Goodwill, why are you increasing the prices so much? In many stores there are disabled people or people on government benefits that are required to "volunteer" 20 hours or more a week? Why not just pay them? Getting free labor to sell donated items and paying top employees mid to high 6 figures a year? Maybe I just don't get it. This probably won't change. But, something that can and should change is the tape and price stickers that are used on merchandise! They both leave an insane amount of residue that is impossible to fully remove. I recently visited this Goodwill location and was extremely disappointed with their pricing. They upcharge items on their brand list, regardless of their condition. This brand list has continued to grow and encompasses anything of perceived value. It's disheartening to see secondhand items priced so high. Their in-store commercials encourage more physical donations. When I got to the register, I was also asked if I wanted to make a monetary donation "to help the kids down the street". This was insincere and completely vague. I do not need to donate more in order to create further tax deductions for their company. I expect better. This "non-profit" needs to reevaluate its pricing strategy and community claims. Take your secondhand shopping elsewhere. read more

The prices are just not worth the effort anymore. Everything is inflated and price gouged. Dresses increased from $6.99 and are now $9.99. Skirts were $3.99 and are now $6.99. I routinely find basic items like shirts for $12-14.99. The home goods section is also overpriced, just today I found a single teacup priced at $6.99. Often they are not consistently cheaper than buying new, and even when they are, the price does not match the work that goes into finding things in the store, or the quality of the items. I feel SO badly for the poor staff working there who are being subjected to upset customers daily because of corporate's poor choices. Seeing the items go for this price also deters me from donating to goodwill. read more

The store has tons of products to browse through, there constantly rotating merchandise so you never know what you'll find the following day. As for the employees there are awesome employees that always have a positive attitude and help out whenever possible, like Scott. Then there a few employees who make you feel very uncomfortable now I won't name anyone for privacy reasons. The only reason I mentioned Scott is because he is an outstanding employee with a good sense of humor, I tell you what get a few more employees like him, and you'll have happy customers. On a side note prices here are a hit and miss some are straight out ludicrous and some are cheap cheap, but for the most part there clothes is highly overpriced. read more

I was visiting from out of town when I came here. The store was clean and had many employees busy getting merchandise out to the floor. What I found strange was that they didn't have a 50% color day! Upon entering the store I had asked the cashier what the color of the day was and she tells me it's green. I was in that store for 3 hours, so I had a cart full, only to be told someone told me wrong. I was highly disappointed. Another thing I found strange was that they randomly priced items higher in marker if they thought they were worth more than Goodwills pricing. A coffee mug for $14.99! You gotta be kidding me! lol Someone had also priced the baby dolls in marker on their forehead. That won't wash off! The gentleman who was cashier was very nice and had good conversation. This store gets new stuff pretty much every day. Hit or miss but usually a great selection of everything. I love a good deal and most of the time I can find either a totally new item or gently used item and a quarter of the cost of buying it elsewhere. You do have to bring your patience with you though, it takes a long time to sift through all the shtuff especially if you want to find a diamond in the rough. I have found a few and believe me, I had to do some major digging around to locate the goods I bought. However, I left happy as a clam having sent less then $15 with cart full of things I needed. Had I went and purchased them at Bed Bath & Beyond (it was a huge mix of things I purchased) I surely would have spent over $200. Not kiddin. I also donate here on a regular basis and find it handy that they have a drop off center directly in back of the store! If you like doing the yard sale thing, you'll love this stores variety. Or if your on a budget and have some time to waste, bring yer butt on down, I'm sure you'll find something you need :) read more

