NEVER use these people. Waited all day for them. They show up at 8 pm then have the nerve to charge after hours fees for all of their services. They did not tell us there was an after hours fee and they were the ones 5 + hours late. They also charged us an emergency fee...this was in no way an emergency. On top of all this, they couldn't find our leak. We hired another plumber who found the issue and fixed it for a reasonable price within an hour. I repeatedly asked how much things would cost and was given the run around and told not to worry because our insurance would definitely take care of it. Believing them was stupid on my part. When we called to discuss outrages charges- such as $50 to sweep a floor that THEY - got dirty, it took 2 months to finally speak to someone. Got home last night after a week long trip only to find out the water heater was leaking from the top. Called Roto Rooter immediately and they scheduled an appointment for first thing in the morning. Lenny was our plumber/technician, and he's a rock star. He took a quick look, realized that the water heater needs to be replaced. We were still under warranty, so he called warranty company, got the replacement approved, went by the store, got and replaced the water heater, all in a matter of 3 hours. Great job Roto! Please dont count on them to actually show up to scheduled appointment. Our water is off and we were relieved when we set an appointment for a plumber to come out and help us. We were told someone would be out between 4-8 so we cancelled our plans and waited. At 445 I recieved a call tellimg me that they would not make it and could fit us in on monday. Are shannon m., bob z., and sean d. all Roto-Rooter employees? They're all 1-and-done reviewers, posted in a 3 week span. Maybe the same person. Looks suspicious. In 2002, Roto-Rooter came out to my house to repair a water main leak. The guy, first name starts with L, was unprofessional, borrowed my PVC cement stored in the garage. Water pressure was a little lower after the repair. I believe he got dirt in the main water line. I had to buy a new washing machine for shortly after that could work with lower pressure. In 2005, the main water line began leaking in the same spot as the repair. It was no longer under warranty. I called RotoRooter again in hope that they would realize their shotty work, and give me a discount. Big mistake. No discount. This time the guy was 2 weeks out of training, and a very slow worker. First he quoted me $1200 to dig up the main water line, and lay in copper pipe. I paid day laborers a $100 to dig. Then his price came down to $350 for just the pipe replacment. He took about 10 hours to lay the pipe in the ground and make the connection. Nice guy, but not competent. Low water pressure continued. Usable for household stuff, but sprinklers can barely function. 2010. Extremely low water pressure in every faucet. Unlivable conditions. I blame sediment or dirt in the main line. Must call plumber again. This time it will be Union Jack or Christiansen brothers. Conclusion: It's important to do things right, and RotoRooter does not. read more

We had a problem with our hot water heater's pilot light. It would not stay lit. Our service tech, Carrie, showed up on time (actually faster than we had anticipated). He fixed the problem within an hour and was on his way. Before he left, however, he gave us great feedback regarding the problems, possible solutions for the future should this happen again, and a warning about Texas laws changing soon in regards to hot water tanks. Great service and very informative, will definitely call them again! read more

My husband chose this company because our kitchen drain was clogged and they could come out on the same day as called. We were given a 2 hour window, which was great. As agreed, the technician called and said he was on his way. My husband raced home from work to meet him. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, the technician arrived: Strike 1. He surveyed the problem and quoted us $340 for a job that he agreed would take less than 30 minutes to solve: Strike 2. He advised us that we could print a coupon from their website to reduce the price to $300 for a job that would (still) take less than 30 minutes: Strike 3 Our drain is still clogged, but we have not had $300 stolen from us. Our Kitchen Drain clogged. I had already spent time on clearing my drain so I gave him exactly what to do. He spent 15 min running a snake through drain cleanout point and charged $320. The drain clogged again in a week. He shows up again and says he would charge another $350 to put snake through the drain under kitchen sink directly. When I argued and told him that I had only one problem that my kitchen drain was clogged and that still is my problem. How can you charge $350 more... He did some drama calling his boss and all and then runs another snake through the kitchen sink drain hole. But no progress and kitchen is still clogged. Then he runs a camera (and says I will do it for Free)...and then in a minute came up with diagnosis that there is a Belly in the line and it would cost $14500 to fix it. He went without fixing my problem and giving me wrong diagnosis. Then I ended up calling my warranty company and they sent somebody who also ran a snake first but told me that there is greese in the pipe and snake is puncturing it and not actually cleaning it. He suggested we do drain jet cleaning with pressurized water. He did that in 30 min and all started working properly. I would never call them again ever. read more

