Given its positive reviews and craving non-East Asian food, we stopped by HCC for dinner on our way from Houston to DC. It did not disappoint! The chicken and pork curries, beef noodle soup, and momos were not only delicious but the portions were very large- great bang for your buck. Dolma (sp?) and the chef were super nice. Will be back the next time we're in town. Support family-owned and run business! read more

Honestly very solid for the price and quantity. Decent quality and the owners are absolute chillers. Locally owned gotta shout them out and support. I had sweet and spicy pork curry, 7.5/10 very solid. read more

I like this place. Portions are huge, prices are fair. You just order at the counter. My food was ready in less than 5 minutes and I took it to-go. It's a pretty small place and very casual. The pork fried noodles cured my hangover. The mango lassi is amazing. read more

This is a very convenient small restaurant. There is plenty of seating with areas for groups of 6-8. The staff was very nice and patient as we looked over the menu. I ended up ordering the Himalayan Beef Thenthuk and Chicken Momo Dumplings. Everything was absolutely delicious. The dumplings and Thenthuk took longer to come out than any of the dishes my friends had ordered, but not by much. The bathrooms were uncomfortably hot which is the only thing keeping this from a 5-star review. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a quick, affordable, and delicious meal! read more

Curry Cafe is a super casual vibe and does not have any servers or anything, so you're just ordering from the counter. I came here for lunch with a friend and ordered the pho as well as the steamed dumplings and left very satisfied. Pricing was super fair and the food was good. I've definitely had better pho before, but it was still tasty and cheap. The dumplings were good. read more

This place has been a staple for quick and cheap food that give you decent portions. Food: Beef curry is the best thing on the menu. Chicken samosa is great as well. They give you options like sesame seeds and cilantro if you'd like Service: They are super friendly. Ambiance: Lots of open seating and usually never too crowded. Extra: Cheap with a good amount of food given. Definitely recommend. read more

Went for the first time and the atmosphere is very cozy. The cashier was friendly and helpful as I asked her for recommendations. The chicken samosa was amazing, but the pork curry was a bit bland. I definitely will come back to try more of the menu. read more

Its been 10 years since I've graduated but I still visit this place every opportunity I get - the pork curry combination with their special sauce is literally to die for. I've never been able to find a place that serves anything like it. Must visit! read more

Yummy food, cheap, and quick. A need to go when visiting Blacksburg, VA. Miss the cilantro on top though.

Hate to leave bad reviews but this was not good food. Maybe it just did not fit my taste but the smell was off. Probably more about college students looking to fill themselves but I could not eat it. Disappointing, we drive by it all the time. read more

Idk if anyone in Blacksburg has ever had actual curry before, but this is definitely not it. The sauce is super watery, and also kinda flavorless compared to curries I've had before, even bad ones. Meat is also pretty chewy. Good prices though, so if your expectations are low then it's a good deal. read more

My friend and I came here on his recommendation, and it absolutely blew me away. I would have never even considered trying a Himalayan place before, and I'm so glad he convinced me to try it. This place is set up in a fast casual food sort of way, and the menu is simple enough so that even a Himalayan-food newbie like myself can quickly figure out what to order. They have spiciness indicators to give you fair warning about what items you likely would (or wouldn't) enjoy, and I picked a more-than-medium-but-still-quite-hot dish, the chili chicken. While there wasn't enough water in the world to quench my thirst after eating this, it was still delicious and a very pleasant hot sensation, with just the right mix of spices and sauces to strike your palate the right way. The service was great and very pleasant, although I had a difficult time understanding one of the explanations of the counter person. They brought our order to our table and checked up on us later as well, quite good for a restaurant of this nature. Pricing was extremely fair given the sheer volume of chicken and rice they give you; definitely enough for two meals, even if you eat heartily like I do. A word to the wise: I love spicy food and figured I'd have no challenge here, though the food here is, to put it in a word: fiery. Again, I loved it, though it might help you to think of the mild here as medium elsewhere and their medium as pretty darn hot. With that warning out of the way, I highly recommend you give this place a shot, it's unique and unquestionably delicious! Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - EXCELLENT food. - Great portions and awesome value for the prices. - Nice service, with great table service for a fast casual place. - Plenty of parking nearby in the mall lot. Cons: - None, really. Just be warned that the spicy is truly spicy here, and when it comes to food tastes, you know what they say: you're either hot or you're not! read more

