Got here around 11 AM and they stopped serving breakfast so we had to order lunch. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and my kids got the fish and chips and the hot dog. My kids devoured the food and I did as well as we were starving from walking around the ghost town. The waiter was attentive and even gave us to go cups for our drinks when we were done. I loved that when the actors came through the restaurant they stayed in character and interacted with the guests. Took about an hour for our food on a Saturday when they were busy, so we walked across the way to the gift shop. Overall, would recommend! Food was good, service was amazing. read more

I love visiting calico, and seeing all the new things that they've added to this town. They've expanded the RV spots for camping there's a few restaurants in a bar a train ride around the town, and of course, the endless photo opportunities. They have an active cemetery I've been bringing my daughter here since she was a baby. Camping visiting off-road definitely a fun spot to try out. This restaurant has your basic food foods. They're good. They have beer and my favorite place to sit is out on the patio on the barstools to enjoy the sunset and the train going by especially when the weather is great. I've been to this restaurant multiple times and the service has always been great. They've been prompt and fast. The food comes out fast. We've been driving between Orange County, CA, and Vegas for years and always stop for breakfast around Barstow. On this trip, we had no timeline and decided this would be our breakfast spot while we checked out the ghost town. This restaurant has a bit of a theme park feel to it thanks to the period-style uniforms they wear, but also a more authentic old-fashioned straight-forward breakfast place. You're not going to find anything fancy on the menu, which was perfectly fine with me. I got the French Toast breakfast which came with eggs and a choice of meat. I picked sausage and was pleasantly surprised to find they were patties! My preferred way to eat sausage. Everything was mighty tasty and filling. My dining partner had an omelet and said it was equally satisfying. Service was down to the earth country great. Everyone was super friendly and you could tell there was a team effort to make everyone happy. While we didn't dress up, some customers had dressed the part which made it fun. Before you think you might want to stop here for a quick bite though, there is a $10 charge to enter the ghost town, and you have to park aways away and take a van up to the drop-off place. in a way, that's kind of sad because I would come here for breakfast again if it was free to get in. read more

I'm writing this review, from an almost writing a bad review stand point. We got there at 1:25pm, and we saw a sign stating that we couldn't be seated until after 1:30 due to some sort of lunch for a group of people. Alright, we will wait...and wait...1:31pm, waited some more....1:35pm, waited a little bit more...1:40pm, I finally walked in and asked if we could be seated. The waiter said, and I quote, "Not until 1:30pm." I calmly said, "It's 1:40pm" Oops, I'm sorry, yes, please have a seat anywhere. We sat down and ordered a mineral water and a raspberry ice tea. Ice tea was watered down and the mineral water had an ant in it...Yes, an ant....lol...Not a complete deal breaker. Waiter traded it out for another one. The food was good and moderately served. We got full. I ordered the Double cheeseburger meal and a corn dog, wifey ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. The waiter was very nice and accommodating. My family had a ready good experience in Calico and we decided to continue that experience with a meal at the Calico House Restaurant. The meal was diner-like, simple meals. The sarsaparilla (root beer) was great. The overall decor was historical and helped tie in the theme. I most enjoyed looking at all the wall art while my kids loved the fries. Wonderful please to eat. Menu is limited to a few favorites like their fried chicken dinner which is the best fried chicken I have ever had. Sorry Nana, it's freaking amazing. The crunch of the chicken takes it to 11! The other stuff on the plate was meh. Potatoes needed more seasoning, the veg was over boiled, the roll was not home made. But the star of the plate, the chicken was off the hook. Other favorites on there are chicken fried steak. Really good and big PBJ, Tina sandwiches , busily it's and gravy along with huge salads. Located toward the entrance of Calico Ghost Town sits this large restaurant. We walked in for a late lunch on a weekday to find the place nearly empty. The interior is appropriately western in it's decor with many vintage photos on the walls. There are an abundance of tables inside which can handle the busy season and quite a few patio tables as well (all under cover). Food is served on old tin plates and beverages in mason jars. The menu is mainly sandwiches and burgers. We sat down inside and our waitress quickly brought napkins & utensils and soon took our order. She was nice and efficient but not one to crack a smile. I ordered a club sandwich with homemade chips. The food came out in 5 minutes. During the short wait we had a few peanuts from the bucket on the table. It's one of those places where you toss the shells onto the floor. My sandwich was simply okay. The toasted bread surrounded some cheap deli ham and turkey, a slice of cheddar, fresh tomato and less fresh lettuce. A strip of deliciously crunchy bacon was also in the mix. It was passable but unmemorable. The chips were interesting in that they were cut in odd shapes and had some sort of unusual seasoning. I ate several, unsure if I actually liked them or not. I'm still not sure about the flavor but I was hungry enough that I finished most of them. For a place in a tourist trap in the middle of nowhere the food will satisfy as long as you keep your expectations in check. read more

