    Bacon Jam Burger

Great burger and the Mac & Cheese was to die for. It was walking distance from my hotel so it was ideal for a simple dinner. It was very busy with a good local vibe. The service was good but, I did eat at the bar. I'll definitely go back here when I visit Blacksburg.

Jerk Chicken Philly with onion rings- delicious!

Tasty! The chicken Philly and onion rings were pretty good. The service was good as well, Ben at the bar did a great job.

Menu (Aug 2024) - zoom in for details and prices - a packed menu with lots to offer...but based on our visit, left a lot to be desired :(

Sadly this place gets just a 3 stars from me. We tried and wanted to like this place. I'm sure it's a Bburg landmark that's been around for a while - at least it looks that way. I'd say the saving grace for this place imo is that it's a pretty casual place, kid friendly and great for large parties because of its size (in a standalone building) with a jam-packed menu (2 sided but with about 3,483 things on it), easy to access from Main St (not right smack dab downtown which is a plus actually), with plentiful parking availability. And I admit, not break-the-bank prices (see my menu pics). I know, I know - from my description above, what's wrong with this place - it sounds like a great place to go. Maybe you'll have better luck or a different opinion of this place than what we experienced... For the most part, the food was pretty disappointing and lackluster. Even for the price. Hence a grade of "C" - and honestly even that is being a bit generous. :( Party of 3 - we ordered the Steak and Cheese Sandwich, the Steak Salad and the Chicken Salad Sandwich. For choice of side for both sandos, we ordered the housemade potato chips which were probably the BEST thing we had. :/ The Steak Salad was a MAJOR FAIL - I scratch my head why they even brought it out to us like that. My companion ordered her steak MEDIUM RARE because she knows, 90% of the time, cooks have no clue how to properly cook a steak so she hedges and always orders on the rare side. It was clear when it was put right in front of her that the steak was cooked WELL DONE. Even a newb would know this. See my pic. (Note to those that STILL want to order the steak salad - call 'em on it.) Aside from the steak fail, the salad was nbd - a super basic house salad. The Steak and Cheese was probably the best of the 3 entrees we ordered - and that was just okay, no great shakes. The Chicken Salad Sandwich was MY meal - you have to know that I'm always iso a decent housemade chicken salad wherever I go. So I was excited to try it out. I would give their chix salad a mid-grade review and will say that they skimped big time on how much chicken salad they put in the sandwich (see my pic). Service left a lot to be desired. I'm going to say that we were waited on by either the Manager or the Owner. It wasn't busy when we went (and it was well before the start of the school year) so there was no reason someone (even if it wasn't him) couldn't stop over or even walk by regularly to check on us. He just disappeared for most of our meal. When we were ready for our check, we had to ask someone to find him. (We still gave a 20% tip.) Even if I give this place a mulligan on the service, I would still say our visit was a sub par experience. Disappointed that the food items were nothing special. And, honestly, for the money even with more reasonable menu prices, it's clear (imo) that they're cutting corners in other ways while they can say their prices have stayed constant. So - you're paying for it one way or another. Lefty's will probably continue to do just fine because there aren't many local, reasonably priced places in Bburg which is unfortunate. And since the student community is so transient (turning over every 4 years), new crops of students and their families will roll in every year so that will continue to keep a place like this going. A clever model for a mediocre restaurant to stay in business with...without really even having to improve on being mediocre.

Tomato bisque Soup with blue cheese and a half baked ham sandwich . what a deal

Food was so fresh and well prepared. The service was amazing. The Bloody Mary to die for!

This is my WELL DONE burger.......

The fries were delicious, and the server took off the raw burg so there's that. It wasn't busy at all while we were there but the staff seemed preoccupied. We witnessed a couple wait nearly 20 minutes to get drinks in a pretty empty restaurant.

Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich & Onion Rings
    June T.

We were in town for my son's visit to a college near by and wanted to have lunch before we drove back home. When we entered we were seating with no wait. I wanted a burger while my wife ordered something lighter to the stomach which was the pimiento grilled cheese. Bacon burger was good, meat was fresh and cooked perfectly. The bread wasn't my favorite, it was a tad bit too crispy for me. Should have gotten the bun to soak up all those flavors from the meat. Fries were good, can't really mess up on fries. Wife asked me to try her pimento grilled cheese, it was too simple for me. I thought it would be more of a grilled cheese, meaning more cheese not just the pimento spread. Nothing stood out to be, but if you want a quick decent spot to eat. This is the spot. Id consider to give it another try when I'm in town.

