But there is no dressing room and there is no return policy on any of the clothes that you buy that might not fit. Prices are just going up. All the dresses are about $10, purses range from $10-$40, and I routinely find things with tags that list the prices they found on EBAY! The eBay tags are usually about 10-20% less than the "sells for on eBay for ____" tag. Items are all also now priced individually, which I think is the main problem. Before you could go in and all the dresses would be $5.99 for example. Now prices are just kind of all over the place, but on the higher end. I think the other issue is that as they're pricing things individually, they're reverse image searching the items that look interesting to price compare with sites like eBay. The people who work here are nice, the music they play is always really good, and the store is really well organized; however Arcs mission is to provide services to a population that's generally on a fixed income. I'm really disappointed to see the prices where they are. read more

This used to be my family's favorite thrift store. Now the prices are absolutely insane. A chicken cookie jar that would've been $15 new? It's now $25. One pair of used shoes that is a decent brand could be $8.99 and another pair that is from Walmart could be $25? I love the mission and what the store supports/stands for, but it is a thrift store. I read the reviews before I went and they were BAD but it was so close to my hotel so I gave it a try! SOOO HAPPY I DID! Great selection, all different sizes n styles! XS to 4XL ! Staff was amazing and so kind n friendly! I was able to get a whole new wardrobe for less than $200!!!! There's something for EVERYONE and they have sale days- just ask, sales and deals are every day except Saturday and they are closed on Sunday!!! A few of the negative reviews, complained of odor and quality of clothing. I did not experience either one of those-no odor in the store, and the clothing was lightly used with some new items too !!!! This used to be the best thrift store in town. Now their prices are ridiculous!! Like competing with goodwill high. Most of their clothes are now "boutique" so like high high. I saw a Walmart top with the tag still on. Msrp on the tag was $8 and arc wanted like 14 for it!! 25 for a pair of used boots, over 16 for a pair of levis that the size tag was cut out of. They're going crazy. also their 50% off clothing sales are no longer. I'm really sad this store did such a huge flip. I enjoy shopping at the ARC store because the employees are so welcoming. I was so impressed when I overheard a young male employee encouraging a mom to go look at something he just put out that he thought would be perfect for one of her children. I bought a table and a very friendly guy carried it out to the car, put it in so it wouldn't move around, and even closed the back of my car which is always a challenge for me. There customer service is excellent. The store is always neat and organized. read more

Spent a long time gathering up a bunch of stuff to take to the art store. Apparently they already have too much good stuff and would only except some of my stuff. Not because it was not sellable or in good working condition but because I simply had too much. They told me that this was all they could except for the day. Then turned around and took donations from two cars behind me after I left. I asked to speak with a manager and the two kids out here said that they were the manager.So they were unable to provide resolution except to go elsewhere. So that's what I'm doing... Going elsewhere. So frustrating when even the people in charge don't know how to handle customers. They let some immature little girl try to be the manager. Or at least she said she was the manager. But did not resolve anything. She told me we cannot take or except broken stuff. But nothing I had was broken in fact she didn't even look to see what else I have, she was just exhausted from the work piling up, apparently. read more

This place is a bit smaller but they seem to be more selective in what they choose to put out. Overall it is really nice and they are related to the ARC center just across the parking lot that works with special needs individuals (I worked there for a couple months last summer doing respite services, they were great and my experience there will not affect my score here) I mostly go to thrift shops for the books (I do go for other stuff too, like kitchenware or just looking around, but about 90% books) and this place is one of my favorite. The prices are pretty good, I think it was $1 paperbacks and $2 hardback. Sometimes they have a deal for buy one get one free on the books...I usually end up getting 4 books for the price of two kinda thing. The book selection is pretty large and good, especially considering the size of the store. The people there are always really nice, and the stuff in the glass case in the corner near the exit often has stuff like old video games and other cool stuff. Also, the "chico quarterly coupon directory" (i've included a picture) which comes to chico residents in the mail, usually has a "$5 off any purchase of $15 or more." So if you think you might spend that much there you might as well throw it in your wallet before you go. read more

