I had issue in a rental property so the plumbing wasnt working properly. Roto Rooter on Longhorn Drive sent a young but intelligent plumber that knew right away exactly want was happening to the old plumbing system. Isaac worked hsrd for almost a day to deal with a disastrous situation including a Landlord that refused to deal with the major up keep of his property I leased temporarily. So as he worked through dealing with a landlord upset and plain nasty he still was calm and knew how to speak to an angry man. He is very patient waiting on word if to replace three toilets on the property or one since the property is digging his heels not replacing three toilets Issac remained professional the whole time.....I was shocked how well he conduct his business so well reason why he was given five stars. Highly recommend the service the cleanup and amazing person he is. I will hope because of his age he will be a top notch plumber......in his future. There is nothing worse than waking up to your toilet backing up into your tub. We typically handle our home repairs but this was beyond our ability. From the moment I called, Mary was friendly and helpful. Oscar came out and worked in the morning heat to clear the tree roots that had gotten in our line. He was friendly and efficient and explained the process every step of the way. Thankfully he cleared the problem and was able to get us back in business. Mary checked in on us a few times and her customer service was phenomenal. As a teacher preparing for the school year this was the last thing I needed to face today. Our new refrigerator came on Saturday Memorial Day weekend, only for us to discover that we couldn't disconnect the water line - it'd become frozen after 20 yrs. Roto Rooter advertised "Memorial Day Weekend calls in one hour," and that looked better so we called. They advised $69 fee if we chose no service. Fair enough. Then it took nearly 4 hours waiting by the phone until a junior repairman arrived, with RR making multiple calls to thank us for our patience! After a brief inspection, he quoted $650 to cut our & replace the box. We declined, he called his manager & dropped the bid to $380 ($270 off original high bid). At that point I said I'd take my chances & paid the $69. We engineered a workaround, and Tues a 2nd plumber came out, laughed at RR bid & quoted 30 minutes labor for under $100 total bid estimate. Roto Rooter lied about dispatch time, sent junior staff, gave us a ridiculous high bid & generated $69 service fee. Disgusting. Don't waste your time. Tell all your friends. I had to show them how to unscrew the tub drain. 2 hours later, they gave up, said the pipe had collapsed, and charged "only" $215. Called a real plumber, who called Johnny Rooter. Johnny Rooter cleared the drain in about 5 minutes and charged $158.50. read more

We open a service call they didn't show up until the next day to tell us they need to get a camera guy out, that didn't happened until 4:00 pm, no work was done but, I'm still being charge over $500 which we had no issue paying, however, when I went onsite and saw the an employee wrote a check without consent I stopped it, then I see that no work was done, we had water still all over the building into our front kennels. The Lawanna lady keeps telling me I'm going to jail etc, unethical and for her to disclose personal financial info to third parties that aren't part of the business that's uncalled for. I had a conversation with her BOSS that was as rude as her and didn't take any action in regards on how she's contacting me and threatening me. We called the Austin, TX dispatcher number for Roto Rooter. Roto Rooter made a service call for sewer clean out. Total cost of service call plus quote on clean out under a building was $2,500. We called another local rooter company to get a second opinion. Their total bill of $567 was based on two visits plus mileage. Their technicians were courteous, professional, and did a good job. We needed a quick fix to our toilet. They sent out someone who was very incompetent who spent 30 minutes "trying" to fix the issue. We pay and go about our day into the evening only to find that the issue was never fixed. He basically did nothing. The incompetence level I am talking about was at the level that the poor guy couldn't even spell simple words in his report on the receipt. Pitiful. We called to have someone come out the next day and were told they would have someone out between 10-12. We spent our entire Saturday waiting around for a technician to show up. By 6 pm my husband tried to fix it himself and succeeded. This was the last Saturday before we are induced with our first child. Thanks roto rooter for ruining it with your horrible service. I simply needed the water to my sink turned off, and the valves under the sink weren't working. I called to find that even though they advertise for 24/7 service, the best they could do was et someone to me in two days. I looked elsewhere, and finally decided I could wait two days, and called back. I asked if they could tell me how much the service call to turn off my water would cost. They wouldn't give me a price, saying the tech would arrive, and give me an estimate. On the day of the service call, someone from Roto-Rooter calls me and asks if I really just want someone to turn off my water. I tell them I do. She then huffily tells me it'll be very expensive. I told her I'd asked for a price, but had been refused one. She seemed very put out that I didn't want more services. Again she says it'll cost a lot, and again I tell her I'd asked for a price when I called. Finally, she snarks at me that it'll be over $200 for the call, and I laughed and told her if they'd only told me that, I wouldn't have sheduled with them. I was then quoted $650 (yes, you read that correctly) to have an old, broken garbage disposal removed and replaced with pipe. Um, no thanks. We had/have a water leak...it is the pipe that connects to the water line for the ice maker for the refrigerator.  My husband called on Monday (9/13) and was told someone would be out by 3 pm.  At 5 pm, they called ((512) 726- 0357) and said they could not make it but would be by Tuesday by 2 pm.  At 4 pm, a guy showed up.  He apologized, took a look, said he did not have the correct tools for pvc pipes (what decent plumber doesn't have tools to work on pvc).  