Was so excited to try frog legs and really wanted to love it. But sadly the food was a flop. The restaurant itself is located in a side off the bustling Saint German de pres. The wait staff was very nice. But the food was just plain meh. We ordered many dishes to share: - endive salad, it was ok, very heavy cream sauce with a lot of blue cheese - escargot, it was not what I expected and did not love this - fried frog legs, the legs were such small pieces dunked in a lot of breading which I ended up removing! - eggplant toast, this was good! - dorade fish, did not taste very fresh with a very bland cream and fennel purée - razor clams, was not very fresh and very sandy (clearly did not clean it very well) Overall, the food was a total miss for me. We went to Paris for about a week and we're excited for the food. Out of all the restaurants we went to, this was the BEST. It's a quaint restaurant in the Latin Quarter. It felt like it was hidden as it was in a small street. We had a reservation and were quickly seated. The restaurant only had one waiter and he was excellent. He spoke English and French and was patient with me as a I tried using my beginner's French to order. We ordered a red wine and an old fashioned. We made one order of the snails, fried frog legs, pork ribs, and hanger steak. My husband is a picky eater and was skeptical about the snails and frog legs, but after trying them he helped me finish both plates. We talked about the frog legs the rest of the trip and ordered them at other places. Nothing compared to Roger's. Everything was savory, well-seasoned, and filling. The only thing I regret is not making a second reservation for a later day. I already recommended this spot to friends and will def go in my next visit. read more

This quaint little place is a vintage gem. I had watched a ton of YouTube videos and added this to my Paris must see list. This was one of our best meals in Paris! Even before I start describing the food I should mention the very French ambience, cobblestone pathway that leads to this small restaurant that overlooks a courtyard, a beautiful space altogether. The service was also one of the best we've had in Paris, there was only one server (it's a small place and only two tables including ours were occupied for lunch) and he was extremely friendly and attentive. The food... OMG! This time I went to Paris on a mission to try frog legs and the preparation here did not disappoint! We started out with some appetizers, fried frog legs served with three sauces, a red wine sauce that was the best I've had, a garlic sauce that is recommended and boy does it pair well and a basic mayo that was good too. We also had the escargot that was prepared in not the traditional way that most restaurants in Paris do but a red wine reduction that was delicious. For my main dish, I had the beef tartare that was the best I've had in Paris. It was well seasoned and the beef was high quality, superb altogether! Mr. H had the frog prepared in garlic and herbs, it was absolutely delicious and I wish I could have had both dishes. Highly recommend this place, the food will not disappoint! Such a cozy spot that I found through a blog. We had made a reservation online but it didn't seem to go through and we didn't receive a confirmation email. We went at 7pm on a Monday and were seated right away even though our name was on the list. The food was great. A solid choice was the escargot in the garlic emulsion. I wanted to bathe in that emulsion!! Also unique was the frog burger. The bun was quite different with almost the texture you get from gluten free bread (but in a good way haha). Sadly, they were out of the duck hot pot by the time we ordered (we were the only other table and were there when they opened for the day)... we spied on the other table and they had ordered three of them... not sure if when making a reservation you should put that you want the duck. We got the steak instead and though it was yummy, I probably wouldn't get it again. It almost had the texture of a hamburger patty... was perfectly cooked though and had great flavor... just wasn't my favorite. There was an egg on it which was lovely. We tried to go here for lunch on a Friday and found that the restaurant was not open when we initially got there at noon and an hour later when we swung by after shopping. Not sure if the hours on the website were wrong or if they just simply did not want to open the restaurant for lunch that day. On a tiny backstreet in an alley of an alley, you'll find this narrow little restaurant. You'll know you're in the right place when you see the frog-themed decorations. The front entrance on the street will be locked; you actually have to enter through the side entrance. Somehow, all of these little touches keep the place grounded, humble and endearing. You forget that this is a world-famous establishment and that thousands before you have trekked the same cobblestone streets to eat this famous French dish. When we sat down, we received complimentary handmade baguette pieces, which were delicious and nice to munch on as we contemplated the menu and the international graffiti on the walls. They have a lunch menu, but it DOESN'T include frog legs. You can order their signature frog legs at any time of day, but it's the same price. In other words, no lunchtime discount for frog legs. The small portion of frog legs "Classical" Provençale came with sliced garlic and parsley and buttered rice. It was delicious and balanced. Nice, buttery, and juicy, with flavorful seasoning. For dessert, we went for the rhum bhaba. Delicious and strong on the rum soaking! Topped with a heaping serving of whipped cream and flecks of vanilla, this dessert was prepared for us the quickest of all dishes, despite being ordered when there were the most customers in the restaurant. We had a lot of meals in Paris (I mean really, a LOT) and the food here was definitely a standout. Maybe it's because this is where we ate the most amount of really classically French food- but I think it's probably just because the food here was amazing. The amuse bouche looks sort of like a salmon mousse, but you quickly realize that it's tomato with a tiny dot of thick and syrupy balsamic on top. The taste is so absolutely tomato that it makes you feel like you're eating a bowl of bisque when in fact, this mousse simply dissolves as soon as it hits your tongue. We started with the foie gras creme brulee, the escargot and the fish soup. The foie gras creme brulee is an absolute marvel. The sweet, crisp sugar is so lovely with the creamy, rich foie gras. A sprinkle of rock salt sends the flavors straight through the roof. The fish soup is fragrant and tastes of the sea without being fishy, even though it has nice chunks of fish swimming throughout. The escargot was actually my favorite. The green, garlicky mixture (which I'm pretty sure was spinach) was so