It used to be we only went to a Black Bear Diner for our free birthday meal. Now that we're on the road all the time, we love that we can find a Black Bear Diner at some TA locations. These, of course, allow for truck parking! Whenever we're heading out of California during the day and going through Barstow, stopping here has become a must. We seldom ever have to wait for a table, but if we do, counter service is always a quick option. The coffee is good and hits the spot. We usually always order breakfast, although there are lots of menu options; breakfast is available all day. My husband usually orders The Grizz, which includes everything plus pancakes. I love the "little less" entrees because of their smaller size and price. My favorite is the chicken sausage scramble. The food is good and pretty consistent at this location. The service is also good. I would say it's actually improved since we started stopping here. They also have some amazing desserts to eat there or take to go, along with a small area of Black Bear clothing and souvenirs.

We loved our first visit to a Black Bear Diner! Even being one location of a chain of 140+, this adorable, cozy roadside diner was a terrific experience. Yes, it's attached to a TA Travel Center, and you're greeted by a fine display of bear-themed merch (including the brand Lazy One, which has a really cute collection of cartoon bear images on everything from PJs to aprons). We were greeted and waited our turn to be seated by a very friendly staff member. It's a big place with very pacific-northwest vibes. As we settled into our log booth, my eyes went wide for the dessert menu- I was definitely saving room for one of their personal coconut cream pies (okay, I needed up having to get to go because I was so full). We ordered the raspberry iced tea ("bottomless") and a prosecco. Both were great. For our brunch food I had the bacon avocado Benedict and it was perfect. Maybe the best hollandaise I've ever had (perfectly lemony and not too thick, served hot over pretty little stacks of English muffin halves, sautéed leaves of spinach, ripe tomato slices, thick bacon, avocado, and perfectly poached eggs. It was served with a small dish of very fresh fruit. My partner got the chicken fried steak and eggs over easy with grits and a giant California biscuit with gravy. And yes, later, the coconut cream pie was everything I'd hoped for. The whipped cream topping was a bit Cool-Whippy but I liked it. The fresh toasted coconut was a lovely touch. Super service, very friendly. Clean bathrooms where the bear art continues. We can't wait to eat at a Black Bear Diner again!

Best ham steak, eggs, home fries. Best chicken and waffle. Best service from Ebony, Gloria and Gina!

I'm back six years later! We still drive from Orange County, CA, to Vegas two to three times a year and always look for different places to have breakfast. Depending on when we're hungry, we sometimes stop in Victorville, and other times, we wait until Yermo. This time it was the Lenwood exit before Barstow. It was Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m., so we knew it would be busy, and it was. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated, but they were very organized. We would have opted for the counter, but we like a relaxing meal, so a table better suits our desires. The service was as good as you can get when you're busy. It was super friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, and the portions were good-sized. Depending on how much you eat, you can order almost everything family style and share dishes. Breakfast, like everywhere, is getting pricy. Plan to spend at least $20 per person. Funny how 10 years, $20 for breakfast for two seemed expensive. This is a bit of a touristy area, though, so prices might be a little higher than usual.

We stop here every time on our way into Cali. We love the food and the atmosphere. Everyone is great lots of friendly servers. We love the connecting store in case you forget anything they have everything. We always buy something from their little gift area . They have the best waffles so fluffy and just delicious. I get on every time we stop here. Very friendly family oriented restaurant so make this a must when you are driving on into California.

After last night in Kingman, I wasn't sure about here today, but I'm glad we did. We had Ebony, and she introduced herself right away, and got our drinks quickly. She came back and got our food order. We got our food. She checked on us, to see if things were good. She's the best server that we have had in the 2,650 miles. I would highly recommend this Black Bear diner, and ask for Ebony..

The chicken was very bland and very heavy on the batter, the batter itself was very much overcooked and very hard. Talk to the manager regarding the issue. It seems like she didn't really want to provide a solution. She was just giving me an excuse on why the chicken turned out the way it did and then she has no control on what it's done in the restaurant.

