We stopped in recently on a Sunday. No problem parking or getting a table. My wife had a been here several times and liked the guac cart and the Sangria. I dislike guac but love Sangria. Our waiter was a cheerful fellow. Very personable. A bit too much upselling but our order was handled promptly with no issues. Carnitas for me. An egg dish for my wife. A humongous pitcher of white Sangria. Rice and beans. Everything was tasty. The Sangria wasn't as transcendent as my wife's but it got the job done. If you don't have a an authentic hole in the wall Mexican in your immediate area, this chain outpost will do the trick. read more

Very disappointed tonight. Always looked forward to a meal here, but not tonight! Overpriced entree! $38 for 4 bites of steak, plus a few mushrooms. $28 for skirt steak that was totally inedible ! My grilled chicken taco was great. Mikayla was our waitress and she was charming, helpful, funny and amazing. We think she is so nice bc she lives with such an incredible family including her mom and grandma. My wife and sister-in-law had the cheese enchilada and my wife said it was the best enchilada she ever had. My brother-in-law had the steak taco and he was so thrilled with his taco and the service by Mikayla that he asked to see Dave the manager to congratulate him on such a wonderful staff. This place is not only very comfortable but has a very nice weight staff and great food. It takes a while to get served, which is slightly inconvenient, but not a big deal. There is usually a pretty long wait on weekends, but during the week it's not bad. It's very clean, the bathrooms are very clean, the decor is very nice. We did have to wait a pretty long while to be seated, but it was worth it. They even stayed open during Covid and we're very accommodating. read more

We sat at the bar for happy hour at about 5:45 only to discover the hours were changed and happy hour ends at 6. Didn't really care for the white sangria, so I ordered the red which was only slightly better. We ordered chicken quesadillas, flautas, and fish tacos. Overall the food was below average. Something in the flavor was off, especially the fish tacos, which left us quite disappointed. The bartender told us that the hours for happy hour changed 2 weeks ago. However, the signs in the bathroom still indicated happy hour was from 4-7 and bottomless guacamole is still on the menu. Is this a sign of how infrequently they clean the bathroom or just poor management? I think Chipotle would have been more flavorful! Needless to say I won't be back anytime soon. read more

We tried churros, flan and tres leches. All of which were poorly executed. The coffee was the best part of the meal. If you want authentic Mexican tacos this is not the place. I have been coming to this restaurant for a long time now. I came today and realize the whole menu has been changed. I'm so disappointed this is suppose to be a Mexican restaurant and the menu has been completely changed. I use to love coming for the Salmon with the kale and chorizo and the chorizo empanadas and they both are no longer are on the menu. They both have been changed and no longer my taste. HORRIBLE.... Nicely Appointed Space Great Service Interesting Twists On Traditional Mexican Fare After years of avoiding Rosa Mexicano due to the assumption it was simply overpriced Mexican food served in a trendy environment, I decided it was time to find out for myself what would differentiate a $1.50 taco and a $5.00 taco other than a rectangular plate. A hostess was on hand to greet and seat us immediately and my preference of a particular table was no problem. Soon after being seated our server came to greet us and take drink orders, he made a few recommendations and towed the company line by pushing the table side guacamole on which we took a pass. I explained to him this was our first visit and some time was needed to look over the menu, he asked if we would like some freshly made chips with a duo of monthly specialty salsas the red (roasted tomatillo and chipotle with garlic) and green (habanero, cilantro and cranberry). A few moments later our basket of chips, salsas and two glasses of ice water arrived. For appetizers the ahi tuna ceviche and pulled roasted chicken flautas where excellent, both dishes offered arrived quickly in a generous portion. Our entrees, duck confit tacos (3) and pulled roasted chicken enchiladas mole were well thought out, using layers of flavors to complete a well executed mole this Mexican standard is quite complex though often misunderstood. The tacos were quite interesting and given the fusion approach a total success, the duck was rich and succulent served on a fruit puree and topped with fried sweet potato strings. On the side a diced mix of hot peppers and wedge of lime made for a nice accompaniment. I like a chef that makes me think! The flavors, cooking techniques, ingredients and presentation here are quite good. We could have done the happy hour thing at the bar and been satisfied, but I'm glad I sat down and took time to savor what the chef here had to offer. read more