Great restaurant to hit up while camping or visiting Calico. Service - Great friendly staff and on point on orders. Food - Limited breakfast menu but the food is good with decent portions. They also provide you with peanuts at no charge. Cost - Fair prices and I believe it was a bit cheaper than your typical breakfast spots. Views - Beautiful views of the Calico mines and the train from the deck. Venue - Has a charm to it to take you back to the old days with furniture, decor style etc. Will be back for sure in my next Calico visit for sure. read more

On a drive to Vegas, in order to beat the traffic, I loaded up the kids in LA in their PJs at 6am and told them I promised to feed them at a small town called Calico. They had no idea that it was a ghost town. I love to surprise them! We pulled into town right as the town and this restaurant were opening for business. I felt like we stepped into Little house on the Prairie the moment we stepped up on their porch and through the front doors. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we walked in. We had the pick of the seating and an amazing view of the mine and train track from the back windows. We didn't order anything out of the ordinary from what we normally get elsewhere for breakfast but the ingredients made it taste more home made and the size made you feel like a guest! Our three-thumb review gives it three finger-licking thumbs up! My teen son was thrilled at the portion size as well. My tween daughter loved her visibly chocolate-coated chocolate milk served in a Mason jar! The THICKest bacon I have ever had has now wrecked me for any other restaurant breakfast!! The server was very friendly and the meal was cooked quickly! Funny, my daughter was not amused by the peanut shells in the floor. I find it charming! Still, we would go again! We were thankful, though, to have a town to step outside and explore and not just jump right back into the car. We spent a day in the ghost town and decided to eat at this restaurant. Unfortunately there was a "festival" going on and the restaurant had a reduced menu. My spouse and I decided on simple sandwiches. Two hours later our food finally arrived. It was ok. Not worth a two hour wait though. We will not be back for any reason. This restaurant isn't anything too special, but there aren't many places to eat in the ghost town, and there is a back patio area with some great views. You can sit and watch a small train drive around the canyon behind the restaurant. We were there in December, when it was decorated or the holidays, but due to a special Christmas event, it was crowded and a bit chaotic. The back patio is one of those places where there service peanuts and throw the shells on the floor....which I found to be more of a mess than anything, but with service taking as long as it did that day, I got hungry and ate a few peanuts. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich with Parmesan bread and a side of mashed potatoes. The bread was delicious, and everything else was pretty good. Our drinks were huge and served in Mason jars, which was great because I was really thirsty. We saw our server engaged in craft-making, so getting our bill was a bit of a trick and we chose to pay inside. All in all, if you want to sit down and eat lunch while visiting Calico, this is a good place to stop, as long as you have a while. read more

