After my friends had raved about this place for years, I finally decided to take them up on their invite one Monday, specifically for the live music. The artist was good, but the food was just okay, and the drinks were way overpriced, especially considering the bar's location and aesthetics. The service was subpar as well. Thinking that perhaps it was just an off night, I went back on another Monday. However, I ended up leaving after paying $18 for a shot of tequila. I thought maybe a third visit would be the charm. I had a friend in town who was interested in a speakeasy, and I had heard there was one here. So, I returned once more. However, once we were inside, we were turned away from the speakeasy because they claimed it was by reservation only, and my friend's plain white fitted t-shirt was deemed unacceptable. Shortly after, we saw two men walk into the speakeasy, one wearing a baggy white t-shirt and the other in a tank top. When we inquired about how to make a reservation, they directed me to Yelp. At this point, we settled for a $14 whiskey drink and decided to sit on the patio. But as soon as we sat down, a female server informed everyone on the patio that it would be closing in 30 minutes. Closing the patio at 9:30 PM is just crazy. I have no plans of ever going back to this place. I had the chance to try one of their new menu items; the Pupusa Chicken Sandwich. Lemme tell you...this thing is a delicious BEAST of a sandwich. It's a good sized chicken breast tossed in their signature seasoning and fried to perfection. Then it gets nestled between two loroco con queso pupusas and topped with cortido. For those not familiar with it, Loroco is an edible vine plant native to Central America and most commonly used in pupusas. It's got a tender consistency and tastes amazing with all the melty gooey cheese. Cortido is a pickled cabbage slaw and is a nice compliment to pupusas. Adding the final touch of goodness is the side of crispy golden fries. This new menu offering is a beautiful and super good lovechild of Central American and American fusion. I'm stoked to see what else is in the works and already looking forward to the next visit. Get on down and have one for yourself. I came here with my girlfriend to have a drink on a Friday night and the first person I see is the guy at the door his name was "Le Roy" he did not let us in because he saw I am Mexican and he wanted to keep this bar on par with the KKK he lied to me and said they were at capacity when they were clearly not as there was plenty of open tables and a surplus of space at their outdoor patio area. He the proposed we wait 30 min but gave us the option to wait in our car. We waited 30 min and came right back to the door then he acts like he didn't recognize myself and my girl and claimed they had closed the time was 11:30 pm it was obvious what was happening the bar was not closed there were plenty of people still inside ordering drinks. I used to be sort of a regular pre-Covid and I would bring people here to chill or play pool. It's different now. I will not be coming back. I was here last Friday and ordered food that never came. So I said "fuck it" and just ordered drinks from the bar. I assumed they didn't charge for the food because: A. I never got a confirmation (thru text or email) that my order was put in. B. I never got a receipt for the food order. So I went about my night and found out the next day that they charged me for the food I never got PLUS the tip. I went back today (Sunday) and apparently it was my fault because I was supposed to tell the bar that I ordered food. Then what is the point of having those "scan to order food" things on the table?! Anyways, they didn't do anything to rectify the situation except put the blame on me. I'll take the L, but I will NOT be coming back. Sorry. I used to love coming here. Went there for an event in the morning. Got 2 nachos, Bloody Mary, that was un drinkable and a coke. $54. Wtf. Menu had no prices. And the portions were small for that price. Walking around you could tell nobody was drinking their bloody Mary's and as they settled, you could tell half the cup was just tajin. (Which I like) but it seems like it was all tajin and hot sauce and nothing else. Not sure if they just made them like crap for the event but I've never had one so bad. They were served in 10oz plastic cups. Place was big and cute. Small bathrooms. Probably won't ever go back. Was there with my spouse for Sunday brunch. I ordered their old fashioned and the bartender served me something with cream in it (and the cream was curdled). My spouse ordered a cocktail that was supposed to feature toasted marshmallow, yet that was not included with her drink. Soon after getting served these drinks, our bartender went outside and sat in her vehicle for a while. It was pretty clear that it was time to leave so we asked our server for the bill who yelled something unintelligible from across the seating