Wow...just wow. I called the main number to make an appointment for someone to come out today to talk about trenchless pipe repair and/or pipe relining of a waste line. This was two days ago. The day of the appointment I get a call from them saying that they don't do these types of services? what? it's clearly stated on the roto rooter website: http://www.rotorooter.com/residential/sewerlinereplacement.php If a local company doesn't do particular services they should have a their OWN local website saying that. These are the guys you want to hire if you want to pay 4x the cost! I recently had an issue with a backed up drain. They promised (and charged) to run a camera down the clean-out the first time. They didn't. The second time, two weeks later, they did run the camera and found a problem that required removing a section of the 4" waste that was 2' under the front yard. The estimate - $2800. When I started asking him why it was so much he started throwing out lots of interesting numbers of how long it would take to dig, replace and refill. Well, a call to a major, local Austin-based plumbing contractor, who happened to find two problems when they inspected (one completely missed by Roto-rooter), left me with a competing bid of - you guessed it - $700. Save your time and money - use someone else. read more

Do not do any business with Roto-Rooter Services Company, specially do not give them your insurance info. I'm currently one of their victims as the age of 74 years old, living with my wife who is the same as my age, we were both retired, poor health conditions. They were advertised as one of BBB members and because of that I called them to come to our house to give us a quote on our plumbing problem and we had no idea they are big time FRAUD. The company is located on 3403 N. Sam Houston Pkwy, Houston, Tx. 77086. Phone: 713-934-8208. The day they came, without gave us any quotes, they asked for my insurance information, they called my insurance to verify the coverage on the policy and they assured me that they spoke to my insurance company and relayed to me that the insurance company agreed to pay for all the repairs. I was told that all I had to do was sign the authorization papers which allowed them to send the bill directly to my insurance company and I did. I did not understand that they made me sign the application to finance with Synchrony Bank so they could get paid. I told them we were retired and have no money. They kept on telling me don't worry a thing, they will take care of everything and I don't have to pay anything because my insurance will pay for all of the repairs. They're taking advantage of me and my wife as an old couple who does not speak English well, they forced me to sign finance papers without explaining to me. Furthermore, they caused more damage to my house and my standard of living by ripping the flooring off, removing all of my doors, and breaking a few of my furniture. They did all of this without hearing and getting approval from my insurance company first. My wife and I suffered in these conditions for over a month and the damages are still unrepaired. To add onto the damages, they left this work unfinished and overbilled me more than $30,000. Plus another bill from Synchrony Bank for $4657, then they sent a certified letter stated that they will put a lien on our home. My wife and I was terrified when we got the letter. My wife and I cannot carry this debt as our age that cost us by Roto-Rooter Services company. Please share our story to anybody that you know so they don't be one of their victims like us. read more

You know, I made an appointment with Roto-Rooter, and then while I waited for them to arrive, I found myself doing a little internet research on plumbers, which led me to their Yelp reviews. I read all the bad bad with a sinking feeling, and almost canceled my service with them, but since I couldn't get anyone else to come out on such short notice, I decided to chance it and cross my fingers. I'm really glad I did. My technician Alexis showed up on time, and was very professional. He not only did the job, but really went above and beyond. All the communication from the company was great, also. It may be a crap-shoot depending on who you get - but maybe just ask for Alex, because he's GREAT! I felt that the pricing was very fair, and I was extremely relieved to have working drains in such short order! read more

Do not call Roto-Rooter, I called them after comments from Nextdoor.com. In busy time they give false promises and they will never show up. They will cancel you appoint for random reason. Their customer service is terrible, either they will drop your calls or put you on long hold never to show up again. read more

