Our family has tried this place a few times now and it's just okay. But this last time is why I dropped a star and why we will never be going back. As my fiancé dug into her lo mein she pulled out a piece of plastic (looked like maybe from a peppermint wrapper). Most of the food was cold(except the sushi) so I was not too surprised it wasn't fully melted into the food. So... when I tried to explain that there was plastic in the food the server clearly had no idea what I was trying to explain to her and just kept smiling, nodding, and saying "yes,yes". The fact that we actually had a good laugh over this is why there are 2 stars here. Eat at your own risk. I took my family here on Mother's Day. They have done a lot of advertising with TV commercials and flyers in the mail, so I figured they can't be too bad for a Chinese buffet. Driving up to the place, we saw some questionable patrons walking in and out of the place which made me hope I hadn't made a mistake in coming. Our party of 6 with 2 babies was seated promptly. And we were off to the buffet! Not a bad selection. Really not any different from other Chinese buffets I've been to. They have a Mongolian grill with your choice of veggies and meats. And a sushi bar with a good variety. I liked their creamy shrimp and honey chicken. They have pizza, chicken nuggets, and macaroni and cheese for the kiddos. They only have crab legs on Friday and Saturday, so we didn't get to try those, but they did have boiled shrimp and oysters. I gave a lot of things a try, and didn't dislike anything too badly. Desserts consisted of mini cake and cookies which were pretty standard. And an ice cream machine. Service was good. Water got refilled. Dirty plates got removed. There were some other customers there that got a little too greedy with their food hogging, but what can you do but give them nasty looks? I'm not sure if I would go back, just because I don't eat Chinese buffets very often. read more

Most of the food were bland and tasteless. The only thing that really got me frustrated was the crawfish, it went bad. When I pulled the crawfish's tail out it was all grey. The desserts were mostly stale too! I'll probably stick to Ocean Buffet. read more

