I'm a renter in an apartment building. I have a shower diverter. It needs to be changed because the faucet runs when I have the shower on. Wasting hot water. The owner of the unit won't fix its all do it myself and take it off the rent. I called and the girl was very nice on the phone. She said they couldn't give me a quote over the phone. They'd have to have a technician come look at it. The technician came. He got here on time.He was nice, but I had to shut off the water myself in the building. He took the port off and down to his truck said he didn't have the part. I asked him how much before he left to go get the part. He told me that it was going to be necessary to change out all three handles on the shower. Hot, cold and the diverter, and that it was going to cost $1,450!! I asked how much just for the diverter? And he said Ummmmm. $650!! I told him I thought the price was high, and he said, I know. I told him I might do the diverter , and he went back to go get the part in the meantime , I called to get a quote so I can know if I was getting ripped on for not. First place , I called a g g plumbing and electrical. The lady on the phone put me on the phone with a plumber who asked me what I needed done and gave me a quote over the phone of $250 for the diverter, and $375 all three knobs. That's at $400 difference just for the diverter. And a difference of $1075 for all three. Naturally, I is scheduled for A G G to come out the next day. And they called the ruder guard office and asked them to have the technician. Come back bring the part he removed and pick up his tools. I cannot believe how ridiculous of a quote. He gave me. Thats highway robbery at best. I still felt inclined to give him 30 bucks for his trouble. Even though I wasn't happy with his quote. Then he told me that those are company prices and he has no power over the quotes. I don't know how much I believe that. I hope this was helpful. read more

What a scam. Don't waste your time. I had Rooter Guard out for their $59 drain cleaning. Their tech, Eddie Martinez, showed up and I explained to him that I had built the house 35 years ago and knew every drain and clean out. About ever five years the drain that handles the kitchen, dishwasher and master bedroom shower backs up. The clog is always 50+ feet out from the clean out. Eddie Martinez brings out a handheld device that only goes out 35 feet. I told him that would not work. Sure enough, it didn't. But Mr. Martinez had a solution, he could put a camera down the pipe for $350 or a hydro jet with a camera for $750. I declined and had another plumber out. I explained the situation to him and he brought out a cart with a long snake. This is the same kind that in the past years the other pumbers had used. Sure enough within 10 minutes the clog was cleared. The one positive is they did not charge me for coming out because the clog was not cleared. What a scam. read more

STOP!!! After complaining every step he made in my house before getting started, Eddie Martinez tried to find every reason to increase the bill. When you have an uncomfortable feeling about something, go with your gut. My gut told me to hold off with them doing any additional work, they claim they tried to snake the toilet through a clean-out nearby, to no avail. His snake tip broke off and he continued to use it. They said they needed to have a camera view of the issue which would be an additional $350. I canceled them from coming but they came anyway the following morning, but I didn't use them. I had a friend to give me the name of a REPUTABLE plumber that came at noon today and fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes. It was a paper stoppage and it's flowing perfectly now. No camera needed, no hydro-jetting needed, just a good piece of equipment (65-foot snake) that solved the problem. Eddie of Rooter Guard caused more damage to my newly installed steps because he wouldn't allow for help down the stairs with his equipment, banged the steps badly. I insisted I help him out because too much damage was already done. The reputable plumber was able to carry the snake down 7 steps with no damage or complaints at all. I called Rooter Guard for a clogged drain pipe in my laundry room. Service tech Johnny K responded quickly to diagnose the problem. He was prompt, thorough , friendly and polite. It ended up that the problem was bigger than we thought as my house was built in the 50s and had the original cast iron drainage pipes. My kitchen sink was backing up, when Johnny came to check it out, he asked where my clean out was located to try and save me some money. Turns out I did have a clean out, and he began running his snake unfortunately my kitchen line was never serviced, and their was a lot of Black gunk and grease in the line. He then recommended to do a Hydro jet, I was a little hesitant about it, So I contacted my husband and agreed to go ahead with the hydro jet since we had never serviced our kitchen line, and we did not want this issue to further continue. Our line was in really bad shape and the Hydro jet did not successfully fix the issue so then he contacted his specialist Mike. He explained to Mike step by step of what's going on, and was told about a descale device. This is my second MAJOR experience with Rooter Guard. This time my drain lines were comletely blocked and no amount of augering would create even a small opening through the blockage. So much for the $59 special -- even late at night! The next morning, Lead technician Oscar and supervisor Harry returned with a down-hole camera. Snaking the camera in through our main drain line showed a severe obstruction --- mainly tree roots. The camera had a transducer that allowed its location to be pinpointed. Harry used a receiver to find the camera and determine its depth. To my surprise, the location indicated that the house drain line went diagonally across our front yard, not directly to the city sewer main as I had thought based on the location of a clean-out opening. The camera showed that the pipe had deteriorated, as well as being infiltrated with roots. Harry explained to me my options, which I confirmed online. He told me the cost was $185/foot to repipe the line. I swallowed hard, but it had to be done. I already knew that the company was honest, cooperative, efficient and extremely competent. I agreed. Soon after, workmen began digging holes at strategic locations to access the clogged area and at a previously known access point. The exposed line was a material called "Orangeberg." It was used in construction during and for a few years subsequent to WWII because iron was in shot supply. It is rolled material made of wood pulp, asbestos, asphalt and bitumen (tar). Actually, it lasted far longer than its expected service life. When the clogged area was uncovered, the camera was used to locate the point at which our line joined the city sewer. A worker excavated a large hole at that point to an incredible 9 feet below surface in just one day! Repair of our drainange woes was by pulling a continuous length of a polymeric tube through the existing Orangeberg line, shattering it as the new material went. Hence, very expensife and time consuming trenching was not required. A hydraulic pulling device was used to pull the tube. The rate was about 1 ft/min, so most of the pipe installation job was done in under two hours. Then the crew installed pipe fittings and new access points. The next day, they returned to fill in the excavations. When they finished, the yard was level and compacted, no debris was left, and plantings had been restored, Since a continuous line was now installed, tree root invasion is a thing of the past. So is the concern about line collapse and corrosion or erosion of the inner surface. This process has added real value to our property. Rooter Guard personnel are expert, polite, competent, and work efficiently. Their response time is prompt. Their pricing is fair. I have no complaints and will contact no other companies when we need future services. read more