The store is wonderful and some staff are very helpful however there are a few bad seeds bringing it down! Sadly bad service and bad attitudes leave a BAD taste in your mouth. Entered the store and a very nice gentleman was more then helpful but by the end two very un- accommodating female staff members almost ruined it for me. Im in shock at the reviews on this place. The Arc IS GREAT. Hands down my favorite thrift store in Chico. The staff is always kind and helpful, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. This past week I got 2 pairs of vans for 3 dollars each, both gently used. Compared to the other thrift stores in town, their clothes are incredibly reasonably priced and the selection is GREAT. Furniture selection is awesome, jewelry section has some great finds as well. 5/5 stars. I don't leave reviews often but when a place is THIS GOOD... you kinda have to. They tend to have a good selection on clothing items for the younger crowd. Seeing that this is a college town, if you are young and looking for something stylish, this is the place to be! Definitely the cleanest thrift store in town, it doesn't even really have "that smell". The isles are easy to navigate and it's all pretty organized. All the stuff they have in here is in pretty good shape, I don't think I've seen any questionable stains on clothing or really damaged housewares here. The prices here really vary. I saw a coffee pot here I had myself for $14-I had bought it new for $12. Furniture and clothing prices are usually reasonable. Their picture frames and art are really cheap! I've never really been able to find "just what I was looking for" while here when I'm on a mission, but I can usually find some other goodies. read more

If you are looking for tired jeans etc. this might be the place for you to go. I, on the other hand, had loaded up my van with four solid oak chairs with upholstered seats hoping that ARC would be able to sell them to college students looking for a bargain. When we parked by the receiving area we were surprised that the usual secondhand furniture was not in the parking lot, only cars and trucks. The woman in charge looked in our van and said, "I can not accept these," "Why" I asked, "they are clean and in good shape." She insisted that she could not accept the chairs. Disappointed, I told her that we had driven from across town. (I didn't tell her that that my 84 year old husband had, with difficulty, taken the seat out of the van in order to accommodate the chairs. When we returned home our neighbors helped us put the seats back into the van, The hurtful thing, is, when we left, it became a joke with ARC employees that they hadn't accepted our family heirlooms. read more

This is a very organized store. I like how they keep the different departments neat and easy to browse. They usually have some nice furniture too, and have furniture deals out in the parking lot. My experience has been that I have not found super great deals on clothing here, but I know that others report differently. It is very convenient to donate here, which is nice. Also, they are helping the community by providing jobs to the developmentally disabled and investing proceeds from the store for their programs. Gotta give them props for that! If at all possible, try to bring your smaller donations in yourself. I had the truck come on two occasions because I had some large furniture items. On both occasions, since the truck was coming, I added a lot of smaller items to be taken as well. Big mistake. Those guys THROW everything! You actually HEAR stuff rattling and/or breaking. They simply do not care. I had carefully cleaned & wrapped items that I handed to them to place in the truck, and both times, they THREW them. Someone should tell the drivers to care more. Believe me, for many of us who downsize and decide to part with items, if the items were worthless trash, we'd throw them in the trash. If we've deemed items worthy of re-sale/good condition, they shouldn't be thrown like trash. Your store ends-up having to throw-out broken stuff that was good, re-sellable stuff to begin with. read more

At some point the prices started creeping up. I'm not sure when, it's still fantastic in comparison to shopping new, but I definitely had to do a lot more decision-making in store rather than buying all the things. Have had great luck with furniture and clothing here (whoever and wherever you are, fat girl with stylish taste in my size, thank you for donating so frequently), and everything is well-organized so it's easy to browse. The dudes in the back accepting donations can sometimes leave a bit to be desired in terms of customer service -- they're either extremely helpful witih carrying items from your car or they'll just stand around watching you. Annoying when it happens, but thankfully it's almost always the former of the two. ARC is definitely worth checking out. Buy things here, donate them back down the road, and buy more. read more