He said he would be back first thing in the morning...between 8:30 and 9 am and would make sure we got a discount for the delays.  At 10:30 this morning, my husband called...no one had showed up or called.  The person he talked to said they don't work on manufactured homes.  IT IS A PIPE UNDER THE HOUSE...A PIPE LIKE ANY OTHER PIPE.  Nothing but a bunch of worthless liars....and they wanted $800 for the repair.  Not like we were asking for charity.  We would have paid even without a discount. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Roto-rooter and was called back to re-schedule, as my original appointment time was unavailable. The next day I waited 4 hours, which became 6 hours, which became 8 hours before I decided to cancel. Generally, when I make appointments with vendors/contractors, it's a fairly straight-forward process: Two parties agree on a time in which they will meet. This seems like a reasonable expectation. My goals WAS to have the plumber look at a small issue today, and then see if this is a company I can use on all my properties and one new construction. Because Roto-rooter takes a more ambiguous and less accountable approach to meeting appointments, I've decided to take my business to another contractor, one that can make time to make the appointment, and one hopefully that will result in a long-term business relationship. Called two local plumbers here in Austin- Lakeway, Texas. First one was was closed on Saturdays and the other wanted to charge a premium for Saturday afternoon service call. I decided to call Roto-Rooter because they advertise 24/7 service and no up charge on weekends. Lenny the plumber was great and showed up within an hour of calling Roto-Rooter. He fixed our leaking pipe within about one hour and actually gave us the parts at no charge because he had them on the truck. The final charge was very fair for coming out on a Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm and getting the job done in about an hour. I would call Roto-Rooter next time and would ask for Lenny. read more

I'm mainly unhappy with the price as they changed 1 water hose on my washing machine which took all of 3 minutes and the cost was $300 ($29 for the part). It took about 30 minutes to process my credit card so I thought that was pretty funny since it only took 3 min to do the actual job. I asked how they charged (thinking it can't be per hour) because the labor cost was about $100 dollars per minute. The guy said we charge by "task". As a single woman with no family here I have to pay to have this type of thing done, but I kind of feel like I got robbed. $271 for labor for 3 min of switching out a hose... Also they changed the date and time twice which was frustrating since I had to take time off from work and then take more time off when they changed the time again. I have never written a review for any service I have had in the past. But today was different. Jose and Jesus arrived at my house on time, spiffed up right, in a clean new van and ready to go. I say this because I also had called another plumber prior to calling Roto-Rooter. He showed up 3 hours late, sloppy dressed and the van was a mess. He didn't know what to do or tell me and still charged me for showing up and walking around scratching his head only to ultimately tell he couldn't figure it out or fix / stop the water leak. So, back to Jose and Jesus. They were empathic to my situation. Listened closely to what I was experiencing, and within 15 min, found the culprit and fixed it. No mess, no confusion, all professional and their many years of experience was overwhelmingly obvious. I can not thank Roto-Rooter and specifically Jose and Jesus for their outstanding customer service! So, if you ever find yourself in need of a Plumber, you have a trustworthy friend in Roto-Rooter and may get to meet Jose and Jesus. And I know, then at that time, you too will be amazed with their service. Do not call another chuck in a truck or man in a van. It will be a waste of your time and money. They said 4-6 pm. 6:30pm Wednesday and no one had called. Called twice to find out what was going on. 90 minutes later they called me back at 7:45 to cancel again. People have lives. Things work a lot differently in Texas then they do back home (NC). For instance, we have learned that in Texas you would call a plumber if you need help unhooking an old gas stove and hooking up a new one. This is exactly what we needed to do so my husband called Roto-Rooter yesterday to see when someone could come out. Lucky for us, they said they had availability today and quoted us a window of 9 to 11 a.m. Unlucky for us, they apparently do not know how to tell time. Nor to they understand the simple principal of customer service. We were up and ready early in case the plumber showed up right at 9. We hung around the house until 11, no plumber and no word from Roto-Rooter. 12 p.m - no plumber...1 p.m - no plumber. At 1:30 my husband calls in to see what was going on and was told that they were running behind. Ok, it would have been nice for you to let us know that. 2 p.m - no plumber, 3 p.m - still no plumber.... 3:30 pm we get a call from Roto-Rooter promising they have not forgotten us and that someone would still be coming out but they couldn't give us a specific window. My husband informed them that we needed to run a couple of errands (like eating lunch/dinner since we don't have a stove to cook on) an asked them to please give us a call 20 - 30 minutes prior to the plumber arriving so that we can make sure we are back at the house. They said no problem. We went out had a late lunch/early dinner and popped into Ikea. Around 5 pm, Roto-Rooter called my phone (despite having spoken with my husband several times and being told that his number was the primary number) and left a message asking me to call them back. I didn't have my phone on me because again, they were supposed to call my husband, so I didn't get the message until 6:30. When I called them back the guy I spoke with was slightly rude, he informed me that they were calling about the service we requested but it was too late to have someone come out now. It was almost as if they were mad that we left the house. Apparently the plumber had showed up to the house while we were out and was upset that we weren't home. First of all, if you quote a window for a customer then you really should be there during that window BUT we are reasonable people so we understand that shit happens. If you aren't going to make your window time the the very least you can do is call us to let us know! Second, it is completely unreasonable to expect that people continue to sit around their house waiting when you are 7 hours past the window time. So don't get pissed at us because it was our time that was wasted first. In the end, its our bad for having booked an appointment with Roto-Rooter. If we would have looked at Yelp then we would have known that this company is not one to waste your time on. It is also our bad for counting on a chain type plumbing company instead of supporting a local pop shop. On the bright side, I guess it all worked out because having now read the other reviews, we would have probably overpaid significantly for their services and now we can put our business with a more deserving local company. read more

