We brought our 2 labs that don't really go out often. So when we saw the. Patio open we just went back there to get out of the way without realizing how rude that was to not check in at the front. It's important to note that this rating has nothing to do with the food, as we ended up leaving before ordering. My low rating is entirely based on the customer service experience within the first few minutes of arriving. I came in with my dog, fully aware that we would need to sit outside. Since most restaurants still have you check in first, I stood at the podium where there was a sign indicating a server would check in guests. After standing there briefly, an employee asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. I said yes, and he responded by telling us to "go up the ramp." Not even in a friendly manner. Me being me I just wanted to verify that I didn't have to check in as it wasn't just myself, my party we're not all with me ..wanting to make sure I was following the correct process, I politely asked if I didn't need to check in first. His response came across as annoyed, basically repeating that he had already told us to go up the ramp. The interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and rude. There's a difference between being direct and making guests feel unwelcome. I'm usually not someone who leaves negative reviews over one interaction, but both my husband and brother-in-law also noticed the attitude, as they were close enough to hear and it immediately made us uncomfortable enough to leave. Before leaving, I did take a quick look at the patio area and noticed it was very shaded with leaves scattered around from the wind, which didn't make the outdoor dining setup feel especially inviting either. Overall, this was disappointing because I had chosen this spot to celebrate my 30th birthday and was really looking forward to enjoying a big, delicious pancake. Talk about déjà-vu, walking in here just brings back memories of a time in the long long ago, then I found out I did come here 15 years ago! When this place already looked like it's been here for ages. A staple to the Village, the only thing that's different is the menu; now it's all accessible via QR code rather than menus that's passed through hands from everywhere. If you need glasses to read, bring them. My parents were having trouble navigating the menu without their glasses through the phone. Even with the biggest font it still is not the same scanning with your eyes rather than our fingers. Plenty of breakfast items to choose from, the blueberry pancakes seem to be where it's at. Tons of blueberries and a stack is more than most places give. The waffles were not as good as their pancakes. And the hashbrowns outshined the omelette but it's such a cozy restaurant you would eat the warm orange slice on your plate and smile as if grandma is still around and sane. The wait here can be an two hour wait easily if you come on the weekend. I didn't eat pancakes or the pie, so it's possible those are good and this could've deserved a higher score. I ordered the Spanish omelette, and everything on my plate was very average. Nothing was bad, but I wouldn't wait more than 20 minutes for this meal. This is a go to spot for us when we're staying at our house here in Big Bear. Like most of the local favorites it's a small building packed with big flavor! The service is always good and you cannot find better comfort food on a cold snowy day!!! The inside is rustic and reminds me of a mountain cabin . What a cozy and delicious breakfast joint. Located in the downtown village in Big Bear. Please know it's cash only but they do have an ATM if needed. They also have a private parking lot. No dogs allowed inside. The portions were large. I was only able to finish half of my country fried streak. The gravy is absolutely delicious and rich. This is a great place to stop for a warm hearty meal after a chilly day. And the service is fairly fast for a place that serves such hearty large portions. I upgraded my Pastrami Hash with a Biscuit and Gravy for $0.69, but it was unmemorable and I didn't finish it. The Pastrami Hash, however, was great, and I highly recommend it. The Cinnamon French Toast was also excellent - sweet but not overly so, with a delicious, gooey center like a cinnamon roll. My wife ordered the Pastrami Burger, which was quite good, and I also recommend it if you're not in the mood for breakfast all day! You won't be disappointed. My sister ordered the Bear's Best (slow-cooked shredded beef on sourdough with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and onions). She said it was less than satisfactory and a bit dry, but I can't personally recommend it since I didn't try it. She was the only one who didn't enjoy her meal. We originally stopped by another place but they happened to not be pet friendly even though it was posted on their page. This place is perfectly located right in the