I was headed back to Vegas the other day so we stopped at Southern twist before lunch. They had a full menu available so we both got the fried catfish. I had mine with the greens and the corn on the cob. She had her catfish with the cornbread and corn on the Cobb. I took mine to Vegas home and heated it up and I enjoyed it. I forgot to mention I have the Black Eyed Peas as well. They were good too. Everything was delicious. I passed on the tartar sauce, but the hot sauce was a little tasty and spicy as well I'd recommend them if you rolling through from Vegas to the Bay or Vegas to LA. The staff there is friendly shine has hooked me up several times there and he'll make your plate just the way you want it. They have a clean restroom and ample seating if you wanna dine in if you know what you want, you have to go ahead and order it because they do sell out of many of the items I've gone there in the past and see the oxtails and the ribs sold out. They have desserts as well if that's what you're into if you have a taste for comfort food, southern twist as your spot on the way through the desert and located in Barstow right off E. Main St. That is right across from the Tesla charging station!

On our way to Las Vegas, Nevada, my husband and I stopped at Southern Twist! Oh my!! So good! So delicious! You have to try this hidden gemstone! The staff is very nice! We had the oxtails and rice, turkey and dirty rice, greens and yams!!!! If you're looking for the perfect place to try and sample and purchase Southern Style cooking, this is the place!! Very clean and you'll love the staff! Film location: This resturant is perfect for filming. It's quiet inside and there's plenty of seating and a bar!!! Come ready to enjoy! Yummy!!

I'll be honest, I stopped by here on a Friday during their slow period (2pm) and almost walked out until I ran into the owner and her staff outside cooking on the smoker. She was so friendly and accommodating to us and our furry travel companion and the food was delicious! The food is on warming plates which obviously was not showcasing everything during the slow period but they said everything is coming out fresh from the kitchen. We got the dino rib and pork ribs that came straight out of that smoker we saw in the back. So good! I think the star of the show were the sides - every side had an extra sprinkle of spice to make it interesting. The yams were my standout favorite, followed by the collard greens. I love the extra seasoning on the Mac too. I also wanted to mention that the ladies restroom had a donation-based hygiene supply, and if I wasn't already giving 5 stars this would put it at the top. I've never really seen a local business help provide access to feminine hygiene for people in need, which is a reflection of how awesome this establishment is. Thank you for doing what you can for the community, and I hope this place gets all the business they deserve

RUN friends don't walk! Review is from today 03/08 around 11:30-11:45a Upon entering we were immediately and warmly welcomed by Sean!!! We observed Sean working super efficiently and handled everything on his own from greeting customers, making plates, ringing food up ( yep and he wore gloves), getting drinks and bringing it to the tables!!! Amazingggg friends if you walk in and see a line don't be discouraged he is doing the best job be patient trust it is worth the wait!!! In my opinion he needs a raise!!! Food quality and freshness didn't disappoint!!! As much as I want to get keep the Turkey wings...lol I can't I have to share with my fellow yelpers!!! Perfect seasoning, super juicy sauce, (beware a little spice kick but nothing to hot...my tolerance for spice is low but I tore this plate up) large piece of wing, it was chef kiss and the plate comes with rice so you could get two other sides!!! Yams was fire and collard greens also fire!!! Trust it will let you down!!! The brisket plate was also fire!!! Mac and cheese fire perfect seasoning cheese and has a nice little kick!!! Honestly this was my hubby and I 2nd visit here and it still was as good as we remember the 1st visit!!! We are definitely loyal customers and the way I would be visiting LV more often this is going to be our Spot especially because the Tesla charging station is literally across from them it is the best!!! Value is super good and worth it about $20-$25 per plate!!! There is a lot of seating so you could sit and enjoy your food!!! Thanks so much Sean!

The decor and atmosphere were great. The lady who served me was exceptionally nice. She even agreed with my grandpa humor. The ribs, pork, were good. Not great, but good. They were very tender and cooked throughout, however they did not have a lot of flavor. You know, the kind of flavor you expect in Southern cooking. The Mac & Cheese was very good. Traditional south. The Butter Beans stole the show. I have never, in my 58 years of life, had Butter Beans like them. I am going to try to get the recipe. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Beef rib is what I got with Broccoli and zucchini! Everything I got was great. Beef was so tender and the veggies had good taste. Server was super nice!!! Highly recommend!!'n

Prior to arriving in Barstow w checked Yelp to find a place for dinner. The photos of the beef ribs sold us on Southern Twist. The food is in warming trays and a staff member serves you. We both chose the beef rib (lol). They came with two sides. We both chose the squash. Hubby had the mac and cheese and I had the yams. The price was $27. You got 1 rib. They had a good amount of meat but also had a fair amount of gristle. The squash was delicious. It was sautéed in butter and just the right amount of crisp. I like the yams. They were cooked in brown sugar and cinnamon. Hubby thought they were too sweet. The staff was friendly. The restruant was clean. The music was a little loud.

Stumbled upon this place by accident and were so pleasantly surprised. The meats are incredibly soft and just fall apart clean. Every single side dish was amazing--especially the greens, which had the perfect subtle hint of spice. Definitely trying the oxtail next time. Highly recommend!

