My husband and I spend quite a bit of time at our local hardware stores! Between all our DIY projects, we make quite a few trips each week. We do not go to Ace's often, but they are a great spot when in a pinch and do have a great selection for most project needs, but their hours are lacking, which is why we don't frequent them more often. Unless you KNOW you need something and can get in during the day, they close by 6 most days, making it not a great option for after work. Regardless, other than the limited hours, the staff is so friendly, they are packed with all project goods and even have local food items and snacks. It's definitely a great option. They share a lot with Sprouts and have a gas station and the same lot, so honestly all the things you need in once place/visit if you are trying to make best use of your time! read more

Without reading another review of Rod's Ace Hardware this review is just a one and done. Visiting from California and needing some glue (specific). I try to choose a local independent and in this case it was Ace. Had what I wanted...perfect. Ace hardware overall is a clean operation from the floors to the tops of the windows. There staff for the most part are knowledgeable and attentive. Rods is no different. Unlike most big box hardware companies it's a pleasure to shop Ace. You don't have to check twice for a forklift or skip aisle because there blocked and you don't need an app. to map out your route. I'm retired retail of 33 years and Rod or whoever is doing the business training from the greeting at the door to the "see you next time " is doing a fine job. This place is fantastic. I've been going there for about 19 years, and always have a great experience. They have a reasonably good selection, but the main reason to go is the customer service. Employees actually ask if you want help, and are more than willing to spend time finding what you need, even if it's just a particularly sized screw, nut, bolt, washer, whatever. I like to refer to myself as an irregular regular! What i like the most, is the friendly and very helpful attitude of the staff. If they do not know, they are not afraid to ask the others! Another 'like', quick, easy in and out! Unlike the big box stores. Prices are usually nearly the same or very close to the big box stores. However, they do not stock pallets of plywood or lumber. I visit this store regularly. They've always had great help and friendly service. Today, however was different. There was no help available. It's lunchtime so I understood. The cashier moved like a sloth while ringing up the 1 customer in front of me. When I tried to use my Apple Pay it didn't work. By this time the line behind me grew by about 7 people. None of this is a problem. The only comment is the complete lack of care by the employee. I pity employers who are faced with hiring employees with no care or understanding of customer service. This store is a couple blocks from my home, so it's convienient when I need anything hardware. They are helpful and try to answer all your questions. Although they frown on it, I was able to return something the other day without the receipt. I really enjoy going to this Ace when Home Depot or Lowe's doesn't have what I'm looking for. Judi there is very kind and is extremely helpful. Now, as anyone who is in construction knows... Ace is very expensive. I was going to buy a 100ft measuring tape, it was $34 at Ace but only $23 at Home Depot for the same brand. Rod's ACE Hardware on Brown and Gilbert road in Mesa is the perfect place to get a "whatchamacallit" or a "thingybopper". The entire staff is FLUENT in Amateur DIY and projects that never seem to have a completion date. I went in to get Christmas lights, (yeah, about 2 weeks too late) and low and behold!! C-9, C-7, C-6 lights stacked to the ceiling! (OK. Maybe not THAT high) But they had them! Price per unit was the same as Big Box Store and after seeing the UNBELIEVABLE profits that were made by certain companies during covid-19, I really decided to focus on spending locally. I grabbed Christmas lights like hoarders grabbed toilet paper at Costco. I had to get a shopping cart to avoid juggling boxes and breaking the lights. The helpful associates shook their heads and after a collective sigh, asked if I needed anything else. (Ornaments, tinsel, a light up Santa and Reindeer for the lawn). Nope! Well, actually 2 big bags of salt pellets for the conditioner, which they loaded into my trunk for me! Do they have everything you need? Maybe not. What I've always loved about Ace in general -- and this one in particular -- is their service ethic. The people who work there know where everything is and, more importantly, how to fix stuff. Case in point -- I recently went to Ace to buy a new handle for my front door since the lock was broken. Jim (truly the 'Helpful Hardware Man') showed me some new handles (ranging from $25 to $100) and then asked to see the broken part. "Hmm, I think I can fix this. Can you wait a few minutes?" Less than five minutes later, I left the store with a part that worked like new. Total cost? About three bucks. Gotta love that. I've been a regular at this Ace for more than 10 years. Located next to Sprouts, It's clean, well-organized and they always have what I need. Prices are competitive with Lowes and Home Depot; score even better deals if you sign up for the free rewards program. read more

