My wife and I were on the road about 3 hours into a 7 hour drive and we were starving. She had been craving Chinese food for about a week so I told here to grab her phone, hit Yelp and pic a place. Golden Wok it was. We had to turn around and head back about seven miles but it was worth it. When we walked in we were greated and helped right away. The portions were generous and the flavor was excellent. My wife got white rice and it was nice and sticky and not crunchy. I got pork fried rice and was full of flavor. The Won Ton soup was very flavorful as well. I really don't think you can go wrong here. I know we have only been here once, but we will make a stop in here again in our travels.

I don't really know how else to say this: Not good. It's generic low-quality Chinese food. The place itself is weird and the food is about as uninspired as it comes. There was hardly any chicken in my kids' sweet and sour chicken - it was all bread. They didn't eat the sweet and sour sauce because it was gross. There's bound to be better options around - any of them HAVE to be a better choice.

The employees at Golden Wok are pleasant and friendly. They are a small, yet efficient, family run operation of three. It is a pleasure to watch them fry tasty morsels in flaming hot woks. The Hunan beef has a rich flavor that comes from its savory Shaoxing wine sauce. I recommend the curry beef, chicken, or shrimp with onion or Singpore mei fun rice noodles as they both explode with delicious curry spices. My only complaint about the Singpore mei fun is its listing as a spicy hot item when it actually isn't in the slightest. However, they make a homemade hot pepper sauce that can be used to enhance the spiciness of your meal. This is better than the vinegary hot sauce they offer in little packets. The prices are cheap, and depending on how much you spend, you can get a free item ranging from a can of soda all the way up to a qt. of sweet and sour chicken. I will be returning to this hole-in-the-wall when I get a hankering for Chinese takeout!

Best Chinese food I've had in Roanoke. I got the beef and broccoli and wonton soup, and it was all delicious.

My only displeasure is that their General Tso's and Honey Chicken uses chicken strips rather than chunk chicken pieces, which makes it a bit tough at times.

I then enjoyed the Brutus Caesar with salmon. Everything was flavorful and delicious and the salmon was succulent and fresh. I'll start with the positive because the food truly deserves recognition. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The wings were some of the best I've had in a long time. They were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in a sauce that had the perfect balance of flavor without overpowering the chicken. Every bite was delicious, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. The BBQ was just as impressive. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor without being overly salty or dry. You could tell it had been cooked with care. The sides complemented the meal well, making for what should have been an excellent dining experience. If I were judging on the food alone, this would easily be a five-star restaurant. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the overall experience. From the moment we were seated, it felt like we were forgotten. It took an unusually long time before anyone came to take our drink order, and after our food arrived, our server was rarely around. Drinks sat empty for extended periods, and we had to look around multiple times just to get someone's attention. What made it even more frustrating was the waiter "groaned" when we asked for a refill. We waited far longer than necessary for simple things like refills, checking on our meal, and eventually getting the check. There was very little communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to make sure we were enjoying our visit. Great service can elevate a meal, while poor service can overshadow even the best food. That's exactly what happened here. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing, and the quality of the wings and BBQ is reason enough to visit. However, the front-of-house experience needs significant improvement. Friendly, attentive, and timely service should match the quality of the food being served. Of all the times we ate here this by far where the worst service we have ever had. Most of the time the service is impeccable. Tonight it fell short, I always usually leave a tip, but tonight was different. I could bring myself to leave a tip on such poor service. I genuinely hope The Fishin' Pig addresses these issues because the restaurant has tremendous potential. The food is absolutely worth recommending, especially the wings and BBQ, but customers shouldn't have to endure poor service to enjoy a great meal. Until the service improves, it's difficult to give this restaurant the rating the food alone deserves.

One always has a delightful dining experience here. Today, I decided to dine there on the way to going to watch the Actic Productions musical of Into The Woods which was being performed at the D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center in Fincastle, Virginia. I arrived soon after they had opened at four in the late afternoon. A friendly young lady greeted me at the Host's station right at the entrance of the restaurant and after asking me where would I prefer to seat, took me to the table of my choice. Studying the menu it was not easy to choose what to get from the great variety of dishes. But by the time my sever Kaylee arrived with a big smile and welcoming attitude I had made my decision. I would start off with a Mojito Mocktail to drink. As appetizer I ordered their Coconut Shrimp, followed by a House side salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. And as my main entrée, their 8oz Filet cooked medium-rare. I asked the server for the items to be spaced out and to have the salad before the main entrée. The Mojito Mocktail tasted wonderful. As I was enjoying it a young gentleman server assistant brought me the Coconut Shrimps and they looked amazing. They were enormous in size, very crispy on the outside and fresh and moist in the inside. One of the best that I have ever had. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. Then came the salad which also looked and tasted wonderful. Almost right after bringing me the salad, they brought me the main entrée of the Filet cooked to perfection with a loaded Baked Potato. I don't like when this happens, but the food was so good that I patiently ate it and then asked to speak to the manager. There was no manager on site but the person in charge of the kitchen came to see me and I explained the concept of timing to him as a constructive criticism, letting him know that everything was so exquisite that I was not upset, just wanted him to know so that in the future when this is corrected both the other customers and I could have a more pleasant dining experience and enjoy our food better. For dessert I had their Strawberry Shortcake and it was amazingly delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream in the middle. This was the Grand Finale of an excellent meal. The incident of the timing, suddenly didn't seem to matter that much because they took my feedback gracefully and I was able to teach them a lesson in fine dining. In conclusion I continue to highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to returning to try one of their other amazing items from their menu.

That being said, my husband ordered the fried seafood platter and according to him the breading was too heavy for his liking. My daughter (who does not like seafood) ordered chicken tenders. I believe they may use the same flour mixture to dredge both the chicken and the seafood, because her chicken tenders tasted very "fishy." I got the crab legs, which were delicious. However, they do not offer real butter so that was a bit disappointing. The things I did enjoy about this place: The decor was very nice. I love the murals on the walls. We did not have to wait for a table as there is plenty of seating. Everything felt very clean. Our waiter was wonderful. He was very kind, attentive, and accommodating. I think that considering this restaurant is in the mountains, it is a fine place to get seafood. If you are used to eating seafood on the coast, you may be disappointed.

I'm a fan of a Connecticut style roll (hot buttered lobster roll) so this was on my must-try list.