As far as Chinese buffets go, I'm pretty happy with this place. The selection is better than average. I've never had a problem with the quality of the food. There is a Mongolian section (like Genghis Grill style) where you can get a bowl made. There is also a sushi bar. Both of these are included in the buffet price. The sushi is usually pretty good especially considering it's in an all-you-can-eat buffet but I was really disappointed when I went in today and they were only serving roll style sushi, not Nigiri. I kept going back hoping they would put some out but they just kept filling the roll plates with more rolls. Not a big fan of rolls. I grabbed 3. First 2 were pretty good, not sure what kind they were (seemed to include tuna and tofu). The third was a Philadelphia Roll, and while I think it was well done, it just wasn't for me. There's a large selection of desserts but I've never been too impressed with them. The food is fresh, decent quality. The place is always busy. I recommend going at lunch for the lunch price. Well, as far as how the restaurant goes for being caution due to covid I give them 5 stars. Now, the buffet, that's another story. The variety is there : plenty of choices ( Chinese, Mongolian, Sushi, American). However, flavor is not. Most of what I tried was tasteless, no spice, no seasoning. This used to be our favorite restaurant in the area. Sadly, it is not worth going to any more. No more crab legs at all. Substituted very small crabs fried whole. When I asked, the waitress was quick to tell me "No more Crab Legs. Cost too much". Now we have chicken nuggets and French fries, both of them are low quality. What to expect at a Chinese buffet: not much. Although the decor and cleanliness of Royal Buffet is better than most all-you-can-eat places, the food is mostly blegh. The seafood is something you should definitely steer clear from. They taste too boiled and dry. The sushi is pretty nasty as well. The only things I found okay were the crab rangoons, sautéed mushrooms and green beans, and peppered beef. The beef though, is chewy and tastes like plastic (like most Chinese delivery). The staff is nice though. Fast service and they also corrected our bill with no argument! I would most likely come back ONLY if I'm in the area and want a cheap, filling meal. I would agree with most reviewers here with one exception...you really should try to order off the menu. I know it's a novelty in the chinese buffet rage that has taken over but I can't say what a difference it makes. Best bets here are the mongolian grill where you can be creative (not as much as Genghis but still good selection) or definitely work from the menu. Chicken with black bean sauce is very good (don't think mexican or cajun black beans), Szechuan Bf was good (I prefer it a little spicier, but still good), and the Mei Fun (I believe it's what they call this noodle dish) was very filling. The food here is absolutely disgusting. Cold food, warm sushi, bland food. When i complained of the food, the staff wanted to argue with me for over 20min. and laugh. Our serving even stated "it's cold because its leftovers from lunch, it's dinner hour now so they will bring fresh food out soon". They are very rude an unprofessional. It's hard for me to decide whether to give this place two stars, or just one. I would have given it two stars, just because some of the fried vegetables were tasty, the decor was pleasant and the wait staff was friendly. But my colon is reminding me to vote one star. The "meat" in the broccoli beef and the broccoli chicken is unlike anything I've encountered in a chinese buffet. It's like fat, molded into the shape of the usual little cuts of meat that are typically featured in these dishes at other Chinese eateries. At first I thought I had just gotten a bite of some meat that had not had the fat properly trimmed off before cooking. But no, every single piece of "meat" in these dishes was the same repulsive consistency, with slightly more firmness than a "loogey" but certainly not as much firmness as an actual piece of animal flesh. (I am not a vegetarian but this experience has me seriously considering a permanent conversion to that mode of eating). The "sauce" in these dishes was a gooey, disgusting science experiment of some sort as well... not thin enough to be a fluid, not thick enough to be a paste. I feel queasy just remembering biting into the mushy, overcooked broccoli florets that were saturated with this mystery spunk. I thought I'd try the noodles. Surely no one can mess up noodles. Nope, I was wrong there too. The lo mein was literally some sort of spaghetti with ketchup stirred into it. Bear in mind, I ate small portions of the foods I didn't like, but since I was very hungry, I went a bit heavier on the bland fried rice and the overly greasy fried vegetables to make up for it. One plate of this stuff and it was diarrhea time folks. Luckily for me one of my companions had some imodium in her purse. I had taken several tablets and made at least two trips to the restroom before the quasi-oriental gut-bomb which I had unwittingly ingested was successfully de-fused. As far as pricing... It's always hard to know whether to tip at a buffet. You're already getting bent over at this place on the price, and then they come and refill your tea and take away your plate and all that, so you feel you have to give at least a token tip of a dollar, which I did. So for me alone, with a buffet, iced tea, measly one dollar tip and tax, my total came to over $11. For what had to have been no more than $3 worth of actual ingredients including the slimy sauces, the mystery meats and the dough and grease for the fried items. Oh yeah and the ketchup and bargain brand spaghetti that was used to construct the so called lo mein. The repeated trips to the restroom for the hershey squirts, and the mild nausea (that thankfully did not escalate into regurgitation), were delightfully enhanced by the fact that an entire section of the restaurant smelled strongly of moth balls. In addition to this, some of the grizzled, sickly-looking patrons emanated that "stale apartment" odor that comes from a person who very rarely leaves their home or cracks open a window to let in any fresh air. (I probably should have gotten a good look at some of these folks to see if I recognize any of them in upcoming episodes of A&E's "Hoarders".) As far as the "questionable people" mentioned by one reviewer here, I'm not sure exactly what that meant, but pretty much anyone who would eat at a Chinese buffet in the suburbs of northeast Dallas (myself included) probably falls into the "questionable" category, at least as far as sanity goes. read more

The selection of food is your average Chinese-American food. Saturday is crab night which is a big hit. The crab is boiled so it looses a lot of crab flavor but still good. I've been here before, good food, service okay. Today service was terrible, me and my wife were assigned a table that was not available (we were told it was available they were cleaning it).. we went to take food and went to the table and then a waiter came very rude saying the table was already taken by some people. I complained not because of the fact that someone was already sitting there but because of the attitude of the waiter, when I complained with him, and said you have cero customer service he responded "it's my business".