heart of town. Also it was great that we were walking distance from it. There's a small parking lot but in the area there street parking or public lots scattered. First off, it's CASH ONLY. Signs posted and an ATM machine located right inside by the restrooms. You check in with hostess, for a Monday morning it was an about a 10 minute wait. There's inside seating and a bar area as well as separate dining area near the patio. Patio area is pretty big with covered seating. Nick who took care of us was very sweet. Menu wise, you scan it from the QR code on the table. They pretty much have everything but as it was breakfast, needed some kind of egg dish. Also the orange juice was reasonable for the size was given. Went with one of the omelette with turkey and served with their O' Brien potatoes (house potatoes) and upgraded to a biscuit and gravy and cinnamon corn bread. Both an additional fee. Also the ham sandwiches with a side of tomatoes. Plus an additional side of onion rings. Food was quite good for breakfast and didn't take long to arrive. The onion rings were crispy and served with ranch. Both the biscuits and gravy and cinnamon corn bread were excellent. I could just eat that all day. Service was really nice. Everyone was friendly down to the host and all the workers. Ended up pretty full so we didn't get to try their pies as they're known for it. It did look good inside the glass case. Had to try this spot located in the downtown Big Bear Village. On a Sunday morning we ended up turning our breakfast plans into lunch after a surprising one-hour wait. I suspect we were overlooked on the list and unless I spoke up we might have seen folks seated after us who arrived later. I believe in giving grace, so I didn't complain outwardly but the overall flow felt disorganized. Once seated inside, it took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come by and take our drink order. Its cash only which isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it's worth noting for budgeting on the fly. For the food, I ordered a bacon burger out of sheer hunger and we shared a cinnamon apple pancake to split the wait. The burger arrived with a soggy bun and didn't leave a memorable impression. The pancake, however was the bright spot--delightfully tasty. My photos aren't great because I almost forgot to snap them totally my fault not the restaurant's. Given this visit and the overall experience I'm unlikely to head back on my next Big Bear trip, though I'm sure others may have better luck depending on the day and time. If only the service could race as fast as the cinnamon spiced scent of those pancakes this place might become a comforting repeat stop. For now bring cash if you'd like to avoid the ATM fee and consider visiting earlier to hopefully catch better flow and shorter wait times. read more

Busy on weekends, we waiting about 2.5hrs to get seated. Once we got seating the staff was nice, but they weren't really attentive. We only saw our waitress twice. The food was alright, the cinnamon cornbread was interesting, & i did like how they have the syrup for the pancakes warmed up. My friend ordered a hot chocolate & the handle to the mug was cracked. The back side where we were seated wasn't the cutest, it felt a bit dirty & felt as if it may have been a storage room at some point. The other side of the restaurant was cute tho! I've tried the traditional bacon & eggs... the chicken pot pie & the pastrami sandwich with clam chowder. Every thing has been delicious. Even their pie is amazing. We have been there when there was a bit of a wait & had to wait in the snow but def worth the wait. & we go knowing there might be a wait, so the waiting is never a complaint of ours. The ambiance is just like eating in a little cabin. So cute! If you go around 10-11 it's usually not packed like it is around 8-9am. It is CASH only or there is an ATM in the lobby. I asked him what he recommended and he did not hesitate to provide options, share detail of ingredients and provided side options. My husband and I both took his recommendations. I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich, and husband ordered the chicken pot pie ,which like Emiliano said " it's the size of a football"! Since we were so happy with dinner we asked what he recommended for dessert . He shared all options and then gave us top 3 . I went with a large good and every single person throughly enjoyed their meals. I personally got the veggie burger and it was pretty basic but still tasty. Their fries had a good flavor and texture! Lightly crunchy exterior with a soft center. The staff was very friendly and understanding. I had originally ordered their tomato soup as a side for my burger and as they handed it to me I asked if it was vegetarian because I had forgot to ask earlier. They had informed me that it was not vegetarian and happily changed my side to fries instead. I really appreciate them being