I would not come back. This place is pretty run down, which isn't usually a problem but here the food matches the ambiance. I feel bad saying anything bad but it was so overpriced for food we really couldn't finish. The service was good at least.

We had a cozy and intimate dining experience, given we were the only ones in the restaurant. The service was excellent, and the staff are so kind and friendly. Our server even gave us some sake on the house since we had to wait awhile for our food (which we didn't mind). The food was pretty good, I liked the tempura and the fried rice, but teriyaki chicken wasn't great. The prices did seem a bit high. Overall a decent dining experience.

It got worse the longer it sat

This place went so down hill, they serve this as "fresh sushi". We just paid and walked out they were mad we didn't eat.

The food came fast, the waitress was friendly and the food was decent for Sushi in the Mountains. The only reason why I left 4 stars versus 5 was because they were out of a lot of food. We would definitely come back

Sashimi chicken teriyaki combo (came with rice and miso soup - not pictured)

We came to eat at 9:30pm on a Monday night. Despite almost being closed, the staff was incredibly welcoming and pleasant. The food took a while to come out, but it was because it was fresh and made to order. We ordered the vegetable udon, sashimi and chicken teriyaki combo, and negimaki beef (our absolute favorite and sooooo good). It appeared that the restaurant was being run by three older adults, and you could tell that even though the service was slower than the average sushi place, everything was delicious and made with love. The restaurant was clean, peaceful and welcoming and I recommend it to anyone who wants some excellent teriyaki and udon. We will definitely visit again.

    BUG IN MY FOOD

BUG IN MY FOOD Worst Japanese- or any type of restaurant- I've ever been to. Took an hour to get our super simple order for take out. We saw people leave and get out of their seat because they hadn't been served and the place wasn't even that busy. Sushi guy was standing around doing nothing so it's not like they were under staffed. BUT THATS NOT EVEN THE WORST PART No no no. I get back to eat the food at my apartment and its a ridiculously small unseasoned dish that I could've made in 5 minutes for $2. I'm half way done eating and I thankfully- THANKFULLY spot a huge bug/beetle before I EAT IT. LITERALLY A HUGE BUG. IN MY FOOD. You would think, you would fucking think that in the hour they took to prepare this fine meal they would check for bugs or idk something. Maybe add a single veggie or a garnish or seasoning other than a borderline roach. But no. Literally ruined my life. Thanks a lot.

Authentic Japanese cuisine! Although the restaurant is somewhat dated it is cozy and comfortable. We were welcomed immediately and seated at the window table. We ordered vegetarian rolls, agedashi tofu, udon and vegetable tempura. Everything tasted fresh and the fried items were lightly breaded. Everything was clean with respect to the table wear, plates and glasses. The sushi rolls looked fresh that were delivered to other tables. We went on a Saturday evening in February and there were about 5 other tables dining. We were happy to give it a try and not fight the village waits which were running as much as 90 minutes. We had a great experience. We do not understand the some of the low ratings as our experience was pleasant and tasty.

This restaurant is truly exceptional! The hibachi dishes were incredibly delicious, evoking memories of Japan. The owners' warm hospitality transported me back to the heart of Japan. If it were possible, I'd gladly award them a 10-star rating. I'm definitely planning to return. I wholeheartedly endorse this establishment to everyone. Ps: I love Yuki-San energy!

You're part of the fam as soon as you walk in through the giant shark mouth. It can be a little overwhelming for a first time visitor with its mix of regulars and first timers. There is a winding line that jumps across the main aisle when it gets long, and sometimes goes out the door on busy days. Just ask anyone and they'll help you figure it out. They all had that same experience their first time in this non-traditional order system. The bro behind the bar will invite you to order a drink while you wait in line to order your food, which you can also do at one of the kiosks after the line jump. When you get to the front, you order from one of three giant screens you scroll through to pick your food and drinks, pay with your card and wait for the staff to tell you your order has washed up on the beach. I've tried several of their bows but have settled on the Pele bowl, usually with a cucumber base and only one scoop of rice. They have beef, chicken and ahi in a wide variety of flavors, and again, if you're not sure, ask a staff member and they're happy to help you through the process. They have small waffles as a base option but I have not tried those. I'm sure they're good. There is a reason they're consistently ranked one of the top restaurants nationwide -- yes, poke on a mountain top -- unlike anywhere else you may have it.

When you enter, you order on a touchscreen and then they'll call your name and/or number for your drinks first then your food and you walk up to the counter, get your food and then sit wherever you want - like at In&Out! I highly recommend getting their smoothies since they are DELICIOUS! Think tropical blended drinks but without the alcohol. So refreshing and you can still do the curvy drive up/down the mountain! Their poke bowls aren't as amazing as I remember sadly. They are a little too over the top in terms of strong thick sauces and bold overpowering flavors. Their pulled pork bowl was still yummy though despite all of their rice in all of our 3 bowls being a little undercooked (I prefer the fluffy sticky rice) So 5 stars for ambiance, 5 stars for service, 5 stars for drinks and 3.5 stars for food imho. Too bad I can't give 4.5 stars.