***DON'T USE ROTO-ROOTER IN AUSTIN*** I've never been one to write a bad review. I've never had service so bad that I'd take time to blast them...until now. I noticed last week that my toilet was just constantly running. I looked in the tank and promptly realized I had no clue, so called RR. Great, they'll come out on Sunday between 1p and 3p. On Sunday 9/1, the guy strolled in at 4:30p. Took a look, went to get parts, did 15min of work, and charged me $351 (after $40 coupon). So, yay, it is fixed...but nope. It starts running again. After an apology, RR assure me that they can come on Tuesday 9/3 between 1p and 2p. After almost 7hrs, no one has shown. I'm like WTF. I have to get ready for work. More apologies...we're running behind and short-staffed. We can come out Thursday between 1p-3p for sure because it is typically overstaffed. Thursday 9/5: Lady calls me every hour saying we'll get to you but we're running back. At 3:45, same lady tells it just not going to happen today but we can get you in tomorrow 1:30-3:30. Friday 9/6: I call at 4:15p for an ETA. "So sorry...it has been a heck of week...I have some guys sick..." At this point, I pull a Karen and request to talk to a manager. I was told that it won't get me serviced quicker but I can be transferred. I sorta kept my cool when I explained my problem to Vanessa who assured me there will be no additional charge, she'll look into getting me a refund, and for sure we can get you in tomorrow morning 9a-10a because "we have nothing on the books for tomorrow." Saturday 9/7: I received a call at 9:33 stating someone should be out around 10. At 11:15, I call for an update. We have a guy who will be finishing up a job in 15 min and we'll get him out to you. It is now 12:30 and I receive a call from dispatcher saying that she wasn't told that the guy that she was going to sent has to go to a funeral and she just know made aware, so there is another guy on another job who will be dispatched to my house once he's completed the other job. At 1:27p, I was told someone will be out in 30min. At 1:50p, I was told it would actually be another 45min. At 2:45, a very nice man Oscar came. I wasn't ugly to him but I'm still never using RR again. Tuesday 9/10: Called to talk to Vanessa about my refund. Was told she stepped away and to call back in 1hr. So, it did and was told she was on another call, and she would give me a call right after which she did not. Friday 9/13: Called at 2:14p to speak to the Branch Manager. Was told they are either on a call or away from their desk but they will call me. Called back at 3:30p and was told that my message would be passed along and manager will call me. Called back 4:45 to the direct branch ph# which routed back to regional/national ph#. Was told that they must have left early and will get you to their voicemail but, instead, I was put on hold again. Called back at 4:50pm to get to a voicemail but was told by another person that she didn't have the direct extension, so she will pass along the message. Update: I received a call from Dell in field operations. He provided me with a 50% refund. Clarification: Actual technicians were polite and professional. My issue was with how the situation was managed. read more

Roto-Rooter Plumbers 8/13/10 Discovered a BIG leak in my downstairs bath and bedroom in the middle of a work day. Called Roto Rooter and they had someone out within 2 hours. One hour later pipe was replaced and leak stopped. Curtis was our technician and he was polite, efficient and walked me through the problem and showed me how to turn everything off in case of future leaks. Def reco. WOW! WOW! WOW! I called and got a very nice tech out on a Saturday. He said he was scheduling another tech with a camera to come out on the following Monday. No call. Then on Tuesday afternoon I missed a call from Illinois which come to find out was a tech on his way to the house. When I called to let them know that I was not home since there was no appointment I was told that they would try again later. 