The prices here are way out of line. I went in to look for paperback children's books for my six grandkids and was shocked by the highest prices in town for used thrift store books. $1.99 and up? What? The lowest thrift book price in Chico is .25 each, with .50 being the average, and some at $1.00-2.00, which is also too high. Plus, they don't have a designated sale day like other stores to buy any books at a reduced price or deal. Goodwill has a HUGE inventory of books but they are pricing themselves out. I and others would buy so many of their books if their prices were within reason. Who is in charge of pricing? I have never seen such high prices anywhere else in CA. I am going to call corporate and complain. Customers should have access to great children's books at a FAIR price in a "thrift" store. Otherwise, why would we come to Goodwill in the first place? I have already voiced my opinion at the store. I am going to call corporate and complain. I love love love this store they have such nice people working there and they are very strict with COVID policy which is so important. DONT DONATE OR SHOP!! Homeless people crowd every section of the store. They take suitcases&backpacks fill them with anything they want&simply WALK OUT THE DOOR SLOWLY CHATTING IT UP AMONGST ONE ANOTHER. Not one employee even glances at them says one word nothing. The staff certainly makes it easier for the criminals since they refuse to help you when a homeless person knocks you down trying to get out the door. I have also had them push me out of the way on several occasions to grab an item. Its totally obvious who's doing it they have no shame. Meanwhile me a single mom on a super strict budget have to pay insane prices for must haves. The staff could not care less&are never entirely helpful or kind to the paying customers!! I don't know it it's frowned upon to greet customers & be friendly at the Goodwill but the culture there is horrible!! Love finding amazing treasures here. Sometimes it can be " a hit or a miss". Tend to feel their shoes are on the expensive side for used & worn shoes. Best time to get bargains on the clothes is when they have them marked down on the "colored tag" days. They generally do this during the week on certain days. So for instance : you go in on Wednesday and the price tag ( on the clothing) is written in black, those are marked down that day 50% off the original price! Other days it's other colored tags they give a percentage off. Toy section seems to always be a mess and a few other isles as well; but to me that's okay - it's the fun of looking through it all to find your special deals. Sometimes you find something somewhere it's not suppose to be (someone decided they didn't want it) & there : "you got it". Employees always seem to be pleasant & helpful. I have been falsely accused at thos store as well as hearing gossipy employees talking to customers about my business. I have been humiliated beyond belief from this place. I have never been so fabulously treated anywhere than when I met a young man named Anthony Arreaga at the chico goodwill. I was frustrated and hot and having a lousy day and he made me laugh and feel like I had just walked into my family home. He cared. He knew the entire store and treated me like I was the only important thing. I will send everyone to this store because of this young man and his incredible gift with people!!! I had high hopes for this new thrift store in town and so far it has been a let-down. There has been some improvement since it opened, but there are still lots of problems. On the plus side - This is a big store with a lot of inventory and is kept relatively clean and organized. The people who work here are generally friendly. I have found a couple good buys here. On the negative side - No discounts like every other thrift store has (in some shape of form). They have started a color based discount system, but it doesn't work well for the many items with the felt pen written on pricing. That ink wipes off and you can't read the numbers much less what color it is. Pricing is on the high side and sometimes ridiculously high. Also, inconsistent pricing on similar (or even identical) items. I don't like that they mix in brand new super cheap quality stuff with the used items. If I wanted that crap, I'd go to the dollar store - I don't... I have had a hard time getting employees to wrap my breakable items in some newspaper to keep it from breaking. Also, they ask every time if you want to donate your change to their training program - I hate that. Just give me my change, already... If we are lucky, they will improve with more time in business. Been in this new Goodwill store 4 times since opening in the old Mervyn's building. Very clean (we'll see if that lasts.) I was excited to see it finally open! Not so excited to see their prices! Yikes! But as the saying goes, if you don't like the price, don't buy it. I passed up on many things that, after seeing the price, said to myself "really? really???" And the biggest issue....why oh WHY do you use permanent (and semi-permanent) markers to write the price directly onto the product with??? Why ruin it? The few things I did buy are forever going to have the shadow of $1.99 written in blue ink on them! No amount of Goof off and Goo Gone worked. read more