My burger wasn't bad, the fries were very crispy, and my Arnold Palmer was good. It's certainly not as nice as the impression I got from the website. The chicken dinner is now $5 more and doesn't come with pie. There were flies everywhere, and a large group of foreign tourists took over the place. We got yelled at when we tried to sit at an unmarked table that was reserved for the foreigners. And beware of the surcharge for using a credit card. It's the only place to eat in this tourist heavy ghost town, but you may want to ghost it and eat before you come. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. My friends and I decided to take a trip to visit calico since we had never been. We decided to eat inside the ghost town and it was the worst mistake. I knew I should've trusted the 3-star review. My friend ordered a BLT and ended up in the ER the next day due to extreme stomach pain and of course vomiting as well. It turns out it was E. Coli and the nurse told my friend if a child would've eaten that, they could've died. Keep in mind she only ate HALF of the sandwich and got violently ill. I enjoyed my buffalo burger and my wife enjoyed her Tri-tip sandwich, but our iced tea had a funny taste to it. When we had ice water brought to us, it tasted funny as well. Best to get drinks with a lot of sugar or syrup in them. They're quite expensive as well ($3.50 each) but come in a Mason jar, which is kind of cool. We were excited to eat at this restaurant. Eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground... but little did we know that we'd experience a kitchen nightmare (without Ramsey). 1. We could tell our server was either having a bad day or she just doesn't smile much. Her robotic service made us feel unwelcomed and alittle uncomfortable. If you didn't know what you wanted to eat when she came to the table, you could see her grind her teeth. 2. We waited for almost 1 hour only to see that others that came after us was served before us. I looked in the kitchen and saw two seniors moving as snails pace doing 1 order at a time. Needless to say, it appeared they did the small orders 1st before our small group of 5. 3. I got up and asked a different waitress how long before we get our food... they said there was still 2 orders before ours. WTH??....ohKaayyy.... 4. 5 more minutes passed and our waitress brought over our napkins and silverware. OMG...really? They were all full of spots and super old crusted food on them still. Good thing burgers dont require silverware. Gross. 5. Food finally came out. Burger meat was cold. Fries were cold. By this time, we just wanted to eat and leave. Holy cow... did u see the plates? Old as sin all dirty looking. 6. Our drinks were all low. She asked twice if there was anything we needed.... um, do you not see our drinks? Finally, we had to request refills. Really? There are three restaurants at Calico Ghost Town. Nine of us visited and we all really enjoyed our meal. We sat on the patio where we got to watch the train pass by. We had sasparilla in bottles, and soda and wine in glass mason jars. The beer was in large plastic containers which was kind of odd, but it's beer so who's complaining! The food was decent, most of us had sandwiches or burgers. The burger looked pretty lame, so I was glad I opted for the chicken salad sandwich which was like 3 inches thick and was yummy! It was my MIL's birthday, they plopped a coffee filter on her head and sang her happy birthday and gave her a slice of pumpkin pie - it was very appropriate for the setting. The waitress wear hoopskirt and though they are all very nice and pretty, but the service was below par for my taste. read more

This is a cute place to eat with a real down home feel to it ...all the way down to the peanut shells scattered on the ground! The view outside was cool because you can see the train from the Odessa railroad pass by while you eat. The waitresses even dressed like the folks in Little House on the Prairie. The drinks also came in mason jars full of ice yum! I had the Buffalo Burger with Ranch flavored mashed potatoes. Buffalo is supposed to be better for you than beef so I wanted to give it a try. It was good ...no after taste and I couldn't really taste the difference. The mashed potatoes were really good too! We also had some hot tea with our meal that was nice to sip on while taking in the view. Please keep in mind if you just want to eat and not do anything else like sight see it may not be worth it for you to come down. This is Calico. A sun-burnt deviation on the route home from Vegas and a rough little town where some really tough folks worked their butts off trying to get rich. Considering that my expectations for lunch were veeeerry low. I would have been happy with air conditioning alone but it turns out that these guys know what they're doing. The pulled pork was pretty darn tasty. The burger was good and my Sweet Wife says the BLT was delightful. That they served maple syrup with sweet potato fries was a little odd but the sandwiches were good and they served icy, cold drinks in big Mason jars. The kids loved that you could throw peanut shells on the ground then run around stomping them. And they had air conditioning too. Resounding thumbs up!! read more

The ambience is great and the seating arrangement on the patio is awesome with the view of the hills and train. The food is so-so. I'd give this place 4 stars for the decoration but the food couldn't make up for a 3 star review. My waitress was nice. All their sandwhiches and burgers are served on special beer battered breads but they all are loaded with cheese. Why not have one beer battered bread that's non-dairy? I had to get a plain wheat bun on my burger which was twice the size of the meat. The sweet potato fries were tasty. The burger was a dinky thing that I'm positive came from a 100 pack of beef patties from Costco or something. If I was a cook here I'd order fresh beef and make the patties. It's unacceptable for a home-cooked "old world" theme. I saw some people order a rib plate or something and it came from the kitchen (probably Costco again). THERE ARE TWO GIANT COOKERS SITTING UNUSED IN THE BACK! I uploaded a picture of the view in the back. The black cherry soda was very very good. I'd come back to try the other ones. Look, this place should step it up in the cooking department. Stop using these pre-made frozen ingredients and raise the prices up a few bucks if needed. Extremely disappointing visit! We visited on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The servers were less than friendly. Due to the pleasant weather, we chose to eat outside. It could definitely use some straightening as there were blown tablecloths, chairs haphazardly on tables and very old peanut shells strewn about. I understand peanuts is part of the ambiance but should be cleaned periodically as it is a food establishment and can cause undue visits from wildlife. Today however there were no peanuts available and to our dismay the salad bar was not set up either. The food was mediocre at best. The server forgot my son's soup so we asked for it on our way out and got it to go. The place was not very busy so that couldn't have been the case. Our recommendation would be to eat outside of the park or pack a picnic. read more
