Stumbled upon this place by accident and were so pleasantly surprised. The meats are incredibly soft and just fall apart clean. Every single side dish was amazing--especially the greens, which had the perfect subtle hint of spice. Definitely trying the oxtail next time. Highly recommend!

I'll be honest, I stopped by here on a Friday during their slow period (2pm) and almost walked out until I ran into the owner and her staff outside cooking on the smoker. She was so friendly and accommodating to us and our furry travel companion and the food was delicious! The food is on warming plates which obviously was not showcasing everything during the slow period but they said everything is coming out fresh from the kitchen. We got the dino rib and pork ribs that came straight out of that smoker we saw in the back. So good! I think the star of the show were the sides - every side had an extra sprinkle of spice to make it interesting. The yams were my standout favorite, followed by the collard greens. I love the extra seasoning on the Mac too. I also wanted to mention that the ladies restroom had a donation-based hygiene supply, and if I wasn't already giving 5 stars this would put it at the top. I've never really seen a local business help provide access to feminine hygiene for people in need, which is a reflection of how awesome this establishment is. Thank you for doing what you can for the community, and I hope this place gets all the business they deserve

The flavor of the food was on point. The oxtail was amazing as was the okra. What to know: You order from a buffet and pay at the register and take your food so there is no table service. For the price it should be table service. My two meals with one drink was $70.00 A few things are made to order. Might be good to order ahead for the fried items as they are not out on the buffet line. It's exact cash or card for payment. Only notes: the okra is made to order and by the time I got it I was done with my meal. Also the order was skimpy. Lastly, it was too dark in the restaurant. I would not normally go back in such a situation but the food was so good I probably will and take it to go next time.

RUN friends don't walk! Review is from today 03/08 around 11:30-11:45a Upon entering we were immediately and warmly welcomed by Sean!!! We observed Sean working super efficiently and handled everything on his own from greeting customers, making plates, ringing food up ( yep and he wore gloves), getting drinks and bringing it to the tables!!! Amazingggg friends if you walk in and see a line don't be discouraged he is doing the best job be patient trust it is worth the wait!!! In my opinion he needs a raise!!! Food quality and freshness didn't disappoint!!! As much as I want to get keep the Turkey wings...lol I can't I have to share with my fellow yelpers!!! Perfect seasoning, super juicy sauce, (beware a little spice kick but nothing to hot...my tolerance for spice is low but I tore this plate up) large piece of wing, it was chef kiss and the plate comes with rice so you could get two other sides!!! Yams was fire and collard greens also fire!!! Trust it will let you down!!! The brisket plate was also fire!!! Mac and cheese fire perfect seasoning cheese and has a nice little kick!!! Honestly this was my hubby and I 2nd visit here and it still was as good as we remember the 1st visit!!! We are definitely loyal customers and the way I would be visiting LV more often this is going to be our Spot especially because the Tesla charging station is literally across from them it is the best!!! Value is super good and worth it about $20-$25 per plate!!! There is a lot of seating so you could sit and enjoy your food!!! Thanks so much Sean!

The decor and atmosphere were great. The lady who served me was exceptionally nice. She even agreed with my grandpa humor. The ribs, pork, were good. Not great, but good. They were very tender and cooked throughout, however they did not have a lot of flavor. You know, the kind of flavor you expect in Southern cooking. The Mac & Cheese was very good. Traditional south. The Butter Beans stole the show. I have never, in my 58 years of life, had Butter Beans like them. I am going to try to get the recipe. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Talk about an oasis in the middle of the desert !! A true desert gem. Very delicious. Southern Comfort Soul Food yyuuummmm!! Interesting concept they have going here, a kind of Chinese food- style- buffet- Chipotle -- where you stand on one side of the glass pointing to the food that you want the server to dish up for you , its a southern comfort soul food bar !! They pile up your plate with deliciousness, you sit down and enjoy, listening to jazzy tunes play on the satellite radio while sipping on your sweet tea . You gotta come get this food : )

Prior to arriving in Barstow w checked Yelp to find a place for dinner. The photos of the beef ribs sold us on Southern Twist. The food is in warming trays and a staff member serves you. We both chose the beef rib (lol). They came with two sides. We both chose the squash. Hubby had the mac and cheese and I had the yams. The price was $27. You got 1 rib. They had a good amount of meat but also had a fair amount of gristle. The squash was delicious. It was sautéed in butter and just the right amount of crisp. I like the yams. They were cooked in brown sugar and cinnamon. Hubby thought they were too sweet. The staff was friendly. The restruant was clean. The music was a little loud.

We literally tumbled on this spot one day while charging on the way to Vegas ... and ever since then, it's been a mandatory stop both heading there and on our way home The oxtails? Fall-off-the-bone. The rice? Soaked in all that saucy goodness. And don't even get me started on that sweet potatoes on the side But honestly... EVERYTHING here hits * Fried catfish, chicken & okra * Smothered chicken & turkey * BBQ pork ribs, brisket & short ribs Some places you discover once... this one becomes part of your Vegas tradition If you know, you KNOW. And if you don't... add it to your next road-trip stop

BBQ chicken, Mac N Cheese, sweet potatoes (my dish) Octails, black eyed peas and greens (husbands dish).

Absolutely amazing. We just happened upon this place when driving home from Vegas, so glad we did. Staff is friendly food is fantastic, definitely going to find a way to come back soon.

