As per usual, the inventory in these discount stores is ever-changing - walk in one day, find certain items, come back the next and those items will be gone and there'll be new ones in their place. The ever-changing inventory and set-up are similar to those of TJ Maxx and Burlington. However, I find Ross probably to be the least extravagant of the 3. This store tends to be messier, has longer lines, the quality of clothing is a little less acceptable, bathrooms are often locked [which is annoying], and sometimes there is an unpleasant smell inside. With that being said, if you take the time to look through the racks of clothing, you're sure to find something exceptional, and at a reduced price! I used to go here all the time for socks. I could get 5 3-packs for under $30. And the brand was Under Armour. This store can get crowded relatively fast, so come early in the morning. That's when I've noticed there are only handfuls of customers in the store. Service is excellent. I've returned clothes here before that just didn't work for me without hassle or interrogations. And the good news is that they'll accept a return even if you bought it from a Ross in a different city. Hold on to your receipt, please. read more

Walked in for last minute shopping the smell of b.o was overwhelming in this Ross. Can't beat a good deal but man can I beat the smell I mean seriously I wanted to throw up. If I could give a zero stars, I definitely would. I do not recommend this location at all. It is a pigs pen,so filthy. everything is everywhere. Nothing is organized and they do not have any types of disinfectant wipes, and or gels for those of us that feel the need to use them, whether it be on the shopping carts or our own person during and after shopping. The inside of the place is truly indicative of its management team. You might walk out with an infection or an illness of some sort. Now, for my personal experience, I walked into the Chico California Ross location for the very first time yesterday I requested disinfectant wipes, so I can clean off the handles of the filthy shopping basket to no avail . I was told they did not have any. I wasn't shopping for anything in particular. I just happen to see it and decided to come in and see what I might find. I found four items and I went to get in line to only one cashier, open management and security person standing guard at the front doors, while other employees walked around casually Throughout. Meanwhile, the long line continued to grow so I decided to go to self check that was completely free a woman assisted me with taking the magnetic clips off of a particular item, and I proceeded to ring up my purchases and pay for them to my right was a second security person, keeping a close watch of my transaction(clearly making sure that I wasn't stealing anything) this made me feel very uncomfortable as I felt stereotyped and discriminated upon by the obvious. I paid for my items, put my receipt in my purse, and as I stepped away to walk out, the gentleman stopped me at my path and asked to see my receipt. He made the comment and said," I saw you ringing up so I know you didn't steal anything but I have to look at your receipt." I pulled the receipt out of my purse, noticing that he leaned his head over so as to get a good look inside my small purse. due to my innocence that really bothered me. So I brought it to his attention after he looked at my receipt and then asked me to open my shopping bag so that he can go through the things that I had just purchased.. I was extremely offended and disrespected. My attire and person does not give off any sense of negativity against myself being that I am a very proper person with my personal care and so that leads me to know that I was discriminated upon for no reason at all. When the section security guard requested to search my shopping bag, I asked him to call his manage, Maria steps up and confirms with him with regards to searching my bag. I brought to her attention that he had no business prying into my personal possessions inside my purse, and that he had specifically witnessed me ringing each item up, as well as verified it with a paid receipt. There was no need for the nonsense. I got back in line and returned all of the items back to the store. I will not ever shop at any Ross stores as they should be boycott specifically the Chico location they have such an incompetent manager. I was told by my returns cashier that the managers name is Maria. Maria shows no sign of management potential to include her personal self and attire, personality and people skills. This store is highly prejudicial and extremely discriminatory. I would not recommend the store to anyone and highly advise you stay out of it. It is absolutely nasty inside. I will be contacting corporate office regarding my horrible and embarrassing shopping experience at this location. read more

The store is so much cleaner and organized than in the 90s! Tonight, in the Chico Ross, the gal working at the fitting room, Mirna, was leaving for her break just as I got to the fitting room and I was going to have to wait 30 minutes to try on my cloths. Bless her heart, she postponed her break just to let me try on my cloths so I didn't have to come back. I felt so blessed tonight because of her. read more

ZERO STARS!!, I Returned 2 clothing items, 1@12.99 & 1@ 11.99 when I Purchased them I was told 30 days return was full refund, after that store credit. I went to exchange for other items, I was advised that "since I purchased them, they had dropped the price to .49 cents each". I have never seen anything in the store for .49cents. Although the manager stated that after I purchased the clothing they dropped the price. So, since I did not have a receipt, they wanted to give me an insulting .49 cents each. BEWARE OF THIS STORE!!! This branch of Ross in Chico, ca. is horrible in all aspects. A very sad excuse for a store. I speak as a former employee. I am not from this country. Although I am an American citizen, I still carry the accent. That was enough for being bullied and prejudiced against by employees and supervisors . Every single day of those endless 2 months felt like being in a Nazi concentration camp. I was 56 and got yelled by people that were young enough to be my kids. Clearly racists. No respect for human beings. The management forced me to follow shoppers everywhere to check is they were trying to steal. No sense of professionalism at all. Very embarrassing ! I asked an employee where to find jeans for women and he seemed confused (he was standing at the front of the store looking more like a grumpy guard than a greeter). He finally answered, 'umm.. in the middle of the store'. The jeans selection was horrible, but I found some other things. Then went to the dressing room to be met by a grumpy girl with long brown hair, scowling at me, she said, "Put your things on the rack", for her to count and pat down. I went into the room. Came back out and handed her the items I didn't want. She said, "Put them back on the rack" with RBF. Because I guess it's asking too much to hand items to a sales associate there or to say please. I asked to speak to a manager and he it was massively obvious he could care less. I'll never go back there again. read more

