The shrimp brochette ( camarones veracruzanos) is a great choice if you are on a diet, and very tasty as well. It was perfectly cooked and deveined properly and had a nice char. The onions and peppers on the brochette had a nice caramelized flavor and I really enjoyed it. I had asked for it to be prepared without oil and my instructions were definitely followed. The accompanying brown rice with bits of fresh cilantro in it will make a fan out of anyone even if you normally hate brown rice like i do! read more

I liked this place. I usually stick to Hoboken but saw the good reviews. Very nice atmosphere and the food was good. I think this is a great restaurant for the area and glad to see it here. I've been to this location several times now and I'm just not impressed. I have come for happy hour and the sangria and guac here is delicious but i'd never had a full dinner. Finally came here for dinner with the family last weekend and we were left a little disappointed. Going into the restaurant we were immediately put off by the strange oniony/armpit smell. We ordered the guacamole which was probably the best thing on the menu. I ordered the carnitas fajita and some family members ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and chicken enchiladas. It took forever to get our food but i'll give them credit because the waiter came and apologized to us for the food taking so long as there was a large party there. My fajita was good but not amazing just lacking in overall seasoning and flavor. They give sauces on the side of the fajita dish which are a joke because it's a tiny amount, I would've liked more. Also three of us ordered fajitas which came with rich and beans. The rice dish on the side is tiny and was for all three of us. My dad stated he liked the chili's fajitas better and everyone was unhappy with the portion sizes. I do like the happy hour they have and i'll probably return for that but most likely not having dinner here again. read more

Just had dinner at Rosa and it was an epic mistake! They changed their entire menu in a clear move to maximize profits. I will not be going back. The service is subpar, bordering on unfriendly sometimes.The food is acceptable, albeit ordinary. The problem? Prices are way too high for what you get. $12 for guacamole? A mole chicken platter with a few tiny chunks of chicken for nearly $20? Their main dishes all have the problem of giving very little meat with more rice and mediocre refried beans. What is the spanish word for terrible? I cannot remember a recent dining experience so disappointing. The wait and bus staff were extremely effient, to the point of taking unfinished drinks and rushing plates off the table. The margarita was watery and unispred and the much touted sangria left me unimpressed. As for the food, it begins with the ration of chips and two dipping sauces that were accompanied with them. The lack of salsa is conspicuous by its absence. My guess is that they are trying to force everyone into the $12 guacamole. The entrees were mediocre at best, with my roast chicken being dry but well seasoned. We skipped dessert and left with a $200 bill for 4 people. If you are on the Jersey side of the river, ake the effort to go to El Bandito on Rt 59 in Suffen. You will be glad you did. read more

Be careful if you order the seared tuna salad - I did (I know, big mistake) and while the tuna wasn't spoiled, it was cooked at least a few hours before, and refrigerated. Awful. Were I not with a big group of people, I would have sent it back. Some of the other food was passable, but it was all very low quality. But we were there to drink and have fun - and those drinks were mighty weak, and mighty expensive. In short, there's no good reason to come here. Terrible food, weak, expensive drinks. Went there with 5 people to celebrate an anniversary. The service was great and the food was very good. The manager and waitress were excellent and couldn't do enough to accomadate our requests. If you are use to eating at Taco Bell I can understand why you would think this place is over priced. The meals average from a low of $15 to a high in the low $20 range. Yuk! Had a terrible, not even close to being authentic meal. Service was slow, food took forever to arrive, then arrived cold. All on a Sunday when the mall attached isn't even open so the place was only 25% full. Tortilla soup tasted like the water the beans had been boiled in. Quesadillas had no filling. I have been eating at Rosa Mexicana for years and have been to 4-5 different locations in NJ & NYC. The Riverside Mall is pretty convenient to get to since its right off of Rte 4. I LOVE the guacamole there bc they make it for you table side and its perfectly made to you level of spiciness! Love the unlimited homemade tortilla chips- very light. Of course you have to have their frozen signature pomegrante margarita! Perfectly chilled with the right amount of sweetness. Ordering this frozen prevents me from gulping it down too quickly! ;) Also great are the fish tacos and the grilled chicken in skillet entrée. If youre watching your calories, you can order it without the Chihuahua cheese and get the side of corn simply grilled (no cream). The last time I was at Hackensack RM, my server was ALEX who was AMAZING!!! Excellent service , greeted us with a smile, frequently checked in us, and has great energy (unlike some of the other servers). I will always ask to sit in his section everytime I return! (Past servers have given okay service but I found that I had to request water refills, and more tortilla chips, more drinks, etc...) Alex was the BEST and he is the reason that I will go back! It was the boyfriends birthday and he loves Mexican food more than I do so I knew I had to make a reservations here for his birthday. We had a 6pm reservation and were seated instantly. We ordered drinks and ordered appetizers. We ordered the chorizo empanadas and I have to say it was delicious. But that's all that was good that night. For my entree I ordered, Tres Enchiladas as recommended to me by my server. the boyfriend ordered Pollo Adobado. I HATED my food! I couldn't wait to be done with it. It was sweet and also salty. It was not appetizing at all. I was so upset I even ordered it. The boyfriend said his dish was okay and definitely not what he liked. He's has had grilled chicken fajitas from another restaurant that is not as expensive at this one before and prefers that one over the meal he had here. We both expected more from this classy establishment but the food was just mediocre. Aside from the food being bad, I expected at least to have a decent service. But nope, the server took our order, gave our food and never came back. Why come back to such a terrible restaurant when there's less expensive ones that taste better?! read more

