The momo chicken chat was amazing and lived up to the hype. Soooo good. Must order. The tandoori chicken was also excellent. Many places I have this dish it simply comes out a little bland, but this one definitely felt like it had a char grilled flavor on it that comes from the tandoori oven. The chicken tiki masala was just OK. I've had much better elsewhere. We did get a couple of dishes at a four out of five level spice. Even at four level spice, it wasn't all that spicy. If you like, medium to hot spice salsa, I would order the five level. read more

Returning to this now more established restaurant, the service experience is smoother. The menu remains diverse and mouthwatering. Having said that, the portion sizes are such that when I ordered a small soup and a biryani, I finished only half the biryani. They have large takeout containers and everyone else was asking for a to-go box as well. Being next to a university, I think offering large portion sizes is probably a good decision to attract the college crowd. Their lentil soup was quite hearty, and asking for it spicy yielded a considerable burn. My biryani had some cauliflower that I didn't want, but also an intriguing mix of ingredients that I did want, including some small beans and occasional paneer chunks. If you are visiting Blacksburg, come visit this place and you'll be saying g "Namaste right here". Right on Main Street at the corner this pace offers some delicious Indian cuisine. There is also a bar area for some adult drinks and outside seating. Service is as of good. We had the chicken tandoori, which comes with rice and also ordered a veggie plate. read more

We went at a very crowded time (6pm)- but we got seated in due time :) It was very loud but that's understandable because they were absolutely packed. The workers were very enthusiastic as well! The food took a good minute to come out (like a while really), and it was generally cooked really well- however I felt the salt was slightly lacking which downgraded my experience slightly. Great spot downtown with delicious food--full of flavor and good portions. We tried the pan-fried chicken momos (tender, juicy and loved the sauce), the mixed chaat and chicken tikka masala which had a nice smoky flavor. Garlic naan was solid and their cosmopolitan was on point too. Service was slow, but to be fair, they just opened a month ago. Hopefully they add more staff soon. read more

We went to Namaste for an early dinner. The place was quiet when we got there but people started arriving shortly and they got busy. The options were a little overwhelming until we realized that you were ordering meat in a style. So we selected two styles and then put chicken with one and lamb with the other. Then we had to select the heat level. The chicken was so well cooked - moist and easily cut. The lamb was very good as well. When served it looked like small portions but they filled you up. We also got the garlic naan and very happy we did to break up the rich sauces. They also can deal well with allergies. I was told that they had all the sauces made without nuts (their butter sauce is made with cashews) so I want to go back to try butter chicken. read more

I'm typing this review as I'm feasting on my delicious leftovers (they reheat SO well). My partner and I have been eyeing this restaurant since it opened downtown and we are so glad it's here. We came down for an early lunch about 20 minutes after they opened, we were greeted and sat down at a booth. The restaurant was very big with booth seating around the perimeter and larger tables in the center. Our server brought us water and complementary papadam with a brown and green sauce (not sure what it was, but they tasted very nice together). After looking through the menu, our server took our order and asked how hot we would like our dish from 1-5. We got all of our dishes 3-4 in spicy range and it was a nice kick for someone who is a fan of spice. Our chili chicken came out shortly after ordering, then the butter chicken momo, then our lamb biriyani about 10 minutes later with a side of naan bread and yogurt sauce. We absolutely devoured the chili chicken together and shared the lamb biriyani and butter chicken momo. We ended up taking about half the biriyani, momo, and naan bread home which made a perfect dinner. Before tip, our meal was about $55 which we considered reasonable especially with the quality and flavor of the food. Regarding service, the wait staff were terse, kind, and attentive. Whenever our water glasses were empty, they were there with the pitcher. The only thing I noticed was that it took our waiter a little longer to get us our check and takeout boxes despite the restaurant being not too busy, but that was really no issue for us. Overall, we loved Namaste Kitchen and will certainly be coming back! I think they will be a great part of Blacksburg and I'm looking forward to seeing their future success. read more

I went here since there was traditional thali advertised on the menu. Maybe I have been spoiled from having traditional thalaki thali in Mustang. It was a tad disappointing. Dal, aloo and saag was not plentiful or flavorful as hoped. The paneer masala was also disappointingly salty and upset my stomach. I will try it again sometime and order different items that have been highly rated such as the momos. Wait staff was not welcoming or warm except for the kind lady who took my payment. Ambiance is great. I hope the place does well but really needs to train wait staff for better service. read more