If you want homey food, THIS is the place to be! My roommate and I were craving rice-based dishes, and we found ourselves here. The menu is limited, but I think they focus on making their select dishes as good and authentic as possible. We both ordered butter chicken, and I ordered lassi. It was ready-made (there are some made-to-order dishes too though) and served to us on a styrofoam plate and plastic tray. The simple presentation might put some people off, but having had and loved street food in foreign countries (and American food trucks), this was a little slice of heaven for me. The food was absolutely delicious and so, so filling. I don't have that big of an appetite, but I honestly surprised myself by finishing the generous portions--it was that good. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

YES YES YES!! I can not drive past this place. It is so good! All of the Tibetan dishes are traditionally flavored, well made, and worthy of an experience. I would highly recommend that you stop by and order a bowl of Thenduk (its a meal) and a side of Momo's. Not all food is ethnically Tibetan, but their curry is delicious! Go ahead, grab that home-made Lassi from the fridge. Happy Eating! read more

A staple when I visit Blacksburg. The curry is a unique taste and is a large portion for the price that you pay. It is served over rice and you get it when you order They also have a house made hot sauce that pairs nicely with the chicken that you have to ask for when you pay. I usually ask for less sauce since the sauce is pretty runny. This way the rice isn't soaked in the same sauce as the chicken is. Chicken for the curry chicken is white meat! It's not the best curry ive ever had by any means but for the area, it is a good value and it is a comforting meal. read more

Great price and quantity of food but the flavor and pure taste was subpar. Their "Vietnamese" Pho does not represent how pho should taste and there were not many options to add flavorings. The butter chicken, while moist, lacked spicing and could use more flavorings as well. Good place for a cheap bite but for pure quality not so much. read more

Pretty good curry but a great serving for the price. The sweet pork curry is my go to because the pork is nice and tender. All their curries are very mild but adding their chili sauce and the dark sauce (I've never known what it is but it's really tasty with the curry) definitely kicks the curry up a few notches. When I'm hungry and looking for a cheap eat and something different I find myself coming back here. If the curry was spicier to begin with that would really kick this place up more. I find myself adding a fair amount of chili sauce, their darker sauce, and salt to get it to taste the way I want it to. But once it's all mixed together it's a great meal read more

I had a solid and satisfying meal here during a quick stop in Blacksburg, on recommendation by a friend who went to VT. The chicken fried rice was really good! I thought the sweet and spicy pork curry was pretty good too, although my friend thought the pork was a little dry. The only thing was the person working at the counter forgot to give us our pork curry, so I had to ask again (but it came out quickly). Overall, I'd recommend trying it! read more

In Blacksburg, when I was a freshman one day I noticed a shop called Himalayan curry cafe and went in because I never had Himalayan style curry before and wanted to give it a try. Now being a senior I still go to this place because it is pretty good! A lot of my friends and I absolutely love their sweet and spicy pork curry. The taste of it is pretty good, and when it covers the rice its amazing. Going to Himalayan curry they also have this unique hot sauce and a sweet soy sauce. Adding these two sauces to your curry (or anything really at this shop) makes the dish that much more amazing for me. Out of all their menu options my top 5 dishes here are the sweet and spicy pork curry, chicken biryani, vegetable curry, fried rice, and their samosa's. Beside getting their pork curry sometimes I like to get their biryani which is a flavorful rice dish. A nice addition is also their samosas which come with a green sauce. Overall, Himalayan curry cafe has really good food, and a wide selection so there is something for everyone. read more

Had high hopes and they were dashed. I often look for some good Nepali time food, but did not find it here. Me and a friend shared the butter chicken and beef/chicken momos. Butter chicken was like soup on a plate. This is not made to order (maybe this is where we went wrong). Taste was not good. Presentation bad. The dish was served on a styrofoam plate. I've never had butter chicken like this. Momos were lukewarm, lacking filling, and just not good. Restaurant could use some sprucing up, too. The staff was nice, but I came for the food and it missed the mark. read more

For how fast and easy it is to grab food at Himalayan Curry, it definitely deserves a good rating among Blacksburg restaurants. The food is filling, well-priced, and tastes good all at the same time. It's not extraordinary by normal standards, but I consider it great for Blacksburg food (respectfully). read more