You absolutely must try Black Bear Diner-Barstow. The food is amazing and plenty of cool stuff to look at during your time spent having lunch, dinner or just a snack . The service was great both times we ate there. The Ambiance is really fun!

On our latest stop here on the way from Las Vegas to Redlands, I enjoyed a Turkey Club Sandwich on lightly toasted Sourdough with Avocado added on request and French Fries, preceded by a Cup of Chili. The sandwich was cool to the touch and very satisfying, with large pieces of tomato just oozing with juice, and a nice crunch coming from the bacon inside. Fries were suitably crispy. And, the Chili, primarily composed of beef and Pinto Beans, had a nice kick to it without being overpowering. Diane had a compose your own 2-Egg Classic Combo with Scrambled Eggs, extra crispy bacon, a Pancake, and very crispy Hash Browns. She was pleased with it. Service was very good, and portions large.

For years I passed on eating here because I was always in a hurry to go North or South to my ultimate destination I finally stopped because I needed a rest and sat down to order. Received the friendliest service. And the food was as good as all other black bear diners. I'm glad I did not rush past this time. I enjoyed the meal and was glad I stopped to smell the bacon

Me and my husband, along with the a group of friends were in your place of business last Saturday night to watch Red Rabbit, who we love and follow. Around 12 or 1230 we noticed some commotion at the bar. Much to our surprise, your "new manager" was causing quite the issue with his boyfriend. Earlier in the night, he seemed to be actually managing the bar, however, at this time he was what seemed to be belligerent drunk. This went on for some time, even continuing out to the patio with customers trying to end the chaos. He was cussing, yelling at his boyfriend and demanding the Bartender serve him another drink. Once his boyfriend, was able to get him to leave, we even witnessed him punching a chair on his way out of the bar! I don't know the owners of this bar. I think they would like to know what happens when they are not there. This place used to be a great place to hang out with family and friends. This is not the first time we've witnessed drunk behavior from this manager. I have to say,, your Bar has a couple really good bartenders. And that is a reason we continue to come back. We decided to try a different burger joint vs the typical In-N-Out, McD, Burger King, Carl's, Jack, etc. Boy am I glad we stopped by here. Pros 1) they had a Burger menu, as well as other Mexican food dishes and desserts on the board. Love the variety! 2) restaurant looked clean. I didn't see any dirty tables, trash on the floor, or sticky counters. 3) cashier, Andrea, was very nice. 4) we got the grilled cheese sandwich ($3.99), mushroom burger ($6.50), and a combo which is a bacon burger with added cheese & fries ($10.99). If you add cheese, it's an additional $0.85. For something so simply and normal, these were delicious. Burgers were so juicy, bread soft, meat good, and flavorful. Little one loved the grilled cheese sandwich. Fries were made perfectly. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned with salt perfectly. Made me think I should have tried a Mexican dish instead of the mushroom burger. Lol If a burger can be that good, the Mexican dish must be even better. 5) no soft music here. Restaurant is very quiet. The customers who arrived were all very quiet. 6) love how as soon as Andrea see someone come to the counter, she immediately walks to the register to take orders. 7) it's our 1st time there and she didn't rush us or give us an attitude, while ee were still deciding what to order because there were quite a few stuff on the menu. 8) nice large parking lot. Cons 1) bathroom was closed due to them just mopping the floor. But I understand that. Sometimes you want to clean stuff up so you can close and head home after. Versus staying late to clean. Conclusion We actually were very impress with the foods we ordered here. So good and juicy. No complaints. Andrea was very professional. I forgot to take pictures of our foods because it was that good. Plus we ordered to go and ate in the dark in our car. Lol I recommend this restaurant if you're on the move and need a quick grab. We had no issue.

