My wife was out of the country and I had promised my granddaughter i would take her to breakfast. She insisted on waffles so going through Yelp I happened upon Lucy's Dinner. Being from the IE I remember driving by the corner location and its many iterations throughout the years. The location is not going to win you over with its glamour but it will impress you with its food and service. We got there at 10ish on a Saturday so it was pretty full. We were seated at a table and the very charming waitress attended us immediately. I of course ordered a cup of coffee and a ham and egg sandwich. My granddaughter wanted the strawberry waffles. The food was prepared quickly considering the crowd and we proceeded to devour our breakfast. The breakfast sandwich was a big man size sandwich. None of this little kid size. It was delicious. The waffles were covered in strawberries and whipped cream. A six year olds dream come true. I had to help out of course. All in all a great experience in Fontana at Lucy's Dinner. I recently visited Lucy's Diner in Fontana, and unfortunately, while the service and atmosphere were great, the food was a major disappointment. The restaurant itself was clean, and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. Our waitresses were really nice, friendly, and attentive, and the service was honestly amazing. I have nothing bad to say about the staff. Unfortunately, the food was a completely different story. Starting with my kids' food, the French fries were old, stale, and not warm at all. The carne asada sope was served cold, and the meat was very disappointing. It didn't taste like carne asada at all, it tasted more like boiled meat. It had almost no seasoning or flavor and was extremely tough. The sope shell also tasted old and stale rather than fresh. The rice and beans were another disappointment. They tasted old and had a strange flavor that reminded me of plastic. Nothing really tasted fresh. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which were okay, but honestly nothing special. They were edible, but not something I would come back for. One thing I noticed was how incredibly fast the food came out. Normally that would be a positive, but in this case, it made me wonder if some of the food was already prepared and sitting around, because so much of it came out barely warm and tasted like it had been sitting for a while. Overall, I really wanted to like this place because the people were so nice and the restaurant was clean. Unfortunately, the food needs a lot of work and, more importantly, a lot more love and attention to freshness, seasoning, and preparation. Nice people and good service, but based on my experience, I unfortunately wouldn't recommend Lucy's Diner right now. Lucy's Diner is a hidden gem in Fontana. My family and I stopped by for the first time a week ago and really enjoyed our visit. The service was five stars on its own. We were warmly greeted upon arriving. The woman who checked us in and showed us to our table made us feel as if we were regulars she sees daily, even though it was our first time there. We came in on a weekend at lunch and they were packed. It's apparent Lucy's Diner is popular and rightfully so. Lucy's Diner is located on San Bernardino Avenue in Fontana. They have a small, free parking lot for customers. Their menu boasts several dishes, so there's lots of selection and definitely something to please a majority of palettes. Our order consisted of the Clubhouse Sandwich and Country Fried Steak. Everything tasted fantastic and was cooked fresh to order. Portions were the perfect size, definitely more on the generous side. A Belgian-style waffle cut into fourths and topped with strawberries, bananas, cooked apples, and crushed candied pecans. The flavor of the waffle was not too sweet and had notes of vanilla and cinnamon in the batter. The chantilly cream was almost like a frosting, very sweet. I didn't feel that it added anything to the dish, except extra sweetness so I didn't use it. The fruit with the syrup was enough for me. The Vegetarian omelette included broccoli, mushroom, onion, and tomato (I requested no tomato). The egg was really dry and overcooked. I prefer my omelette cooked well but not to the point where the egg has dark brown spots. The Hashbrowns were ordered crispy and I thought they were tasty and well seasoned. Her iced tea came with a rotten lemon, the chips had some weird dusty seasoning on them, and when the food showed up... straight garbage.