Do not use Roto Rotter! The first guy put the wrong size cap on our plumbing and we did not notice any mold or damage other than what was on our floor and coming up from the shower. We remodel the bathroom and 2 months later our baseboard buckled and we now have mold. We called them again and the second man even told us the other guy put the wrong size cap. Now they are refusing to clean up the damaged area "saying they don't know if the mold was there before", so the company will do clean-up. I called their emergency line late last night in desperate need. I came home from being gone for 2 weeks and my living room ceiling was caving in and my guest bath was flooded. The woman was nice over the phone and told me they were full but could send someone at 9am. I was under the impression a plumber was coming at 9am. Two people showed up closer to 10 and I welcomed them in, they were nice but as it turns out they weren't plumbers. I guess they evaluate the situation?!! They agreed it needed to be taken care of urgently and said they would send a drain specialist immediately. I waited for over 3 hours, then I received a call from a lady who informed me that their team was running late and would call before they came. I called the cell number on the card left to me from the evaluation am crew. He apologized no one came yet said he would do what he could and call me back, I still haven't heard from him. The woman called me a little while ago to let me know that someone was headed in my direction and I canceled it. I already had found another company who actually came within the hour of calling them, Fast Plumbing. Fast Plumbing took care of the leak in 20 minutes and gave me great referrals for my next steps. I could have had this fixed in the am, instead I have more damage from waiting hours for roto rooter and will be dealing with hvac and cleaning crew into the PM hours. All I needed was a plumber not a drain specialist, and someone who knew what they were doing. I highly recommend not calling this company for anything!! read more

I called to get a free estimate thinking I would schedule the plumber to come out in the next couple days. Much to my surprise, the lady I spoke with said she could have someone out within the hour! She even put in my request to have the plumber call on arrival since I was only a minute away from the property. I was thinking lots of positive things at this point. Roto rooter likes to have some poor dispatcher call every few hours to update you to let you know that the plumber hasn't quite made it in your direction yet. This is okay if you like a few phone calls a day for no real reason other than to remind you they haven't gotten to you yet. The best part about all of this is that TWO WHOLE DAYS LATER, the dispatcher calls to tell me he's 30min away. I waited all day long for two whole days waiting for someone to come out. What the hell kind of customer service is this???? Don't tell me within the hour and then be ready to roll 48 hours later. Needless to say, I told her waiting 2 whole days for a quote and then being 30min away when I've finally gotten home for the day across town was the last straw and I wouldn't be doing business with them at all. I need to give a shout out to LENNY RIVIERA. He came to our house after the outside faucet got ripped out and the copper pipe twisted. I usually don't like having repair individuals in my house because I never know if I'm being ripped off or if the repair individual is doing a thorough job, but with Lenny R that was not the case! He is absolutely great. He was knowledgeable, professional, efficient, clean and very friendly. He made us feel confident about what had happened, how he was going to fix it, the time line and cost. You guys have a fantastic employee with him. As far as Roto Rooter in general, I'm satisfied with my experience. They were fast to answer the phone, friendly and reasonably priced. We had water coming out of the pipe and we had called another company first who said we weren't a priority and they could get us in two days later, with Roto Rooter we were flagged as urgent and they definitely seemed to act with a sense of urgency about our situation which I really appreciated. read more

I called Roto-Rooter to fix a problem where sewage was backing up into my house. The General Manger was at my house in less than an hour. The water restoration team came soon after that. They group to clear the blockage came, but the blockage was too difficult to clear. They brought in another piece of equipment that finally fixed the problem. All of this took place after normal working hours. I can't comment on how competitive their cost was, as it is difficult to get bids in this case.. But, I can say that they were extremely polite and fixed the problem. Overall, the made a negative problem much better. I will use them again, if needed. read more

We called today for a water heater repair and given a window from 12-4pm. Running late...it is 8:50pm and still no service. Very disappointed as we have no hot water, wasted 4 hours of a family members time who was helping me and my hubby out since we had to work. I'm giving 2 stars since they called my husband to tell him they were behind, but don't overbook and give out unrealistic window times. We have used Roto Rooter for years as our problems generally need a really quick response during a weekend. Mario (2967) came out on a Sunday morning and cleaned the bathroom sink tied to our A/C line. Apparently the A/C line introduces all sorts of crud into the pipe, which causes it to clog over time. The work was fast and the drain is clear once again. Overall, we have been happy with Roto Rooter and Mario was no exception to the service we have come to expect. read more