One thing I can't abide is when a business wastes my time. As a retail outlet, if you can't make it easy for people to buy your products, you don't deserve their business. I saw a recently donated item in the pile in front of the shipping area. I asked if I could buy it. They said no, it had to be priced first. I asked if they would price it. They said no, it will be priced when they get around to it. I asked if they knew when that would be. They said by the end of the day. I asked if they would hold the item for me after it was priced. They said no. I asked for a supervisor, they said he wasn't available. Inflexible. So I left. I came back 3 hours later and the pile hadn't moved. I asked the now different staff the same questions and got the same answers. Again, no supervisor. Next, I came back right before closing when the store was empty. The pile had been processed but the item wasn't in the store. I asked if it had been priced. The counter staff couldn't tell me. I asked if they could check in the back. They said no. They have an intercom at the counter but wouldn't use it. I asked if it had been sold. They didn't know. I asked for a supervisor but they weren't there. Finally, I showed up the next day, early. I checked the store, no item. I asked the counter if it had sold. They said they hadn't seen it but would check. They used the intercom (!!!) to call the back and have them check if it was still there. It wasn't. So I missed out. The staff were all polite. No complaints there. They were just unhelpful. It also seems there's never a supervisor on site. At least there wasn't the three times I asked. So, three extra trips and I go home empty handed. I could not convince them to take my money. read more

Have been here many times, there are a lot of shoes generally; a lot of jeans for smaller sizes, and a lot of clothing in women's is geared to the 18yr old crowd. the mens clothing- usually a lot of t shirts. furniture--very limited. jewelry--mostly new. miscellaneous--you can find things that you were probably not looking for. pricing--usually ok, to me, some of the womens clothing is too high. i have found enough miscellaneous there to keep going there, and usually what i buy is not what i was there looking for--so that could be a plus. when they have 50% off in parking lot, u might get lucky. read more

I go to a lot of thrift stores and have been to most of the ones around Chico. ARC store is far more clean and organized than a lot of other popular thrift stores around town. There are a lot of clothes for sale (for both women and men) that are very unique and in quality condition. They also have dressing rooms available (but no locks on them). There's a good selection of furniture, games, linens, shoes, and other bits and bobs. The prices are very reasonable for a thrift store and if you're lucky to find something with an orange tag, you apparently get 50% off. I got a pair of jeans and a shirt for around $5! The staff are incredibly nice and I love that you are donating your money to a good cause. read more

The Arc is a great thrift shop. I have gotten a lot of great deals there, recently got a really nice (expensive) backpack for $5. They always have furniture, books, and nice clothes to choose from. And donating there is quick and easy. The Arc helps support individuals with disabilities and that is the main reason I began shopping there. They are a wonderful organization. read more

Poor service. The policy to not sell something because it does not have a price tag is a terrible policy to have. It's a THRIFT STORE... there is hardly ever anything that can't be sold for a few dollars or less at a thrift store. This is not an upscale vintage boutique with things of great value... so at the very least be agreeable to people wanting to spend money with your store and give at least ONE employee on the floor the ability to name a price when something comes up with out a tag. Don't blame your customers for the mistake of of your employees. This is why I cant shop here any more OR with Salvation Army. It's happened too many times.... I'd rather not be teased by seeing the one thing in the store I want and it has no tag so I can't get it. What's the point of having a store if you won't sell the things in your store? This is my Go-To Thrift shop in town. Well organized (love being able to shop by color) and they take care with what they put out so the merchandise is always clean and in good repair. There is lots of turnover so it is a new store every time I go. Lately they have been doing a very good job at highlighting the higher end items. It saves a lot of time when looking for real "finds", but also means they disappear faster. Not surprised they keep winning Best of Chico. read more

I am a very avid thrift store shopper. The arc store will almost always be on the bottom of my "To go to" list, and I only live down the street from it. The owner or manager-whoever, takes out the things they believe are worth more than most, and price them almost at retail value. They Google almost every donation they get just to make a bigger buck. The employees don't really know anything about thriftiness or The Arc itself. It's a thrift store that likes to act like it isn't a thrift store. It's clean and all, but i'd rather pay 20 dollars less and just deal with a smelly building. read more