7 calls and one disconnection later I am still completely lost as to if or when these folks will ever show up. If this is a franchise then corporate needs to jerk the license and sell it to a more organized and professional local company. Sorry to see such a great brand go so far down the toilet. Called them about a a clogged sink. I asked for a price range. She said she couldn't give one until a technician performed a thorough review. The plumber got here, looked at the sink, opened the door under the sink and said, "that'll be $250." Stay far away from this business and its representatives. While the work they perform is adequate (not great or even good; adequate!), their business practices toe a fine line bordering on unethical and even illegal. While you negotiate with them to take on a job, they will promise everything: perfect work and complete satisfaction, follow thorough with your insurance company, help with contractors, etc. But once you sign their completion form, good luck ever hearing from them again -- no matter how many problems, unresolved claims, contractor disputes, whatever. They do not return calls or communicate in any way. In our case, they also simply sent their "preferred contractor" to our home who represented their company as affiliated with our insurance company. We contracted them, thinking that it was in our best interest and, in short, they were disastrous: way over projected timeline and budget. Again, radio silence from Roto-Rooter. Unfortunately I had to deal with this company due to my landlord, but I can't imagine it gets worse than this. 1. Didn't show up & tried to reschedule twice . Found out the next day that he wasn't even approaching the issue through the correct drain pipe. Kept telling us he needed to tear out our wall to get to the problem. Larry B from Roto Rooter is great. Had a difficult time with my home warranty company. Roto Rooter showed up promptly and although my home warranty was difficult and took up a lot of time on the phone with me and with Larry. They told me they could not process my claim because I had left a negative review over how they would not call me back. Larry was very professional. Polite, courteous and patient on a Saturday night when everyone has better things to do! Because of the dispute with the warranty company I paid Roto Rooter out of pocket. Larry was very reasonable and because of him I would rate them very highly. Larry is a great credit to his company and left me with a great impression. Roto Rooter should look after him well. Just terrible!!! If I could give a fat Zero, I would! Where to begin????? I called due to a lack of pressure through out the house. I had a nice enough guy "Scott" come out and tell me what the problem was and how to fix it. I asked him to go ahead and do the work. He came back to the house about 30 min. later and said my pressure valve was broken and therefore, could not adjust the pressure. It would need to be replaced. Since he did not have the valve with him, we both agreed that we would meet the next day at 3pm at my house so he can do the work. Well, 3pm comes around and I'm thinking he is probably in traffic so I'll give him 10-15 more minutes. I called his mobile number which he had given me the day before but he would not answer. I called the company number and they said they would figure out what was going on. Around 4:30 Scott calls and said he is on his way and that he was late due to another job taking longer than planned. Around 5:30, he is still not here. I called the company number and they said he was logged off and would not answer his phone. I spoke to the dispatcher, not a manager and said they would send some one. This would be the second day in a row I had to take a 1/2 day from work. I also had to cancel my 2 son's swim lessons that I had already paid for and could not reschedule or get a refund for. The second plummer never showed up. I called the number again. The dispatcher said, I don't know what is going on. They later called and said that the second plumber had gotten a flat (they do carry phones but I guess they do not use them) and was waiting on AAA to get his tire fixed. The dispatcher said that they did have some one available so they would send him. The third plumber called me later that evening. We discussed what happened and how dissatisfied I was and then he asked me what Scott's quote for the work was. After I told him, he said I won't do that work for that price so let me talk to my boss and see what we can do about it since we have not done a good job for you. NO ONE EVER REACHED OUT TO ME ABOUT ANYTHING. Done and Done with these guys!!!!!! Wasted time, effort and I had to pay for this abuse. The worst part was that I gave them a chance over and over. Shut down water to the entire apartment complex for 7+ hours...not sure how long yet cuz they are still not done! Were told 2 hours tops. Had we known it would be longer we would have prepared by filling water jugs and the bathtub, now we have no water, no toilet, no shower, nothing! I called RR this morning at 9:00am about replacing a seriously leaking garbage disposal. The person I talked to seemed to be at their national call center. She promised someone would be here between 10:00am and 12 noon. At 10:40am, I got a call from a dispatcher saying the guy was on his