Lenny kicks ass! Had an insurance claim for a pipe leak in our master bath vanity. Original plumber assigned by insurance determined the "problem" and sawed off a water line and capped it to "stop the leak" and fix later when insurance approved their $1400 estimate. Turns out insurance only covered taking out the vanity and repairing water damage and replacing with new vanity, so now I'm stuck with finding a plumber to fix the actual problem. Called Roto-Rooter in the evening and receptionist was very helpful and set us up for next day service between 8a-10a window. I was called at 8:30a to tell us someone was on their way in half hour. Lenny showed up and looked at the issue and found out that there was a separate leak at the line faucets and didn't understand why the other water pipe going to the garden tub (which we never use) was cut up and capped. He fixed it all in record time and about $1200 less than what the insurance plumber was quoting. People, if you're bitching about pricing, then you should YouTube how to fix your own shit... You'll save a ton. However, if you want it done right go to someone that's insured and bonded... Money very well spent! Plumbers are always in demand, so get a fucking grip and wait for them if you really need the work done. When the workman showed up, he said it would probably be around $375 - ended up at $511. Try anyone else first. All I can say is do not call this company. First of all, they did not come when they were suppose to. When technician came (next day) he didn't even bother to check the problem before saying it needed to be replacement. He did not make any attempt to get it working. The price I was quoted for the job was outrageous (more than double what other companies charge). Since I declined the repairs, the technician made threats to file a complaint with the city of Austin because my wiring was not "up to code". A little strange, since this wiring passed inspection and it worked for me for the past 14 years. What a jerk! Called a different plumber. The problem with the water heater was not the electrical wiring, but calcium built up on the heating element. Cost to replace the water heater with a new one is $900, not $2400 like Roto-Rooter wanted. The garbage disposal replacement cost is $100 (parts & labor), not $370 that Roto-Rooter wanted. I requested the last appointment possible for that day because I work in downtown Austin and would have to come all the way to Hutto. I was given a call at 12:08 to let me know that they were on their way so I needed to reschedule for Saturday. I was given an appointment for 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. and requested first available if possible. I was told that that should be fine. I wasted my entire Saturday morning waiting on them and even called to see if they had an estimated time and was told they would call me back. My sewer line clogged up and water accumulated in bathtub, shower stall, leaked around one commode, other commode would not flush and could not be plunged. This happened at 2:30 PM on Saturday. Not a good time to get service and my regular plumber was not available. So, I looked at YELP. The star ratings and the comments on Roto Rooter were less than encouraging. But, I decided to chance it and gave them a call at their national number 737-932-7257 as posted on their web site. Things happened fast. The dispatcher said they could have someone here in 2 hours or less. I got a second call that the technician would arrive in about 30 minutes. He showed up on time. He was professional in explaining the process by which he would check the problem out and would give me a quote and then I could proceed or not. He determined what I already expected he would find when he opened the inspection cover and that fluid and solids which should have passed on to the city sewer drain made their presence known. I will not get into the odiferous and visual details. I told Eli, the technician, to proceed. He offloaded a large and heavy piece of gear containing the cutting head, shaft and power source and snaked this apparatus into my sewer line while the cutting heads skived away any obstruction. Soon, the blockage was cleared, the water drained and all fixtures inside my house also drained and the toilets were able to flush. Based on the matter trapped in the cutter teeth, Eli suspected a tree root had invaded the line. Not surprising considering that three live oaks are in close proximity. They have aggressive root systems. His truck lacked a camera for internal pipe inspection, but he provided a quote for future camera service at a reduced price. I was very pleased with the speed of response, the way I was kept informed by the dispatcher, the excellent and efficient work done by the technician to clear the line and his feedback to me about the root cause of the problem (pun intended). It was unfortunate that his truck did not have a camera, but I was very happy to get this clog cleared on a Saturday within 3 hours of my call that I am not counting the lack of a camera inspection in my rating. We had been worried we would be using the bathrooms at WalMart. over the weekend. And, forget about taking a shower. Instead the house was back to normal. So, I give 5 stars for this experience. I do not have any previous experience or connection to Roto Rooter. In the end, the level of service depends upon the people who show up.
