My friend and I were going to the movies at Pittsford Plaza and the surrounding restaurants were on a wait so we opted for Root 31 because it would be quicker. It's the same as Camille's with a new name and a different menu. My friend and I just ordered 2 pizzas to share. We tried the Greek and the White pizza. Both were pretty good. They were a decent size. We both ended up having half of a pizza left. It seemed a little on the pricey side for a Panera type restaurant. I would go back for sure and try some other menu items that I haven't tried yet. read more

Beware of the Root 31 Cafe in Pittsford. We placed an on-line order on Sunday, November 29th and even though they were closed due to Covid and not known to me, their on-line system processed the order and charged me for the meal that I could not receive because they were closed. I was directed to the general manager (Matt) who said that the order was canceled and that the authorization would drop off. He was rude and nasty and he refused to take my name or look into the situation. The authorization became a charge on my account and my credit card company confirmed that I had been charged. They directed me to dispute the charge. I had been a repeat customer at this location and I understand that a lot is going on with Covid but to be nasty to me and to refuse to look into the situation shows the true nature of the management at this organization. read more

Root 31 takes the quality food, fast approach. It's order-at-the-counter and they have a wide mix of things that appeal to a lot of folks. Pizza, burgers, veggie options, salads, wraps, etc. Plus, gluten free options. I went for the R31 burger, which is char grilled. It's cooked all the way through, yet remains juicy. I added havarti on top and it comes with lettuce and tomato, plus chips and a pickle on the side. Basic, but it was decent and filled me up. Others to try: - Breakfast sandwich on brioche with sausage or bacon - both are delish - Veggie sandwich on ciabatta The space is simple, quality fast food, which I think is ideal for the Pittsford Plaza experience. I will come here when I'm running around doing my shopping and need to grab something quick, but tasty. There's a space in the back for seating that I like, that feels less like a chain/quick bite dining experience. There's a circular room with a round table plus a couple larger tables with booth seating and chairs. It felt cozy so I enjoyed eating in there. They also are one of the first local restaurants to feature Impact Earth compost and recycling for their garbages. I visited for the first time today and I was impressed. I like the new decor and layout of the space (as opposed to the previous cafe, Colie's). I ordered the Roast Turkey hot sandwich on a brioche bun and it was delicious! The aioli they used was the best part. I would recommend getting a ciabatta bun or otherwise sturdier bread, though, because the brioche was just too soft to hold all of the ingredients together. The service was fairly quick during the lunch rush hour. I'll definitely be coming back to Root 31. read more

We ordered at the counter, and were served at our table. We had two little ones with us, and the restaurant accommodated their finicky pallets. It was our first visit here we loved it! The atmosphere is relaxed but classy (like others have said, it's like an upscale Panera). The man behind the counter went out of his way to be helpful when I explained a food sensitivity I had. I opted for the chicken wrap and my date had a bacon grilled cheese. What a welcome alternative to the standard Food Court options! I went to the Root 31 Cafe at Eastview Mall today for a quick lunch. The menu options all looked great, but I thought I would try just a regular American classic -- a cheeseburger. It may sound trite to those who have grown up with Mc-King-dy's versions, but I was so thrilled to have my burger cooked the way I like it -- to perfection -- and topped not with blah iceberg lettuce, but with fresh assorted greens and my personal choice of cheese! I was in town for a conference a few weeks ago, looking for a good place for a quick dinner. This is located in a shopping center right next to a Trader Joe's, and the food sort of reflects the same genre, toward the creative/healthy region of the spectrum. On a quest for serious veggies (fiber is in short supply on those conference trips, sorry, TMI but true). The veggies were fresh and delicious, and the quinoa etc. added a lot of nutrients. Mission accomplished. My dining companion had the steak burrito. Good quality ingredients and flavor. Washed it down with a Harney and Co. iced tea. The format here is that you order at a counter and they bring the food to your table. I think this will be a good option for us anytime we are in The Big Roach on business. There was a tiny amount of dressing, which was tasty and would have liked more. We've only been in the area about a year and Root 31 takes a little effort to get to from Victor yet we've been here about 4 times already. This was our first visit since well before COVID-19. They are very well set up for distancing and if you had never been there before you might not know they'd changed anything because it all flows well. This is a cafe that has a variety of choices, leaning a bit towards the healthy/fresh end of the spectrum but also plenty of crowd pleasing sandwiches and burritos etc. Having more than a few vegetarian choices makes this a bit of an outlier in this part of New York which is more known for garbage plates and sausages than veggie burgers or smoothies. Everything we've ever had there has been both tasty and satisfying plus the setting with plenty of outdoor seating and glass walled dining area just feels good. If i had one negative to say about Root 31 it would be that some items are really poor values. For example, Hummus, Guacamole and Tzatziki with Naan bread, celery and carrots. A nice enough sounding collection of items but it's pretty hard to see $15 in value there. Personally, I most recently had a Beyond meat bratwurst and it was tasty (and served very hot) but at $15 and served with only a small bag of potato chips, it seemed kind of stiffly priced. They have some amazing ice cream bars made by elves or something magical but at (if I remember correctly) $6 PER BAR, it wasn't something I would consider ordering very often. read more

