Nope. Don't go. As other reviewers have stated, I too am a VERY VERY avid thrifter. I was in town for a while and decided to check this place out. One of the worst thrift stores I've ever been in. 1) It's just kind of grubby and gross. 2) They have TONS of Target deadstock that is insanely overpriced. Like last season shoes that went on clearance for $7 at Target last year and they are trying to charge $15 for them. Tacky. 3) The pricing is WILD and not in a good way. I saw a SUPER cheapy night stand for $89. $89!!!! Some pricing on hard goods was ok. Most was really high for what it was. 4) NO good clothes. My guess is that anyone with any quality items in Chico is donating them elsewhere. This store was mostly 4+ year old Target and WalMart clothes that definitely show their wear and age. Grubby Old Navy shoes and they are asking $7 for them. It was super disappointing. Definitely won't go back. read more

They run some good sales and sometimes you'll find some good deals, but overall my rating is low because the majority of the people who work there are so rude. If you ask them a question about anything, be prepared to feel like a complete annoyance--doesn't matter if you smile and are nice to them, they still treat you poorly. read more

I'm so incredibly bummed about this thrift store. I have lived in Chico for over 10 years and this used to be one of my favorite thrift stores to shop at. I would stop in a couple times a week and it was always so much fun! They got rid of all of their good discounts and have now switched it to the classic rotation system. If something just hit the floor that week, then it's full price, if it has been there for a certain period of time it's 25% off, then if it's there longer, 50% off, and lastly 75% off. How boring. I've stopped in numerous times since the ownership change, and the prices have undoubtedly sky-rocketed. I'm an AVID thrifter, and I love thrifting all over, but it's upsetting to go in here now. Please bring back the old discounts! That's what made this thrift store so much fun. P.S. I've included some pictures of the outrageous furniture prices. Some of the items are broken and/or don't work properly. On one of the pieces, the drawer wouldn't close. P.S.S. You have one of the largest thrift stores in town with the largest inventory. Don't be stingy... you will get things to move more quickly by lowering prices and thus, make more money. I have walked out of there empty handed almost every visit since the ownership change. I bought a microwave here. On the price tag it stated it worked. I got it home and nothing. The lights come on and it makes a funny noise. A worker told me they would not take a refund, but the manager would chew out the employee who tested the microwave. I work outdoors and do not get reception. Apparently I get off at the same time as the manager so I can't go in to talk to him or her. I called and left a message as well as a message. No answer. This place is dysfunctional. I gave them 43 bucks for a piece of trash. I couldn't care less about the employee getting yelled at. What a weird statement to tell a customer. I just want my money back. I frequently buy toys from this thrift store for my kids. They usually have the best deals in town. Now all of a sudden they want to sell broken toys for $30+ dollars. You can buy them brand new for that price! I bought similar Batman toys at this store this month for $2.99 so not sure why all of a sudden there's a price increase. Absolutely absurd. I requested to speak to a manager and the girl in the front to​ld me I couldn't until tomorrow and that the prices were actually very reasonable because she priced them herself. No! If the toys were like new, sure I'll pay the $30+ but not when there are missing pieces, broken pieces and peeling stickers! I litterally googled the items to show her what they were going for on Amazon and Walmart (NEW) and she got super rude with me and said if I didn't like the prices I could shop somewhere else. Wtf! Literally just broke my kids heart that we had to put them all back and leave with nothing. Pictures below to show what they are selling for $30+ each (that they get donated for free!!) I am an avid thrift hunter and know a good thrift store when I see one :). This place is awesome! *They just re-organized the store and it looks great! *Side Note: New dressing rooms! Stuff they have: Clothes/Shoes Tons of Women's jeans (all sorted by size) Dresses out the wazoo (both short/long, casual/fancy) Sweaters, coats, ponchos, vests, long sleeves, tank tops... Men's jeans/pants, shorts, jackets, sweaters, t shirts... Lots of women's shoes (heels,slip ons...) (Not that many men's or kids shoes) Other Crap Electronics section is very small. They do have a lot of cords/keyboards/random cell phone bullshit... The furniture section is limited but they have great chairs and an occasional awesome table. Tips!!!! Go on Thursday. It's half price. Spend $20 on Thursday get any Sunday half price. Watch out for Thursday as it's busy with lots of shoppers + bad parking. Oh and if you like glass wears this place is the best. This place is awesome in so many ways. Great prices (usually, although some stuff I'm like... you trippin...) great selection, lots of sales. However, I've finally gotten fed up with an issue after it is apparent that it's a common problem after shopping regularly for years... the price tags!!! Ughhhh they use super sticky price tags that come apart in tiny strips and leave residue that is extremely difficult to remove and has actually ruined a few things I've purchased. they stick them right onto the front and main parts of items. They also use a stapler to attach tags to clothing and purses which wouldn't be an issue but half the time they staple right through the clothing and not the tag..., whether it's lace, leather, silk, or some other delicate fabric, just BaM!! Staple right through it, leaving little hole marks :/ So, my constructive criticism is to please be mindful about what you are stapling price tags to. And put stickers on the bottoms of items please. I'd be forever grateful :) You guys rock!! read more

At the moment Thrifty Bargain is my favorite store. I just learned a couple of days ago they are doing away with the 50% off Thursdays as of January 2019! NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS!! :( I work hard and that one day a week helps me immensely, with purchasing things that I can not always afford, I always come to thrifty bargain first. With the colored tags being the only sales and by the way i have shopped there with the sale tag just the other day. This is a good place! It's on a busy street and can be difficult to get in & out of at times! It can be a bit messy and unorganized , but they offer daily deals and discounts. Prices are fair! I enjoy finding good bargains and looking through all they have. read more