The first technician arrived and claimed they did not have a camera to finish the job so we were scheduled for the following Monday and promised someone would arrive. Monday went by...Tuesday almost finished but after I called and yelled over the phone someone decided to show up at 6:30 only to conclude we owed $160 on top of the $270 we already paid. This is the most unethical company I have ever seen. They advertise 24 hour service. They advertise same day service. They advertise emergency service. They failed miserably on their advertisements. First of all, I should have known better than to contact them because of a previous encounter I had in which I was given a quote that was over blown for a leak repair (in my opinion). However, being that I turned on the faucet to my bathtub and couldn't shut it off after the tub was full, I consider that an emergency. I called to report the issue stating that it was an emergency because my water was running at full blast. I was told that my service request would be passed over to dispatch and they would be in touch soon. Well, an hour and a half passed (water running) and no phone call or update. So I called to inquire if I could get an eta on the plumber arrival. I was passed over to dispatch where a smug little creep told me "all of our plumbers are busy on other jobs, when one becomes available they will call you!" (Sometimes it not what you say, it's how you say it and he was RUDE). I said so you can't give me any time frame, because as I said, my water is running full blast and I'm wasting a lot of water. I was dismissed. After another hour passed, and I called again to ask if there was any advice they could offer to at least stop the water or tell me how to turn it off, or if there was an actual emergency line that I could call. I was dismissed again. At this point, I'm in Walmart trying to find the right tools to remove my faucet. I received a call from the plumber. Guess what he said?! I will not be able to come out this evening, I can 'possibly' come in the morning. I'm shaking with anger and anxiety at this point, I said "DON'T BOTHER, my water bill will be a thousand dollars by then!!" I called the main line again to ask is it common practice to falsely advertise emergency services, same day service and rude dispatch people? I asked to speak with someone that could explain why I was dismissed. Was it because I called too much, that I ticked off the dispatch guy with the bad attitude, or that I didn't accept the rip off quote from a couple of months before? She, of course, was unable to answer those questions and I truly didn't expect her to. She had no control over dispatch or the plumber. End result, in tears, I turn to Google to see if I could find another emergency 24 hour plumber. I found one (I will do a review for the good service I received). The scheduling person was also the dispatch person. I received a call back within 20 minutes from the plumber. The plumber instructed me on how to go outside and turn off the water (hey, I don't know this stuff folks). Also how to turn off the hot water heater because the water continued to run. Just like that, the water stopped and now I can schedule a plumber on my time. Of course I am going to use the second service. I'm expecting a call from someone in "management" from Roto-Rooter today. I won't hold my breath, but I will not stop until this issue is addressed. Especially since so much valuable water was wasted. Being a widow sucks sometimes, but at least I learned something from this experience. I can shut the water off like a pro. After the first service call the same problem reoccured after 12 hours. The second service call informed that the first had made such a mess that the water heater was unsafe to use and my family was risk. I asked if it was normal procedure to endanger people and the plumber replied," Nope , bad for business ". Then he refused to fix it because they would have to go buy more parts which they would have to charge me for... i said I had already paid and they said well... then we won't get paid because you already paid the first guy. I said," I thought you guys all worked for the same company ". " Take it up with management ". I had to call the manager ( Victor ) 4 times and he repeatedly had no idea what was going on. When I asked if he could get the parts today he said he would have to order them because you just couldn't buy the parts at any Home depot . I pointed out that the first tech had purchased the parts at Lowes. I also pointed out that it was a Whirlpool hot water heater and Lowes carried all the replacement parts. Victor realized he was just lying to cover his employees mistakes. Finally he called me and said he could refund my money. I asked how long. When he said it might take a week. WORST PLUMBING SERVICE EVER. OK 2 days without hot water isn't a horrible hardship but these guys really are terrible. I still have to find a decent plumber, so if anyone has suggestions. read more

