This is my favorite restaurant in Rochester. The food is delicious and while many of the dishes can be found at most Asian restaurants (satay, pad thai, Singapore noodles) , there are a bunch I haven't encountered anywhere else. The pandan wrapped chicken wings are my favorite and their roti is perfectly crispy. The coconut rice is amazing. I always have a hard time choosing between the chicken rendang and the Kari ayam. (If you order the roti appetizer it comes paired with a little dish of Kari ayam) If you are looking for a new cuisine to try you can't go wrong here. read more

I think there was a staff in training. After the food arrived, we were still missing a complete place setting. I was looking forward to the Hainese Chicken but found it over cooked. I wasn't sure if it was reheated or due to the lack of experienced diners, who thought the redness near the bone on a pouched chicken was "raw". Not only was the chicken not served with ginger and scallion sauce, it was drizzled with soy sauce. I didn't taste the chicken flavor in the chicken rice either. Usually it's paired with the Hainese chicken. The mango chicken was too sweet, according to my husband and son. The roti canai was decent, but it had beef or pork in it. Previously, I've only had chicken in the sauce. With only 2 other seatings taken, we were sat next to a mom group of chatty 4 women. They were loud enough for our table not to bother speaking. When I go out with my girlfriends, we usually ask for a table in to corner or back, as to not bother other customers. We don't live in the area and only stopped by for a college open house. read more

Food was okay, the Singapore rice noodles were good! Typhoon shrimp were very overcooked and dry so not edible. Roti was fine, same quality as frozen varieties. Menu is largely just standard Cantonese, was hoping for some more unique options. Although plenty of Cantonese crossover in Malay cuisine, I felt although I sought out specific unique recommendations, the food was typical of Chinese takeout. read more

Excellent Malay food in Rochester! Pleasantly surprised at our dishes. Roti, eggplant in garlic sauce with pork, seafood tofu casserole, hainanese chicken. We also got salt pepper pork which was not on the menu, the waitress let us into The secret society of the off menu items! Chicken rice was great. We ate like pigs, had leftovers for few more meals and still came under expectations. Good lunch specials too. Right across street from RIT. Highly recommended. read more

Service was fast and friendly. Cucumber salad was the bomb! Very fresh, crunchy, and seasoned perfectly. Would definitely recommend getting that! Mango smoothie was good with lots of flavor. Tam yum soup with chicken was ok, but could have more flavor to it, hence the 4 star rating. Place was somewhat clean albeit the front desk seemed to have lots of clutter. read more

We went here during the summer on a weekend and it was very empty. You can either order with the server or scan a QR code at your table and order that way. Food came out quickly and was well seasoned. The meat was fall apart tender even if the presentation wasn't the best. There were no servers walking around so it was very hard to flag one down when we needed more napkins. Would definitely stop by again but maybe for takeout instead? read more

First off, the staff was very welcoming and pleasant throughout the visit. I had eyes much to big for my appetite, it I absolutely took the leftovers for another day. I had the Roti Canai, Sarang Burong, and sticky mango rice. Each dish was very well made, plated neatly, and tasted delicious. I have never had these dishes but the other reviews led me to these first and they did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is neat and clean, the noise level was low, and the high booths felt fairly private, but not hidden. I'll definitely suggest this to others looking for a new restaurant to add to their list of places to visit! read more

Recently discovered this hidden restaurant. I never noticed until my mom and aunt visiting (from out of state!) found it, ha! Located behind Golden Corral and next to AMVETS, makes you think there's nothing really there. Everything I've tried so far is amazing- their pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, coconut smoothie, basil chicken, vegetable tom yam soup have all been excellent. Especially love the pad Thai flavor. The main lady/hostess/I'm guessing owner is super friendly and always gives you a big hi because she remembers her guests :) the only photo I got was my dads soup next time I'll snap shots before we eat ! read more

Roti Canai is something we've seen made on youtube and I had no clue you could get it in Rochester! I was about to fly to Malaysia but this was more affordable. That was definitely the highlight along with the tea. The basil tofu was good but not mind blowing, coconut rice is delicious. The other dish just tasted like more intense pad thai. The radish soup was good but very plain. Would return for the roti canai alone! read more

Me and my wife were excited when we found out that there was a Malaysian restaurant here in Rochester. Unfortunately, the excitement ended there. When we went, there were no other parties so we were expecting somewhat quick service. However, that wasn't the case as throughout our experience, we had to wait an extraordinary amount of time just to request things like the check or that we were ready to order. It wasn't the case where it took forever for anything to be done, but I felt that with just one party, the service could've been a tad quicker. The restaurant itself had no music (or maybe it was at a very low volume) so we felt awkward talking to each other and the food itself was okay. We got the steamed fish which was fine (very textbook example of steamed fish but nothing that WOWED me), char kway teow which was fine (again nothing that WOWED me), and a stir fried noodle dish (forgot specifically which one) which was actually pretty solid. For dessert we had their coconut jelly/pudding, their sticky mango rice, and their red bean smoothie, which is where I think they nailed everything but the sticky mango rice. We were wowed during the desserts but wished that entrees had that same factor and hence the score given. read more