GOOD COVID MEASURES They have limited seats spread out in a safe distance. It seems like most people carry out the order. SUPER QUICK SERVICE It only took maybe 5 minutes for the food to be served. If you're looking to grab something really quick, this is probably the best place! GREAT FLAVOR AND GREAT PRICING We got the sweet and spicy pork curry and the vegetarian curry. It's simple curry on rice, but the curries tasted great! They garnish their curries with cilantro so if you don't like cilantro, ask for no cilantro! Cilantro added the perfect amount of spice flavor to the curries in my opinion. The portion size and the pricing was very very reasonable. Also, the sauce they have on each table tasted great, especially with the sweet and spicy pork curry if you want a little more flavor. Their curry flavor is unique and can't find much anywhere else. Definitely give this place a try! read more

This is one of those places I frequent when I'm craving comfort food, without the hassles of cooking and cleaning up. I'm really glad they added the chicken fried rice and the chilli chicken to their menu. They're deliciously spicy with ample amounts of heat, yet entirely flavorful. I'm a huge fan of their lentil soup as well. The food is usually made to order, and so sometimes there may be instances of over cooked meat, or excess salt, but the owner is really nice and always replaces the food if I tell him the problem with it. read more

As someone who spends a lot of time finding good & filling food for affordable prices in Blacksburg, this restaurant is my go to! First time in Blacksburg and I was hungry. Was recommended to come here by a friend and I am super glad I did. I had the chicken curry served with lots of cilantro and the dumplings. The curry wasn't thick like Japanese curry and it was served with Jasmine rice? idk forgive my ignorance, but it was long grain rice. I liked the consistency of the curry and the generous portion given. The staff was very nice and the food quality made me feel like I was eating a home-cooked meal. The sauces on the tables were really good too. There is a mild soy-sauce one and a spicy/sweet sauce that brings out a lot of flavor. They also seem to serve Bingsoo here, but I did not try it read more

My friends and I stopped by on our first night in town, and the Himalayan Curry Cafe is a true revelation and gem. It is modest in many ways - small storefront, simple menu, inexpensive prices, and a single proprietor. But once we tasted the curries, we were hooked for sure. We each tried a different selection (except the veggie), which was easy since there are only four different kinds to choose from. The pork was the best, in my opinion, but the chicken and beef were very tasty as well. They are all saucy and served with basmati rice on the side, and are made even better with hoisin or garlic hot sauce that is on the table. Even the lentil soup was amazingly delicious, and the next time I stop by I'll have to try the cold Kheer (a sweet, chilled veggie mix). The best part is that everything was a straight $5.50, with the lentil soup and Kheer being $3.00. Did I mention this place was super cheap? I did about three times, but it's worth another mention. We didn't spend more than 8 bucks apiece and we were so full afterwards. I think this may become a go-to spot for us every time we head to Blacksburg. read more

This is a great place. Very nice people at the counter. They weren't super-busy, but had a fairly steady stream of customers. The Samosas are gargantuan and they taste great without the sauce. Their green sauce put it at the next level. The Biryani was very flavorful and the perfect amount of spicy. Our lips and gums were tingling. Do watch our for the bones though -they leave them in for this recipe. The chicken was awesomely tender though. Today, we were making a run to several places for dinner, but that curry looked extremely tempting too. If we every make it back through Blacksburg, this will be a required stop. read more

This curry reinvigorates my life and soul. It lights a passion in my stomach and my heart. I shed a tear for every day that I do not indulge in this sacred feast. I would definitely recommend this deliciousness to anyone who has never laid curry on their delicate tongues, because this is something that will fill that void in your life. I REALLY wanted to love this little restaurant and tried it because of the great Yelp reviews. The food is good, but not great and certainly not worth a 5-star rating. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but after having really great curry in several Asian and Middle Eastern countries I know what I like and this wasn't it. The food is simple, bland, and uninspired, but portions are generous and the price is low. I had the lentil soup and vegetable curry (Yes, I'm a crazy vegetarian) and both were ok -- again, uninspired and bland. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly and efficient, but I won't be returning. read more

My husband and I tried this place for the first time after reading so many good reviews and were very disappointed. Beef curry was bland. Fried noodles with chicken were mushy and had very little meat. Lentil soup was a broth with no lentils in it. The best part was the samosas which were fair. The server was also unfriendly and indignant when we didn't get our entire order. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but we came early when food should be fresh and only one other customer was in the restaurant. read more

My nepali boyfriend and I went here for dinner and went back for lunch. We ordered spicy chicken curry and chung king chili. Overall, the place is really nice and my boyfriend said that the decoration is pretty authentic. The food is good and the curry is not so strong (both taste and smell). We also ordered chili chicken and he said that you could find the same taste in Nepal. The momos, however, was ordinary--nothing special. read more
