It wasnt an option but she made it herself! And it's the kind of cesar salad that I like! Right balance of cheese, anchovies and garlic so good! We were quoted a 15-25 minute wait, which somehow turned into nearly an hour. Apparently, Oakside measures time the same way airlines measure "a slight delay." We're a family of four with a well-behaved standard poodle, so we completely understood that our seating options were limited. What we didn't understand was watching two other families with dogs arrive after us and get seated well before us, along with what felt like half of Big Bear. Our "table is ready" text finally arrived 53 minutes after we joined the waitlist. If the real wait is an hour, just say an hour. At least then we could have taken our dog for a hike, grabbed lunch somewhere else, and possibly returned in time for our table. read more

Had dinner here last night with my fiancé and both of us were so thoroughly impressed by every aspect of our experience - that I just had to log-in to write this review. There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine. read more

We had a skirt steak and salmon as our entrees with side dishes of white grilled corn, baked potato and roasted brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries, and two cocktails. The service was top tier! Josue was above and beyond. He was busy but made us feel like we were the only ones here. The only time we felt a little uncomfortable was the busser said we may have to share our table! Its one of those restaurants that its better not to skip and believe in great feedbacks...We came here for brunch but we didnt know they dont offer brunch and from 11am their lunch menu is on.So, they were so sweet and welcoming and asked where we want to sit. Restaurant has patio, balcony and main dining room which we chose to dine in. A friendly lady approached us and explained the menu and gave us great ideas about beers. We ended up to order potato in skin filled with cheese, sour cream, green onion and yummy bacon. Also, we got chicken wings which was super fresh and also shrimp cocktails. Plus, I paid a bit more for french onion soup without cheese, omg what a delight! Quite steep for the soup, but hey I did not cook. Sometimes i take a break haha. We were walking around the village and decided to stop in here for dinner. The restaurant was pretty crowded, which is a great thing. It was a rather chilly evening so we requested to sit indoors. This restaurant looks extremely upscale, but the servers and the employees are all down to earth very gracious and willing to help. We were promptly seated and asked for a drink order. When our server returned with the drinks, he asked if we had any questions about the menu. We didn't and placed our orders. My wife ordered the Oakside burger and sweet potato fries, and I ordered the French dip along with sweet potato fries. The wife thoroughly enjoyed her burger. It was cooked to perfection. The bun was fresh and the condiments crisp. She also really liked her sweet potato fries. They were hot and freshly prepared. I ordered the beef dip that was served on a unique roll that was outstanding. It really set off the whole sandwich. The Ajou was great, and the fresh horseradish was on point. The entire sandwich tasted amazing. Also, I enjoyed the sweet potato fries. This was a very nice dining experience. Got up to Big Bear today for a long Weekend, and after a long day we were just craving really good salad and a beer for my man! So very glad we chose Oakside. It's, um, March 19th and we sat on the rooftop outside! Yup! Great ambiance with a view of entering Big Bear and the beautiful moon tonight. Shelby, the manager, was super friendly, sweet and helped us with our meal and Kalley was such a pleasant, high-energy waitress who were both great. Salads- well - hit the spot and more!! Jeremie's Caesar salad was topped with delicious and juicy chicken, flavorful house made croutons and Caesar dressing. Side of garlic bread- yum! Mine! All the treats! The kale apple bacon salad- minus the kale (because I'm just a romaine kinda gal). Sweet dried cranberries and green apples, perfect feta crumbles and bacon, with this amazing apple cider vineagrette! And that superb touch of garlic bread. (I could have eaten a whole loaf). I'd like that dressing in a bottle please! We didn't stay long bc we had people arriving, but will definitely be back. For my drink, I tried their version of a whiskey sour which included cinnamon thyme syrup. For my appetizer I tried their "cowboy bites" which were deep fried balls covered in bread crumbs & inside it has bacon, jalapeño, cream cheese and corn. 10/10 would recommend. For my entree I tried the Oakside burger with Swiss cheese which was also delicious. My only complaint is that I asked for my patty well done but it was still pink. Instead, it was slathered in a grotesque dollop of cold, thick tartar sauce right out of the jar. The taste was acidic, as if it had gone bad. I was afraid to eat it. The "sauteed" broccoli and cauliflower seemed to be steamed with a dash of some kind of seasoning, but clearly, it never saw a saute pan. The "jasmine" rice was just a scoop of white rice--plain white rice. I was hosting important friends, so I could not raise a fuss. I pushed around the "food" on my plate, made polite conversation, and went home hungry. Managers like to appear friendly by replying on Yelp. When arrived the waiter offered for us to sit inside or outside .BUT if we decided to stay outside they warned us that they had harmless hornets outside and that they do not sting they even stated that they've had people allergic away at them and they are harmless. French Onion Soup: Delicious but a little salty. Oakside Street Tacos (steak): Spicy. Meat was a little dry, but the flavor was good. The Butcher Shop Pizza: Ok crust. A little spicy from the sausages. Portion a little on the small side for $24. Everyone enjoyed it as reheated leftovers. Pulled Pork Sandwich: This was ok. After a nice walk through The Village, my boyfriend and I stopped by Oakside for an early dinner. We loved the cozy ambiance, there were options to be seated outdoor and indoor. Oakside has officially become our go-to restaurant in Big Bear Lake Village. Ray and I went there for a nice dinner, and from start to finish it was an excellent experience. We chose to sit upstairs on the second floor, which was perfect. It's truly an adults-only vibe -- quiet, relaxed, and free from the noise of large groups or families with kids. Downstairs is great for bigger groups, but upstairs is ideal if you're looking to actually enjoy conversation and unwind. Ray ordered the Ahi poke Steak, and it was phenomenal. Perfectly prepared and full of flavor. He also had the Brussels sprouts and corn, which were very tasty and paired beautifully with the ahi. I had the Black and Blue Burger with sweet potato fries, and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was so big I could only eat half -- rich, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. We sat in the bar area, and our server Kayla was wonderful. She was also the bartender, and Ray said she made an excellent dirty martini. I tried a double IPA -- something new for me -- and it was really good. Kayla was an absolute sweetheart. You can tell she genuinely cares about people enjoying their drinks and meals, and it's clear why customers keep coming back. Service like that truly makes a difference. Oakside is one of those places you might accidentally walk past when you first enter the village because you want to see what else is around -- but now that we know it, this will be a must-stop every time we're in Big Bear. The overall vibe is amazing, it has this kind of Lord Of the Rings vibe which is why my and my fiancée were looking forward to dining here for a few reasons. 1- we are eloping in big bear early next year so we were scoping our restaurants that fit our vibe. 2- they allowed dogs 3 - the food looked delicious Once I had gotten in there were two hosts but it took almost 10-15 min for them to seat someone. One would come up then disappear then the other would come up and then disappear. There were about 3 other groups waiting with me. This could just be the way it is but .. there was plenty of seating inside and me and my fiancée with our two dogs were outside so I was not sure why it did take so long. I also asked the host when they were able to seat us if she could take the menus outside to my fiancée who was by the fire to stay warm and she seemed annoyed by it but .. it was a little cold soooo understandable. I needed to use the restroom and did not wan to lose my place in line so that's why I asked to do that. The. I got outside and noted my Fiancée was sitting at a table and not the fire ... My fiancée the let me know that the host told her she could not sit there with the dogs... it was a high table which the dogs could not even get close to the fire to begin with ... so it did not make sense but if those are the rules of the house fine... we asked about heat lamps and with annoyance the host told us we don't do those here. After this we began to really question if this is where we wanted to eat , then our waitress came out and she was really sweet and we asked about the heat lamps again and she was nicer in letting us know they did not do heat lamps. So sadly we decided this was not where we wanted to eat. It was surprising to me ... in a place that gets cold and clients who have dogs you aren't prepared for outside seating at all? I will say... don't let this sway you from trying the food.. it did look really good. But I'd you are looking for a dog friendly restaurant where you can stay warm, and enjoy good food at the same time.. I'm not sure Oakside will be able to accommodate you. read more

