We ordered from Roy's Cafe via DoorDash. We ordered a typical breakfast, waffles/french toast/Waffle/bacon etc. The waffle was okay, very thick like bread. The bacon tasted like it was cooked in old grease, the pancake had zero flavor. Overall not the best experience. Based on prior made reviews, I'm sure this was a bad day. This was my second visit to Amboy Cafe and once again they delivered. On this visit I wanted and ordered a machaca and egg burrito with beans no hash browns to go. After tax it was a little over $17 bucks but was well worth it. After getting my order I drove to Love's gas station in Barstow and ate it there after gasing up my vehicle. I think this burrito was heavier then the breakfast burrito I had last year. I was not given a fork and knife but I managed to eat this behemoth. The end of the burrito would have spilled out if I lifted the whole thing to my mouth so I just lifted the top portion and ate it with the rest in the container. Absolutely delicious! Biting into the burrito just amalgamated all the flavors of the shredded meat, eggs, cheese and beans into a cohesive delicious flavor that was delicious and addictive. This baby had to have been well over 1 1/2 lbs of food and yes, it was so good I ate the whole thing and did not eat anything else for the rest of the day. We were really surprised by how tasty our food was, as well as how much of it we got! First, parking was really easy because it has a parking lot. Next, if you go in expecting a low-key diner experience, you'll be fine. The place itself isn't super updated or deep-cleaned overall, but you can tell that the tables are cleaned, the bathrooms are fine, and there aren't any issues with utensils, dishes, or cups. It feels very much like a local diner, and the clientele seem to reflect that. I would also add that everyone working there seemed super sweet, and our waitress was attentive and helpful! Now, for the food: -1/3 lb hamburger (made into a double, no pickles or tomato) with a side of onion rings: so hefty! Honestly, this hamburger would have been plenty for us as is - the double ended up being overkill, but we finished it anyway lol. It was a classic burger with red onion, iceberg lettuce, thousand island dressing, tomato, and pickles (though we omitted the tomato and pickles in ours). The onion rings had a crunchy breading, and the onion doesn't just fall out when you take a bite or cut into it, which is nice. -al pastor burrito: bigger than expected! Finishing the burger meant we had to take more than half of this to-go, but I was happy to do that; it was so solid! It had al pastor, rice, cheese, lettuce, and refried beans (which I enjoyed, though I usually don't!). Our waitress asked if we wanted the salsa on the side or on the inside, and we went with on the side. There was also a choice of red or green salsa. The al pastor really shined with the house-made green salsa (made from jalapeño), so I was definitely happy with this dish. -vanilla milkshake: just a classic vanilla milkshake. No complaints! Overall, we really enjoyed eating here and would love to come back for their breakfast menu, too! read more

This review is a bit tricky because I really wanted to love Roy's, but there were a few things that kept it from being a standout experience. Located just a few minutes off the freeway, you'll get a quick look at the less glamorous side of Barstow on your way there. Roy's is a family-run spot, and during our visit, I interacted with a few different members. Our server, Brian, mentioned it was his first day serving, and he was being assisted by his young nephew, little Cesar. The restaurant itself is a bit rundown...maybe part of its charm? The windowsills had dust, and the overall cleanliness could use a serious touch-up. But I suppose, for Barstow, it's not too out of the ordinary. On the positive side, I had a great chat with Bernardo, who came out from the kitchen to take our orders. I went with the machaca burrito, which was massive, and my wife ordered the French toast and eggs. The food was solid, nothing spectacular, but definitely decent (I'd rate it a solid B). I'll be very honest with my review. This was my first time here and I ordered bacon and eggs. As you can see in the picture, the hash browns were soaking in oil, and I could taste what seemed like cold oil. The bread also had a smell to it, possibly from the oil. The bacon was extremely over-toasted and also seemed like it had been dipped in cold oil. I was charged $1 extra for yellow peppers, which were actually the only thing that tasted normal. The place has an old feel to it, which is okay. Service felt a bit different for me, coming from the city. Overall, would change oil for the food, would I come back no I spent $20 on left food.. was I asked to remake it nope but sorry it was gross I did not eat it .. getting sick is not an option read more
