Recently visited Eggs Up Grill in Blacksburg, Va because I was visiting my daughter in college and we wanted to give this place a try. We actually tried eating here a few months prior but the wait was nearly 2 hours long. This go around we had no wait. We were immediately sat and our drink orders were taken. Both my daughter and I chose apple juice. We also ordered a small appetizer b/c she was starving. The appetizer was yummy, can't remember what it was called but it was basically like doughnuts without the caramel it comes with. Our server was a young man and he did a fantastic job. He was very attentive to our table and our needs. The food was amazing, now I see why there was a 2 hour wait last time. I rarely eat other people's grits but these were pretty tasty and cooked just right. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I got my check I was in total shock though. Two apple juices (with no refills mind you) were approx. $5 a piece. WTF, why so expensive? I could have purchased a large jug of apple juice from Kroger.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Yeah, I know I sound cheap. Nope, that the case just shocked at the price of a small glass of apple juice was with again no refills. We will definitely return next time I visit but we won't get apple juice again, we will stick to water. read more

This might be my new favorite breakfast place. I have come to love the Breakfast Bowl's they serve. The Loaded Homefry and Texican are my favorite. Be careful though, the Texican packs some heat. Not sure how big this chain is, but I've eaten at the Richmond and Blacksburg locations. Both deliver. Both are solid. Nicely done. Keep up the great service and high quality servings. read more

Awful food! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The amount of sugar in the hot chocolate was off the charts![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The country ham, gravy and fries were not edible due to the amount of salt. The server didn't even take the biscuits off the check after we explained we couldn't eat something that salty. She explained the gravy was bought frozen, wasn't prepared by them. When my husband asked to take it off the check she did but then went back complaining we didn't leave a tip!! Why would we? After paying $80 for mediocre food. This place obviously doesn't care about costumers. If you want to get diabetes and a heart attack have breakfast here daily! read more

Went there this morning with my son based on reviews. They were really busy but we sat at the counter so no issues. I ordered a chicken fried steak, with over easy eggs and home style potatoes. My son had a blt and the same potatoes. We also had the cronuts. I expected a regular chicken fried steak, but I got a small one that fit on a biscuit? I have eaten a lot of these from coast to coast, and have never gotten one so small! I guess their thought is to make it a sandwich, if that is the case, put it on the sandwich menu not the main meal part. His BLT was ok if you like lettuce and tomato, but the "B" part was missing other than a few small strips. The cronuts were supposed to be freshly made well, they were made sometime, but I'm not sure it was after we sat down. Overall, a disappointing place for us. If we were local, we might give them another chance. But next time we are in town, will look some where else. read more

Came by for breakfast on a weekday during spring break , and it was pretty busy! However, I was seated fairly quickly and got my food put in quite quickly. I ordered one of the specials, which was crab cake based. It was pretty good in general. The grits and biscuit were just okay. Also thought that the pricing was fair. Overall, a good breakfast spot! Not sure why this place doesn't have many reviews. Our experience was really good. We met our "Hokies" for breakfast before we headed back home. This is my favorite breakfast spot! Every time I go visit my parents we always make an effort to have breakfast once (or twice) at Eggs Up because it's so good. Their waffles are hands down the best I've ever had. They have a cake batter/vanilla flavor that I absolutely love. I love their toast - it's sourdough and they butter it for you. The service has been great every time we've been and the inside is really cute and spacious. There's usually a wait on the weekends so I prefer to go during the week but I love this restaurant and think it's a great addition to Blacksburg breakfast places read more

We walked in and there were at 30 people waiting. I knew there was no way we were getting in. The hostess told me it would only be 10 minutes. She was right, we were seated in 8 minutes at the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our server explained they had coffee and how they were able to serve it with the water issue in town. We had hot coffee for the 1st time in 6 days! It was glorious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered Eggs Benedict and the Classic Breakfast. Both were out with in about 15 minutes. The fried potatoes are amazing. The eggs Benedict had the perfect about of sauce and the English muffin was fresh. The bacon that came with the classic was perfectly crisp. They forgot to add eggs to the batter, as they fell apart easily. Also I think their griddle is too hot, as they were no quite done on the inside. Bacon was crisp as requested. I was surprised to see such a low rating for this place. The service definitely needs some work. I've been twice and the host(ess) seemed confused. There are definitely kinks that need to be worked out on the seating aspect. Both times our servers were incredibly nice and the place was packed. My meals were top notch, and my 72 year old dad said he had the best scrambled eggs in his life there. My family has tried a range of items there. They cooked my bacon crispy, just like I asked. Don't be fooled by the one star. This place deserves a negative rating. My wife and I just tried this place with fingers crossed; interior is bright and inviting. I ordered the eggs Benedict and cheddar garlic grits. I would have never thought grits could be inedible--they're really only a vehicle for salt and butter. I was wrong. These were both gritty and soupy and tasted less like "garlic" than "garlic powder." Eggs Benedict were disappointing: hollandaise sauce tasted like it came out of a can; the English muffins hadn't even been toasted. My wife fared no better. Her grits: not good. Her eggs: dry (as if cooked on high heat and turned maybe three times) and lukewarm (you can "slow" cook scrambled eggs over medium with butter while constantly mixing and turn out steaming, velvety goodness in under seven minutes). Bacon: dehydrated, as if microwaved within an inch of its life. Orange juice: from a machine. Coffee: one part Maxwell house to 20 parts water. How you can mess up breakfast like this I don't know. The staff seem untrained. The service was very slow, we sat for at least 20 minutes before a waitress came over. Many were standing around not doing much while we waited. I have eaten at their South Carolina Restaurant and the food was better here. The potatoes were also cooked well. The coffee was fine. If their coffee can be fresher? stronger?, I would have given five stars. Service was also quite good. The first server had a great sense of humor and was attentive. The second time I ate there, the service was also good, however, the server seemed distracted. Again, if you are looking for a great breakfast place, look no farther. We just discovered Eggs Up Grill and were very happy with the menu, service and ambiance. I had Eggs Benedict with grits. Both very good. My husband is Celiac and they were helpful in suggesting Gluten Free items, such as GF pancakes as a side to his omelette. We are always looking for a good place for brunch and now we have found it.