area. Came to this bar for a small business pop up shop they were doing in their back lot. But stayed for their Mother's Day brunch. They had a DJ up on stage. They do have a smaller menu than their usual but they did limit it because of COVID. Their outdoor dining was set up on their parking lot in the front but there is a decent amount of street parking. We had their appetizer platter, fajita plate, and chicken sliders which were all absolutely amazing. I recommend the appetizer because it just has everything and it is a sharable portion. Their chicken sliders were our personal favorites and highly highly recommend. They provide hand sanitizer and you do need a mask when entering. This was a visit on May 9, 2021. This used to be my go-to after-work bar for a colleague and myself. Great drinks, great food for the most part. But the last 3-4 times we have come in, the service has been reallllllyyyyy sllllllooooowww even though we are coming in during late afternoons on weekdays with very few customers in the bar. Staff is friendly, but little acknowledgement from them about why drinks take so long or sometimes even greeting us. One time we came in and we watched the bartender waste so many steps being inefficient and working slowly on one drink at a time. Is their bar set up inefficiently? Are their bartenders not trained in how to work on multiple drinks? If they are using this time of day to restock, etc. I get it, as I used to work in the restaurant industry. And a simple, "Be right with you, I have to finish this task first" would go a long way. And honestly, this slow-service-walking-one-drink-over-at-a-time-then-starting-another-drink situation has happened when we visited the Speakeasy out back with a large group. In the past, other bartenders have been great and most of them have been friendly. But the inconsistency of the service here and the wait time during non-peak hours has us looking elsewhere. read more

This place is kind of a hidden gem. It's welcoming to both an older crowd, and to young people like me ( lol ). There is a midsize dance floor and the music is varied ( hip hop , Spanish , etc). They have one pool table and it's fun to play while people stare at your game while waiting in line to use the restroom. On the downside the restrooms are only one stall and small, so people have to wait a while. Additionally, one specific bartender was rude when I was trying to order my drinks. I get that there is plenty of people trying to order, but a simple acknowledgment would be enough to make this a better experience. If you're in the Cal Heights/West Signal Hill areas, be sure to make Roxanne's one of your go-to libation headquarters. It's located right on Wardlow Rd just east of California Ave. This is a neighborhood establishment with much (MUCH) flare. Their main bar area is typical, although flawlessly designed. They also have a great outside dining/drinking area. So, this is a great outdoor spot in the spring/summer/fall. However, Roxanne's has a secret. There's a special room that seats about 30-40 people. It's their official "speak easy" spot. You have to get on the list to enter this room. Also, be sure to dress the part (think business casual rather than just casual). On Wednesday nights, they have special events in this room, so call ahead to see what they have. The bartender told us about an upcoming week where they brought in a sake distiller from Japan. They were going to showcase their spirits. That's an awesome event. Now, not only are the ambiance and festivities great at Roxanne's, but the food is pretty good too. We went during happy hour and had just about everything on the menu. It was all good. Just be mindful that if you go overboard, your bill is going to be a bit hefty. However, each libation and eats will be well worth it. So, when you're in the Cal Heights area of Long Beach, make this your "meet up" destination. This gem will deliver on all fronts. read more

After getting lunch with a buddy of mine, we came here for some drinks. He told me that this place had a hidden bar behind a trap door. Unfortunately, this hidden portion of the bar was not open that day... only weekends. But it was no issue, as we hung out in the main area of the bar and ordered drinks there. I asked about their rum options, and they gave me several. Both were amazingly good, and pretty smooth. They got me buzzed pretty fast, in spit of having just eaten a large meal prior to coming here. The decor here has a nice low-light ambient. It's perfect to relax after a stressful day, or to bring a date. Parking was no issue here, there is a small lot adjacent to the building. There were not a lot of people here that evening, but granted, it was a weekday. I don't know how busy this part of LB gets on a weekend evening. Sat right in front of the bartender as he was making some drinks and waited for him...5 mins passed...10 mins passed...and nothing! Not even an "I'll be right with you!"
