This is one of the few restaurants that can very well be deceiving. On the outside it is clean, with an impressive name and logo, and a nice dining room that isn't being used. A lady up front takes your order and all seems like everything will go well and you will have and excellent dining experience. That is, until the food arrives. At the ordering counter I ordered their most expensive item on the menu: Steak & Scallops Hibachi. And two Egg Rolls, and requested to dine in. As I waited for the food to arrive I had very high expectations on how good the food would be. And was looking forward for it to arrive so I could enjoy it. But when I was called to the counter to go pick it up, I had no idea of what a surprise I would get. At first when I opened the container where it came in, all looked nice and delicious. But when I started eating the fried rice didn't taste fresh. It was dry and felt and tasted like it was reheated. Then when I tasted the steak, it tasted like spoiled meat. I couldn't believe what I was eating. The mushrooms were not cooked well and some were even cold. And the slices of zucchini had stains on their skins. The egg rolls were dry. Like if they had been fried ahead of time and reheated. But the worst was the steak. It tasted like rotten meat. I couldn't believe it nor couldn't finish eating it. Just threw it away and left the restaurant. When I got home I brushed my teeth and washed my mouth to get rid of that horrible flavor from the rotten meat. What else I got I can only describe by having to run to the toilet. I don't like to write negative reviews, but in this case I feel obligated to do so, because of the spoiled food they are serving there and their lack of cooking knowledge. Was visiting Roanoke for the day and decided to stop here on my way home. I wanted to build my own bowl, but that was not available. I ordered the veggie lo mein special combo which came with fried rice and spring rolls. The lo mein was delicious!! However, I was really disappointed by the "fried rice". It was just yellow rice with onions. There were no veggies or eggs like usual fried rice. The spring rolls were good too. Service was quick. Dining area was empty, I was the only person there. Wasn't bad, was just disappointed by the rice, I wish I had gotten just the lo mein instead. read more

I am always on the prowl for good Generals Tso's Chicken since my favorite restaurant closed due to Covid (in Massachusetts). I called in my order to AGOGO and it was ready in 10 minutes. Picked up and had to drive back to my hotel and it was still hot. The taste...great! Saucy, most have minimal sauce and just the right amount of spice. This place was not for me at all. I might try it one more time just to be sure but that's a real REAL iffy might. Walking in the day of our visit the TV was up obnoxiously loud playing cartoons. It was obvious that the child alone in one of the booths in the dining room was a family member of the staff, this was later confirmed by him going in and out of the employee area - in fact two children (one in a diaper) kept going in and out of the kitchen without adult supervision. The food was very meh - mine was tasteless and needed tons of sauce to even be worth choking down, it was all cold and I got so little steak I'd advise against anyone ordering that as their protein. The woman that waited on us looked/acted bored and annoyed as she and rushed us through our choices despite the fact we made it clear we had never bee to Agogo before. Not once did the staff that passed by us several times as we sat and ate ask us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our visit, dining room could have been cleaner... everything about this experience was so lackluster it is not worth me typing anymore words. read more

We recently moved to Roanoke and have not been able to have decent Asian Food. My husband wanted to give this place a try and it was surprisingly delicious. Just an FYI- they no longer serve the pick your own bowls. We ordered Singapore Mei Fun, Udon Noodles and Chinese Donuts. They were all flavored well and none of the dishes disappoint. I love their donuts since we ate them just as they came out. They look a little like beignets. They were warm, light and airy on the inside, nicely fried on the outside. It's coated with regular sugar but they don't drench it so it's not overly sweet. A lot better than the donuts you get from the franchise stores. We were extremely satisfied with all the dishes. The food here is AMAZING. We wish we would've tried it sooner. I got the hibachi steak which quite literally melted in my mouth. The portions are a great size. I tried AGOGO for the first time today, finally, and I'm happy to say it was really good. I'm not sure why, but it was a little intimidating and overwhelming ordering for the first time. I had a plan in mind when I got there of what I wanted and when it was time to order, I totally drew a blank and got something totally different from what I went in there planning to get. Haha! I went with rice noodles, grilled chicken, zucchini, peppers/onions, cabbage, sesame seeds, and hot sauce. It was the most random things I probably could have thrown together, but it was tasty! The hot sauce was delicious and thankfully brought the rice noodles (she warned me several times that they didn't have any flavor) to life. Good choice! I'm excited to try different meats and combinations since there are a lot of different options you can throw together. At a little over $8.00, I think it was perfectly affordable and fairly priced for the portions you get. It was a pretty good sized meal! We had soups (hot and sour & wonton) huge portions of both. Also had Spicy Garlic Beef & Kung Pao chicken. This was by far the most flavorful Chinese food we have had in the Roanoke area. Honestly the two of us could have split 1 soup and 1 entree and been completely full. When we order spicy food, we usually ask for extra spicy, with these dishes, we didn't have to do that. Really good, affordable food. You can choose every item/topping, so it's great when you've got a picky eater or you're counting macros. Their kimchi is surprisingly good, and the sauces are great! For around $8-9 you get a big bowl filled to the brim! 1 First pick your carb/base. They have egg noodles, rice noodles, fried rice, white rice. Lots of options. 2 Second, pick your protein. They have red meat + chicken + shrimp prepared in different sauces, I can't eat red meat so I've only had the chicken, and all the chicken options I've tried are really good! 3 Third, pick your veggies and toppings. They have things like sautéed zucchini, broccoli, onions and peppers. It's all good, not overly cooked, still nice and crunchy. The toppings are classic garnishes like green onions, crunchy onions, sesame seeds, etc. 4 Last, pick your sauces and any sides you'd like. Their gyoza is super good and super cheap! And their kimchi is my favorite in Roanoke so far. And their soy sauce isn't just plain soy, it's a sweet and tangy mix and it's so freaking good poured over and mixed into your bowl. We have eaten here several times now and the food is consistently fresh, the portions are generous, and the price is excellent. We are always greeted warmly as well. My husband enjoys the meat choices, and I'm all about the veggies. I think they do a large amount of take out business as we haven't encountered an overly crowded restaurant yet. Went on the day it opened, Valentine's day, and several times since. The staff is friendly! The food is usually warm (sometimes cold, but I prefer warm food. It's my only critique of the place.) usually there is c-pop or k-pop music videos playing. Overall, a fun experience and good service, as well as good food. *please keep in mind that their meats aren't the traditional "general tso" or "sesame chicken" they're different. It's unique in its own way. EDIT: this review was written when the restaurant first opened. I've been back many times since and their food isn't cold, so please keep that in mind. It probably was when it first opened because traffic was lower. The staff is still lovely to work with and the food is still reasonably priced (around 8$ for a make your own bowl).