They very thoughtfully sat us in a corner table to keep us at a peaceful distance from other people with pups, I loved that. We greedily ordered two apps for just two people but we had no regrets haha the loaded potato skins and the ahi poke were both really great! Although I did squeeze a lime wedge from my drink on my poke to make it a little better. They did not skimp on any of the ingredients here. For entrees I got the Oakside burger and my boyfriend got the chicken mushroom ravioli. This id unfortunately where I cut a star. The fries with the burger were under fried and a bit soggy, and the ground ravioli filling had an odd texture that wasn't too pleasant. Sauce was great though and my burger was well made! Our drinks were strong and delicious as well! Got a blueberry mule and my boyfriend got a prickly pear margarita. Both highly recommend! We came here on a Saturday night and won't be coming back. The only thing we liked was the cowboy bites appetizer. Let's start with the flat bread pizza - no flavor and cheese not melted (saucy mama had better pizza) My husband asked for the servers rec which was the buffalo chicken sandwich sub sour dough- came on floppy untoasted bread , couldnt finish. I got the "oakside special" beef tornado which was a horribly glorified meatloaf with hard barley mashed Yukon potato with not even a shake of pepper. Went up to Big Bear Lake area to escape the heat from the Valley. Stopped in here for lunch. On the main drag in Big Bear Lake. Nice indoor and outdoor seating area. It can get a bit chilly on the patio areas since they do not have an individual heat lamp next to your table. The center fire pit was a nice ambience but it doesn't provide much heat. We ordered the Black and Blue burger with shoe string friends. The patio. Is packed with coarse black pepper and served with melted blue cheese. Friends were nice and crispy. The corn chowder was delicious, Started off with the beet and blueberry salad that had no beets wait staff quickly took care of that brought beets. Had the scallops, scallops were severely under seasoned and smelled like ammonia sent them back. My lady had the fish and chips undercooked mushy and the french fries tasted like grease and that they've been sitting there for quite a while. My cousin had the salmon which was subpar at best. The raspberry lemon drop tasted like sour lemon. Manager came and tried to fix the situation but it doesn't change the fact that we had crappy food at what should have been a nice restaurant. We were told an hour but it only took 20min. They do have a bar area and it's open seating. However outdoor deck was only cocktails. We decided to wait and enjoyed sitting in the dining room. I got the ahi tuna burger lettuce wrapped and if you see my picture, it was a lot of lettuce!! But I didn't mind. I ate it like a salad and the sweet potato fries were delicious and very generous! My friend got the pork sliders which had 3 sliders and she said they were very good. Would totally go back because other items looked good as well. Our server was ok. Delicious as always! One of our go-to's for years and it never disappoints! Such an amazing selection of food, all of which are so tasty! The wagyu sliders were so tender and flavorful, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the mac and cheese was amazing! Definitely try to get reservations a few days in advance, we got really lucky with bar seating! We love the downstairs and upstairs seating option, as well as the fire pit out front and the patio. My husband and I dined at Oakside for our one year wedding anniversary. It was beyond perfect - we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate. The atmosphere is so beautiful and charming, I loved it. Every detail from the menus to the water goblets felt upscale and luxurious.
