BLUF: very good food and excellent service A group of 7 of us went for early dinner on a Saturday. The place was moderately busy. It appears they stop new diners coming in about an hour before closing time, so be sure to make a reservation or call in to check before doing a walk-in. Our server was excellent. We have some jokesters in our group, and he joked right back at us with a sense of humor. That said, he also listened closely to our orders, recommended alternatives when asked, and was very punctual. The restaurant was very accommodating to menu substitutions and willing to answer questions about ingredients to meet dietary restrictions. The food was excellent. Fried brussels sprouts were amazing. Even the "simple" fried chicken sandwich was very good, with the pimiento dressing adding a nice splash of flavor to a very generously sized chicken filet. Salmon was done to perfection. Zucchini noodles, or Zoodles, were delicious and well made. As a side benefit the next door winery had a band playing and we were able to listen to some great music while eating. We came to find out the band is called Midnight Blues Virginia, so I'll throw in a plug for them here as well, even though they weren't playing at the restaurant itself. It's not cheap place to eat, so I wouldn't go back too often, but for a special occasion definitely.

Visited today for the second time in two weeks. Beautiful views, good (not great) wine and OK food. Service was accommodating to support a group of 10. It appears that the chef had a spinach fetishist, there was spinach in the sweet potato ravioli, spinach in the chimichurri on the rib eye, and spinach mixed in the salmon dish. Everything was average, nothing bad. There are many vineyards in the area, this competes well with the rest and the views are spectacular.

We went to the winery for a complementary wine tasting and found several wines we loved and purchased. Then we went to Dinner and each of us got something different and each item was amazing! I personally got the ribeye and it was prepared perfectly. Every waiter there was so friendly and made our dining experience memorable!

Lovely lunch! Could stay all day! It was an absolutely gorgeous day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Spectacular views of the mountains from my charming patio table. I had the mussels, which were served in a velvety, buttery sauce. Plenty of grilled bread for dipping! Then I had the salmon over risotto, which was delicious. To finish up the orange creme brûlée. If you are in the area I encourage you to stop in and stay awhile. It's well worth it!

This restaurant is coming back to life beautifully! The setting is spectacular. You see rolling hills outside of your windows, the white table cloths and flowers from their garden give a fancy but subdued feeling. The restaurant is sparkling clean. The service is prompt and friendly. The food comes out at the right temperature and is well priced. We booked our next dinner out while we were wrapping up our first dinner! True farm to table and fresh!

Loved our dinner at this mountain winery. Outstanding new chef Oshie (trained at the Culinary Institute and Napa Valley). Gorgeous views. Food and wine were surprisingly underpriced and very HIGH quality. Everything was super fresh and not heavy. We could actually taste the food. My shrimp and grits were world class and my wife's ravioli were delicious and handmade. We started with an oaky chardonnay but the real treat was the Petit Verdot red wine. The service was outstanding and we left happy and full but not over-full

They are back!! Currently doing a soft opening but expect a full opening soon. If you want to catch one of the limited seatings for the soft opening give the winery a call and ask if they have availability. Ok, so here we go... Will review both lunch and dinner. Lunch. We had the avocado toast for an appetizer. Came out completely different and better than expected. Served as three separate "toasts" all three were very yummy. I'm not usually a fan of smoked salmon but it was great. My fav was the one that had the goat cheese. Looked a lot like feta but tasted like fresh goat cheese. We then shared a Caesar salad. I'm kinda picky on my Caesar dressing as I do not like the oil based as much as the creamy based. Their homemade dressing was super creamy and way good. The salad is actually so large it could be a meal if you were not super hungry. Then came the entree. Shrimp and Grits. My wife could not stop eating the grits. Nice and creamy with just a bit of cheese taste but not over the top like you get at a lot of places. The shrimp were well cooked and not over done or thought. Nice a fresh tasting. They will be milling their own grits which is kinda cool. We paired that with a bottle of the new vintage Archival wine. Over the years I have not been a great fan of the Archival but this vintage is super spot on. I am confident this wine will turn into a library or reserve wine quickly so get it while you can. The service was great and we even had the opportunity to meet the Chef "Smiley". Great guy and an inspiring success story. Oh, about forgot. The price points for the lunch is very affordable for a family but also has options if you desire to splurge. Dinner. Lunch was soo good we had to go back for dinner which was white table cloth service. Nice touch. Again, the price points were spot on with options for a moderate meal as well as an extremely nice Filet Minion, which we both had. However, we started out by sharing a bowl of the French onion soup. Oh my, was that yummy. The style of cheese they used made it super good. Back to the entree. The steak was cooked perfectly. Ok so I like my steak medium-rare and more often than not it will come out medium which is not my thing. But this steak was well prepared. Ok, so remember they were having a soft opening. They forgot to bring us steak knives but we actually didn't need them. Yes, we were able to eat our steaks with a normal table/butter knife without sawing the silly thing. That is a sign of a good piece of meat. The mashed potatoes were extremely creamy cause they were puréed. The asparagus was nicely browned and great as well. Can't comment on desert. We were stuffed!! Both times the service was great. Overall I really like the new restaurant and updated decor. Give it a try but make sure you get reservations.