nice on the plump, chewy little snails. I don't care what anybody says; snails = yum! For my main I ordered the duck breast, which was enormous and came with a little gratin of potatoes and some caramelized apple slices. The skin was so beautifully brown and crispy I started salivating as soon as I laid eyes on it. The interior was perfectly rare, just as I requested. And the sauce was plentiful and perfect for the duck and the apples. My sister ordered frog legs done with a preparation of citrus, capers, croutons and herbs- my god were they good. Fortunately for me, she hit a mental "I'm eating frog" block about 2/3 of the way through her dinner, so my brother in law and I got to eat a good amount of them. He ordered the cod, which disappeared so quickly I didn't even have a chance to have a good look at it. I assume it was satisfactory. I ordered the apple clafoutis for dessert, and it did not disappoint. Light and custardy, it came with a raspberry sorbet which was served in a separate little dish. I really appreciated that because I hate when people make a raspberry coulis and drench the entire dessert with it. This was a lovely palate cleanser and also complimented the clafoutis. The decor and ambiance are sort of shabby chic eclectic- a mixture of random pots, pans, knicknacks, musical instruments and a whole lot of frog themed items cover the walls and hang from the ceiling. Roger la Grenouille popped up when I was searching for a nice french dinner before our Paris vacation ended. Since it is close to our hotel, my husband and I decided to give it a try. Now I am pretty glad that we actually did. We started with escargot and fried frog legs. They were delicious. Main course was Lamb Shank with mashed potato, finished up with a dessert called "baba". I enjoyed the lamb shank but wished it could be a little more tender. The dessert was quite an adventure. Till the end I still couldn't figure out what it was exactly. :-D (Somehow I wished that I would have ordered the chocolate cake instead) The staff are very friendly. They were patient and willing to explain items on the menu to me. They have all sort of ways to cook frog legs. If you are a fan of that, definitely don't miss this one. On top of that, the atmosphere is quite unique. One wall had many countries' currencies glued on it. Also I saw an old french newspaper article introducing the restaurant in the 1940s. Quite a history. Price wise, I think it is very reasonable. Appetizers are mostly under 10 euros, and main entrees are about 20-30 euros. Desserts are little bit pricy, around 10 euros. However, all those prices are already included the tax, and other fees. So the total bill would be much cheaper than you get in the States, let alone tips. Another trick to mention, if you don't have reservations, please go there early. We arrived around 7:30pm, which is earlier in terms of dinner time in Paris. This was my husbands favorite meal in Europe and one of my top 2. I picked this restaurant because I wanted to try frog legs. When we arrived, I was surprised how small it was, and that there was not a server at the entrance. However, we wrung a bell and were helped quickly. It was a nice place and the lack of people was pleasurable because our server was very attentive. My husband got the fried frog legs and I got the frog legs in a lemon butter sauce. Both were delicious. I had a wine and my husband had a beer. Our server spoke English and was really friendly. We were there pretty late (arrived at 8 or 9), and we were their last customers, but the waiter, Gabriel, was very hospitable and did not rush us. He even gave us each a glass of chartreuse. He was very proud of this french liquor, and we loved it. I bought it at a total wine store the moment we got home. Also, my husband left his backpack and the server left it out for us to come retrieve later. I was extremely impressed by the food and service. This place has some great priced menus - even at dinner! But what really stole the show for me was the foie gras creme brulee. Oh my goodness! One my first visit we had the fried frog legs - delish! - and the cod with vegetables. Very fresh and tasty. The second time I had a caramelized salmon with braised endive - definitely more flavorful than the cod. This place is actually known for frog's legs and doing many variations of them. We had dinner there last night and came for one reason, and one reason only....to eat frog! We were not disappointed. We had the fried frog appetizer (along with the escargot). The escargot was good (but not great), and the fried frog legs were fine as well but not remarkable. For dinner, we ordered the frog in two ways. The first was the "Provençal" style which was in a garlic butter sauce. My wife loved it, and my daughter and I thought it was good but not great. What my daughter and I LOVED was what they described as a frog leg stew...it was served in a pot with a creamy buttery broth...it was AMAZING. We give that dish two thumbs up and 5 stars. For dessert we enjoyed their red berries and cream and the "chocolate finger". The chocolate finger was a very rich, dense dark chocolate cake. It was delicious (if you like dark chocolate), and the cream and berries was a great contrast to it. The cream and berries was our favorite dessert of the two. The servers were good. They had English menus which was helpful. This is a solid 4-star restaurant and a place frequented by locals. read more

As the name implies, the focal point of the menu is frog legs prepared in a variety of styles. Less adventurous eaters have also a few options, including well prepared seafood, steak, and poultry plates. The wine list is short but respectable. Good humored waiters will tolerate foreign customers' feeble attempts at speaking French while politely offering assistance in English. Service is fast and prompt. The restaurant is family owned, run by father and son. We have been in Paris for about a month now and have walked past this place every night on our way home saying, "We should really try this place." I don't know what took us so long! Not only does it have a cool name and fun posters and knickknacks on the walls, the service was great. We showed up at 8:30 on a Saturday night without a reservation and they still found a way to get us in. On top of that, the food was delicious. The amuse bouche was a tomato mousse with balsamic vinegar reduction. I had the lamb chops with pumpkin gratin and my boyfriend had the price fix option with escargot for appetizer, the aoli cod with vegetables for main course. The frog legs (appetizer) were great, the accompanying tartar sauce was quite memorable. For the main, we had steak prepared medium rare with a Bourgonnione sauce. It was cooked perfectly and the sauce was fantastic. We ended with their Mille foglie. Amazingly they had half bottles of wine (the 17 euro Bordeaux was quite nice) and ice cold water.