The Coco Garden is tucked away in a tiny corner of a local strip mall. The service was nice and the menu was full of delicious sounding and appearing choices. My friend asked the server her opinion of the curry soup and she replied "so/so" while shaking her head. She decided to give it a try, while I opted for a noodle dish with shrimp, chicken, squid and vegetables. The food arrived before we were halfway done with our soup. Neither dish was anything to write home about, both very bland and lacking seasoning. We paid an average of $13/pp. And I'm not sure if I would return. read more

I came for a late lunch, early dinner. Ordered Puff Shrimps & Pineapple Fried Rice. As soon as I was seated I was asked what kind of tea I like. It was served pipping hot on a big mug like cup. The Puff Shrimps are minced shrimp wrapped in Bacon(4) little pieces with a sweet/sour sauce.I liked them. The Fried Rice had Chicken, Shrimp, Egg, Veggies, and chunks of Pineapple. A good size portion that created left overs to take home. It was delicious. I like that it didn't have too much sauce. I asked for more Hot Tea, Jasmine, and had a Mango Pudin. Refreshing. I will come back to tried other dishes. read more

TLDR; not the best Malaysian restaurant but good enough to fill that Chinese Malaysian craving (or to even just try) for the area, since there really isn't any other option. Unfortunate that this is the only Malaysian restaurant in the area cause it truly underestimates how good Malaysian food really is. They have plenty of seating inside but I've only gotten take out from here. A pro is that the portions are pretty generous and they have the typical Malaysian dishes like hainanese chicken, curry chicken, satay, and many of the noodles. But they also have other non-traditional Malaysian dishes like pad thai or just more typical Chinese foods. Considering that it's one of the few Asian restaurants in the area, it does make sense to have more variety on the menu to cater to different taste buds, or to have more items that would be more "common". We got a few noodle dishes like their chow funs, chow kueh teow, hokkien mee, and seafood wat tan hor. It was all just okay. Everything was kind of salty and the flavors weren't exactly there in terms of what the flavor profile should be. Also got their satay chicken, hainanese chicken with the chicken rice, and some other more common Chinese dishes. Nothing really stood out in particular, but I also hold higher standards since I was visiting from NYC and we have much better Malaysian restaurants down there. read more

The best spot in Rochester to go when I crave Roti Canai and Nasi Lemak! It's located in a quaint little spot in the plaza however once you walk in you'll realize it's definitely a good spot. The people are great. Kind and welcoming. Their vast menu has a lot to offer although my go to is always some 3-4 dishes. I love their honeydew shake. It's amazing. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in ROC by far! Amazing for large family style group dinners. Friendly and fast service restaurant with delicious food. They give you a radish soap - which is very refreshing and light. The menu has a vast selection and the portions are fairly big. My favorite dish is probably the sizzling tofu. Always looking forward to coming here when I'm in town! I highly recommend trying the food here. read more

Amazing customer service and delicious food! Recently, I needed food for a party of 20 and needed to stay within a tight budget. Kudos and keep up the amazing work - your food is awesome and your service is spot on! read more

Food is good. Ambiance is awful. Service is slow. Had the chicken wings and they were fantastic!

Understated strip mall location in a small shopping plaza, but the positive Yelp reviews drew us in. We arrived at prime dinner time, and they seemed pretty busy and understaffed - at least in the front of the house. It may be atypical, but our service this night was pretty slow and "disinterested." We were really intrigued by the coconut rice, and my son ordered the coconut fried rice w/ shrimp ($10.95). It was not too heavy, though the coconut flavor was not very pronounced. Decent, basic fried rice. I ordered the Basil Fish Fillet, which I really enjoyed. It had a unique flavor profile and a nice mix of fresh vegetables. Chinese five spice seemed to be the prominent flavor I picked up in the brown sauce, as well as the Thai basil. I'd definitely order this again ($17.95). My wife order the sesame tofu ($14.95) that was served with broccoli. She didn't love it as the flavor was a bit too tomato sauce like, and not the sesame flavor she was anticipating. read more

CG is awesomely authentic with a huge diversity of offerings from steamed fish to twice cooked pork and everything in between. The Roti was spectacular as were the tasty pot stickers. Yes, this restaurant is still absolutely fantastic and we are still regulars. But I had to add that the whole steamed fish on a plate is my new favorite thing to order. Yes, it's a whole fish laying on its side covered with scallions, ginger, cilantro, and broth. You'll have to pick at it with chopsticks or a fork. But it is simply the best tasting fish I've ever eaten in my life. Scroll down for the other more comprehensive reviews. read more

Came back again. New server so we unfortunately had a mix up of our orders (we were not asked the spice level for the char kway tiao or pad thai that we tried). This time also tried their sizzling malaysian tofu and pad thai. Everything was very tasty, though I could have used some spice on my noodle dishes. I am especially impressed by their tofu, which is so silken on the inside and bursting with flavor. We also got coconut rice which was very tasty! Can't wait to keep coming back. read more