Stopped in to Root 31 because I was in the area and I was craving a fruit smoothie. I pulled up the menu to make sure they had non dairy options and to my surprise they did ! I like that they have several non-dairy smoothie selections for vegans like myself, more than one too. You also get a pretty good sized for the price too compared to other local places. I got the berry fresh one, which has raspberries, strawberries , blueberries and blackberries I believe. And it's blended with mango and raspberry sorbet ! Staff was super friendly and made my smoothie very quickly. Im so happy ! I'll be back for sure to try some other vegan options on the menu. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat while inRochester the other day. Was pleasantly surprised with this cute cafe. The space is quite large and can certainly hold large groups. The cafe attendant was extremely pleasant and helpful when asked questions about the menu. We ordered the Thai Tofu wrap and the house coffee. The wrap was very tasty and the coffee was nice and hot. Root 31 offers milk substitutes for my vegan friends. (Not always easy to find) I would definitely visit here again if we are in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I was here for dinner on a Saturday evening after a movie date. The restaurant is very very very clean, with cute modern wooden tables and such pretty vibrant paintings. I got the reuben and my boyfriend tried the special, dogfish tacos. Both came with a bag of chips (which I forget the brand but it was very yummy kettle cooked chips). My reuben was a good portion, with thick fluffy pieces of rye bread. The sandwich wasn't too greasy which was nice and the meat had decent flavor. It's probably the lightest version of the reuben compared to others I've had at diners. There needed to be more sauerkraut to add that tanginess that such a rich sandwich needs though. My boyfriend's tacos were enjoyable...to my boyfriend. Unfortunately I didn't like it at all. There were 3 of them. The fishiness of the fish was just overwhelming for me I almost couldn't swallow it. I'm so glad my boyfriend enjoyed it though, so maybe dogfish is just an acquired taste. Overall, it's a cute little eatery that's perfect for a good light lunch. We have always enjoyed Root 31 food in the past. Too many times though when placing an order for delivery there have problems. We had a new employee start with our company yesterday so we ordered Root 31 delivery for lunch. As we waited and it kept getting later and later I tried to reach them. No one ever answered the phone. I called every 5-10 minutes for an hour and a half. Nothing. No food, wasted time and honestly it was quite embarassing. This morning we reached out to find out what happened and they are blaming it on their delivery service. Stated it was not their problem. It most certainly is your problem when it's your name on the door regardless of who you hire to deliver your food. This isn't the first time this has happened from this restaurant but I can guarantee it will definitely be the last. Like I said, first time - well, ok. Second time is annoying. I was so pleasantly surprised by this place! I was expecting a slightly different incarnation of Colie's, the previous inhabitant, and I was both right and wrong. Yes, the menu has almost the same menu categories and a similar vibe and layout, but the options here appeal to me much more. I couldn't decide between the veggie burrito and the Thai tofu wrap so I asked the cashier who recommended the burrito. It was packed full of delicious grilled veggies, rice, cheese and beans, and served with salsa and sour cream. My only complaints are that the burrito got super messy, probably due to the water content of some of the veggies, and I had to eat it really fast to avert disaster. The other thing is that the asparagus was in whole spears within the burrito but it was very stringy so when I bit in, the whole spear came out and it was pretty awkward to eat. I ended up just taking them out and eating them separately. I guess maybe I would use a fork and knife next time. But the flavors were delicious! I also love that everything they give you can be either recycled or composted and they didn't seem to have a trash option at all! Prices are about on par with most of the fast-casual places- my burrito was about $10 with tax- which I think is very reasonable considering that they seem to use very high quality ingredients and sustainable practices. One of my favorite "go-to" places. It's killer for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I come here every Friday for a nice long lunch and not once have I been disappointed. My favorites are the beats and sweets salad as well as the tuna sandwich. But the classics like their pizza and Caesar salad are great too. Without fail, I order a vanilla almond latte To go with my meal. It's a simple flavor combination that I don't often (if ever) see elsewhere. And I love it. You can feel free to wander in here undecided and their daily specials will always peak your interest. My wife saw the facebook page for this restaurant and thought it looked good, especially the beet salad. We are from out of town and went to the Science Museum for a while. We decided to come over for a try. The employees are friendly and welcoming and the order board was easy to read. We selected the best and sweet salad, root 31 burger, petite pizza and butternana. They were delicious! My wife would have liked to have the option of a half-size salad paired with soup or half-sandwich. It was too much! The burger was delicious, as were the other items. It was confusing as to what we should do with our plates and refuse. We will definitely return to try a brunch sometime. read more

I think that the current 3.5 stars that Root 31 currently has is accurate. I was so excited to hear of a restaurant with great sourcing in a central location. The restaurant itself is cute - great artwork, ambiance, noise level, etc - well updated from Colie's Cafe. There is also still a good amount of outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The menu has a wide variety of options, making it easy for everyone to order. The disappointment came after ordering. I ordered a sandwich, which was really good. However, dinner took a LONG time to come out, and there weren't many people in the restaurant. The sandwich bread (I ordered multigrain) was pretty much just super plain, sliced bread that can be picked up at Wegmans. The sides were a bag of chips (not made at Root 31), and a pickle (which was really good, but actually did NOT come out with my meal - I had to ask for it). My husband ordered the BBQ pizza and GREATLY enjoyed it, however. I also had a raspberry smoothie and that was good :) So, if you decide to check Root 31 out, order something that you know will be 100% made at Root 31, and be prepared to wait awhile for your food. read more