The Applebee's of mexican food. I wanted to love this place so much but my waiter, made my experience unenjoyable. No introduction and very curt throughout my visit. No napkins or utensils on the table, when asking for them we got an eye roll and exactly 3 small napkins for my party of 3, 1 for each of us, along with a shrug. We ended up having to ask another waiter who was walking by if he could help us out and he kindly did so but confused as to why we didn't have them to begin with. However, the frozen and regular margaritas were very good, especially with the tres chiles tincture. We had the frozen Pomegranate, La Tradicional Margarita and a Mechalada, if I'm not mistaken (stay away from that) wasn't very good. For starters, we ordered the Guacamole and the Queso fundido, both were very good! This was followed by enchiladas, each one with a different topping, sort of a Zesty, savory and sweet and tacos de alambre de carne, which were good but very spicy. Would I come back? I heard about this place from a colleague who is a big fan of Mexican food. So, I took my family here for a New Year's day meal and now I see why this place is so highly recommended. The food itself was delicious. I ordered the fried fish tacos which were crispy on the outside but fresh and tender on the inside. The guacamole was fresh and served table side which was a fun experience. And last but not least, the churros are to die for. I recommend dipping them in the raspberry sauce and then the chocolate. The service was 12/10. The servers were all very attentive and the food came out promptly. The manager, Kelvin, introduced himself and made sure that we were enjoying the meal. I felt very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Overall, just a wonderful experience and they will be seeing me again! read more

On a Sunday it's happy hour all day here. The margaritas are standard for a chain, nothing special at all. With happy hour you can only have 1 flavored option and that's mango. I don't eat guac but my friends liked it and had 3 refills for 1 price. You can tell them how hot you want it too. The nachos were ok. Too soggy at the end for me. The cheeses were good though and the level of spice was a good balance. The chicken tacos were ok, nothing special either. Small too. I wouldn't come back here, not worth it. When I read online about Mexican Passover at Rosa Mexicano it piqued my curiosity. After taking our drink order, and the normal guacamole push, we mainly ordered from the special Passover menu and were then asked if we wanted a seder plate. I said "sure". The seder plate (picture) was both amusing and lame. Plus it took forever to get a piece of matzoh. Unfortunately, our waitress was terrible. This is rare at this Rosa Mexicano location. Next, we were supposed to receive pickled cucumbers, pickled carrots, cabbage, and jalapeño plate and a spicy salsa made with cilantro, garlic, jalapeño for the table. Our appetizers came out first and I had to explain to the waitress that we were supposed to receive this first. I had to pull teeth to make her understand. Argh. The complimentary items were worth the wait. For an appetizer my wife had the crisp corn tortillas, more like flautas, filled with corned beef, cabbage escabeche, and topped with spicy mustard salsa verde. She said they were one of the best appetizers she has ever had here. I had the beef tongue tacos: two handmade corn tortillas filled with seared beef tongue, topped with spicy green salsa, diced raw onion and sliced hard-boiled egg. They were excellent! Wife went off the passover menu for her entree and had an order of the ceviche. The shrimp came out warm?!?!? Tried to explain to the waitress which went nowhere fast. Luckily, we grabbed the attention of one of the managers and he rectified the situation immediately. I had the roasted brisket of barbecued beef wrapped in a banana leaf with dried fruit tsimmies, served with glazed baby carrots. One of the pieces of brisket was ideal the other was a bit dry. Otherwise a nice dish. We ordered all 3 side dishes. 1. Haroset (a blend of tropical fruits, nuts, and sweet wine). Had we known in advance that some came on the seder plate we would never have ordered. We didn't even touch it. 2. Kugel (a noodle pudding) with huitlacoche mushrooms, peas, and cream. Outstanding! This should be on the menu every single day. 3. Sweet glazed baby carrots with agave nectar, butter, chile de árbol, and epazote. These were excellent too but the portion was skimpy. We skipped the special passover dessert (Toasted hazelnut and matzoh cake layered with Manischewitz blackberry wine-poached pears and coated with piloncillo-crème fraîche frosting, served with sweet blackberry sauce and candied hazelnuts.) Instead we tried their new banana cake with peanut butter mousse dessert. It was disappointing. A shame because usually their desserts are excellent. My friend and I decided to take a break from shopping and dine at Rosa Mexicano on Friday night. We made a reservation, but upon arrival, we quickly realized that we didn't need one. The bar area was crowded, but the main dining room was maybe 30% full. The guacamole is completely overpriced, but how can you not order it, right? I wish they gave you a little more...there was hardly enough for the two of us. I always get the steak and shrimp stew, but I was disappointed this time. The steak did not taste like skirt steak. It was chewy and fatty, and lacked the flavor I have come to know and love. And the shrimp were tiny. Why, why, why? My friend ordered the seafood enchiladas and she thought they were just okay. For the prices in this place, they should make certain that the food is killer every time. The best part about Rosa is the atmosphere. Very swanky and never too loud. I hate it when I cannot hear the person I am dining with. Otherwise, this experience was a tad underwhelming. I am not in a rush to return. read more