I can honestly say with all the years of road trips I had never been to Barstow burger. It's fast food, but also somewhat diner style. Foods range from burgers, Mexican, to breakfast. We opted to try the special they had which was a family bundle, 4 burgers, 4 fries and 4 drinks for $30 which was a steal. I could not believe how big the burgers were and the portion of fries we got. The food was so tasty. Think in n out but bigger and juicier. We barely finished and had extras to take back home. This will now be added to our stops when on trips to Cali. Yum yum!

I felt that other foods elsewhere taste better than here. There was so many waiting in line and also waiting for there foods. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. The hype of the chili burger isn't even that awesome. It was a waste of my 2 hours plus for the foods that taste like cafeteria foods from school. It felt so suffocating waiting for our foods since there's so many already who ordered and waiting for there foods. The lighting was bright and it's pretty spacious but felt pretty off with everyone still waiting for there foods for hours. Its very chaotic while several ladies was going nuts because of the wait. While they were complaining to staff when are their foods coming out. We almost got are foods sooner but them ladies when off on the staff for waiting x amount of hours and still didn't get the orders yet. We ended up having to wait until 10:33pm to get all our orders. We requested to get french fries first which was around 10:13pm. But mind you we been here waiting since 8:04pm for the whole order. We finally took our first bite at 10:38pm. We left the restaurant by 10:59pm/11pm. The fries we requested at around 10:13pm was hot and fresh. By the time our whole order was ready to be called for us to pick up at the front counter. The batch of fries we had in the box was already cold & old which tasted soggy and nasty. I don't understand how it wasn't even fresh at all since we were like the last few 10 customers left out of a few hundred after the 5pm - 7pm slot was over. We landed in the 8pm slot with only about 10 customers left or so. I really don't understand the disorganized staff and the orders wasn't coming out on time in an orderly manner. The foods wasn't even completely fresh for the customers to consume. They don't even have an intercom to call out the numbers for the customers to pick up their orders. So everyone was shouting the numbers out. The customers was greedy as well who ordered multiple foods on different receipts. There was some who had stacks of receipts just for the chili burgers alone. We came here for the chili burgers(8), fries(4), Extra Large drinks(2), and an ice cream(1). Most people only came here for the chili burgers only. The cash register lady told us we can purchase a multiple of 10 burgers per receipts. We only got 8 chili burgers since everyone was hypeing how great it was. It was just a big fat disappointment. I can get better at another fast food joint. The chili burgers alone had so little bites of ground meat in it. I literally thought it would be on the chunky side but nope. The beef patty was small like the size of a hamburger at McDonald's. The buns is the only thing that was big which made the burgers looked big. They only put so little chili on each burgers as well. So the ingredients to me personally seems a bit on the cheaper side not worth the time and effort. I really don't understand how people hype how good their burgers are. The burgers and fries did not taste as fresh as I thought it would be. Everyone who's exaggerated about the chili burgers need to rethink it again. There are better burgers that taste way better and a bigger portion. My overall experience was definitely not that wonderful. I personally would not recommend this restaurant in general. The staff wasn't all that nice and friendly. The disorganized staff. The food was not coming out in an orderly manner. There was no intercom to call out your number. Everyone waited too long for their orders. They should had capped the multiple transactions for customers to only one per visit. Then again everyone was so greedy. I just wondered if they all going to eat it in one sitting. We couldn't even finish all our foods which we took the rest home for later in the week. I know we were greedy too but at least we did not had multiple receipts. The food was not completely fresh eventhough we waited for hours for the foods. You literally thought since they were busy shouldn't the foods be hot and fresh too. I'm thinking we literally got others leftovers when they made a mistake for other people ordered. I really am hoping it's not what I'm thinking. After we got back home I had a tummy ache. I ended up having a massive diarrhea. It's a good thing I made it home before it ended up on myself. I'm thinking the chili kicked in. I will not come back here again at all. But you never know I might change my mind in the future. You can give them a try. Be your own judge. Eat at your own RISK. As of now it's a no go for me!!