Wine was good. Beautiful outdoor seating area with nice landscaping, plants, flowers. Music outside during warmer season. Big retail/tasting area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very dog-friendly, which was perfect for us. We'll be back.

So Happy!! The place where George Millsaps and I made so many memories is once again complete - the Restaurant at Chateau Morrisette is open!! So far we have tried dinner, lunch, charcuterie on the lawn, and outdoor dinner. Everything was amazing! Who knew we could have a a chef trained in the second best culinary school IN THE WORLD IN Floyd!! Thank you Chef Smiley! This place will always be magic to us. And now that we have gotten to know the family better we are pleased to consider these kind hearted people friends. Thank you for all the great memories David and Melissa Morrisette!

It closed a decade or so ago, and I hadn't been to Meadows of Dan for a long time, so when I found out about Jane's I was excited and hopeful, and (although there was no fried chicken, alas) it definitely proved worth the trip when I was finally able to get there this past weekend. I had fried shrimp, mashed potatoes, green beans, and French fries, all of which tasted great and came out in a reasonable time. A mistake in the order (from the kitchen, which the waitress noticed as soon as she put the food down on the table) was corrected quickly and with the offer of a little extra food as an apology for the hassle. The waitress herself was friendly and an excellent server. The only reason we didn't get dessert was because we were pressed for time by deadlines at a couple of places we wanted to visit. I don't know how long it will be before I make it back to Meadows of Dan, but I'll love having dinner at Jane's again whenever I do. (Especially if they ever start selling fried chicken too. :) )

Our waitress, Lisa, was enthusiastic as we praised her for the variety of menu options - it was hard to choose what to order! Five stars except my hush puppies were cold. Good flavor, but chilled. I didn't complain as I had more than enough food with the fried shrimp platter. We were so full we had to skip the homemade desserts. I noticed handmade dish towels and jams (apple butter and strawberry jam) at the checkout. We bought some strawberry jams to take home with us. We're excited to give them to friends as a "sweet" memory of our road trip. Thank you, Jane's Country Kitchen!

I ordered an extra side of dressing for both my sandwich and the chips. I just cannot rave enough about how amazing my entire meal was! Those chips were PERFECT!!!! It was very cold where we were sitting and the server allowed us to move to a warmer spot. We ordered a fried mushroom appetizer. This was very good. They came with ranch and I think it was the horseradish sauce. The orangish sauce was very good. I ordered 1/2 rack of dry ribs with mac & cheese and green beans, and 2 hushpuppies. You get a choice of Texas toast, hushpuppies, or rolls. My coworker ordered salmon. When the food came out, my ribs were wet. I told the server that I had ordered dry rub. He stated they were dry but had sauce on them. I'm sorry, that is not a "dry rib", in my opinion. The first piece of rib meat I ate was soft and juicy. The next two were super dry and I could not eat any more of them. My coworker joked that that was probably what they were referring to when they said "dry rub". The green beans were ok. I added a ton of pepper and some hot sauce. I saved the mac & cheese for lunch the next day. The hushpuppies were dense and needed a little more flavor. My coworker commented that her salmon was ok but nothing to write home about. I should have went with my first instinct and ordered from the kids menu. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is nice.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to return to those special ones, that have made a difference in my life and highlight them, for the benefit of the public, so they too can have an opportunity to appreciate the qualities of a one-of-a-kind fine dining experience. And Bernard's Gastropub & Eatery in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Bernard's was born out of the love of two culinary aficionados turned professionals that in someway have managed to create a restaurant with an environment that transmits this intimate love to the hearts of their customers through the attention to detail in its extraordinary customer service and amazing culinary masterpieces. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. It had a delicious, giant size crab cake in the middle, scallops, and shrimps, with parmesan risotto sautéed heirloom tomato, spinach, and nice size asparagus, with a burre blanc sauce. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the high-quality of their food and magnificent ambiance of the place. Everything was so delicious that only one word could ever describe them: priceless! For dessert I had their very famous Butterscotch Banana Pudding, which the chef makes at the moment ordered. It looked spectacular and tasted amazingly delicious: a culinary work of art. What a great way for the Gran Finale of an extraordinary dining experience!