But the food is the MISS here Ordered guacamole- extra spicy. Had NO kick, no lemon juice, NO salt... What? Why? Whyyy would you mess up on guacamole at a Mexican restaurant with an entire little table you bring out to showcase a demonstration. Then the fish tacos- cod.. Not mild as I like it and as the waiter assured me- fish tasted like mcdonalds frozen fish thrown into a fryer.... Again, no flavor in the actual taco.. Had to add the salsa on the side, the black beans, the verde and the red sauces as well to get some flavor worth biting into... Had to even ask for lemons to squeeze. After it was all done, and I created a masterpiece on my own... It's fair to say the food is decent- but I am not coming back. I'm spoiled with good Mexican food... And this is not it. Walking into the restaurant, it seemed high class and elegant, so therefore we had high expectations. However the food, while it was good, was overpriced and came in small portions. There was also a long wait until the food came in. In addition, we decided to celebrate my friend's birthday by bringing in a cake that we made especially for her birthday. They had the nerve to attempt to charge us $5 for each time they cut a slice for us. We insisted that we would cut the cake ourselves but they still looked to charge us because it's still a convenience fee to have food outside of the restaurant brought inside. However, we did not see or anticipate them having any birthday cakes on their menu. They also did not sing happy birthday to my friend like they did to other customers during our dinner there. Also, when I stepped away to the restroom, the waitress brought out the cake - candles lit and all. When my other friend stopped her, the waitress blew out the candles, but the surprise was blown out with the candles. I spoke to the manager after the cake and dinner and he tried to bargain with me by not charging the birthday girl for the cutting of the cake. But once I told him about the waitress' blunder, he did not charge me or my friends for cutting the cake. So between the overpriced food, the small portions, the long wait before food came out and the waitress' blunder, I was pretty disappointed about this restaurant. I'm a fan of Rosa Mexicano, but this location is just OK. I went during lunch w/ my friend Katherine during a shopping trip to NJ, and I just didn't have the same experience that I've had at some of their "big city" locations (DC, NYC). Sure, the service was good, but the food was just alright. Their signature tableside guacamole was tasty (as usual), but just about everything else was not up to par with what I've had at their other restaurants. One of the biggest disappointments for me was the Budín de Pollo (essentially a tortilla casserole w/ chicken). First, the chicken was diced really small and tasted like processed chicken (it tasted artificial)... the poblano pepper cream sauce on top tasted odd... and, the tortillas were overcooked (thus tough) on the edges. As you can imagine, I was very disappointed! We did share another dish, their Queso Fundido appetizer with rilled shrimp, which we thought was tasty. But, that and the guacamole, wasn't enough to avert an overall mediocre dining experience. read more

I have been to Rosa many many times (mainly dinner) after this because Damn Guacamole and La Unica always makes me go back!! Ugh wish other Mexican places offered such great margaritas and guacamole. But service though. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. The main host (think she is the Maitre D) is unpleasant every time we go. One time a person was smoking outside the restaurant in their outdoor seating area where it clearly says No Smoking. I went in to talk to her she said well I can't tell him anything. I was like umm it says No Smoking. She didn't even bother. I was stunned. Then there was another moment when we walked in and had a reservation for 5ppl. When we got there, my husband said checking in for so and so and it's 4 and 1 highchair. She rolled her eyes. In. Front. Of. Us. Maybe she thought we didn't see her roll her eyes? How unprofessional can you be? Our 2 guests said did you see that? We just shrugged it off bc at this point we know how unpleasant she is. Regarding service, there are like 2-3 servers who are attentive and do the right thing. Every time my husband and I go, we hope we get those servers. Very few times we get lucky. But the rest are just there to earn $$ (can't blame them) and check out. I have a feeling they are severely short staffed. One Friday evening, so many tables were dirty and no one bothered to clean. A Friday evening. Not Monday or Tuesday. Many servers and busboys walked by all the dirty tables, including managers and no one cleaned them. The young hostess (not the unpleasant one), tried to get attention to clean the table Bc she had people waiting. At the end she ended up cleaning one table herself to seat the diners. Long review bc I am so sad and disappointed with their customer service at this location. I know their Lincoln Center location has higher standards when it comes to diners experience but this doesn't come close at all. This has to be the worst experience I've had ever had at a Mexican restaurant. I had been to the R.M. restaurants in NYC several times and was looking forward to this but was severely disappointed. The low light was the chamorro, which was extremely dry and completely unappetizing. It looked like something that had been sitting in the back of a freezer and fried or broiled to hide the effect of the freezer-burn. We complained to the waitress who apologized half-heartedly, but made no effort to resolve the situation. Service in general was below average considering the place was almost empty at the time and the other items we ordered were definitely not memorable either. When I asked for my check at the end, I got a small tablet device asking for my feedback. I expressed my complete dissatisfaction with the condition of the food but got no further attempt from anyone to make the situation right. One last piece of advice to the restaurant management - if you are not going to do anything to remedy a bad situation and dissatisfied customer, don't waste our time asking for feedback. read more
