I've visited this Roy Rogers location before and have never had any major issues, but my experience last night was extremely disappointing. I stopped by the drive-thru for a quick dinner and ordered a 2-piece chicken meal (chicken only), which I knew should cost around $9. There were only two cars ahead of me, yet I waited about 5-10 minutes before reaching the window. Once I got there, I waited another few minutes before anyone acknowledged me. A young employee told me my total was $16, which I immediately knew was incorrect. After confirming my order, he and another employee appeared confused and disorganized as they tried to sort out the drive-thru orders. Eventually, he corrected the total to about $9, charged my card, and handed me a bag. Before pulling away, I decided to check the bag--and I'm glad I did. Instead of my order, I was given fries and two sandwiches. I returned to the drive-thru window and told the same employee it wasn't my order. He took back the opened bag and then handed me another bag that was supposedly my correct order. Before leaving again, I checked the bag a second time. This time, the chicken box was torn open, and the chicken was partially exposed, making it appear as though the food had already been handled or returned. Whether or not that was actually the case, the presentation alone was unacceptable. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable eating it and requested a refund. Another employee, who may have been the manager but never identified herself, came to the window and simply asked if I wanted a refund. Within a minute, she handed me a void receipt that didn't even indicate the original payment method. When I asked how I could verify that my credit card would actually be refunded, she gave me two additional receipts. One receipt showed a 2 piece chicken order was paid with cash, even though I paid by card, and the other was simply a reprint showing a zero balance. When I inquired about the receipts, she gave me a poor & lackluster explanation stating there's no way to know where my receipt is amongst the orders. The refund process only added to the confusion. Overall, the customer service was disappointing. The staff appeared unorganized, unconcerned about resolving the issue, and more focused on joking around than providing good service. What bothered me most was that an opened bag of food was taken back and another visibly damaged container was handed to me without any concern for food safety or offering to prepare a fresh order. I ended up leaving without dinner and with very little confidence that the issue was handled properly. I hope management provides additional training on order accuracy, customer service, and proper food-handling procedures because this experience fell well below expectations. I returned chasing the nostalgia of my youth and was beyond disappointed. An over priced hockey puck burger that I literally consumed in 7 underwhelming bits. The employees were not mean or rude they were just, there. No friendly greetings and no thank you. I think if you come to this fairly new location looking to recapture the nostalgia of the past, you are setting yourself up for failure. I know when I was a child everything fast food tasted amazing, because it was a treat we would only get maybe twice a month. With that in mind and expectations low, I was overall satisfied. The drive thru line was a bit of a wait, but it was a long line so I waited patiently. Once I received my food and was able to eat it, I did enjoy the chicken -nice flavor, crunchy skin, with moist meat. The side of potatoes kinda had a school lunch taste, but they were edible. I grew up going to Roy Rogers, so finding one about an hour away brought back a lot of memories. The restaurant is cute, clean, and has plenty of seating both inside and outside, plus a drive-thru and its own parking lot. The staff was friendly, and it wasn't crowded, which made the visit more enjoyable. The food, though, was just okay. The chicken tasted like it had been fried earlier and kept warm, the biscuits were a little dry, and the coleslaw wasn't good at all. When I was a kid there was a Roy Rogers down the road from our house. Friday nights we would go there like pilgrims to a holy site, except our relics were roast beef sandwiches, Double R Bar Burgers, fried chicken, biscuits, and the great Fixin's Bar. The Fixin's Bar was a democratic paradise. Everyone was equal before the BBQ Sauce pump. I would make what I thought was the greatest sauce on Earth. Equal parts horseradish sauce and ketchup, stirred with a French fry until it turned the color of a salmon that had made a bad decision. You may think that sounds awful. It is not. When I heard that after decades without one, Roy Rogers was opening in Cherry Hill, I felt something between joy and disbelief. It was like learning your favorite childhood toy had been resurrected and was waiting for you in the living room. I went at lunchtime today and the place was jumping. The parking lot was a demolition derby in miniature. Either the design is bad or the drivers are bad or we are all bad. Inside it was clean and bright. I ordered a Double R Bar Burger combo and a fried chicken drumstick. My burger was still steaming when I unwrapped it and there was a generous piece of ham on top. I put some BBQ sauce on it and it was good enough to make me close my eyes for a moment and remember my family across the table, already halfway through their meals. The fried chicken though tasted like it had been cooked last week and stored in a desert. None of the seasoning I remembered. Just dry meat trying to hide behind a tired crust. Several Yelp reviewers have said they got sick here. I waited a few hours before writing this and am glad to report no gastric distress. I'm a sucker for a Roy