Ate here last night for the first time with a couple of friends. Loved it! Decor is festive yet tasteful. We sat in a booth next to the cool water wall with the diving men! Tableside guac excellent. We had it with fresh veggies as well as chips. I had Chicharrón-crusted fresh fish with avocado salsa verde and oven-roasted achiote cauliflower. It was fresh and delicious but I took half home for another time since I stuffed myself on the guac. Asked for the server's advice on a cocktail because I didn't want it too sweet and she was correct in her assessment that it would work for me and it did. There was a bit of a lag between getting the guac and then someone taking our order for dinner but it didn't ruin the experience for me. Would definitely come back again. read more

First I will say the restaurant is beautiful, but the food was just ok. The service was beyond disappointing. Our waiter seemed out off by us being there. When I attempted to order some short rib or chorizo tacos by themselves, when they are on the lunch menu in a combo, he told me I could not. What kind of service is that? The restaurant clearly makes those two types of tacos, but would not let me order them without being apart of the entire lunch combo plate which includes guacamole, salad/soup, tacos and flan. One of the most beautiful restaurants anywhere. I have probably had more than a 100 guacamoles in Rosa Mexicanos over the last 30 years. Tonight's was maybe the best ever -- Nigel who made it, really has it down to perfection. The manager is great. Our waiter Bernie is really personable and made the whole experience fun. The 3 enchiladas are highly recommended, as are the uniquely delicious frozen mango margaritas. Also, the flautas were perfectly crispy. Just came from there. $28 for guacamole!!! One avocado was $14. Up sold at the table. Not worth it - $28??? OUCH! Hardly any chicken in the small - 5" chicken enchiladas (3) sitting in a and covered by green puddle. $18. There was one inch on both ends of the enchiladas where it was unstuffed and unfilled - nothing - nada. We ordered 2 orders and they were both like this. Chicken enchiilada they should rename it 'no-chicken enchilada.' Spent more time trying to get us to order drinks than coming over with more tortilla chips for our double Guac order. The atmosphere is casual upscale and I liked that. The guacamole appetizer was very delicious and more tasty than other guacamoles. The chips and spices that went with it were very good as well. The Mango Tropical drink was sweet and delicious. I had the short ribs for dinner which was not as spicy as I was hoping (it had two chili peppers next to the name which meant that it was mild I think). The meat was very tender and delicious but there really was not much to eat except the meat itself. Dessert was a special with french toast and ice cream. They did not tell us the ice cream was made from goat milk but I could tell because it tasted weird and goat milk tastes weird to me. I asked the waiter about it and it was goat milk. Overall, the atmosphere was excellent and the food was very good and looked nice presentation-wise so I would definitely go back and try something else. Perfect for couples. read more

I usually go out of my way to avoid eating at restaurants near/connected to malls, but I may have to rethink that theory after eating at Rosa Mexicano at The Shops at Riverside. The service was great, they have a solid beer list (I strongly recommend the Rogue Juniper Ale), and the food was pretty good. My fiancee loved the personal sangria pitcher as well. Also, even though plenty of tables had kids, the place was overly loud or crazy, and still maintained a cool ambiance. Surprisingly, the only knock I really have was that the guacamole was average, which is surprising based on some of the other reviews. I may have just gotten a sub-standard batch. No problems other than that, I stongly recommend for anyone looking for a good bite to eat before or after going to the mall. read more