accommodating! Quick trip to ski at Snow Summit this weekend with my son and friends led us to a search for a solid breakfast Sunday morning. Teddy Bear Restaurant was listed #3 on Yelp for breakfast so we figured it would be a great option since it was also in the Village area where we could walk around for a bit after before heading home. Being a busy weekend, due to all the fresh snow from the prior week, we expected a little wait. Upon arrival the lot was full so we drove a couple streets over and parked in the Village free public parking lot. Meanwhile we dropped my son, Cole, and his girlfriend to check us in. By the time we walked over, we could tell it was going to be a little bit of a wait, due to so many people waiting outside in the adjacent lot. Cole said they quoted 30/40 minutes. He went to walk around while we waited for our name to be called. Meanwhile, it was quite the adventure hanging in the lot. People don't like to look for parking I guess as numerous giant vehicles and a massive truck kept kept us all entertained in watching them try to navigate and park in tiny spots, with people everywhere and banks of snow. One huge truck was incredible close to smashing into the truck next to it and the people inside that truck weren't happy. After about 40 minutes our name was called and the parking lot entertainment came to an end. But before we went in, I was thinking how this place needs a phone based check-in system. I would have happily walked the Village for 40 minutes vs. blocking the lot uncomfortably with 30 other people - keep in mind it's covered in dirty parking lot snow and tons of cars coming in and out and a few trying to park in spots way too small. Not the greatest spot to hang. That said, we'd waited and we were ready to eat. The #3 Yelp rating and some dude who walked about 20 minutes before our name was called and said 'it's worth the wait', got our expectations up. Although he said the Bison Burger was awesome, come to find out there is no Bison Burger. We tried to put our investigation caps on but nothing on the menu sounded close to 'Bison' and the waitress confirmed they didn't offer one, haha. We all ordered and drinks came out quickly. I had an OJ and coffee. The OJ was fine, nothing special. Although I did ask for a small and the waitress didn't say anything about sizes and proceeded to being me a rather big OJ. The coffee was weak. More like dark tea than coffee. Not great. And the mugs looked to be personalized with the Teddy Bear name but they were worn and mine was missing or rubbed off completely. The water and OJ cups were plastic and worn as well. Def years of wear and tear - prob time to replace them. Breakfast was a 3 for me but in Big Bear I give it a four. Nothing against Big Bear but in the past I haven't found anywhere that wows me. I had the egg breakfast and ordered over easy with bacon, house potatoes (instead of hashbrowns) and I ordered biscuits and gravy (instead of toast). Two problems - eggs over easy were liquidy and white - not cooked enough. The toast came out instead of the biscuits and it was a little burnt black on opposite side which they flipped down. They were busy so I didn't ask to fix it. But, I did realize later they upcharged for the biscuits and gravy and I had wished I'd had that instead as the toast wasn't great. Overall, I can tell it's a popular place there due to the crowds - and because it's been there for quite some time. Two takeaways: Make your staffs job better by investing in a simple mobile text system when your table is ready so people can check in and get an update to show up 10 min before. That way they can explore the Village instead of blocking the entrance and parking lot. It makes for happier customers too. Replaced used and old dishware. You charge plenty to keep your basics clean and presentable. Service was fine. Meal was okay. Eggs not great. Bacon soggy :( And didn't get my biscuits and gravy. So, actually, reversing my initial take on giving and 4 and instead sticking with my gut rating of 3. I know it was a busy weekend but all in all I think you can do better and I hope my review helps you improve and get plenty more 5s as I believe you have it in you. read more

