Vegetable chili momos. 5/5 spice. No joke.
    John B.

This restaurant sits on the edge of Blacksburg's main street stretch, but notably has its own parking. It was fairly busy with both takeout and in-person business when I visited. The menu has some distinctively Nepali specialties in addition to things you could find at any Indian restaurant, so I sampled their momos, dumplings with a soy and vegetable mince which are available with several different preparations. I ordered them with chili sauce and asked for the full 5/5 spice level, and discovered that these people do not mess around. Having eaten only half my portion it felt like I was melting away the lining of my esophagus. Most diners probably will want to stick to a lower spice level, but I'm not saying it wasn't delicious. Their samosa chaat was gigantic but none of the flavors really hit me; perhaps it was too mild in comparison to my fiery dumplings. A chai came sweetened but not overly so and made for a nice compliment. The place wasn't the cleanest, but the food was legit.

New Nepalese place that is conveniently placed in corner of Blacksburg main street. Very walkable and has a parking lot for cars Food: Chicken lolipops are a must have. Great flavor and crispiness from the chicken. The chicken biryani was also very good. The chicken jhol momo is a must have as well, great amount of flavor in each momo. The garlic naan was also very good, very garlicky. Mango lassi was very creamy and mangoy. Do not get the tikka masala - flavorless. Service: Service was slow as it was a new restaurant, I expect it to improve as they get on their feet. The servers are super friendly. Ambiance: The place is cozy and cute with a decent number of tables. Extra: Overall worth a try.

Came here on a weekday lunch during winter break, and it was actually busier than I expected! However, my friend and I had absolutely no issue getting seated. I came here thinking that I'd be getting some Nepalese food, but Hamro really does a mix of Nepalese and Indian food. I ordered the goat biryani and got garlic naan for the table, which were tasty, but not exceptional. The garlic naan had pieces of garlic on top of it that I had not seen on garlic naan before, but were still not bad. The biryani was good, but the bowl was too small for the bowl, which made it slightly difficult to eat. Not a bad spot!

I was really looking forward to a nice Indian meal, but this was a huge letdown. First, the rice was cold, hard, and clumpy--it felt like it had been sitting out for hours. The butter chicken was tasty, but there were only SIX pieces of chicken in the entire dish! For the price, I expected way more. To top it off, they forgot my mango lassi completely. I called to let them know, and they didn't seem very apologetic or eager to make it right. Definitely not worth the money or the hassle. Wouldn't recommend.

I should have wiped the bowl to make the presentation better, lol. Chicken Curry - very hot!

First time ordering food from Hamro Kitchen. Order was ready upon arrival. The staff member who rang up my order was nice. The dining area looked nice and spacious though I didn't eat in. And the food... the food was delicious. The only thing that didn't impress me was the naan, but it could be because it was a to go order and food sweats when wrapped up hot and in containers. Overall, I enjoyed it very much. You can also let them know how spicy you want your dishes from 1 to 5, so if you are not into very spicy food don't go beyond 1 or 2.

I have lived in Blacksburg my whole life and ODB has been a go-to bakery for most locals for a while. Serving a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and offering lunch, brunch, and dinners. They have a lovely variety of options for customers to enjoy. The bakery primarily serves French pastries and caters to French cuisine at their meals. Although they offer more than just French inspired food. In the past, my family and I have enjoyed grabbing their cakes for celebrations and individual pastries from their pastries case. But recently, they have not been up to par and have left us very unsatisfied. The cakes have been dry and do not taste fresh at all. On my latest visit I tried a couple of things, all of which were cold, with dry, crumbly textures. It was evident to me that these pastries were not made day-of and had clearly sat in a fridge for at least one night (if not more). I found this to be extremely disappointing as ODB used to have a reputation of serving FRESH baked goods and pastries. I cannot attest for the hot food they serve during meal times, but the pastries and cakes have gone down hill. Over the winter break, I had their NY cheesecake bar (which I've gotten in the past and it was phenomenal) and it fell so short of what I remembered. It was lacking flavor and the crust at the bottom was dry. This past visit, I tried a Napoleon (also have had this before and really enjoyed it), a specialty cake, a scone, and a couple macarons and macaroons. The Napoleon was so cold and the puff pastry was super stale, it practically fell apart the second I tried to eat it. The specialty individual cake slice was also very cold and the cake wasn't moist at all. Again, indicating it was not fresh or made day-of. The scone was also a disappointment as it was dry and lacked any moisture. I thought the macrons and macaroons were fine though. While most of this was disappointing, the price didn't help either. Nothing was inexpensive and the quality was completely missing. So disappointing to leave this review as I used to enjoy coming here for sweet treats. It's sad to see that ODB is unfortunately not what it used to be. I will note that the service is very friendly and they do their best dealing with customers. Could have been more efficient, but I did go during a busier time. I hope they can turn things around, but until then I do not think I will be retuning soon.

We actually tried eating here a few months prior but the wait was nearly 2 hours long. This go around we had no wait. We were immediately sat and our drink orders were taken. The appetizer was yummy, can't remember what it was called but it was basically like doughnuts without the caramel it comes with. Our server was a young man and he did a fantastic job. He was very attentive to our table and our needs. The food was amazing, now I see why there was a 2 hour wait last time. I rarely eat other people's grits but these were pretty tasty and cooked just right. When I got my check I was in total shock though. Two apple juices (with no refills mind you) were approx. $5 a piece. WTF, why so expensive? I could have purchased a large jug of apple juice from Kroger. Yeah, I know I sound cheap. Nope, that the case just shocked at the price of a small glass of apple juice was with again no refills. We will definitely return next time I visit but we won't get apple juice again, we will stick to water.

Joe's was a nice start to the day as they provide good food and good service within a tiny, but capable venue. Joe's is located near the Main St-College Ave intersection, next door to Hokie Hair (mind you, College Ave is no longer open to traffic, it's now a huge sidewalk). They are small and, since all the buildings along this portion of Main St are older, its interior is dark and dated. A makeover could be in order, but its old school look and feel lends itself to the friendly small town vibe I've become accustomed to in Blacksburg. This diner was nearly full, so we sat at the bar. There were three servers on the floor - all students. All three were friendly, helpful and loquacious (we talked about college in general, how to take advantage of a college's resources, and even discussed desired future outcomes of their educations - plenty of interesting topics for a chill Sunday morning). Neal had the t-bone steak and eggs, while I ordered a dish known as Joetaters (diced potatoes, cheddar jack, eggs, onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms; and a choice of either bacon, ham, country ham, or sausage). Joetaters also came with a choice of white or wheat toast (or you can choose a biscuit for an extra $1.50). I chose wheat toast, and the entree was excellent. Neal ate his entire meal, so it's safe to say we enjoyed our food. Joe's is an excellent diner with awesome food and service. I can't wait to dine there again when I return. Thank you, Joe's Diner!