I've shopped here for years. This store has really gone downhill. It's even worse now with COVID going on. There are clothes all over the floor. Two people checking. Finally they send two more up. They want social distancing, but force people to wait in line for a while. They monitor their bathrooms supposedly due to COVID. I asked to use the restroom and when told I would have to wait for two people ahead of me, I simply said no thanks (as I really needed to leave and go somewhere). The man was rude to me. As we waited in line for a while, I got desperate and asked the guy at the security for help, as I didn't want to ask Mr. Rude Guy. The security guy was really nice and he offered to call someone for me. After waiting a while at the back of the store, a young lady came up to the door and said she needed to first check the bathroom to make sure someone else wasn't in there. I stood there and after she looked at me like I was stupid, I realized she wanted me to move (I guess 6 ft?). She could have simply said this, as the 6 ft rule wasn't being followed anywhere else in the store either by customers or employees. The lady came back and said okay and let me in. Apparently her inspection allowed her to determine no one else was in the store, however it did not allow her to determine the bathroom was filthy and in great need of a good cleaning and sanitizing. Seriously, I haven't seen it dirty like this before. They are picky about how many use the bathroom at one time, but can't keep them clean. Businesses are using the COVID thing to discourage people from using their bathrooms. They are going to end up loosing what little business they have. This location made me feel a tad claustrophobic. Everything was crammed in a very small area, and it seemed like they were packed to the maximum with items. They had some cute home decor, but it seemed pretty neat up (cracks, scratches, missing pieces, etc.) Basically anything you were searching for at Ross, you could probably find at a TJ Maxx in much better condition. read more

I love shopping at Ross for great deals, that is if I can find the deals! This store crams everything on their racks so tight that you can't even look at the clothes! It's very frustrating when your looking for clothes and you can't even get the hanger off the rack because it's so dam tight! I don't see how they expect to sell their clothes if you can't even access their racks! The bras are ALWAYS in the wrong size sections everytime I go there, what's the point of having certain size racks if their not going to maintain them? I always have to look thru everything on the bra racks just to find my size because they are NEVER in the right size section. The shoes are always in disarray! They are always all over the floor and it always looks bad. The children racks in the back are always a mess! There is stuff thrown everywhere back there! No one seams to care to clean it up and make it look nice. I get that this is a discount store but they can do better then that. The store is always a mess! It's also hot in there, when your trying to try on clothes your so busy sweating to death you can't even find anything you want because it's too dam hot in there! The girls up front never say thank you, I give them my money and I always tell them thank you but I never get a thank you back, very rude! They could defiantly work on customer service. Ross in general is a VERY hit-and-miss store. This one is no exception. It is still a great place to find basic items for a steal. I love to shop there for boys' clothes, because I can keep them in the name brands they love for about half you'd pay elsewhere. Overall this Ross definitely employs some racist people. The first time my boyfriend and I went to this store we didn't find a frame for a gift I was looking for that I intended to give to my sister because they have a very small awful selection. Chico is small so they are one of the only games in town so I always try to give them a shot. After we didn't find anything we decided to leave... Seems rational right? Me and my bf received the most awkward treatment from the employees and security before leaving and we got the vibe they thought we were stealing or something b/c we didn't purchase anything. Again, today, I was in need of a frame for a Mother's Day gift so I gave them a shot once again being hopeful.... I'm sort of a shopaholic when it comes to beauty products so I start looking in that section before leaving. As soon as we get to the beauty section, an employee and security come over to that section to "tidy up" but they were CLEARLY watching us once again. Newsflash!!!!!! All Black people don't steal so you shouldn't follow every Black customer around the store or be overly pre cautious toward Black customers, that's racist behavior, you're offending and losing customers. Just your typical Ross store, nothing special. It's extremely cluttered and overflowing with merchandise, just like every other Ross store I've been to, but if you dig in and spend a lot of time searching you'll find something good for a decent price. They have Michael Kors bags and watches sometimes which is awesome, cause they sell them at an extremely discounted price. Their houseware section is decent too, you can find decorative items and household essentials for cheap but not the best quality. Gave this store another chance....the girl didn't put any items in a bag, I had to ask. Before I even paid the girl was saying she could help the next customer. Drove an hour home just to see that the security tag was still on the clothes. I called and was told to bring item back and they would take it off. I ask who was paying my gas, it was an hours drive.