To start, this place has the most lack-luster service I've experienced in quite some time. (We had a similar experience when we came a year ago) We came for breakfast and our waiter was very unattentive - and it was not busy when we got here. We literally only saw him when he came to get our order, when the food came out. I actually had to go ask the host for our check. When taking our order, my girlfriend asked him about what the pie selection was and he said "They are in the display case, you can go pick anything you want." - Are you F-in kidding me!!? (We want to know what they are and what the best one is!) So the reason for the 2 stars is because I am so angry about the shit service here! For the food - we got the Pastrami Hash & Eggs and the quality and portion of the food was 5 star, but everything good about our meal was severely diminished by the passive aggressive neglect of our server. First she was rudely telling that to another customer who had walked in with her dog that also just needed a minute to settle, but I knew she was talking about us. I let her know it was our dog and she repeated herself with the negative tone again like she was very annoyed by us. We considered leaving bc it didn't seem like a dog friendly place at all but my mother in law has a bad leg so we just needed to sit down somewhere and grab a quick bite. The server could've been more polite to people just walking in for the first time. Dogs are going to bark. He just needed to settle in and needed a few minutes. Again, the female server was so rude and it left a bad taste in my mouth the whole time. Dogs bark. It's like telling babies not to cry bc it's disturbing other customers. Or don't take dogs.. idk. Her tone was just so off putting. Bc she was so abrasive toward the other diner who was Asian and myself it passed my mind if this place allows for racism in their service. After reading another review saying this place denied a dad and a kid with a service dog dine in saying "we don't serve your kind" left me speechless which is why I wonder if prejudice and discrimination is well and alive at Teddy Bear Restaurant. He's the only reason we left a 25% tip. Also the bees outside on the patio were flying all over our food. The next table to us ended up all standing up and finishing their meal early. The bees actually got into their food. So if you're allergic to bee stings like me, I'd sit indoors. NOT WORTH THE WAIT! They make you wait outside in the sun until they call your name. What was supposed to be 40 minutes turned in to 2 hours. When we finally got inside, it took 30 minutes for the only waitress doing her job to take our order. All the other staff were goofing off and spilling drinks. The food itself wasnt very good either and for 20 dollars a plate with a 2.5 hour wait, it was definitely not worth it. My pancakes didnt come with syrup and the waitress never came back to bring us some or refill our drink after acknowledging we needed it. Also, this place is cash only, which is not advertised until you're there. They have an atm in the restaurant that comes with a $2.50 fee to pull cash out. The food came out very fast and was super fresh. Highly recommend the chicken pot pie. They serve breakfast all day long as well. Nice eating in one of the original restaurants at Big Bear, est. in 1944 and still going strong. Bathrooms were clean. This place is very kid friendly and had lots of options for kids. CONs: It's located in a very high traffic area so expect parking wars if you come during peak season time. We visited Teddy Bear Restaurant on New Year's Eve morning, and while I was excited for a cozy breakfast, there were a few things that left me with mixed feelings. First off, the wait was *really* long..about an hour. I get that it was New Year's Eve, but oof it was painful. It's cash-only, but there's an ATM inside, which is convenient. Everyone waits either in the parking lot or the small inside area. We chose to sit in the back patio, which is dog-friendly, so that was a nice touch, especially since we had ours with us. The bathroom situation was pretty vile. There are two restrooms, and they felt more like something you'd find at a gas station than a restaurant. Now, as for the food...while it wasn't terrible, I think the reviews set my expectations a bit too high. We tried the hash, a Benedict, and a cinnamon bun. The hash was good, but nothing that wowed me. The Benedict was decent too, but again, I've had better elsewhere. The cinnamon bun was probably the best part of the meal. The menu itself is solid, with plenty of choices. The menu all sounds delicious and I had trouble picking between a few. Looking around the area, it's probably one of the better options in Big Bear, but don't come starving or expect quick service. The place is bustling, and with the slow service and long wait, it's best to come before you expect to be super hungry. Overall, it's a solid option if you're in Big Bear, but it's not the game-changer I was hoping for / my friends / people hype it up to be. There is a shared parking lot and street parking available. Standard brunch spot with standard brunch meals. Although the pancakes, waffles, and French toast tempted me, I went with the all natural plate and it was exactly what I needed (can't go wrong with cottage cheese, nuts, fruit, and an egg). But, the highlight was the cinnamon cornbread; good texture, good texture profile, and the perfect pair to my coffee -- definitely would recommend. Packed on a Sunday morning but service was reasonably fast. It took a bit longer than ideal to get our order in and our bil to pay, but the food was prepared quickly.
