Discovering this Elderberry's has been like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…read more After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Elderberry's in Salem, Virginia, is a perfect example. This casual café located on West Main Street in the historic Downtown Salem, near Roanoke College and the Salem Farmers Market is not your ordinary café. Housed in an attractive contemporary building painted purple with lots of windows and their logo, which is their name written with a special font (also named Elderberry, characterized by its rounded, playful, and slightly stretched appearance) in bluish-green color, this casual, cozy, women-owned, local restaurant business, specializes in smoothies, wraps, salads, fruit bowls, grain and mac & cheese bowls, freshly baked goods, special coffees, signature lattes, as well as in catering box lunches. Besides this, they also sell various unique merchandise, such as, bee butter, a variety of scented candles, tumblers, stickers, the CHEMEX Six Cup Classic coffeemaker, and Elderberry's Hoddies, just to name a few. I arrived for the first time in my pearl white Lexus on a late Wednesday morning to have a late breakfast-early lunch, and was able to park in one of their parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant. As I walked in the restaurant, I was fascinated by the many homemade, colorful menu signs all around the place. A young, friendly, gentleman, wearing a Mohammed Ali black t-shirt and a Little Green Hive black knit cap, greeted and welcomed me behind the ordering counter and took my order. I ordered a medium Mocha Coffee (made hot with whole milk and dark chocolate), and a Turkey Bacon Wrap. My order was rang up in their modern credit card terminal and I paid with my Harvard Alumni World Mastercard. As I waited for my order to be made, I looked around the place and suddenly watched as the employee was making my Mocha Coffee. It was like an artist creating a work of art. And I was lucky to be able to record it with my cellphone camera. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food and drinks. The Mocha coffee was served in a simple yet elegant white cup and had the nicest design on top. But even though it looked fabulous, when I took a sip of it, it tasted extraordinary! Like none I've ever had before. And I have had many Mochas in many places. One time in a high-end fine dining restaurant, the manager sent one of their employees to purchase a bar of high-quality chocolate to be able to make me a Café Mocha because they didn't have one listed in the menu. The Turkey Bacon Wrap was also very good. Made with fresh ingredients from the tortilla of the wrap to the fresh items it contained. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would find such a quaint and one-of-a-kind place here, and experience such a unique and extraordinary dining experience. I'm looking forward to returning and I heard they will be opening one in downtown Roanoke soon.

What's unique about this Coffee Shop is that it's exclusively a Drive Thru Coffee. After being awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And 7 Brew Coffee in Salem, Virginia, is a perfect example. Today, I finally got to try it out, and boy was I impressed with what I saw, and with what I tasted. As soon as I arrived following the directions from my Lexus' GPS, I witnessed long lines of cars in front of the building of the place waiting for an employee with a tablet to come and take their order. To be able to better experience and capture the moment with my cellphone camera, I parked in a parking lot next door, and walked around the sign that read "Drive Thru Coffee," and had an arrow pointing at where cars stopped for the employees to come around and take their orders. After this, these employees go to a window and pick up the orders and deliver them to the cars. All in all they have a very efficient operation set up, and their employees are all very friendly and very efficient. As I walked to one of the cars where an employee was taking its order, I excused myself and asked the employee if I could make an order without being in my car. He quickly answered that I could just by going around the side and their I would find an employee standing by a glass sliding doors taking orders as well. I did just that and a very friendly and welcoming young lady greeted me and handed me a copy of the menu so that she could take my order when I was ready to choose what I wanted. While I the wide variety of coffees, starting from the 7 originals, to Cold Brew Coffee, the Classics, cold or hot, 7 Energy Drinks, 7 Fizz, Teas & Lemonades, to Soothes. If it had not been cold outside I would have ordered a Mango Smoothie. But since it was 34 degrees out, I ordered one of their 7 Original Coffees: their German Chocolate Iced Coffee which was a Coconut & Caramel Mocha. The friendly young lady took my order on her tablet and I paid with my credit card right there. She then went inside and after a short while came out with my Iced Coffee and paper receipt. In the meantime I took photographs of the inside of the Coffeee Shop where the drinks were being made by other friendly and very efficient employees. They had loud music playing in the background and when I heard a song by Bad Bunny being played I recorded a short video as well. I invite you to view my photographs and videos accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their drinks. Then, as my server was coming out with my Iced Coffee order, I captured her images as she was delivering my order to me. Since there was a kind of a box that served as a table there, I drank my coffee in the shade, thanked her, and then walked away to my Lexus. What an exciting moment to visit and experience an extraordinary operation of a Drive Thru Coffee Shop and an amazing exclusive cup of coffee. If you live, work, or are just visiting the area. I would highly recommend you visit this Drive Thru and try one of their drinks. I can assure you that you will never forget the experience, and always remember the taste of your drink, and the friendly and hospitable service you received.

