ROK's strawberry shortcake matcha was very thick and creamy. For me personally it was a little too sweet, but if you're someone who loves dessert-style matchas, you will DEFINITELY love this drink. They really nailed the "strawberry shortcake" concept because it genuinely tasted like strawberry shortcake in drink form. The matcha itself was rich and thick, and the strawberry shortcake flavor didn't completely overpower the matcha which I appreciated. Definitely make sure to mix it really well though because the strawberry puree at the bottom is VERY sweet on its own. I love going to Rok early on a Sunday morning -- no line, super peaceful, and there's free parking in the garage, which makes the whole experience even better. Had to try rok a couple of times to get my full opinion on their drinks. There's always a line when I'm there but thankfully they do have online ordering options if you're not trying to wait! I've gotten the matcha duo the first time and definitely can see why people who don't enjoy too much sweetener would like how earthy their matcha duo is. The second time I wanted to try their mango matcha, which I honestly enjoyed more for the slighter sweetness that the mango puree had that balanced out the matcha in the drink. I can't say much for the strawberry matcha since a friend had gotten that one but said it was interesting, and "not like how normally strawberry puree tastes". Arrived at Rok around 1 pm on a Saturday and there was a 20-25 minute wait. We ordered the strawberry matcha duo and the matcha duo. The strawberry matcha duo was a bit too sweet for me. It tasted mainly like straight strawberry with a lot of syrup. It overpowered the matcha. The matcha duo, on the other hand, tasted much better and you can taste more of the matcha flavor. The matcha flavor is there, but not super strong. The matcha duo tasted more balanced than the strawberry one. Service was excellent. The cashier was kind and bubbly. While we were waiting inside, there was a cute little Photo Booth where you can take pictures and it'll print out your photo on receipt paper! There is some seating inside but considering how popular it is, I would say it gets packed and can be difficult to find seating. There is valet parking for $2 for 90 minutes in the back. You can also try to find street parking but it's difficult since it is located in a traffic heavy area. I wouldn't say Rok is the best matcha I've ever had. I went back to Rok Cafe again this Monday afternoon, March 16th. I had really enjoyed their Black Sesame Mugwort drink before, so I wanted to try it again with My Mom. It still tasted good, but this time it was a bit too sweet and thick, probably because they added too much cream. Also, when I was about to place my order, the card machine suddenly ran out of paper right in front of me. They had to replace it, and the person who went to get the paper took quite a while to come back, so I ended up waiting for a while before ordering. We got there around 9-10AM on a Saturday and although the line was not terribly long, it did move quite efficiently. Between my brother and I, we ordered the Strawberry Matcha Duo and the Matcha Duo. I liked that there was a sign at the front with instructions on how to properly enjoy their Duo drinks (basically you sip and taste the cream top first and then mix it all together). The taste of both drinks were quite delicious! You could taste the matcha flavor and it wasn't too sweet. I wish I had more opportunities to try their other menu offerings, but I guess I will just have to return on my next trip to LA. The ambience was quite nice, with the flowering tree in the middle of the seating area. There were plenty of spots to sit and chat--it seems more amenable to hanging out with friends rather than getting some work done, but I'm sure you could manage the latter if you really wanted to. read more

I love this place! There's a huge tree inside the shop as well as a free booth for photos! The workers here are really patient, bless them because the lines are always outside the door. I've been here multiple times, and I'd have to say that their drinks are definitely on the sweeter side. Specifically their strawberry matcha [7/10], yummy matcha, but will definitely get it at. 50% sweet next time. As well as their coconut matcha [8/10], less sweet than the strawberry one, but again, would get it with less sugar next time. I debated whether to leave this review on Lasung Tofu House's page or Rōk's. Ultimately, I felt it was more appropriate to share it here. I genuinely love Rōk. I regularly order at least three drinks at a time and frequently recommend it to friends and family. Unfortunately, our experience on January 2nd between 4-5 PM fell well below expectations. We decided to have an early dinner at Lasung, which is located next to Rōk, and asked beforehand how to order Rōk drinks through the restaurant so we wouldn't need to wait in the long line outside. We were told that once the order was placed, we would receive a text notification when the drinks were ready. That text never came. After waiting about 40 minutes, we went to check on our order and discovered that the drinks had been sitting on the counter for over 20 minutes. Before trying the drinks, we asked an employee if they could be remade if something was off, and we were told yes. However, when we noticed a clear difference in taste and returned, the shift manager refused to remake them and stated, verbatim, that "it was on us for not checking sooner." The shift manager's response felt rude and dismissive. We followed the instructions we were given and waited for a text notification that never arrived, so being blamed for the delay was frustrating and unfair. While there seems to have been a breakdown in communication between Lasung and Rōk regarding the ordering process, the way the situation was handled--particularly by the shift manager--left a very negative impression. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as this experience was disappointing from a place I normally enjoy and support. read more

The barista with black hair and glasses kept yawning while serving customers and clearly looked like they didn't want to be there. Honestly, if they're that tired, they might as well just go home and sleep, don't understand why they're even working. They couldn't even get a simple customer name right and lazily wrote down something completely random, then kept calling that incorrect name while laughing in the back when the drink wasn't picked up. Paying $10 for a drink this small with such poor service makes me never want to come back. The tables were also dirty, with matcha powder scattered everywhere. Customers are expected to pay, clean their own tables, and there's not even Wi-Fi. On top of that, the cream had a runny yet sticky, almost mucus-like texture that didn't go well with the drink at all, and it tasted stale.