Oxtail is the best!!! Will be back for this.

Delicious, quick and authentic southern food. The oxtail is the star. Falls right off the bone and so tender. The meatloaf and ribs were also delicious. Love that it comes with rice. Plus the fried okra and collared greens are excellent. It's clean and the cashier was nice.

Oxtail w/white rice, butter beans, Macn cheese. Second plate was a turkey wing smothered with gravy w/white rice, baked beans n yam

If you ever on the road and happen to pass by Barstow California, southern twist is a must try. This is real soul food and it was worth the drive sooooooooo delicious. Customer service was great too. We wdefinitely back even tho we live 2hrs away lol

The best beef rib. So tender. Order with the Lima beans, and you will not be disappointed! No pics of the beef rib because it was gone SO fast!

My plate consists of pork rib, a smothered turkey, wings, and collard greens and green beans

The server, Candi was very friendly and quick to come take our order. There was a large party ahead of us and she was sure to tell us but ensured our food would be out as soon as possible. Luckily it really didn't take long at all. Both of our food came out delicious and hot. The service was great, and we grabbed a delicious brownie to share on the way out. Definitely recommend.

The service was exemplary. The food was great, and it was a great overall dining experience. I get everybody has a bad or off day. And in this case Black Bear Diner made it right. Which in this day and age of throw away customers and compliments means a lot. I will definitely be coming back to this. Black Bear Diner and I have upgraded my review to a solid 4! Wow. That was underwhelming. I like Black Bear diner, I've been going to them for a long time, and as I was heading back to Las Vegas I thought I would stop here and grab a bite to eat as I have always had a great experience there. Well this time, it was an exception to the rule. It was busy so I was not too concerned about the wait time, which was minimal, and they got me seated pretty quickly. Quickly. I like the little newspaper style menus as they were fun to look at and interesting to read while you waited for your server. I already knew I was going to get the mini volcano, as it just sounded like the perfect combination of stuff for me to eat for breakfast. The waitress came by, really didn't look at me, which was odd. And went back to put it in. She came back with my coffee and said the order was in. Should only be a moment. This was great news cuz I was ready to eat and get back on the road. The food came to the table and it looked appetizing enough, they had the two pancakes and my fried egg on top and a piece of bacon and a link of sausage. Flanking the pancakes with a nice garnish of an orange slice on a lettuce bed. Here's the problem. Everything was lukewarm now it did come out pretty fast which was surprising to me that it wasn't really hot. But literally everything on the plate felt like it was sitting in a dish in the back with a warmer waiting just to be built. The pancakes there are usually really good this time. They were terrible. I was very very sad about this cuz I really like their pancakes a lot. The egg was cooked well but again it was lukewarm at best. Same with the sausage and the bacon. The sadder thing was the flavor just wasn't there. Normally they have some personality to it, but these felt contrived and run of the mill. Now. I don't know if they, like Everyone else is having to downgrade and downsize because of the cost of everything, but whatever it was it was not working for me. Again, I will say that I like Black Bear Diners but the one in Barstow I will be avoiding every time I drive through. This is sad, and I hope that someone in corporate reads this because it would be great to have this restaurant be top notch when you're driving between Orange county and Las Vegas or vice versa. Bottom line? I seriously doubt that I'll ever come back here. Which is a bummer, because I am a big fan of this particular chain. There are plenty of other great eating establishments in the Barstow area. So this one I would kind of drive past. ************* Response to Black Bear Diner Corporate Thank you for your heartfelt response. In fact, it was one of the nicest chat GPT responses I've read this week. At least you got my name in there which was a nice touch and made it feel more personal, however, when you forget to put your email in there for me to respond to, that leads me to believe you really don't care. Thank you for the response albeit a very perfunctory one.

We decided to try a different burger joint vs the typical In-N-Out, McD, Burger King, Carl's, Jack, etc. Boy am I glad we stopped by here. Pros 1) they had a Burger menu, as well as other Mexican food dishes and desserts on the board. Love the variety! 2) restaurant looked clean. I didn't see any dirty tables, trash on the floor, or sticky counters. 3) cashier, Andrea, was very nice. 4) we got the grilled cheese sandwich ($3.99), mushroom burger ($6.50), and a combo which is a bacon burger with added cheese & fries ($10.99). If you add cheese, it's an additional $0.85. For something so simply and normal, these were delicious. Burgers were so juicy, bread soft, meat good, and flavorful. Little one loved the grilled cheese sandwich. Fries were made perfectly. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned with salt perfectly. Made me think I should have tried a Mexican dish instead of the mushroom burger. Lol If a burger can be that good, the Mexican dish must be even better. 5) no soft music here. Restaurant is very quiet. The customers who arrived were all very quiet. 6) love how as soon as Andrea see someone come to the counter, she immediately walks to the register to take orders. 7) it's our 1st time there and she didn't rush us or give us an attitude, while ee were still deciding what to order because there were quite a few stuff on the menu. 8) nice large parking lot. Cons 1) bathroom was closed due to them just mopping the floor. But I understand that. Sometimes you want to clean stuff up so you can close and head home after. Versus staying late to clean. Conclusion We actually were very impress with the foods we ordered here. So good and juicy. No complaints. Andrea was very professional. I forgot to take pictures of our foods because it was that good. Plus we ordered to go and ate in the dark in our car. Lol I recommend this restaurant if you're on the move and need a quick grab.