Specializing in fresh smoothies and wraps, as well as fruit and grain bowls, all with fresh and natural ingredients. The small restaurant also has a mini gift shop to buy cute items such as jewelry, chocolate, homemade sweets, sweatshirts, mugs, and other items. They offer to go service as well as delivery and catering. As I entered the restaurant I loved its colorful, informal, and relaxed interior design with beautiful hardwood floors. It creates an inviting and friendly atmosphere, which is reinforced by the warm welcoming of its employees and their wonderful customer service. A young lady behind the counter greeted and welcomed me to the place and took my order. The menu was above behind the counter in a size big enough to be able to read it from far away. To drink I ordered a Mad's Mango Berry Smoothie. To eat I ordered the Turkey Avocado Wrap. And for dessert I ordered an Authentic Dutch Stroopwafles that came with two marshmallows on top. After paying for my order, I sat at one of the tables next to the wall and waited for it to be ready to pick up. It did not take long for my order to be ready. As soon as it was, they called me and I went up to get it. The Smoothie was nice and cold with a mixture of Banana, Orange, Raspberries, and Mango. Very refreshing indeed, especially now that the hot weather is approaching. The Turkey and Avocado Wrap came nicely wrapped in a fresh tortilla, with all the ingredients very nice and fresh. And the dessert was very unique and sweet. I invite all reading my review to look at my photographs accompanying it to better get a feel for the food and the place. While I was eating my food, several customers came in for Take out orders, mostly of Smoothies because it was almost time to close. I figure they must have more business for breakfast and lunch, and even during snack time. I highly recommend this restaurant for when you want to eat something healthy and not too big and a Smoothie to cool you down. Their Fruit and Grain Bowls also sounded very appealing as well.

My food came to me within a few minutes, no more than ten. The bisque was good, didnt have any lobster bits in it that I could discern but the flavor was good. A short while ago I had the privilege of reviewing its first location, in Downtown Roanoke, the largest establishment in Crafteria: Handmade Food and Goods, almost in the corner of S Jefferson Street and Church Avenue. Today I decided to visit the Little Green Hive in Grandin Village, located on Grandin Road in the heart of Grandin Village, right next to the 7-11 there. It shares the same entrance to the building where Rockfish Food and Wine Restaurant is located. After you enter a small foyer, the door on the right takes you to this Historic Grandin Village Coffee Shop, that serves Coffee, Smoothies, Smoothie Bowls, Fresh Juices, Breakfast Burritos & Bagels, and fresh pastries such as Fresh-baked Scones, Muffins, Cinnamon Rolls, and Large Chocolate Chip Cookies. When I entered through the white french door that led to this Coffee Shop located in a small yet very cozy space of a Victorian building with beautiful original hardwood floors and a lovely wide window with a long counter table and high chairs facing out the window looking out towards the sidewalk, I was simply amazed at how well by using different color paints for the walls, a white furniture counter, blackboards with color chalk menus, and contemporary yet comfortable furniture, they have created a cozy and inviting space, very appropriate to contribute to the dining experience itself. At the ordering counter, a gentleman employee warmly greeted and welcomed me with a smile. Then he took my breakfast order. I ordered a Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a plain Bagel Sandwich, a large Caffè Mocha, and one of their famous Cinnamon Roll, which by the way I had seen how they make them from scratch when I visited their Downtown Roanoke store. Another of their employee, a young lady, was the one who prepared the items ordered and the would place them on the pick-up table when ready and call the name of the items to be picked up and taken by the customer to their table. As I sat down waiting for my food to be ready. I noticed the positive chemistry emanating from the other customers there. A few young ladies who looked like friends were having breakfast and chatting at the window counter. An midage gentleman was seated in one of the relaxed and comfortable, leather chairs up front and listening to his music while he enjoyed his coffee. An older wise gentleman was serving as a mentor to a younger what looked like college student. And a group of four older but graceful and energetic ladies just arrived and were seated down at a table getting ready to have a pleasant breakfast meeting, while enjoying their coffee and breakfast treats. This restaurant was serving the community well. I could feel it in the air. While on its walls, there were artworks from a local artist hanging with a name and price tag and information on the artist with a QR code to the Artist's website and instructions on how to buy these and other of her works of art. While all this was happening I had already picked up my breakfast and was enjoying it at my table. Needless to say that everything tasted delicious. From my Mocha Coffee that had just the right flavor, to the Bagel Breakfast Sandwich which was fresh and soft with fresh ingredients, to the Cinnamon that was so sweet. I invite the readers of this review to also look at my photographs and video-clip accompanying the review to better appreciate this place and its food. And I highly recommend that you stop by and try it. For I can assure you that when you do, you are up for a one of a kind Coffee Shop dining experience.

The cafe is a decent size, wide and open. There are tables on one side of the cafe and sofa seating on another side. We sat at a big elevated table with bar chairs that looked out of the cafe. Service was friendly enough. Would visit again for coffee and light bites again.

So let's start with the food. First off, NOWHERE on the menu does it say that the chicken is a sandwich. I opened the box and there was something wrapped in tin foil and when I opened it, it was a chicken sandwich with some kind of sauce and pickles. I HATE pickles. So GROSS!!! It also looked like the sauce was a mix of bbq and Mayo. Gross!! And let's talk about the size of the chicken.....the bun was one of those small burger buns you get from the store and the chicken was SMALLER than the damn bun!!!! It didn't even stick out!!! Like WTF?????? If I'm gonna pay for food I expect to get food. I sat there for a few minutes just looking at it cause I felt like I had been scammed and finally I go back up to the counter. I asked the guy if this is a normal sized piece of chicken and he tells me it depends which piece you get. What the actual heck???? I also told him that NOWHERE on the menu does it say it's a sandwich and he says "You thought it was a piece of chicken?". Yes, I did think that. He then went and had them make me another piece of chicken (same small size as the first) so that I had a little more. Tho there was BBQ sauce on it, this chicken had zero flavor. I never had a hush puppy before and it was kinda bleh. Fried crap if you ask me. And the onion rings tasted kinda mushy so definitely NOT good. The ONLY good thing was the shake. I got the chocolate Oreo peanut butter flavor and that was definitely worth the extra money. Would happily pay for another shake but 100% feel like I wasted money on the food. Probably not going back even tho they do have other things. I just don't feel like anything else would be worth it. And the portion size is NOT OK!! 100% never going back to this location.
