This place was just down from where we stayed. The first night we passed by on our way to another place but noticed lots of cars and thought it must be good. The next day we saw lots of cars again and thought the same thing. This place was very clean and the food was fresh. You don't see many buffets with egg foo young on them. It had the gravy to add and was really good. Green beans were nice & crispy as was the crab rangoons. My only criticism would be the fish. Tasted like Mrs. Paul's. Had dinner one night while in town, this place is busy. Its a buffet and thats what draws most of the people the night of my visit. Thats not my style, but I still wanted Chinese food something simple. So I ordered off the menu. A traditonal old school Americanized Chinese restaurant inside and out. While traveling to Roanoke I was staying across the street from Red Palace Restaurant. I was hesitant about eating off the buffet. My server encouraged me to try it. They do have a large selection to choose from. I tried a little bit of everything. The hot and sour soup was good. In my opinion, I should have ordered off the menu. We were staying overnight close to the airport after a quick weekend and needed dinner. The receptionist at the hotel told us she had many people tell her the restaurant across the street (literally walked over) was actually quite a good buffet. I'll start with the fact that there was hand sanitizer at every end of each buffet table! The waitstaff was very kind and extremely attentive to any needs we had. The food was quite good and the variety was outstanding. Also very impressive was the constant attention by the staff to freshen food and check in trays. It was so good and such a beautifully decorated dining room and entryway. It was peaceful as we ate, and so so enjoyable. We would happily eat here anytime! read more

I have generally enjoyed Red Palace as long as I don't have any interaction with management. I just recently started coming back to Red Palace a few weeks ago and felt comfortable being there again. Until I found a bug in my food. This most recent visit I had a big part of a bug roll out of the yellow noodles onto my fork. I didn't want to disturb any of the other customers so I discreetly brought it to the staff's attention and recommended they change out the pan. Even after quietly explaining that there was half of a dead grub or caterpillar on my plate and that the other half might still be in the pan of noodles at the hot bar, they charged me for my food, even though I lost my appetite pretty soon after arriving. In late 2021 I stopped going to Red Palace after I was aggressively confronted by a manager after taking off my mask to eat. 3 years passed before I felt comfortable going back and giving it another try. Hands down a loyal favorite - been coming here for years and consistently blown away by the amazing food and top-notch service!

The look is standard Chinese, nothing special. We have been several times, during lunch, early and late. Every time, the food has been overcooked. Dumplings have very dry, overdone meat. General Tso's chicken was so overdone, the meat was hard. The only dish which was edible was the beef and broccoli. However, the service was great! Very polite and attentive to detail. This place is great for a Chinese buffet. I did not explore their traditional menu options, but the all you can eat option is cheap and everything I tried was delicious. Usually I stay away from buffets but this place had great reviews compared to what I've seen. The service was great. I got there a little late asked if I was still able to do the buffet, if not I'd just take a normal menu. He kindly let me in to eat until the staff started cleaning up. It turned out to be a good while. My friend who I traveled here to Roanoke with showed up late and was still able to get the buffet deal. Since I came close to the end of the buffet, some options were a little low. But there were more than enough crab rangoons, fried rice, and fried shrimp. I got the last of the lo mein. I don't have a complaint about anything! For $12.99 to be able to eat all my favs, this place is great! Usually my smorgasbord from takeout Chinese costs me about $50. It is more food that way, of course, but sometimes you just want one meal. Typically, buffet food is low quality. But I see why this place had good reviews. Great food, great price, and wonderful service with a big smile. Seriously, the server was the best! Once they were about to clean up, he triple checked we didn't want anymore food. I have always loved Red Palace, but the last two times we've been there have been disappointing. The dumplings were dry, and the filling was overdone. The cheese wontons were dry inside. This place put our local restaurant to shame. It was really good. The orange chicken wings were my favorite but everything was good. We always go for the salad and fruit first and I will say they could have had more types of lettuce available. Torn up a bit more. The dishes were numerous to choose from. Lots of desserts also. The Red Palace is just that kind of place. Not the majestic architecture of the restaurant building, nor the elegant and impressive entrance statues and decoration, nor even the great selection of items in the buffet menu, could compare to the satisfaction I experienced by eating the first bite of the food I had served myself from the buffet. It was chicken on a stick. The quality of the chicken was superb, cooked just right, and served fresh. It krackled to the bite and was juicy and tasty inside. What a wonderful dining experience! Good was great. My husband doesn't really like any Asian food and he really enjoyed all of the choices given. My three year old loved the chicken. I'm from Illinois, picking up a big truck in town tomorrow. My plane got in later tonight. This place down the street from my hotel. 8:50 pm. So hungry. Walked in, place closed at 9. I asked for a go bucket? They were so nice- so gracious. They were beginning to tear down the buffet. They allowed me to gawk for a minute. The nice lady pointed at the pork ribs that were left. Against my better judgement I grabbed them along with poundage of other favorite staples. They don't weigh your bucket here like most. Same price as the buffet if you can fit it in the bucket. I had a pile now, and the nice man helped me pin the lid shut with a big fatass rubber band while I used my basic strength pushing on the lid to hold it all in there. It was 9 pm. Food had been out a while. Anyone would agree that's not the nest time for the dishes to be showing their best. I didn't care. Hotel room. I scarfed, and gnawed and chewed on my pike for like 30 minutes. I was so stuffed. I just woke up and discovered my tongue slathering up and down the pork ribs to get every last drop of that fantastic sauce they use on the ribs. It was dark, Smokey, sweet, PERFECTLY VIRGINIA. It was all so delicious. Thank you guys for getting a hungry customer filled back up. I was pretty shocked at the price as well. Very reasonable. I live in IL. While most of the food is in line with what you would find at most Chinese buffet places, I do look forward to enjoying the crawfish and the coconut shrimp. Not a massive selection of tasteless garbage but a limited selection of tasteful inexpensive food! Everything I tried IMO was flavorful & fresh. The salmon wasn't over cooked and melted in my mouth. The hot & sour soup had the right amount of sourness. Nothing was bland. Nothing was luke-warm. My water stayed filled and my dirty dishes were quickly cleared. No complaints here!