I have been going to Thrifty Bargain for years. Always great prices up until the last few months. Yes the store is a tad but more organized but the prices now for a "thrift " store are pretty high. A few of my fam&friends no longer shop there. I don't know if they sold the store and whomever owns it now decided to skyrocket the prices. One example...plain long sleeve T.. $8. This place is a dump. It smells and is dirty. The lines on half off Thursday are insane. I'm not sure why anyone would shop here. This falls into the category of a gross thrift store. I used to shop here all of the time. 95% of my clothing etc was purchased from here. Their prices have more than doubled. Used shoes for $25. What???? I was able to get a full bag of clothes for around $16 and now it's more like $35. I only go like once every couple of months instead of my usual weekly retail therapy sesh. read more

I have gotten some quality appliances like a George Foreman grill and coffee grinder, dishware, board games and books for my classroom, and cute clothing here. When I first went to TB, I thought it was a dumpy place and didn't find anything. The trick with TB is to look past the grime to find the "gems" that are hiding within... Once you figure that out and if you have the patience, so will start to love this store like I now do. They have color-coded sale tags and also certain days where the entire store is discounted. You can't beat that! They are always stocked to the brim and seem to have good turnover of their inventory. That makes it fun to come in just to see what is new. They have more electronics than most thrift stores, likely because they take eWaste at their donation center. They have furniture too, but most of it seem pretty beat up. I'm not a fan of this place at all, I've only been here about three times because I was desperate to find a certain item. This place smells baaaaad, like really bad. I went in here once during the rainy season and the stench was multiplied due to the ceiling leaking in various spots. And I noticed whenever I'm here I have to wash my hands or use hand sanitizer asap when I'm done shopping, my hands feel icky after browsing, something I've never had a problem with in other thrift stores. The place is just plain dirty, inside and out. They have a variety of knick knacks and small wall fixtures that isn't too bad, the prices are good too. Furniture is okay, usually had super-outdated couches but to each their own. Lots of electronics stuff. And where are all of those hipsters the other reviewers were talking about? Nothing special about this thrift store, pretty normal in fact. I would say that it might be a little dirtier nowadays, but that might just be my imagination. You definitely can find deals here, you just have to look hard enough. Prices are reasonable, they have colored price tags that reflect daily discounts. Decent selection of older electronics, as well. I don't see many 'hipsters' here these days, I think that honestly popular fashion has moved on and left only those that enjoy the look at the thrift stores. Either that or enough irony is available through other means that they don't come here anymore. Found a lucite purse here for a $1.99. The purses, jewelry, and jackets back in the day rocked my world. Oi, and I miss Rafael! Anyway, this place is huge, and does get a ton of stuff, so it's worth checking out. Last time I stopped by a few years ago I did come away with a couple of cool clothing items for not a lot of cash. I agree with what a previous poster wrote about the furniture (and bikes) -- sometimes waaaay overpriced. But I picked up two Eames style chairs for 20 bucks once. Bought a decent microfiber couch at Thrifty Bargain for $100. Couch had some wear and tear but I was only going to need it for a year so I didn't mind. After moving out of Chico, I tired to bring the couch back in the same condition in which it was bought, and the employee was very rude and said that it was "way too beat up" for them to take. read more

Good for selection bad for price. I have seen dishes and knick knacks there that you could get new for the same price or less at the drug store or Ross. I understand what some of the other reviewers are saying about the "griminess" of the store's appearance/feel (the floors and walls look like they could use some TLC - even if just a little). Also, there's almost always a few unsavory characters hanging out in front and on the side of the store - never had a problem with them though, they're always polite vagrants. With that said, THIS PLACE IS GREAT! By far the best thrift store in Chico. They have great sales throughout the week/month with color-coded tags on their items. The sales range anywhere from 20% to 50% off of the already low prices (clothes, shoes, random goodies). If you know how to shop thrift stores, you won't be disappointed - the store is very large and there's a lot to rummage through. Never had any issues with finding with dirty/ripped clothing or other damaged items. Goodwill and Salvation Army are OK, but this store is definitely better in terms of pricing and selection. i used to live down the street from thrifty bargain. youve got to have some energy to dig through those racks to seperate the ugly 90s shoulder-padded blouses to find the gems. it's really a hit or miss situation. they really like to overprice the furniture (excluding some of the comfortable chairs) ie: falling apart entertainment center ... $60. However, one time, I swear an old lady died and gave her entire shoe collection to thrifty bargain. This is my most favorite place to go atleast once a week. I do hair and my clothes is always getting ruined with color or hair bleach spots. I buy a bunch of shirts there for 1/4 of the cost of department store prices. I even find designer clothes there. Thursday is half off day for the entire store. They have daily discounts also. Great prices, large selection but kind of a dump. Last time I was there they were doing some work on the roof and the interior so maybe that is going to change? Still, its in an old Holiday Market grocery building and it sure looks worn out. Hasn't been updated in decades. I drop in a few times a month to see what they have. Little bit of furniture, some electronics, some books, a good amount of kitchen items and dishes/glassware and TONS of clothes. Probably the largest selection of thrift clothing in Chico. Its not upscale by any means but if you're willing to dig threw the racks you can find some quality stuff at good prices. read more
