I tried to buy my friend a gift for her 18th birthday, I go in this store for the first time and I buy a pair of pants that I thought might be cute, however I knew if they did not fit her I would return them as the pants would not fit me and they were $70 that was supposed to go toward her. I informed the workers who I was looking for and that it was a gift, not once did anybody bring up a "return policy" however I ended up seeing it on the receipt the day I went to return them 6 days later(which is within the 14 day return policy.) I walk in the store and talk to the man at the counter and explain that the pants don't fit and I would like a refund. I had my receipt, tags on the pants, and aside from when I finally gifted the pants to her and she tried them on, they have only been in a clean bag that I had also bought that day. The man seemed as if he would give me a refund as well but then says they smell of cigarettes, which they absolutely do not, but even if so I explained that if we can't wash them them that is not our fault whatsoever. But like I said we do not smoke and the pants have been in a smoke free car ever since we found out they didn't fit. The man sends me out the store and leaves me confused because whatever he is smelling neither I nor my friend can smell, because they are brand new and again we do not smoke, nor should someone be expected to alter how the environment they are in smells to accommodate a pair of pants that we aren't even sure will fit. I called the store multiple times with being sent to voicemail Everytime, and eventually resulted to e-mailing the business, I approach the situation as detailed and respectful as I can and it has been several days with no reply. Makes me think they are purposefully avoiding my email so they can tell me it is past the 14 day return policy. It makes me feel like they are just finding any ways to keep money even if it means bad business, it shows greed, unprofessionalism, lack of communication, lack of accountability, and it did not do anything but take my money and leave me with pants that will not fit anybody. I wouldnt even be making this review if they would have answered my email trying to find a middle ground or some form of understanding, even if they respectfully declined my request to return and explained exactly why would be better than being completely ignored. I've debated going back into the store, however the only reason I would even go back at this point is to say this which I have said to you guys about 3 times now all in different forms of communication. You cannot say I have not tried or have not been respectful about this situation and you choose to "reply" with silence. I would not bring my business back here ever, which is sad to say because I really do like the female employees there, all very accommodating and welcoming, the man at the front and whoever is in charge of answering emails is who I am directing this message to as those are the only 2 factors of this store that have absolutely repelled me to spend money at the establishment again. I have been more than understanding, more than patient, giving u multiple days in between reaching out to get back to me, but it is very clear how this business operates based off how I have been treated. The man working the register was not at all friendly. The sales girl was very helpful. I had to return 2 items and again deal with the unfriendly man. If he could just smile and say thank you - that would go a long way! The store has great advertising and marketing and some nice clothing selections, but no returns - only store credit. In these days of automation the one thing you expect when shopping in person at a store is friendly personal. They need to train workers to be friendly. (Maybe he is an owner - I don't know)! I am really disappointed to write this review, and even more disappointed in this establishment. I do my best to shop small, but in this case, I will never give them my business again and I encourage all who read this to follow suit. My mom purchased my sister and I some items for Christmas on December 21. The first bracelet she gave me was not comfortable so she exchanged it on December 28 for a wrap bracelet that was defective and did not fit an average size female wrist. We went to the store in early January to exchange it and they were closed due to Covid. I sent them a text message on January 14 because they don't answer their phone and the voice message states to text them. I let them know about the defective bracelet and that we attempted to come in but that the shop was closed. I went on to explain that we have Covid and asked if I could come in a few weeks to exchange it. No reply. So I texted again the following day. On January 25, someone finally responded stating that we needed to come in to address the issue. Fine with me- I'll be in once we are no longer dealing with Covid because that's what you do in a pandemic, right? Fast forward to today, February 12. I explained the situation and the store owner found the transaction on their computer. The item I wanted to return was still stocked in the store, unused, and had tags attached. The owner twisted herself into a pretzel to explain "her side", which was: the original purchase was so long ago and had been bought with store credit so they couldn't do anything. She stated they extended their return policy because of their covid closure, however, because of our covid situation and quarantine, I was unable to come in. Which is why I texted them in the first place! Later in the day, my mom even tried to exchange the bracelet since she was the one who spent 100's of dollars there over Christmas and was extremely frustrated with their response. She was unfortunately treated by the owner with the same stubborn and rude demeanor. As a small business owner myself, I know how important it is to treat your customers with fairness, respect and understanding. Especially in unprecedented times, extending a return policy for an unused and defective item is how you keep customers and keep a good name for yourself in a very small community. As our exchange ended, I let the owner know to keep an eye out for an online review from me. So here it is, and I hope this is worth the $40 to you. read more

I went in to get a dress for my bridal shower and I tried on a beautiful dress but when I tried it on I walked out from the dressing room and said out loud to my step mom, "I don't like this dress on me because I have a small upper half body and my hips are really large" and I turn around and go into the dressing room... Anika says extremely loud "yeah know small boobs and big hips are in style but it sounds like you have some self confidence issues". Being a store owner you should be ashamed of yourself to drag a girl down like that. You think that makes people want to come in and shop there? Me and my daughter have been looking in Sacramento all week for her senior prom, finally decided to try Chico Anika Burke was the first place we tried and it was Amazing!!! They had a great selection of dresses quite a few to choose from! The lady stayed with me and my daughter the whole time was so knowledgeable she spent over a hour with us at the end I found out she was the owner and was amazed that she took all that time to help us she was so sweet. We ended up finding "The One" and my daughter is so happy! We decided on a different color than they had in the store so the owner helped me order online. awful and mortifying experience. This place is SUPER HOMOPHOBIC. I went in there with one of my freinds and she asked if she could help me zip up my dress in the dressing room. The sales girl said it was okay, and we were trying to get me zipped up when the guy at the register told us that we would need to leave if we were changing together. i was mortified and left without buying anything because it was a horribly embarrassing experience considering that I was in a very compromising position. read more