What is better than a hot steaming bowl of noodles and soup after a long day playing in the snow?…read moreNot much. It was one of those rare occasions that we get real snow in Big Bear. I had just gotten done snowboarding and I was seriously craving some pho or some ramen. I don't want to wait the 90+ min it would take to make it down the mountain so I searched Yelp to see what was available in Big Bear (the city). The first thing that caught my eye was the photos of the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Now, I grew up eating this famous beef noodle soup so not only did I love the way it tastes, it also has layers of nostalgia for me. When you walk into the cute little restaurant, there isn't much to look at but the giant order screen is up front and enough seating for maybe 4-6 small groups of diners. I opted for a bowl of the beef noodle soup, a side of egg rolls and I also wanted popcorn chicken. My boyfriend wasn't super hungry so he ordered a side of rice and an extra side of noodles to go with the popcorn chicken. Good thing he didn't order anything more than that. The portion sizes were VERY generous. There was no way I was going to be able to eat all the beef in my bowl so I split my beef and some broth with my boyfriend. After both of us got our fill, we ended up taking about half the popcorn chicken home with us and realistically we should have taken the rest of the beef and broth I couldn't finish. I think in the future we will go in knowing that one bowl of beef noodles, plus the extra side of noodles (or two sides) would almost be enough for 3 people to split. I am very happy I found this place. The only thing I wish they had a better selection of is beverages. They only offer some canned Pepsi products and some alcoholic drinks. In summary, -the service, ambiance, and the section of drinks was Meh. -prices were on the higher side -but the portions justify the price. -the egg rolls were boring, -the popcorn chicken was good -the sauce the chicken comes with was delicious -but the noodles are DEFINITELY worth going back for!

The broth is very bland and taste like what you would get if you boil water and throw in some cheap miso paste. The chatsu was very overcooked and dry, and my bowl with "extra spicy", basically just amounted to an extra layer of chili oil. I cant even finish my bowl as its disgusting, it feels like im eating a bowl of oil with water.

All the surrounding tables I guess is only for Ramen and non grilling food items as they dont have a grill in them. It was hectic and chaotic in here. Watching the 2 waitresses not only handling the food orders at the tables, but also making drinks, taking orders, bringing the food out, handling the front desk, to clearing the tables. Real props to them for still providing excellent customer service with each of their tables. Their food comes out fast, and they all tasted amazing. And their drinks too look visually stunning and tasted great. We ordered the following foods and drink: 1. Gyu set- comes with several meats that you cook on the fire. High quality. Great taste. Extremely tender and flavorful. 2. Short ribs- they were so good we had to get another order of them. 3. Sushi taco- 3 different types of seafood. Tasted really good, ended.up getting 2 orders of them. 4. Spicy tuna crispy wanton- lots of spicy tuna. Love the flavors. The crunch of the taco was really good. 5. Chicken karaage- crispy and tender. The sauce it came with was so good. 6. Tempura shrimp- 3 peices only. It was ok. A great appetizer to start with. 7. Spicy pork bao- bao bun was amazing. Pork was soft and tender. Good ratio of meat to bao. 8. Smoked brisket bao- not as good as the spicy pork. But was still really good. 9. Hand roll was also really good. Drinks: 1. White peach sake sangria- this drink was so light and refreshing. Definitely hit me by the time I finished it though. 2. Yuzu pineapple express- our favorite drink by far. Very pineapple forward. Sweet, tart and refreshing. 3. Tokyo tea- the midori made it look so pretty. The taste itself was very good as well. 4. Rising sun- Japanese whiskey. It was very whiskey forward, but it was also very smooth. I love how they had a little bit of everything here. Pork, chicken, raw fish, sushi, bbq, bao buns, Ramen, a whole bunch of different appetizers. Everything that we tried was really good, and put a smile of happiness on our face as we took a bite and tried them. There's a little bit of everything for everyone here. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks. It was not cheap. Every little thing added up. But we did order a lot of food and drinks. But everything was really good. Would definitely come back again!!

The restaurant at the time was not very busy and we were seated quickly. Upon arriving I excused myself to use the restroom while my party started looking over the menu and considered ordering. Our expectation was to dine in for kbbq which is primarily advertised. When I had returned I was informed the waiter was somewhat unclear, rushing my family to order and seemingly appearing stressed. We had all wanted to clarify to be sure the order was correct and upon learning it wasn't we kindly asked to be switched over to the side we'd be able to grill our meat and enjoy the banchan side dishes. The waiter clearly became upset and ordered us to take our leave of the first dining section we were seated and switch to the grill section. As we followed we remained calm but confused as to why he was so irritated. The miscommunication stemmed from his lack of patience in explaining the menu to us as it was our first time dining there. He explained everything very quickly and that lead to the misunderstanding of having ordered a dish he had recommended but we weren't necessarily intending to order. Later having being sat down at the kbbq section he proceeded to grill the meat for us and deliver the side dishes, however he deliberately began to rudely toss the dishes which is where I drew the line and exchanged words with him expressing that was not necessary. We did not want him around after that fact. All in all to say the service was not amiable. When I also brought it up to the owners (I presume) it quickly became clear there would be no need to bring it to the waiters attention as he came over looking for confrontation in front of them and other patrons whilst I was voicing my concerns. Very disappointing. On the matter of food we enjoyed the freshness of the vegetable side dishes and the duck meat that was ordered. The acorn jelly was a nice touch as the owner explained how it was made to us. Nonetheless it was not worth going back for.

The duck BBQ and acorn jelly are so good I had to come back again with my family. The location is literally in the middle of nowhere. I asked the owner about the banchan and acorn jelly, and he told me everything is made in-house, which you can definitely taste. This time we ordered the duck BBQ (오리 구이), seasoned deodeok (양념 더덕 구이), and acorn jelly (도토리묵). The grilled duck with the deodeok was the perfect combination. You can taste the pure, natural flavors of the ingredients. Nothing artificial or overly processed. Usually after eating out, I'm chugging water all day because the food is too salty or MSG-heavy. Not here. The flavors reminded me of real Korean home cooking! The space is very spacious and comfortable, making it great for a relaxed meal. They're only open on Mondays, Fridays, and weekends, so I'd recommend calling ahead to double-check before going. The staff was friendly, and the owner even stopped by our table to ask how everything tasted. Generous portions and amazing food! Pairs perfectly with makgeolli. If you're in the area, it's absolutely worth the stop.