At 2:40 pm they call me to tell me they can't send anyone today it has to be Monday Morning. Which of course doesn't work for me as I work, and if they had told me that 8 am when I called I would have been able to make an appointment with someone else. I said these exact words, 'This is my first time using Roto-Rooter, and I would have thought your company would have kept it's word.' I heard a click liked they tried to hang up, but I could still hear them on the line. I said 'Hello?' Then they really hung up. The shut off knob behind the toilet would not shut completely and our main water line would not shut either! The Plumber they sent came in about an hour and had the water finally off in minutes. How can you give a company a review when they haven't done any work? Well, you can discover a leaking pipe spilling water onto the floor and call them. You then call them on a Friday afternoon and they tell you that someone will be there within two hours, but will call you before heading there. After 1.5 hours, I called to get an ETA and I was told they will be there soon. After two plus hours, I once again called. They had NO idea and told me dispatch would have to call me later. I wait. And wait. And wait. "Dispatch" finally calls. Guess what? He tells me they actually don't have anyone to send, because their plumber is sick. Now, it is after 5pm on a holiday weekend and I had to pay after hours rate to get a plumber there at night. But wait, there's more! I was so put out with them that I called back pretending to have an issue that I needed and they told me that they had someone to send. It's 10:10 PM and the plumber just left. I made the first call at 3:56 PM and was told someone would be at my house "within the hour." Guess I should have asked her to specify exactly WHICH "hour"... I'd been needing my master bath's tank parts and main water valve replaced for a couple months, as well as a leaky outside faucet. No rush to fix either, as I have another bathroom to use and was making the most of the outside faucet leak by keeping a hose connected and collecting the water for plants and the bird bath. However, last night, my broken toilet became possessed and without any warning whatsoever, began shooting out water, much like Linda Blair's pea green soup fountain. The top piece of the valve had broken off and I had a nice little flood to clean up. Good thing it happened while I was home to take care of it immediately. Consequently, I thought it would be best to not leave the house again until I got it fixed. I emailed and called a recommended local plumber who was supposed to be available from 9 AM 'til noon on Saturdays. After I didn't hear a peep from them, I had to find someone else. At 5:19 PM, I received a call from dispatch, saying "the tech is on another job and we will call you again when he is on the way." There's only one tech available in all of Austin? Really? I called them at 7:30 PM and they seemed genuinely concerned that no one had arrived yet. I was put on hold and then told that the tech was replacing a main sewer line and that he was the only one available in my area. I was put on hold again while she called "the manager," and was then told the next available tech nearby would be dispatched to my house, and I would receive a 15% discount for having to wait so long. At 8:08 PM, I received a call that the tech was on his way, and to allow him 20-30 minutes to arrive. He showed up about 35 minutes later - fixed everything - did a great job and was a super nice guy. He was frustrated about the Baltimore call center giving customers false arrival times, and with them being unfamiliar with the Austin area, that San Marcos and Austin are not "that" close (i.e., just down the street). I have no problem with being told there is a 4-hour window (Time Warner, Home Depot, etc.). But if "within the hour" turns out to be nearly 5 hours later, I'm going to be understandably annoyed. Called them an made an appointment 5 days in advance; I got one from 10 to 12 December 14, 2012 to fix a disposal and unclogged the sink. They called me saying they we are waiting for the plumber to finish some work and to make sure that I stayed by the phone. They called me again at 2 pm and said someone will come over for sure on later; to wait for a call. Well, I walked around the house with the phone in my pocket and no one ever showed up. No one called me even to reschedule or apologize.. All day wasted like my time was not important them. Do not call Roto Rooter; their service is terrible; they make random appointment when they know they are booked and besides they seem to have only one plumber in my area from what I can see. In a matter of minutes, we had water all over our bathroom and bedroom. Roto-Rooter (Jacoy Barber & Mark Torres) came out that day (Sunday), talked to our insurance company and performed the work needed to mitigate the problem. They came back daily to check on the equipment and progress and after everything had dried up, they removed their equipment and their job was done. They were very professional and courteous and accommodating to our schedules. The only complaint I have is when the plumber came out (the first step of the process). I feel like he was "killing time" and the final bill seemed a bit high. read more

This is a review for the Water Restoration department only. Last night at around midnight, I discovered a leak under my kitchen sink. The leak was so bad that it completely destroyed the bottom board of my cabinet (even to the point that it snapped and buckled away from the back wall). I called Roto-Rooter immediately, and Mark Torres, the technician, came out this afternoon (less than 24 hours after I called). Before doing anything, Mark told me I should call my home insurance. The damage was so bad that we were talking about having to remove the granite (praying that it doesn't crack) and then remove and replace the whole cabinet. Not comfortable with that idea, I asked Mark if he would be able to just remove the bottom board, treat the mold, and then recommend a contractor to replace the bottom. He immediately contacted his supervisor, Mark Cramer, who approved the plan. Mark Torres, the technician, called his partner, Jacoy, and they got to work. They removed the board, treated the mold, and left my kitchen spotless in no time flat. Mark Torres even went as far as to call the contractor for me and get him to agree to come out today so that my kitchen will be functional again! We are waiting on the contractor now. We are still waiting on our Roto-Rooter plumber to come fix the leak (we shut off the water ourselves). Normally, I might mind the long wait, but the dispatch office has called twice to check-in and keep us posted on the progress of their on-call plumbers. I'm so grateful for their service that I don't mind having to wait a bit (they are having a very busy day). Mark Torres is an incredible water restoration technician. You can tell he really cares about his job and his clients. When our insurance suggested a fix that would run thousands of dollars and result in mismatched granite in my kitchen, Mark helped us come up with the creative solution and got it approved by his boss. Mark was upfront and clear about the price before starting the work, which I super appreciated. The whole thing cost us a whole $50! Not too shabby when we were looked at 5-10 times that amount! I highly recommend Roto-Rooter Water Restoration, especially Mark Torres and Jacoy. I'm hoping my review of the plumbing department will be equally as stellar! read more

