the order as the staff of two were busy completing orders. We tried the Spicy Taiwanese and Non-Spicy Taiwanese Beef (the only difference being the chili oil they put in), Miso and Popcorn chicken. The Taiwanese beef had good flavor, not super strong but not light either. The beef was tender and not overly fatty. There were delicious, melt in your mouth pieces of tendon. AND it seemed like it was neverending! The Miso flavor was decent. Chasu was a bit on the leaner side. My son seemed to like it, so that was good enough for me. I'm more accustomed to the flavors of Shin Shen Gumi and Hiro Nori down the hill. Lastly, the popcorn chicken. Parking in this area can get pretty tricky during the busy season, but it's never been much of a hassle if you don't drive though the village. The ambiance is relaxed. There's a kiosk where you can place an order or go to the counter and place it with a person. The kiosk was pretty easy, the display was large and self explanatory. The food was great. The spicy wontons weren't as spicy as I usually get, but they were delicious! Loads of garlic and vinegar flavor. The ramen was good and my husband liked his rice plate. The portions are pretty generous, my husband though his bowl could have been bigger...but he's a giant. The prices aren't too bad considering their location and quality of the food. The staff was super friendly and they kept the place tidy by picking up dishes frequently. I was surprised to find a place like this in Big Bear. Came with some friends for an afternoon snack and had the popcorn chicken and the spicy wontons. Service was a little slow for the amount of people in the restaurant but everything was made hot and fresh.