I'm Singaporean, so when I heard there was a Malaysian food place, I was excited to have a taste of home. Some dishes were better than others. I was impressed by the depth of the flavor of the roti canai but thought the other dishes tasted more American Singaporean fusion than sticking to the original eats from the market below my grandmother's home. I was impressed that they offered flavors such as Sambal- something I thought I wouldn't see for a while. Seeing satay is also reassuring to me. I do wish that Southeastern cuisine would take off faster, as I see it creeping into the food scene in larger cities, but I'm also happy that the chefs have offered things that would bridge Rochesterians to a taste of Singapore if they were to go. I thought their flavor s would have been good if they stuck to more traditional vegetables; sometimes the random snap pea, broccoli, etc kind of surprised me because we don't usually eat broccoli in Singapore. We ordered the yam nest with the vegetables in the middle; I miss that fried savory yam dessert you can find in Hong Kong or Singaporean restaurants. This yam was ok but it's best eaten hot. I think had it come alone with a simpler seafood option in the middle, it wouldn't taste as messy. It felt like a chop suey thrown on fried yam combination. Not a bad taste but also a little confusing. I will be back to try their chicken rice, as that is a hometown favorite. Overall, I feel that if you want something different from your typical Chinese/eastern asian cuisine, I recommend trying this place. Singapore is known for a fusion of flavors (coconut milk loving Indonesia meets warm curries meets hokkien fujian food meets sambal love from Peranakan villages). Also consider the Nepali kitchen right behind this place for another change in palate. Can't say I would come back very often because I felt like I went back home, but their roti canai will at least take me to the kopitiam downstairs with kayak toast and kopi-o on a Saturday morning. read more

My friend and I love trying cuisines that are new to us so of course this has been on our list for some time. We had takeout and shared a few dishes; our other friend had the veggie pad Thai and said it was pretty standard (good). We had: -Sarang Burong ($13.95) which was good but the taro is where much of the flavor comes from. -Roti Canai ($4.75), we didn't really understand the hype but it was spicier than expected so maybe you'll feel differently -Malaysian sesame beef ($14.95) because someone on here said it was different from Chinese sesame beef. It was more similar than I expected, but we liked it better than the chicken and than Chinese sesame beef. -Get everything with coconut rice for more flavor. This was enough for both of us and we would have finished it all if we hadn't had ice cream before dinner. I would probably go back to try some other dishes. read more

This continues to be my family's go to spot for authentic Asian dishes. We love everything from their sizzling plates, casseroles, noodle dishes and appetizers. Their coconut rice is delicious and always must get the roti canai and their sarang burung. I can't speak to the authenticity of the food since this is the only place from which I've ordered Malaysian food, BUT I can say that everything I've had has been delicious! They're currently open for pickup only (no delivery) and you can place orders through their website or by phone. I ordered the roti canai and chicken rendang with coconut rice. If you're a fan of carbs, you have to get the roti canai. Get several. I was sad that I only ordered one! It's a fried flatbread that comes with curry dipping sauce and it's fried to perfection. So crispy, so good. The chicken rendang is slow cooked and the portion was generous. I ordered coconut rice as the included rice side. Both were flavorful and very filling. I have to say that I couldn't taste a ton of different flavors in the rendang (it's usually made with star anise, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and other strong spices), but overall the meal was good. I have a new favorite takeaway place in Coco Garden and will be back to try more of their menu! read more

I've been coming to Coco Garden since I first got to college and as a Southeast Asian, the food reminds me of home. I'll never forget when there was a thunderstorm outside and one of the waiters offered to drive my friends and I back to campus. So nice of him! The ambience is cozy and peaceful. This is an OK restaurant offering takeout only at this time due to the pandemic. I wouldn't really call it Malaysian food, seemed more like Chinese to us. The menu was very large and even had a separate vegetarian section which is always nice to see. Staff were accommodating when we ordered the vegetable bean curd soup and asked it to be put into two smaller containers instead of one large. I ordered the vegetable basil fried rice which was sadly 95% rice and very few veggies. BF ordered the Singapore rice noodles. Taste was ok but his shrimp had a strange texture and after a couple he stopped eating them. If we were in the area again we probably wouldn't order from here again as we feel there have to be better options out there. read more

We went there for a late lunch and the service was excellent. There was not a whole lot of people in there. I had the seafood with noodles and my girlfriend had a chicken dish. Both were very good. The ambiance looks like it's in transition to a takeout only restaurant like many of the others have gone. It's a shame because it's a nice little place. Not sure if they served alcohol or not seem to be a bar in the back but we did not order any for lunch and none was offered. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing! I have ordered takeout and delivery multiple times and I am never disappointed. There's some very healthy delicious options on this menu. Many of the dishes that you're familiar with have a new rendition to them with Coco... often with a homemade delicious fresh sauce that is not too heavy or sugary. There are a lot more vegetables included in these dishes that you get from most, similar restaurants. Had the seafood tofu pot that was absolutely amazing. Love the rice with coconut milk. Fantastic food. We tried the general tso's and the basil chicken. Both were deliciously flavored but the general tso's surprised us by how well they did the breading. It was light and crispy surrounding quality chicken meat with a little bit of spice. The service was efficient and attentive. We had a great conversation with the lady at the checkout about the dishes and she told us they don't use flour in the breading so maybe that's the secret.