Nice store, nice employees unless you get the owner. My girlfriend and I went to buy prom dresses. We weren't allowed to try on dresses that the owner determined weren't right for us. Instead we were told we had to try on dresses that we didn't even like. She was so intrusive. At one point she weighed in on our conversation telling us about her similar experience from high school. We lowered our voices and she reprimanded us saying it was rude to whisper. I found her to be extremely rude. We just happened to come in this store to get away from the pouring rain after taking a tour of Chico State for my high school senior daughter. We strolled to the back and noticed prom dresses and I asked my daughter to try in a couple since her prom is up and coming. Unbeknownst to me we had the best customer service ever. To start, I think the store's offerings are good and the staff has always been helpful and friendly when I shop here. My issue concerns their return policy. My wife bought me a shirt here, but it was too large. I brought it in to simply swap it out with a smaller size. Instead, I had to pay an additional $10 to get the new shirt. Same shirt, different size, $10 extra. The shirt I turned in had not been worn and still had the tags. All they had to do was exchange it. Unfortunately, they lost a couple customers. read more

I was excited to see this shop because it has cute clothes, however, they were very bad quality. The clothes were a bit overpriced but they looked nice so I bought a good amount. Unfortunately, after wearing a romper that I bought, only twice, the material started to bead and pull apart. Along with that, the strings were fraying everywhere. I washed it on hand wash, alone, with cold water and I did not dry it, which was supposedly okay. Unfortunately, it made the romper look much worse! I was so disappointed with the quality of this outfit. I went to return it and they only have a 7-day return policy, I had gotten it about 14 days prior so I was willing to take store credit but that was also denied. We asked for a phone call from the manager and he just said that since it had been washed there was nothing he could do. Having such a bad return policy shows lack of quality in the product. I will not be shopping here again. In short, bad quality and bad customer service, I would not recommend this shop unless you only plan to wear the outfit one time. read more

Unfortunately I have to rate this 1 star. Our experience started out good, after my daughter tried on several dresses she found the one!! As we received the information to order and we're paying we were told we couldn't buy it after all because they had already sold it to another girl at the same school. My daughter was crushed! Several times during trying the dress on she was told that "many girls tried it on, but it never fit anyone" We walked outside to decide what we were going to do next and then decided to come back in and try on a couple more dresses like they told us to. Well when we went back in the owner tells us we're going to have to wait another 30 minutes for a dressing room because now they were all full and to not pull any dresses ourselves. Basically it felt as if she accused us of making them make the mistake in the first place. Very sad that we try to shop at a smaller business in downtown Chico and we have to walk away feeling like we did something wrong. Very poor customer service!! What about "I'm so sorry that happened and please let us make it right". Well I will go spend our money elsewhere thank you. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! POOR QUALITY! I purchased my daughter a black pencil skirt here on a Saturday (1/16/16). The clerk that day was surprised when she saw it on the rack and commented that someone must have returned it. That should have been a clue. She wore it Thursday. She noticed the seam where the zipper attached was unraveling. I attempted to return/exchange it today. (10 days later) Apparently they have a 7 day return policy. I didn't have the tags because I had no intention of returning it. They emailed me a receipt which didn't seem good enough either. Not only will I never shop here again, I will be telling all the girls we know not to shop here as well as the three girls who referred us to this shop. Went to the website and the store's prom shop was advertised and it looked like a great place to buy my daughter's prom dress. The hours for the store were also listed. We drove over an hour to get to this store on a Monday only to find out that the "prom shop" section of the store had very limited hours that were not listed on the website and was not even open at all on Monday. This review is really about the lousy and extremely inadequate website with inaccurate information rather than the quality of the merchandise. It doesn't take much effort to update a website and list the hours for your store so I wonder if they don't bother to do this what kind of customer service they give when an item is purchased. But I'm giving a two star review instead of one star to give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

I am absolutely appalled with the customer service at this store. Appalled. The employee and manager communication is atrocious, and there are mixed answers about sales. The employees will tell you one price, the cashier will tell you another, then the manager will enforce an entirely different price. Not to mention that the return policy is beyond ridiculous. I completely understand needing the receipt. I can deal with returning it within 7 days. Having the tag still attached is going a bit far, but then after complying with all of those, still not being able to get your money back? I recently bought a pair of leggings there and had to take them back because they were coming apart in the left leg seam. I took them back, within seven days, tag still attached, with the receipt and they refused to take them back because they "were obviously worn". I tried them on. once. Anika and the sales associates are extremely attentive to the needs of each person who walks into the boutique. Her selection of clothes, accessories, and jewelry has only improved over the years. There always seems to be a deal or sale on clothing and/or jewelry. They are all helpful even if you're not quite sure what you're looking for when you arrive.