Rogers - working at the mall in the 80s Roys was my go to meal. So when I heard they were opening in Cherry Hill I couldn't wait to check them out. We waited a bit since we weren't interested in waiting in all those long lines for "fast food" so today when there was no line we jumped on in. It's still bringing in the crowd and the dining room was full. We ordered and anxiously anticipated our burgers and our visit to the infamous "fixins bar". So many friendly, attentive staff. We didn't wait long before the food was ready. For not remembering they had chicken. It was memorable. Crispy, juicy and every bit as tasty as KFC. Our burgers were good and rank high on the fast food level burger maybe coming in just under a Wendy's burger, but the fixins bar is where it takes center stage. Just about anything you could want to top your burger with right there at your fingertips. It did run low during our visit but the attentive staff was on it and no one went without. We will be back to Roys, as it was only a treat to be found on road trips we now have easy access to this one. Be patient with them as they are new and the lines can get crazy. When I first heard Roy Rogers was coming back to South Jersey, I was ecstatic. I grew up on those roast beef sandwiches and burgers piled high at the Fixins Bar. It felt like something good and familiar was making a comeback. When I finally got there--three days after opening--the line was wrapped around the inside, cops were outside directing traffic, and the energy was electric. On the way home, I even started drafting a glowing review in my head. But a few hours later, everything changed. My stomach started to cramp. Nothing major at first--until it was. I was doubled over by evening, in full-blown agony by nightfall. I spent the entire night vomiting and sweating through waves of nausea that left me completely wrecked. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Now it's the next day, and I'm still in bed, wiped out, feeling like a truck hit me. This wasn't a little stomach ache or indigestion. This was food poisoning, plain and brutal. I don't know what it was--maybe something off with the meat, maybe cross-contamination at that beloved Fixins Bar--but something went very wrong. And while I wanted to love this place, and I did for a few fleeting hours... I'm now left feeling burned. Literally and figuratively. Be careful. We waited until all the hoopla and long lines died down before we made the foray down memory lane to try out Roy Rogers. Back in the 70s and 80s, it was a staple at the local malls. I vaguely remember liking their burgers. Once we got here, service was mediocre. Long wait to get orders taken, long wait to actually get the food, even though hardly anyone was really inside the restaurant. I am not sure why they use a sort of old fashioned and tedious procedure to actually get an order out, but it's not very expeditious. Food wise, it was OK. I enjoyed the burger and being able to pile on fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes and pickles the way I like it. I tried a chicken leg - hard, crunchy exterior, salty, but it was OK. And the fries - a little measly serving and OK taste. Gotta say, considering that the restaurant wasn't even crazy busy, the whole place was a mess. This was my first time to Roy Roger's since the late 80's. Pros: Food very good. Got the Chicken Tenders, fries and a drink Combo. Workers were efficient and polite. Looked like Manager was on site and he was directing the crew in a nice way. I went to eat inside the restaurant at 3pm on Thursday. There was a steady stream of customers inside and going thru the drive-thru. Price for quality of the food is good. Portions are good. Great that orders can be customized vis the kiosk. Cons: Place looked a little bit dirty. Windows need washing. Window sills need wiping down. Floor were swept but looked dirty. Bathroom needed cleaning. Fountain drink and Fixin's bar was disorderly. While there, an employee straightened it up. Overall: The staff looked pretty lean, meaning not enough workers. I saw 3. That is not enough to run a tip top restaurant. Someone should be assigned to lobby cleaning duty. Deep cleaning should happen on a regular basis. Key point: Your customer base skews older and older folks will not come back again if the place is dirty. Stop spending money on marketing and use it instead on cleaning and your business will exponentially improve. Nothing sells a restaurant better than CLEAN. The food here slaps but probably not as hard as the comments I'll see! Had the steak sandwich with cheese and it was not bad. Always could use more meat but that's because it's a fast food place. Super soft bun, steak was good onions etc. It brought back the memories of high school, being a mall rat, late night drinking and needing food, and broken dreams. Probably why I need to go see my therapist again. The creamy coleslaw hit well with the steak and cheese sandwich. And it even made me feel better thinking I'm eating more healthy having coleslaw instead of french fries. Inside and out clean and welcoming and the staff was super friendly and talkative. Delicious, crispy fried chicken! I ate the fried chicken before reading the reviews, so I was very worried about food poisoning. But fortunately I felt fine. The chicken was very tasty. For reference, I ordered inside (not drive-thru), so I could watch how they were handling and packing the food. When you're there watching, they're more attentive. I could see how people got sick though: the fixings table was exposed, hands grabbing this and that, and the tables and restaurant itself could be cleaner. I had been to new Roy Rogers in cherry hill 4 times now and every time.Except for the last time , the roast beef sandwiches were perfect. There were chunks of fat in the last roast beef that I had. I was very disappointed with the strawberry shortcake, so small, and expensive. The workers were very polite and cheerful, which is very rare in New Jersey fast food restaurants. Although I can't recall exactly the taste of the chicken, I would say that the chicken Was good. The Sexton's bar didn't quite hit the mark or it could just be that it is absent altogether and I'm just not recalling. The burger was amazingly pretty good but I also can't really match that up against the past since it's been so long. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich and felt sick to my stomach after just two bites. The meat was chewy and stringy, an awful texture for chicken. I suspected something was off with the first bite but gave it another try. Less than an hour later, I regret those bites, because my stomach is cramping, I'm praying it's not food poisoning. It wasn't worth the travel, the wait in line, or the money. My son had the two-piece chicken and said it was just okay, but he has no interest in trying it again. I was at the Gand Opening. It was so crowded. Roy Rogers give out to the first 50 customers a year of chicken for FREE yes for FREE. That line was long and unfortunately I didn't receive the chicken for the year. They all so give out goodie bag to everyone that was in line until they ran out. I did receive a goody bag amd it was fill up with key ring, ink pen,and little more. That was nice of them to even give out the tote bag. But I still stood in line to try the chicken to see if the chicken tasted the same. The Owners, staff and the helpers was very nice and helpful. Oh yes the chicken was fresh and hot. The taste was just like back in the day. Their was a bar with all your favorite toppings for your burger. Then you can put them on anything. The biscuit with strawberries and a top of Icecream was so delicious. Their was also a refillable sodas, tea machine and much more drinks. You can drink all you can so don't get full off the drinks. Their is not a lot of parking and they have a drive through. The service was fast and smooth if you know what you want. For the children they have a meal for them. The customers of all ages was in line for that chicken. No one cared about how long the line was. It was a very hot day I believe it was around 90 degress. All they wanted was that hot fresh chicken. Their wasn't a lot of parking people was parked in others parking lots. It was so hot they was passing out water. Some people was their for hours and their wasn't rest outside people was camped out over night just to get that chicken and the lucky ticket. It was hot that they didn't even have the ribbon cutting. The army guys did pit the American flag up in the pole. And some lady sung the The American Anthem song. I meet a lot of nice people. We laugh, talk, and we even at lunch together. This was an awesome day to welcoming Roy Roger's back. Go and try the chicken, fries, burgers, chicken tenders, what ever your taste buds tell you. The only thing I didn't like was the onion rings because the batter tasted like beer. The chicken peices were big hot and fresh juicy, the fries was hot and freshly cut then I ordered a large drink and you had to fill your cup up your self. I just hope the restaurant stay clean and that food stay delicious and fresh. I will definitely be back and bring my family. I give this restaurant a four stars because of the parking. When you visit you will be ordering more then chicken. That's what I did order for my husband, mom and sister and they all enjoyed the food. Being excited that they put a Roy Roger's directly across from our development we finally visited it today for lunch the menu is basically the same that we remembered and we're excited to try out are favorite roast beef my wife went for the regular and I opted for the large. After a few bites we both looked at each other the roast beef was way over cooked and dry and the bun was so stale it was crumbling in your hand absolutely horrible no amount of horseradish sauce could save these sandwiches. Not sure if we would return to try the chicken definitely would not try the roast beef again. read more

Where to begin. Ok for the nostalgic factor but not the food. While i understand it's going to be mobbed because of the newness of something from the past, there is no organization to this at all. Instead, I stupidly ordered a fried chicken meal, and let me tell you what a mistake that was. The chicken was stringy. As I bit into the chicken, I bit into a pocket of grease. The texture was vile. The french fries were dry and tasted like they were microwaved. I'm convinced that a Banquet TV dinner is better quality. I also got a Strawberry Shortcake. Gen X here. I grew up with Roy Rogers. It was delicious back then. I finally waited for the excitement to subside before I tried the reintroduction. As another reviewer noted, it hey asked to check my recipe to make sure I was getting the right order. I got one of my all time favs -The Double R burger and my husband got a chicken sandwich. We both had fries and coke zeros. The food was not visually appealing at all. Based on the presentation alone we knew we would be disappointed. Long story short, we were very disappointed. Terrible quality. The burger and the chicken sandwich looked like something I could get from Dairy Queen. It was just terrible. About an hour later I started feeling very nauseous. I had the 3 pieces fried chicken meal. The chicken breading was very crispy, although it's way too salty. The crunch is the best I've ever had, but the marinade and saltiness killed it. The chicken itself was kind of dry for the wings and thighs. The breast was ok, not super moist but not dry. Biscuit was good. Overall I still like Popeyes chicken better.
