Inconsistent and delicious. Love me some Roots, but man.. they love to keep you guessing. Sometimes you get 8-9oz of protein, sometimes you get 4-5oz. Sometimes they can barely put the lid on the bowl, sometimes the bowl is half full. If I ever become president, my first course of action is mandating all food chains to weigh their protein servings. Good for business, good for customers. Gonna have to wash this one down with a can of tuna. God bless.

Everything I was looking for. Easy vegan swaps, clean tables, massive portions, and friendly service. Their predefined bowls are creative and packed with flavorful ingredients. I went with the Apollo, removing feta/chicken and adding bbq tofu. Delicious vegan meal, made easy. My daughter had the miso tofu which was also very good. This was a dinner that checked every box!

I recently went to roots for the first time this weekend, and I was not disappointed! I customized by own bowl, which I highly recommend if you're a pickier person, it was amazing. I usually am skeptical about tofu when I go out but the bbq tofu was amazing, definitely my favorite part!

Perfect spot if you're looking for somewhere quick, easy, and on the healthier side with quality ingredients. You can choose from a signature bowl (which you can still make substitutions) or customize your own, both made assembly style. Bowls range in price from about $10-$12. I had the Athena. It has brown rice, arugula, olives, cranberries, pita chips, red onions, cucumber, shrimp and pita chips with lemon dill dressing. I actually had it two days in a row! It was light and fresh. While I devoured it all in one meal, you could stretch it and get two out of a dish. Bon appetit.

    El Jefe

Had the El Jefe here. Pretty good although it just reminds me of another Mezeh or Chipotle. The chicken has a nice grilled taste and the sauces are tasty - although I wouldn't say they make the dish healthy at all. It was $11 for the grain bowl and honestly it's a little pricey in my opinion and it doesn't seem healthier than Chipotle and Mezeh with the added sauces and chicken (if you get it with chicken). It's definitely filling though. The tea here is also okay. I think I'd prefer to go to my usual Chipotle instead of Roots but it's still a tasty place to eat at, just don't expect that huge of a difference from the Mezeh and Chipotle near it.

The covered patio is fantastic--it sits perfectly between buildings, creating a light, refreshing breeze that makes outdoor dining incredibly comfortable. There's also an ample amount of seating, so you never feel cramped. The service is just as impressive as the atmosphere. Our first server, Cassidy, was so amazing that we specifically requested her on our second visit. As for the food, you really can't go wrong. My husband, mother-in-law, and I tried the Philly cheesesteaks and tortellini on day one, and followed it up with the baked ziti, manicotti, and broccoli Alfredo on visit number two. Our pasta entrée's came with a fresh tossed or Caesar salad, and they start you off with warm, soft bread that has the perfect crust. The portions are incredibly generous (expect leftovers!), making the pricing very reasonable. For my husband and me, our bill was only around $45 including soft drinks. We love this spot for lunch and can't wait to come back for dinner and drinks!

We were seated pretty quickly after walking in. It's a very casual place and there was a bar with seating inside and out. But we were seated in somewhat of a patio area, not inside or outside. The hostess closed the shades for us because the sun was beaming in bright. Our server was nice and was a Virginia Tech student. We told him it was our first time there and asked him what he might recommend. He said to stick to the signature tacos and specific sides. He also brought us chips and salsa which was a good starter. I got the bang bang shrimp tacos and jalapeño cheddar mashers. It was all delicious. My husband got the honey soy salmon tacos and fried plantains. He really liked it. The only thing is that the plantains were not fired as we expected and weee more like the usual sweet plantains. All in all still delicious. I'd definitely want to visit here again. We all enjoyed our food, however some of us found it to be a bit plain, particularly the savory dishes. This is notable given that the menu is mostly (if not entirely) vegetarian, which is not the norm for a Southern brunch but does not seem to preclude the locals from packing in. I stopped in early to beat the rush. They had a breakfast special that yielded a substantial bowl with quinoa, beans, herbed tofu, and a few other ingredients brought together by a zingy salsa. An orange juice was the right compliment for a high protein and fiber bowl which definitely started the day off right. Plenty of pancakes and toasts were available for those seeking more conventional brunch. The ambiance is a bit tired and the menu not as varied as I might hope, but I can certainly see why the locals view this as an easy spot to agree on.