Before you go to Namaste Kitchen, be warned. Went to Namaste recently and was not just disappointed but, infuriated by the whole experience. The service is painfully slow (to be expected with a new restaurant), but that's not the issue. When we did get seen, the waiter was *extremely* rude. If you try to order anything at the lowest level of spice, the waiter will question if you're "a man" or call you a "child" or tell you that the food "will not taste good." All three happened. If you want to emphasize some kind of authentic experience, that's fine, but don't insult your community when they order the things you offer. The waiter made it clear that everything was pre-prepared, so allergen restrictions could not be accommodated, despite their menu claiming to offer dietary-friendly options. I then saw the waiter make fun of the allergen request to another waiter. Why do I write this? Because I don't want to see a VT department take a job candidate there, only for their candidate to be insulted. I don't want to see a person have a date/anniversary there, only to be embarrassed by rude waitstaff. I don't want to see someone with dietary restrictions inquire about options with the waiter (which the menu says to do), and be made to feel inferior. I was really excited about this new addition to our community, but I no longer feel comfortable supporting them. read more

The food was great in taste and spice level. They were able to get the spice levels correct for two different orders. Hamro kitchen never got this correct. Therefore, they get an A pulse for food. Service is an F grade. They presented the appetizer at the same time as one ordered entree. The second entree and bread did not arrive for another 20 minutes. Patrons expect the appetizer and then in about 15 -20 minutes all entrees delivered at the same time. Refills on drinks did not happen unless you flagged someone down and that itself was a struggle as no one seemed to have responsibility for the table. We saw the waiter, who did not introduce himself, when we ordered and when it was time to pay the bill. Not once did the waiter check to see if the food was correct or if we needed any additional items. There seemed to be enough waiters in the building but they were not organized in a way that makes a restaurant run properly. There was diffusion of responsibility which created chaos. The ambiance is also an F grade. The noise level is so bad one cannot hear the person sitting across the table directly in front of them. There are no sound absorbing material in the building so you feel like you are in an old rough bar. Definitely not a fine dinning experience. read more

We went on a Sunday evening and they were busy, but not crowded. We were seated immediately and ordered chai and chicken momos. Both were delicious. For the main course, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Shrimp Curry. All were very tasty. My wife said the Saag was maybe the best she had ever had, and we have eaten Indian food all over the world. The only downside was the Kheer was mediocre. Overall a great experience. Service is slow, food came out at different times. Some members of my party waited 30 min for their food after one other entree came out. We had rotating wait staff, so never a clear person to help us. We saw people come in after us and yet their food was served long before we were able to flag someone for attention. Pretty sure our order was only half put in for the kitchen staff. Food was ok. We probably won't go back. I wonder about the longevity for a place in a college town at this price point. read more

Been here a few time now and we're officially done with it. It's been busy ever time we've visited. Not sure how long it will take for the novelty to ware off. Food wast just okay probably 3.5 but the rest of the experience her was horrendous. From bus boys wheeling noisy carts around the dining room and busing tables like a percussion section in a bizarro orchestra. There is never a host to greet you. Dirty glass, dirty dishes dirty bathrooms...can only imagine what the kitchen situation looks like . Maybe it changes for the better. Maybe not. Maybe something better will open here in the future. Honestly had such a terrible experience which was so disappointing since I was really looking forward to the food. When you go to a restaurant you would think the obvious order of courses would be drinks, appetizers, entree, and dessert. To start off we ordered the Namaste chai which chai is supposed to be hot but we received lukewarm almost cold tea which when we told the server he tried to tell us it's hot as if the person drinking it cannot tell the difference between hot and lukewarm--he literally dipped his finger into the tea of finally agree that it was lukewarm and then give us another cup that was much better. Another thing was we received all of our entrees and then received our appetizers after our main entrees were eaten, which makes no sense. When we told our server it just seemed like they didn't care for feedback. Another issue is items we ordered as part of our appetizers never arrived--even though we asked about it multiple times. It got to a point where we had completed the entirety of our meal that it made no sense to wait for an appetizer. Like I get it working in the food industry isn't easy but there has to be some level of professionalism which definitely seemed to be lacking. Like it was hard to flag down a server, our server kept disappearing, we spent 15+ minutes after our meal was done waiting for the bill. It got to a point where I had to get up to the main host/hostess desk to flag them down to get me the bill. Honestly was a very disappointing experience. To add to all that the food was actually very mediocre and lacking in flavor, the rice was definitely days old (you can tell when rice is reheated), the garlic naan had a burnt aftertaste, the kadhai chicken literally tasted of just fennel, no other flavor at all, and the tandoori mix was cold so you couldn't really experience and taste the true essence of what is tandoori. Not sure if we just had a bad experience or this is just the quality to expect but not sure I'll be back. read more