way. At 12:30pm, he still wasn't here, so I called back to get the status. They told me they were having problems reaching the plumber because he was in an area where he couldn't get cell calls (I privately wondered how they knew this and where the guy might be in Austin that he couldn't get cell calls... I mean, does that really happen anymore?). Anyways, they told me they'd dispatch another plumber ASAP and someone would be contacting me in a few minutes to give me the details. An hour later nobody had called or shown up, so I called back to cancel. From my experience and reading other reviews, they seem like any typical corporate service-related company these days... High on price, low on service. I'll stick with somebody local that I can trust for plumbing issues from now on. read more

If I could give zero stars, or even better, minus stars I would do so. This is one of the very worst companies with which I've ever dealt. We have a person suffering from Alzheimers in our household and repair work in the home, and even awaiting the arrival of an expected repairman, can be very upsetting to them. I first contacted Roto Rooter to repair a clogged toilet. On that occasion the technicians did not arrive until nearly 4 hours after the promised 8AM -noon window, and the long delay was terribly upsetting to the person with Alzheimers. When they finally arrived the technicians informed me we needed to replace both our toilets. In setting up the appointment for the installation the following day, I explained to the agent that because of our special circumstances we would need to arrange a more definite time. The agent promised the installation would take place (several days later) sometime during a 2-hour window early that morning. With that in mind I arranged for a care giver to take the patient away from the premises during the time the installation was to occur, purchased two new toilets and transported them to my home in my truck. On the arranged day, the care giver duly escorted the patient away from our home and I awaited the arrival of the technicians. The appointed window came and went with no sign of the technicians. I began phoning Roto Rooter repeatedly, every half-hour or so. In every instance I experienced long wait-times on hold, and was told each time that they were "running behind" and that they had no idea when technicians might actually arrive. After over 4 hours (the time contracted to have the patient out of the house) the care giver returned with the patient. Again, despite repeated phone calls (all with excruciatingly long wait-times on hold), over three more hours passed with no technicians. At one point I talked with a supervisor to whom I again explained our special circumstances and he assured me he would try to rectify the matter asap. Some time later, however, another agent finally informed me that it would still be hours before technicians would appear. It was now after 3 PM, six hours later than the end of the promised window at 9AM. Once again, the Alzheimers patent had grown very agitated by the delay. In great frustration, I told the agent to cancel the appointment entirely and that I would be leaving a decidedly negative review of Roto Rooter. This appeared to unsettle the agent who phoned me back minutes later, full of apologies, to leave a message that technicians (miraculosly, I guess!) suddenly had become available whom she could send over "soon". My patience having by now expired completely, I did not bother to answer her message. I shall certainly never do business wth Roto Rooter again! read more

Getting a camera person to come out is an absolute JOKE. We had someone come out 10 days ago to get a clog out of the pipe. The tech completed it and told us he would have a camera guy come out in the next three days so he could locate our septic tank for us. After three days of no call I called and scheduled an appointment for Monday afternoon camera guy never showed, so I called Monday evening to reschedule for Tuesday afternoon. The dispatcher I spoke with me know the camera techs don't work past 5pm so at 4 on Tuesday I called because I hadn't heard anything. The dispatcher who was probably the nicest person I spoke to told me he would send a message to the camera person. Another no show! I called again at 5 and the lady was rude and basically hung up on me. Now it's Wednesday my toilet has been moved for 10 days because the tech informed me it would be 350 dollars for them to move it and no one can give me a straight answer as to why the tech has not come to my house to camera my pipe. Everyone tells me someone is busy and they will have them call me back or I need to call back. I can't spend my whole day calling you guys or waiting at home for a tech to keep coming! This seems pretty ridiculous since my downstairs bathroom has been completely out of service for the past 10 days! Once I get this issue resolved I will never use this company again or recommend to anyone!! read more