Review updated to reflect the measures Roto Rooter has taken to make our situation right. I was promptly contacted by customer service and a manager after they saw my Yelp review. They offered to install replacement flooring in our flooded closet at no cost to us, which is really going above and beyond. We really appreciate them reaching out and doing the right thing. Hopefully we won't have any issues in the future, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them again as long as we're all on the same page about the scope of repairs ahead of time. read more

They come on the weekends and are quick, reliable, and polite. They are also good at communicating. However they will charge you well over a hundred dollars even if the fix is a simple button push. In my experience they do not try do get to the root cause of a problem. It's mostly about quick money for them. They definitely will not try to save you money. read more

What a waste of money. They came out to unclog our drain and informed us we had roots in there. They ran a camera and gave us a bid of $4500. We asked them to run the auger through again to help cut up the roots and they did ... or so we thought. To be honest they poked a few holes and told us that we needed to fix the broken pipe. We were able to fix the hole ourselves and thought we were in the clear. Ummmm not so much. It kept clogging back up into our shower/tubs. But before those episodes really started - the nice (he really was nice young kid) Roto-Rooter guy conveniently stopped by to check in on how things were going. This raised a red flag for us and sure enough, by coincidence, it started backing up again the next day more noticeably. So, we hired another plumber to run the snake through but before he did so, he ran a camera. What did we discover? Most of the roots still intact in the pipe that Roto-Rooter charged us nearly $300 to clear!! They totally ripped us off and just wanted us to sign on with the $4500 bid they gave us and had no intention of actually clearing the line. I will never, EVER, hire them again and suggest everyone steer clear. read more

This is the second time I've used Roto-Rooter in San Marcos, Texas. The first was for a collapsed sewer pipe that happened on New Year's Eve. (Ugh!) And the next time (recently) was for a broken outdoor spigot. Both times they were super responsive, there within a couple hours, and did the job efficiently and well. On NYE it required trenching a ditch in cold rain. They were awesome. Nothing but a positive experience here. read more

Well, I'm glad I didn't check out their reviews before giving them a call, otherwise I may not have - but I'm glad I did. I had an issue with the angle valves underneath my kitchen sink and water was getting everywhere. I called RotoRooter and they sent out GLENN, a god amongst men. His skill, expertise and "bedside manner" put me at ease right away and he got the job done in a fair amount of time. I called RR on Dec 31 for a clogged main line and had trouble getting a local guy to come to my house. I didn't want to go through Jan 1 with clogged everything nor pay a holiday rate to have someone come out to my house. The RR dispatcher said that price couldn't be given over the phone because the plumber hadn't seen the problem yet even though I knew what needed to be done. I learned from the plumber who arrived in a couple of hours that they work by the job and not the trip or hourly rate. Sounds like the way to go. He was diligent and didn't rush to leave while snaking the drain several times and diagnosing a longer term issue with the pipes related to original construction. He was polite and thorough even though it was pretty cold outside. The cost was a little higher than anticipated but he said that he would come back within 6 months if the problem reoccurred. I thought that was a good insurance policy as I've had this problem happen 3 times in the last year+. So, RR's strength is the 24/7 availability and ask for some type of warranty. There is also a coupon on their website for some $ off some services. read more

I believe I paid far too much for the service I received from Roto Rooter. They charged 248.00 to cut and cap off two 3/4 inch water lines that took the plumber about 10 minutes. It's no wonder they make such a big deal out of no trip charge and no service fee. They really stick it to you on the repair rates. Even though they say if you don't agree with the price they will just leave and not charge you anything I guess they think you must have another day or two to wait for another plumber. I wish there was a way to leave no Stars. Do not call these people. I started calling them Friday night about issues we were having, we had 2 different issues. They told us they would be there in an hour, never showed. We called back and they said they would come in the morning. We started calling at 8 am Saturday morning.
