This is my second MAJOR experience with Rooter Guard. This time my drain lines were comletely blocked and no amount of augering would create even a small opening through the blockage. So much for the $59 special -- even late at night! The next morning, Lead technician Oscar and supervisor Harry returned with a down-hole camera. Snaking the camera in through our main drain line showed a severe obstruction --- mainly tree roots. The camera had a transducer that allowed its location to be pinpointed. Harry used a receiver to find the camera and determine its depth. To my surprise, the location indicated that the house drain line went diagonally across our front yard, not directly to the city sewer main as I had thought based on the location of a clean-out opening. The camera showed that the pipe had deteriorated, as well as being infiltrated with roots. Harry explained to me my options, which I confirmed online. He told me the cost was $185/foot to repipe the line. I swallowed hard, but it had to be done. I already knew that the company was honest, cooperative, efficient and extremely competent. I agreed. Soon after, workmen began digging holes at strategic locations to access the clogged area and at a previously known access point. The exposed line was a material called "Orangeberg." It was used in construction during and for a few years subsequent to WWII because iron was in shot supply. It is rolled material made of wood pulp, asbestos, asphalt and bitumen (tar). Actually, it lasted far longer than its expected service life. When the clogged area was uncovered, the camera was used to locate the point at which our line joined the city sewer. A worker excavated a large hole at that point to an incredible 9 feet below surface in just one day! Repair of our drainange woes was by pulling a continuous length of a polymeric tube through the existing Orangeberg line, shattering it as the new material went. Hence, very expensife and time consuming trenching was not required. A hydraulic pulling device was used to pull the tube. The rate was about 1 ft/min, so most of the pipe installation job was done in under two hours. Then the crew installed pipe fittings and new access points. The next day, they returned to fill in the excavations. When they finished, the yard was level and compacted, no debris was left, and plantings had been restored, Since a continuous line was now installed, tree root invasion is a thing of the past. So is the concern about line collapse and corrosion or erosion of the inner surface. This process has added real value to our property. Rooter Guard personnel are expert, polite, competent, and work efficiently. Their response time is prompt. Their pricing is fair. I have no complaints and will contact no other companies when we need future services. read more

Our kitchen sink was backed up so we called this company last night, they gave us an appointment the next day. However, the "technician" wanted to descale my pipes without properly inspecting that my pipes were plastic; meaning if I would had said yes he would have really messed it up because an expert would know that you can only descale cast iron pipes. In addition, he called his supervisor and his supervisor also agreed that my pipes needed to be descale. Also, quoted $3,000 when typically this job at the most is $500. Do not use this company, they will take advantage of you if you know any better. read more

He started work same day and inspected my bathroom drain line as well only to find out that additional work has to be done replacing my copper lines which had already broken. Be prepared and know that no plumber will come out for $59 to clear out a clogged drain, such was my experience they tried to put the snake through with a 4 inch blade and I asked him to use a smaller blade based on the age of my plumbing they said they didn't have one, instead they suggested bringing in another person for another fee to run the camera and of course the camera only went 6 feet and $59 turned into $150 and then $1800 estimate without a guarantee that it would be fixed They then suggested replacing the entire piping at a cost of $12,000. During stressful times like these you can easily make wrong decisions. I Instead called another plumber they showed up with several root curing blade sizes. 40 min later and $75 it was cleared out. read more

Wow!!! Amazing work on our complicated main line. Harry, Victor, Enrique and the team spent days removing a root infested, crumbling main line to the sewer that went down an extremely long driveway. The deep line was accessed, blasted out, and replaced PERFECTLY. I called Rooter Guard to discuss water heater maintenance and to learn how to flush my water heater. Johnny came out within an hour and explained that since my water heater is so old (14 years) if he flushes it, it might not turn back on. If you ever need a Plumber on a SUNDAY, these would be the people I would call. I have a tankless water heater which decided to stop working this past Sunday and I called Rooter Guard. Emilio was at my house in 1/2 hour. The hot water lines were warm and I wasn't getting hot water so he crawled under the house to make sure there wasn't a break in a pipe. hole under the house he took pictures of a pipe that was bulging and could become a problem in the future. Emilio reset the water heater and then showed me how to reset it so I wouldn't need to call if it stopped working again. The charge was $75. On a Sunday! I'm pretty sure a plumber house call is a minimum of $150 and that's on a normal week day. Can't say enough about them. read more

First of all, I didn't have a chance to request different companies for estimate. So, I don't know what's the price range for the work I needed. We had to have a plumber over to fix our shower faucet because we couldn't turn it off after something was broken. The plumber had to cut a piece of our tub wall (plastic) out and do some welding job to the pipe. They charged me $1850 for 3.5 hour work. It might be totally normal price range for the job they do, but I have no idea. So I just want to put it out here. I didn't receive itemized invoice, so I don't know what's the price for everything. The reason I gave this company 4 starts is mainly because of their poor communication. We had first plumber on Saturday and he told me that he would be able to come back early morning Sunday. He told me he could be back around 9 am to finish what he left. After he finished his job, he said...."oh, because our shop doesn't open until 10, I won't be back until 11ish." My thing is...you know what time is your shop open, you don't just tell me you can come here early, then change it half way through." On Sunday, we got phone call around 10 from the company indicating that the first plumber had emergency and couldn't show up. They had to send different plumber over. We wait until 11:30 to call them back, they said the Plumber would arrive before 12:30. We wait until 12:45, no plumber still. We had to call again. The plumber finally showed up around 2:30. We had planned things to do and errands to run on Sunday, but because of their poor communication, we ended up waiting the whole time. We could have finished our errands in the morning if they had told us they wouldn't be able to make it after 2 pm in the beginning. read more

We had a sink that was clogged up and Jonathan from Rooter Guard came out based on a $59 special on their web site. He quickly said that that the special did not apply because we did not have some place he could easily snake the sink. So he asked for $129. I agreed. He then took out the P-trap and then snaked for a while. Then said he was too afraid to go beyond 25 feet. However, the sink was still filling up when he was done. So I asked my regular plumber (but who can only come weekends as he has another job) to talk to him. At the end Jonathan said what we needed was a procedure that he called "descaling" that was $2500. I said I would not do this till I talked to my plumber (and it seemed WAY too expensive to me). Those are the cons. The pros are a) they came out quickly, in 1 hour b) he did not charge me for the visit as he did not fix the problem c) he was very polite and d) The sink started working fairly well several hours later. The sequel is as follows. My regular plumber came a few days later and snaked for around 70 feet (he felt Rooter Guard had not gone the 25 feet they claimed) and it seems to work very well now. Thus far at least, we don't feel there is any need for "descaling". But of course its early days yet. So go figure . . . read more
