Chicken Jalfrezi (spicy) with jasmine rice, naan bread, and Somoza's
    Martin P.

Well. I was skeptical, but I tried it anyway. Boy, what a pleasant surprise!! So, it's a gas station. Yes, but the Indian food we tried is as good as any. You have to try their somosa's. Devine comes to mind. We also got some chicken jalfrezi. Spicy but not too overbearing. Chicken was nice and tender and the veg, peppers and onions were crisp and crunchy. Really good. The 3 men behind the counter (brothers maybe?) we're very nice and courteous. I'm still in shock about this unassuming gas station/eatery. Will 100% return. And so should you!!

Paneer and chicken (butter) with naan and onion bhaji.

Delicious Indian food, very authentic and reasonable price. Service great, friendly staff, pleasant dining area (ambiance). Found our new dinner spot, to eat in or take out.

The chicken tikka was amazing. 10/10 recommend this restaurant! Great service! Can't wait to try something new the next time.

The service was amazing and welcoming but the Indian food left more to be desired. I love Indian food but it was bland and almost tasteless!

Everyone was super friendly from the hostess, waitervl etc. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala at spice level 4, and it was absolutely delicious. The spice level was perfect for me--definitely had some heat without being overwhelming. My husband ordered the House Special Chicken Biryani, which included both lamb and chicken, and he really enjoyed it. I'd say his dish was closer to a spicej that's level 3. Before our meal, we were served complimentary crackers and chutney, which were fantastic and a great introduction to the flavors we would enjoy throughout dinner. One thing that really stood out was the portion size. The servings were enormous! These days, with grocery and gas prices being what they are, it's refreshing to find a restaurant that gives you so much food for your money. We both had plenty left over to take home. Great food, generous portions, and a wonderful first Indian food experience. We'll definitely be back!

We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering and I was instantly in love with the decor and the friendliness of both the host and server. We began with water to drink, me skipping a mango lassi because I had decided I would have a dessert today since it had been awhile. My friend was a newbie to Indian food so I ordered for us and kept it simple. Palak Paneer and Chicken Mango Jalfreezie, with garlic naan. The papadoms and sauce were tasty and always a nice nibble while we wait for our dishes. Everything arrived hot and fresh and nicely presented. We were advised if we needed more rice to just ask. This is when the disappointment hit for me. While both dishes were good food, cooked well and nicely presented, the true Indian flavors were missing. I also did not detect mango in the dish that should have been flooded with that flavor. I do order my dishes mild, but I always do, and while that does impact the heat which I cannot tolerate, it has never once impacted the full flavor of all the spices. Until here. So sad, as someone who almost craves those flavors and had been looking forward to them all day. I've gone back and forth as to whether to give three or four stars, because everything really was nice but if I go to an Indian restaurant I really am hoping for Indian flavor. It was missing. If I could give 3.5 I would. My big question is always, would I return? I will not. I live in High Point and will continue to dine at the numerous Indian spots near home.

I loved the Indian music they had playing in the background as well. For entrees we got paneer tikka masala and Malai kofta, both were savory. I will say if you like your spicy foods I'd aim up higher on the spice level and start at a 4/5. We got various naans as well, like the bullet naan and cheese naan and butter naan. Our waitress also bought out an assortment of chutneys as well and a plate of onions and lemons and chilis. Overall it was a great experience! They do have a lunch buffet special for $9.99! Plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant and in the shopping center it's nestled in.

I ordered some chickpeas and bread, not knowing the chickpeas already came with bread. That said, the thin, grilled, potato-filled bread is delicious when done right, which it was here. My chickpeas were delivered in a tomato-y preparation and provided needed substance to get me through the day. It's the sort of family run place where the kids were hanging out (perhaps a snow day for them). I could imagine them offering more on the market side, but the food I got was a good deal and I saw enough vegetarian options to be worth coming back.

For some time now, I've been looking forward to eating here because I've been hearing many good things about this restaurant, that had been open for less than a year now. When we arrived it was already dark outside, but during this time of the year it gets dark early. The restaurant was well lit from outside and its sign on the small parking lot was lit from inside and had photos of some of their food. It also mentioned that their food was Halal quality. This means that it did not contain pork. Inside, the place was clean and decorated very simple with large size poster prints of photos from some of the cultures of the food and cuisine served here. The dining room was on the left of the building and had booths along the left wall and two persons tables and chairs as well. The owner and host came out and greeted us with a warm welcome, handing us copies of the menu which was very well designed with glossy photos next to the food entrées listed there. This was very helpful because it gave a visual sense of the food, of which many I didn't know, making it easier to order. To drink there were some large display refrigerators full of different drinks for us to reach and get one. To start with since this was our first time eating there, the owner brought us bowls of their Chicken Soup from thebAppetizers section in the menu. This soup was amazingly delicious. Simply the best Children Soup that I have ever had. I urge you to view the photographs that I took to accompany my review and you will get a better sense of it deliciousness. For it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Then we decided to get several dishes to share among all of us imitating the culture of the cuisine. Among the entrées we ordered were: The Fresh Lamb Tikka Kabab, the Bulani kachalo, Chicken Beryani, the Qurma Potatoes, Chick Pea, Eggplant, Salad Afghani Style Plate Mix, and some Special bread. All the food looked wonderful and tasted even better. For dessert we had the Sherpayra (Milk Fudge) and Afghan Mixed Cookies with a cup of a Special Tea. Afterwards we took a tour of the Grocery, on the right side of the building, and observed all the items available, from foods, to rugs, to jewelry, to an indefinite variety of Afghan items. I highly recommend this restaurant as one of a kind, of its kind. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, the food was amazingly delicious, and the service provided was very welcoming and friendly. I definitely think we should all support this new restaurant and tell our friends about it. I know I will enthusiastically.

The other dishes had good flavor, but a couple things missed the mark for me. The samosa chaat was solid, but the texture felt like it had been sitting for a while -- it was extra mushy and didn't have the freshness I was hoping for. The cauliflower dish was similar; the inside was very soft/mushy and there was quite a bit of breading compared to the actual cauliflower. Overall, still a solid meal and I'd give this place 4 stars based on this experience. That said, having recently tried Taza and Curry/Noodle, I personally preferred those spots more from my experience. I'd still be open to coming back and trying other dishes.

After looking at the menus for a few places, Shukkranaa seemed worth a gamble. The menu boasts everything you'd expect (curries, biryanis, breads, plenty of vegetarian dishes), and under other circumstances, I'd be all over the chicken 65. However, I wanted to give one of their quick lunch specials a try. Available in vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions, the offerings change daily, but they include an appetizer, two curries, salad, rice, bread, and a dessert. At $13 veg/$15 non-veg, that seemed like a good deal for the money. I placed an online order for that day's vegetarian special (paneer kadhai and daal makhani), and it was ready when I arrived. Though Shukkranaa's location (a strip mall near a motel up 68) screams "nondescript," the interior seemed more inviting, and the gentleman at the register was polite. After a short drive home, I was able to enjoy a better-than-expected lunch. It came largely as advertised with a pakora as the appetizer, naan as the bread, and a piece of galub jamun as the dessert (though the "salad" was just a few assorted vegetables). The rice was fragrant, the sauces creamy, the portion size more than respectable, and to my relief, Shukkranaa does NOT hold back on flavor. I don't know if the dine-in experience would be as impressive, and there are certainly other Indian eateries to choose from in the immediate area, but for tasty, convenient takeout, count Shuukranaa as a name to remember.
