I went here once to catch up with a few of my friends outside of class and really enjoyed the casual ambiance. It felt like being at your grandparents' home and eating a home-cooked meal. There are certainly some really cool daily specials! If I had more time in Blacksburg, I would definitely return for Abby's meatloaf and give it a try. Abby's seems to have a hard time keeping servers and providing food. We have tried to eat there several times lately only to be turned away ( like at 6:15 pm) because they either ran out of food or they were just closing early. We finally got a meal there recently and I ordered the special which was roast beef. What was served to me was a plate of something that looked like dog food. In fact I did take it home and fed it to my dogs. No more Abby's for us. It's sad because we like to support local businesses. read more

Love this place. My daughter is going to VA Tech and this has become one of our go to spots when we visit from FL. I'm a sucker for places that take pride in potatoes. Abby's fries are fantastic, coleslaw is yummy, burgers that scratch the itch, pulled pork thats smoking good and my favorite is the French dip. The first time we stopped here there were about 10 cops that's stepped in to eat or get food to go. Anybody that has been around restaurants knows that they know the best places and this turned out to be a good omen. read more

Interesting experience at Abby's yesterday (Friday) evening. We walked in at 7:20pm. Before the door closed behind us, the hostess said it'll be 45 minutes before your food will be ready and we close at 8:00pm. We looked around and there were 4 people at one table and 2 at another( and they were leaving). Then she said, "I'll be happy to serve you though." Not a very welcoming experience. Best kept secret in Blacksburg. I know you've driven up Main Street and passed by the ordinary-looking building with the "dog sign" in the front. I did for three years before we ventured in -- and once we did, we kept going back. This place is as simple as you can get. Generally we would go for ANY of the specials they have to offer (a different one for each day of the week), but we got a little crazy with the menu sometimes, as well. I love this place! It is my family's new favorite restaurant! We've been about 5 times now. The food is excellent and I've tried many things . . . my kids who are picking eaters love it too! We especially love the wings, nachos, onion rings, burgers, chili, and their specials. The wait staff is incredible! This place is definitely not a cool college kid restaurant. It has more of an old alcoholic white man vibe to it, but that's why I sit in the restaurant part not in the bar area. The only food worth coming here for is the daily specials, which are excellent for the price. It's small and unpretentious but has really good food and very low prices. We chose Abby's for a quick dinner after arriving in Blacksburg based on the positive reviews here. I have to say though, I was a little disappointed that they were out of the special of the day, since that seems to be the thing to get. There is nothing fancy about Abbys, it's very stark inside, but the food is solid and the prices are good. They have a full bar which is a bonus too. I went with the Cobb salad and the chicken was hot and freshly grilled, the dressing is homemade and tasty. DH had the BBQ sandwich which he said was good but nothing special. This was my go to spot when I was going to school in Blacksburg. The waitresses always knew what I wanted since I came so often. I was one of the regulars The best specials to get in my opinion would be the roast beef days, meatloaf, and porkchops. Definitely come here if you come through, the meals are filling and affordable. I don't understand why this place gets much love from the other students in town, but I'm glad that's the case I guess. It just means there are less waits for food and it keeps being a dive. After reading the reviews here on Yelp, I decided to give it a go. I drove over with my flatmate, and we had dinner on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. The best part of the experience by far was the waitress. She was super attentive and very helpful. However, we were two out of three people eating in the restaurant overall. We ordered the special for the evening, which was fried pork chops. It comes with a good amount of meat, canned green beans on the side, and mashed potatoes and gravy. I subbed the mashed potatoes for their 'Boardwalk Style' french fries, which I think were the best part of the meal. The gravy was kind of gross, but I'm not a big fan of gravy anyway. The green beans were not to my liking, but if you are a fan of canned green beans then these would've suited you just fine. The deep fried pork chop was pretty good, but all in all the food was just bar food. The atmosphere wasn't great, and the restaurant itself is out of the way. To me, Abby's just isn't worth the trip. If you're going into town, you may as well pick a nicer/better spot. The price will be the same if you're looking for the sandwiches/bar food that Abby's offers. However, if you're looking for a quiet and out of the way spot to grab a beer and ponder George Thorogood lyrics, this is the place to be. Definitely a dive with a friendly, older waitress. read more

This place was a nice small town all-American kind of restaurant. Cheap price, but really it was cheap food too. Both my boyfriend and I got the roast beef sandwich. The gravy was a little weird and the meat was mediocre. The mashed potatoes were pretty good though. The service was ridiculously fast which was nice and the waitress was friendly. I love to eat at Abby,but today is what I call down right sorry. Stop at a Abby that I have eaten there before. Before they remodeled it the food was very good, but like everything else you fix one thing then something goes wrong. That was the food. You tell the cashier that you are eating in. Well their bag it. That not a bad thing. The bad is just about to Start. Well they mess up the order. So what then they have taken your name off the screen. So they don't know how it for . You tell them it most be your. The kicker is that your order wrong. They take the food out of the bag and in the trash it goes. This is when they take your cold greasy frys an throw them in the bag. They THROW THEM. So I did the same thing throw them in the Trash HARD. SO I guess that My Wife and I will not be STOPPING at that one no more. So this place is in the Town of Vinton Va. New Remodeled place, but the people who works there and the food they fixs. You don't put food that been under a light and greasy on or in a CUSTOMER tray or bag. That just not Right. read more

I had a pretty good lunch here. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or inside for that matter). It seems to me that it caters more to the bar crowd, but I can't be sure since I've only been there in the afternoon. I got the meatball sub (the day's special) and it was good for a meatball sub.