I asked about something that wasn't priced they refused to price it. We asked to speak with a manager they refused to get one. We decided we were not going to purchase what we had already picked out and was leaving my daughter chose to go to the bathroom as the rest of us went out to the vehicle as my daughter was coming back out of the bathroom she heard some employees talking crap about us putting back the stuff we were going to purchase. Everything is ridiculously overpriced. All the items I was interested in were prices much higher then amazon or eBay. At least there is a guarantee and a return policy online. I have been to many goodwill stores and some are better than others; this one tends to have many things overpriced. Not everything is-- but my guess is at least 50% of store is--in clothing, miscellan, handbags, and furniture. There seemed to be a lot of broken stuff that should have never been on the shelves, esp in the bric-a-brac. I noticed the employees seem to have their own game going on, by that I mean they are conversating about whatever they have going on in their personal lives--in front of buyers. First I must say this is the first review I have ever written, I am so upset by this Goodwill that I felt it necessary for this to be the first! I have been an avid goodwill shopper for many years, and have often furnished my home and wardrobe from items at goodwills, from the east to west coasts. This is by far the worst one I have ever been to. To start, none of their electronics are tested to make sure they at least turn on before being put out. Every cord/adapter is unplugged from its device and put out separate from their parent device and into a single large tangled bin. Most appliances are missing parts. When looking to buy a food processor I noticed none of the blades were in them, I asked 2 different employees if they took the blades out of all of their food processors for safety reasons, both seemed unconcerned and stated that if there was no blade in them, they didn't have blades. Not one of these employees seemed to feel that these broken items should be removed from the shelves. They simply said if its not there its nowhere else. The prices alone are horrendous. 30-40 year old Crock pots were 15 dollars (the same amount as a new one from walmart) and as previously mentioned, there is no way of knowing if these over priced items would even work. Pyrex dish for 10 dollars? Buy a new one for the same amount as well. All prices are written onto the items with erasable markers, in very scattered places. Inevitably the prices get wiped off. The staff members in this store are incompetent and lacking any common sense. I have seen cashiers make people wait10-15 minutes for a price check on items that cannot possibly be valued more than 1$ because the item doesn't have a price. I wish I could say this is an isolated incident, but on several occasions I have been that customer waiting, and followed 3 other unlucky customers who have experienced the same thing. Very inefficient! The most upsetting part about this is that Goodwills are a franchise, all of their merchandise is obtained by donations and is free to them. They are robbing us blind and making only profit from these overpriced items. I am astounded that they wont put the effort in to at least make sure things work or have complete parts before being put out on the floor for sale. By the way; their return policy is only on electronics, and its 3 days (yes three, not missing a zero there). Don't even bother testing it, go somewhere else. Worst Goodwill I have ever set foot in, I will not be shopping there again, do yourself a favor and spare yourself the trouble. P.S. I would have given it zero stars if it was possible. read more

Used to be great, especially right when it opened. I've found amazing things for great prices but now it seems like anything that is worth looking at is in the case. Also the prices are a lot higher, I bought a PlayStation 2 for 6 dollars and 2 controllers about 6 months ago, now they want 80 dollars for the same thing. That's more expensive than buying it online, with a 3 month warranty (instead of 1 day). The whole point of thrift stores is finding cool things for cheaper. So there's no more point to this Goodwill store. read more

Well, Goodwill has been open for a few months so I've updated my review. Based on my experiences I've dropped two stars off my previous review. There are two main main reasons why: Customer service: As other have starts their customer service is bad when things get backed up. At first I chalked it up to it being a new store and them working out the kinks but its been months and its seen zero improvement. The clerks are very nice and if you are the only one in line its fine but the check out area is a mess: its disorganized, impacted, lines form any which way and its hard to tell when a spot has opened up when there is a bunch of people stacked up. Getting a price check is a crap shoot: sometimes you have to wait forever to get an item checked and it seems mostly they are just pulling a number from the air. Once a line forms you will be there forever. Their price markers are also a pain. They are non-permanent, which is a blessing and a curse. Every time I leave that store I have purple crap on my hands. Half the time the prices are nearly illegible (when they aren't rubbed off completely) and you dread having to sit in line at checkout of management to do a price check. Sometimes the show right up and sometimes its a 10 minute wait. They also write on things that you can't remove it from. I've seen decks of cards or board games wrapped up in packing tape with marker on them. Yeah, thats gonna sell. And you can't even open it up to make sure everything there and you'll have to ruin it to get it open. Someone needs to get the some price tags like every other thrift store in town. Prices: In my first review I mentioned the sometimes wacko prices. Well, its gotten worse. I was shocked to see that they had labeled a cache of old Corelle mugs at 4.99 a piece. Who in their right minds would pay almost $30 for some old, dirty coffee mugs? I checked them out when I got home and not even eBay had them priced that high! As another reviewer mentioned appliances and electronics are almost always missing crucial parts, I wont even get into their toys and games. It doesn't matter how cheap something is if you can't use it when you get home. All told, two stars. They get one have having lots of inventory and another for being clean. Their prices are all over the map, the quality of inventory is too, and their customer service is some of the worst I've ever seen even after months of being open. read more

This is easy. Clothing is just stuffed on the racks. It's almost impossible to go through items without actually pulling half the items off and setting them aside to clear some space. Then everything is too expensive hence the stuffed racks. Nothing moves so it just piles up. It's called goodwill not gooddeal for a reason. read more