We literally tumbled on this spot one day while charging on the way to Vegas ... and ever since then, it's been a mandatory stop both heading there and on our way home The oxtails? Fall-off-the-bone. The rice? Soaked in all that saucy goodness. And don't even get me started on that sweet potatoes on the side But honestly... EVERYTHING here hits * Fried catfish, chicken & okra * Smothered chicken & turkey * BBQ pork ribs, brisket & short ribs Some places you discover once... this one becomes part of your Vegas tradition If you know, you KNOW. And if you don't... add it to your next road-trip stop

Talk about an oasis in the middle of the desert !! A true desert gem. Very delicious. Southern Comfort Soul Food yyuuummmm!! Interesting concept they have going here, a kind of Chinese food- style- buffet- Chipotle -- where you stand on one side of the glass pointing to the food that you want the server to dish up for you , its a southern comfort soul food bar !! They pile up your plate with deliciousness, you sit down and enjoy, listening to jazzy tunes play on the satellite radio while sipping on your sweet tea . You gotta come get this food : )

The gift shop has tons of Disney collectibles and figures, various kchotckes, souvenir magnets and stuff. Also they have various unique flavors in bottles sodas and they scoop Thrift ice cream. Outside in the back they have some dinosaurs made of metal and a King Kong. They have some ponds with super green colored water. They have a wall to create a waterfall. They have a stage area that doesn't look like it gets used. The dino shop looks permanently closed. They have a couple of tables that you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Snapping turtles are in the pond and several ducks were around. Not sure why the water is so green though, it's kind of off putting. Anyhow, when we entered we went to the right and followed the yellow "brick" road to the back dining room. The first room is a counter service area with a couple of booths. The next room is a dark looking room with tables and then the larger and bright dining room. If you go further you get the pizza place. If we had gone left upon entry, that would be the gift shop and ice cream area. Their menu is cute and movie themed with comfort food selections. Since we were not too hungry we decided to share the chicken friend steak and 2 eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast. Love that they offer orange marmalade jelly. Our server was very pleasant and food came out quickly. The chicken fried steak was a decent size and was flavorful. Wish it had a bit more gravy though. The hash browns were cooked perfectly. I live that they serve whipped butter for the toast. It was super easy to spread! The food was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture of it. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The place was pretty busy when we got there. I have always wanted to stop here and finally was able to. It was definitely worth the stop and we will be back again for their food! Next trip we are going to have some Thrifty ice cream too. This time we night some real cane sugar Dr. Pepper and different root beers and sasparilla to take with us.

Overall, I think I expected a bit more, although nothing was necessarily wrong. The diner was decorated throughout, but the theme did not strongly read as 1950s to me. At first glance, I could have mistaken it for more of a dive-bar-style spot, though the staff uniforms were a nice touch. The food was average overall. I tried the "Huell Howser" burger, which includes honey ham and pineapple on a cheeseburger. It was okay, but the pineapple was only one ring, so the flavor did not come through in every bite, and the ham did not stand out much either. I also tried the "King Kong Monster Burger," which was smaller than I expected based on the name and looked more like a standard double-patty burger. The curly fries tasted a bit undercooked and were not my favorite. Surprisingly, the side salad with their house-made ranch was one of the highlights. The ranch was buttery and flavorful. The candy store/souvenir shop on the other side of the building was less impressive than I hoped, much of it felt like mass-produced merchandise rather than vintage or unique finds. Overall, I'm glad I tried it once, but I would not personally go out of my way to return.

We decided to try a different burger joint vs the typical In-N-Out, McD, Burger King, Carl's, Jack, etc. Boy am I glad we stopped by here. Pros 1) they had a Burger menu, as well as other Mexican food dishes and desserts on the board. Love the variety! 2) restaurant looked clean. I didn't see any dirty tables, trash on the floor, or sticky counters. 3) cashier, Andrea, was very nice. 4) we got the grilled cheese sandwich ($3.99), mushroom burger ($6.50), and a combo which is a bacon burger with added cheese & fries ($10.99). If you add cheese, it's an additional $0.85. For something so simply and normal, these were delicious. Burgers were so juicy, bread soft, meat good, and flavorful. Little one loved the grilled cheese sandwich. Fries were made perfectly. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned with salt perfectly. Made me think I should have tried a Mexican dish instead of the mushroom burger. Lol If a burger can be that good, the Mexican dish must be even better. 5) no soft music here. Restaurant is very quiet. The customers who arrived were all very quiet. 6) love how as soon as Andrea see someone come to the counter, she immediately walks to the register to take orders. 7) it's our 1st time there and she didn't rush us or give us an attitude, while ee were still deciding what to order because there were quite a few stuff on the menu. 8) nice large parking lot. Cons 1) bathroom was closed due to them just mopping the floor. But I understand that. Sometimes you want to clean stuff up so you can close and head home after. Versus staying late to clean. Conclusion We actually were very impress with the foods we ordered here. So good and juicy. No complaints. Andrea was very professional. I forgot to take pictures of our foods because it was that good. Plus we ordered to go and ate in the dark in our car. Lol I recommend this restaurant if you're on the move and need a quick grab. We had no issue.