They focus on using fresh, local ingredients from the Glade Road Growing farm as well as local vendors/producers. Along with their food/kitchen, Rising Silo creates their own brews and has quite the selection of beers on tap. The food menu isn't super extensive and they change it monthly based off what is in season. It consists of several wood fired pizzas, burgers, fries, bowls, and more. Ordering is very simple, you order at the kiosk up front, they will hand you a buzzer, it will go off when your food is ready, and you pick it up at the front where you ordered. This ambiance is relaxed and the space is super family-friendly. There is some indoor seating, but definitely more outdoor space available. They have outdoor games for people to enjoy as well. The service is good and friendly. When we visited, it was the weekend of graduation and was quite busy due to graduation parties, etc. There was a longer wait on the food, pizzas specifically, but this wasn't an issue. We were notified in advance on the wait on the pizza before fishing our order, which I appreciated. We snagged a table inside the barn space while we waited and enjoyed some "starters" and brews. To share with the table, we ordered the chips & salsa and the salted pretzel with pimento cheese. The chips & salsa consist of a large bowl of their house-made fresh salsa with mild jalapeños and a basket of chips. The salsa had more of a "minced" consistency with more finely diced tomatoes and was less chunky. The jalapeños added a slight kick and I appreciated the freshness of the salsa. The chips were warm when they were served to us, with a lot of salt. The salted pretzel came from a local vendor, Blacksburg Bagels, and was served with either pimento cheese or dijon mustard. We opted for the pimento and thought it paired well with the pretzel. The pretzel had a good texture, but more doughy/softer texture than a traditional pretzel. The pimento cheese had more prominent flavor from the red peppers, but was still quite flavorful. After sharing these items, we waited about 20-25 minutes for our buzzer with our pizzas! This wasn't a huge deal as it was super busy and we could see them making all the pizzas in front of us. The pizzas are roughly 12 inches, are made with homemade dough, and fired in a wood-fired oven. They are served right of the oven and are super fresh. We ended up ordering the Chicano Pie, Ramp Pesto Pie, and two pepperonis. Both the chicano and ramp pesto pie were monthly specials. The Chicano Pie included tomato sauce, burrata, chorizo, roasted corn, bell pepper, and cotija cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed this as it was very unque. The burrata was creamy and flavorful, the chorizo was smoky, and the corn & bell pepper added a slight sweetness. All these flavors paired very well together, creating a really great pie! The Ramp Pesto Pie had locally foraged ramp pesto, fresh mozzarella, and oyster mushrooms. This pie was also phenomenal with really bold flavors. The ramp added a strong element of onion, but it wasn't too overpowering. Accompanied by the slabs of mozzarella and mushrooms, this pie was also a hit! The pepperoni pie included tomato sauce, pepperoni, and silo blend of cheese. While this was a more simple pie, it certainly didn't lack any flavor. I appreciated that they use the cup n' char pepperonis. The pie had ample amounts of both cheese and pepperonis too. I absolutely loved all the pies we ordered and none of them fell short. Overall, Rising Silo is an awesome place in Blacksburg. The food is extremely good and I love that source their ingredients from local producers. Everything is so fresh and it is evident in the amount of flavor the food has. The star of our meal was easily the pizza, totally worth the longer-than-usual wait! I can easily say it is some of the best pizza I've had in Blacksburg. The char on the crust is perfect from the wood-fired oven. Their menu changes monthly, so look out for new pizza specials! The ambiance is great and really scenic. I truly cannot wait to return and try more. We didn't get much food, but they have a brick pizza over right in the middle of the room which is really neat. They also have finger foods like pretzels and burgers that looked good, but we went before dinner to just have a few drinks. Great variety of options too from pilsners/lagers to sours and stouts. It's not overly bright inside too which can be bothersome for me at night and it's nice to just relax and enjoy to subtle hint of light (enough to where you can see everything your doing, but not too much where you can see every other person in the room and their facial expressions). The only downside (and it could be because it's slow season) was they only had one register so at times we waited for the line to get drinks TK dwindle down before getting in line ourselves. Might've different during peak season so when we go back during warmer weather and that is the case where they have another register open, I'll be sure to update that. Overall a great time, friendly and helpful staff, and an enjoyable atmosphere!

They made me and my group feel comfortable, safe and welcomed. The property itself is quaint and sweet. We strolled through their small lavender field, visited the gift shop and a few weekend vendors selling jewelry, soaps and other goods. Everyone was warm and friendly. The bar had a wide array of wines and organized the bottles (so reasonably priced or just $7 per glass) by red, white and dry to semi-sweet or sweet. Four of us split two bottles of the semi-sweet white wine. It was given to us in a bowl of ice with plastic cups. Everyone wore masks and they sold me one for $2 (masks required for everyone interacting at the bar or inside the gift shop establishment). The white win was just sweet enough and so refreshing on the warm late June afternoon. However, it was their specialty pizza that truly made the experience extra-ordinary. Their lavender specialty pizza was phenomenal. I was blown away by the lavender-infused pizza sauce. I've never had such a unique pizza and would return just for a slice of the artisanal masterpiece. It comes topped with greens, feta, grapes, bacon (which I omitted) and a lemon balsamic. The bread itself was light and the crust was seasoned and fresh tasting. I can't say enough about this pizza. Do me a favor and try it for yourself. All in all, this was the perfect treat (and reward) for an 8-mile round trip hike. Highly recommend!

As we sat down our table was given a small sample of their house made potato chips, they were pretty good, would've been even better in some ranch! With that, the main food: I got a Chicken Caesar wrap and added bacon, honestly it was pretty good. The chicken had good flavor, it was very filling, and adding the bacon stepped it up a notch. For the cons, I wish it would've had more Caesar dressing, and the portion for the price it felt a little smaller than I was expecting. Overall a hearty wrap! I also got the 4 cheese Mac for my side. I was so excited to try it because I've heard people rave about it, but it sort of fell flat for me. If you really like a super creamy mac n cheese this is for you! I just wish there would've been a bit more flavor, some depth, for a premium side I just don't think this did it for me. Overall, great service, cute place right outside the big mall area, but I think the food is a little more average than I was hoping for. If there was an option I'd say it lands more at a 3.5 than a 3. Then again, I only got the wrap and mac, and I know they are more known for the bbq and burgers at the moment, so give those a fair chance!
