This place was featured on an episode of of Check Please, Bay Area so we had to try when we were in the area. What brought me in was the spicy prawns and scallops. Looked so good on TV. I didn't think the actual dish looked quite as good. The prawns and scallops just weren't as prominent in the actual dish. It was still pretty good and quite spicy. I actually like our other two dishes better. The dry sautéed string beans were cooked just right and the crab meat fried rice hit the spot. Portions were generous so we took some home. I've ordered Door Dash out of Royal Feast and really enjoyed it, so we finally decided to stop by and dine in person. We were not disappointed! The servers are really attentive, and even though we showed up once 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, we never felt rushed. We've tried a few different dishes and havent' had a miss yet. Some of our favorites include the Couple's Delight, Chongquing chrispy fried chicken, and the Mapo Tofu. The beef brisket in spicy numbing soup rice noodles are also really good. The Szechuan fried rice is also some of the best fried rice we've had. They manage to create a crisp on all the meat for both their fried rices and their chow meins. We're still making our way through their menu, but this has def become our go-to dinner spot. read more

Not only are their plates incredibly delicious, the presentation and serving size will floor you. You can order your dishes as hot as you want, and the quality of the ingredients are excellent. I recommend the Mapo Tofu and the chili chicken. They both have the perfect amount of Szechuan pepper in them that wakes up the flavor of the ingredients and leaves your mouth slightly numb. Have not had the chance to dine in, given the COVID pandemic. Luckily, we were still able to order takeout for my dad's and my birthday dinner at home. The restaurant offers a pre-order seafood boil that comes with duck, abalone, oysters, chicken, sea cucumber, dried scallops, and assorted mushrooms. Broth options are either a creamy chicken/pork-based broth or red Shaoxing wine-based soup. The waiter who took our order through the phone recommended the former, so that's the option my family chose. Upon pickup, the meats were already cooked, so all we had to do was reheat the broth and serve. Couldn't be easier than that, right? This meal was absolutely delicious! We got the braised pork belly with chestnuts ($14), which was quite good. The meat wasn't quite as tender as I like it, but the flavor was good. I loved the cabbage dish ($11) - I swear I ate the entire cabbage. It was really tender and flavorful. The pork and chives dumplings ($9 for 12) were a hit as well. In Nov '22, we were warmly greeted by the chef, to whom we returned that warmth. in Feb '23, that chef was not around, and our reception was cool, perhaps because we aging Anglos arrived trailing lunch hour to avoid COVID issues. I've loved every meal and everything I've ordered from this restaurant -- Royal Feast is the thing I missed most during the pandemic, so I was disappointed by that cool reception. I love the Cumin Lamb (worth driving MANY hours), and the Szechuan Style Hot & Spicy Fish Fillet. My wife, who doesn't dig spicy, loves Shrimp/Egg Napa Cabbage. There are many other things on the menu I'd love to try and that she would enjoy). The Chongquing crispy fried chicken is great, but DON'T take the dark meat option, which is chopped wings, more moist, but a PITA to eat. Tried to order the Fish fillet with garlic and eggplant Clay Pot, but it had to be ordered in advance. I've also enjoyed Hot and spicy shrimp with scallop, roasted fish with spicy numbing sauce. We took my sister here for her birthday lunch so she could try a real royal cuisine. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were underwhelming for us. We really tried to like each and every dish. We started with the eight treasure duck which we ordered a week ahead. The duck was pretty tough, and the skin was not crispy. The "treasures" inside were good, lots of delicious sticky rice and chestnuts. But we just weren't impressed with the quality of the duck given the price. I saved some for my parents since we couldn't finish it, and they were not impressed either. Our only favorites were the sauteed shredded potatoes with vinegar and the crab meat and egg white fried rice. They weren't too greasy and were cooked perfectly. The rest of the dishes were drenched in too much sauce, including the braised fish maw with crab meat and braised Napa cabbage. The saving grace was dessert. Avid foodies might say don't order fried rice because it's usually nothing special but the special Szechuan fried rice is sooo worth it especially when you are craving a rice dish. And I always order it with extra chicken - half order more. Because it's that good. If I order royal feast I will always order this dish. Disappointed. I wanted to love this place. I had high hopes. I was told that this chef has won many awards, including a prestigious French culinary competition award, that very few Chinese chefs have won. When you walk in, you see many awards and plaques on the left wall ... but these awards and culinary skills did not translate into my dinner. It was just dishes after dishes of plain old disappointment that lacked flavor, lacked sophisticated use of spices, lacked quality ingredients, and simply did not taste good. Service was friendly yet subpar without much attention to guest or detail, with the restaurant was only 40-50% full on a Monday night. Tea was served luke warm, had to ask multiple times for refill (with yet another pot of luke warm, watered down tea bag tea). Now onto the dishes: 1) Signature pork feet jelly - this is the chef's award winning dish and this is the only good dish for the evening. It's different, flavorful and shows off the chef's culinary skills. Using the pork feet and skin, and the natural jelly found after boiling, spices were added after grinding down the feet into smaller pieces and resetting the pieces together in its own jelly. Brilliant. This dish makes eating pork feet a breeze and one would no longer have to chew around the bones to eat pork feet! You can just pop these pieces into your mouth and wala!, it's just like eating pork feet. lol. This dish is topped off by Chinese balsamic vinegar to heighten the flavor, while also balancing the dish with a bit of acid. Overall an excellent dish. Minor issue - this dish truly delivers when there's no bones. There were small pieces of grind down bones in the jellies. Not a big issue for me but it's not meant to have bones. 2) Abalones braised with 4 delicacies (fish maw, sea cucumber, beef tendon, and quail eggs) This dish was my splurge of the evening and it was a big disappointment. The quality just isn't there. They used the cheapest possible sea cucumber and dish maw. Then, beef tendon and canned quail eggs, paired with a mild sauce (many places serve an intense abalone sauce that screams...) THIS, is NOT that sauce that I had hoped for. With perfect consistency and color, yet bland as heck. 3) Large bean sprouts with garlic How can you even mess up this dish.!?! A Chinese classic vege dish and the large bean sprouts are often pricier ... this dish was WAY too salty. The bean sprouts was also old (and / or not fresh)... think unable to chew through the stem. ugh. 4) Fish Filet in Chili Oil A classic Szechuan dish - this dish is supported to use the chili's and soak in the oil, the using the hot oil to cook the fish. The result was supposed to be the fragrant of the chili yet the dish itself not very spicy. This dish lacks the sophistication and missing the key numbing berry that gives that signature numbness to the lips. Overall flavor is ok. But I probably wouldn't order again. 3 out of 4 miss. The only dish that's good is the appetizer. Service is friendly but just not good. They took the order, dropped off the dishes and that's pretty much it. We had to ask twice for tea twice.