I come to this Ace all the time and have never had one bad experience but today was different I had the unfortunate lucky to experience Elvina for the first time. I was waiting in line and she was barking orders at an elderly employee about an in store pickup. I felt so bad for the employee no one should be treated like that at work especially the elderly. I than saw Elvina not only be extremely rude to the customers directly in front of me but she talked down to me as well. I'm no longer shopping here and until I know for certain that the people in charge of running this store are not only treating their customers and employees better but also leading by example. I really hope they can handle this I really enjoyed shopping there on a daily basis. read more

Great little store. Has the feel of a small town hardware store, but the convenience of being in a great little shopping complex anchored by a Sprouts Market. The store is well lit, well stocked, and slightly busy today! I did have to wait in a line about 4 people deep with one cashier, but she was quick and everyone only had a few items. read more

To start - I'm not at all the "leave a review" type of person but if I could rate this business less than a 1 star, I'd do so. Not only did they lose a potential sale, but they also lost a long time Ace Hardware customer. About a week ago, I came into Rod's Ace Hardware and purchased a smaller sized Yeti rumbler. Initially I though this would work for my needs, however upon realizing that it wasn't going to be the case, I made the ultimate decision to try returning the smaller rumbler for a larger one with the willingness to pay the difference for a product that would suit my needs. However upon trying to exchange it for a larger size today, I was outright refused under the assumption that the product had "been used" when it clearly hadn't been and included all original wrapping / paperwork inside. That was the response from the attending cashier, as well as from the smug jackass of a Supervisor that was called to assist. This is all regardless of the "60 DAY RETURN / REFUND / EXCHANGE" policy printed on every single one of their receipts as well as personally asking at the time of purchase if this was something that I could exchange for a larger size and was told "Yes." and nothing otherwise. What's the point of having a return / exchange policy if you're going to outright refuse to do so? As a long time Ace Hardware customer, I was excited that there was a location nearby however after this incident, I refuse to shop at another Ace Hardware. I ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SHOPPING AT THIS LOCATION OR GIVING THEM ANY OF YOUR MONEY. read more

I had my house painted in mid-November and because of the house paint I bought from Ace - 11years ago, yes the paint lasted that long. They did their best to provide me with enough paint - 18 gallons of the Royal - but when it wasn't possible they sent us to a different Ace store. I was able to buy the trim and door paint from them, however. Note to self - nest time let them know ahead of time the amount of paint needed and they will be able to provide. Ken, was very helpful. Love the place go there every weekend for supplies for projects however me being 16 for some reason I always get bugged about putting the prices down on the bag for bolts. I understand that a lot of kids steal from this ace but it just annoys me when I have never once thought about stealing a bag of bolts that cost me 2 bucks. Horrible customer service today!! My husband just got gone from a trip to this store and said 2 clerks having a conversation when he entered the store were obviously unconcerned about 10 customers waiting in line at the cash register!!!! Everyone looked frustrated and when he approached a clerk in the back of the store to open a locked cabinet of drill bits for him, the clerk acted terribly inconvenienced. *sigh* read more

I went into Rod's on my last wits trying to replace a fitting from my water line in the wall of my old house to the line going to my toilet. It was a very rare threading and after asking one person's help and he wasn't sure if they had the correct fitting, three other people at the store jumped in, brainstormed and found exactly what I needed. Started going here instead of the big box stores because its close to my house, the staff is friendly and efficient, and they honor veterans discounts. I have almost always found what I needed, with only a couple exceptions. For those exceptions I have to go to the big box. I have gone to this particular Ace hardware many times. It has always been very well maintained & organized. I've always received excellent customer service. I have been there several times to purchase glass for picture frames. They are always so helpful and make sure to use "scraps" they already have to ensure a lower cost. I recently needed a large amount of glass cut for a church project. I had shopped around quite a bit & Ace was by far the cheapest. The management, particularly Alvina, were wonderful to work with. They gave me a discount due to having such a large order, had my glass cut, boxed & invoice written up before I even arrived at the store. When I had a problem with two of the pieces of glass they immediately replaced them. I will definitely continue shopping at this location and would highly recommend them for any glass you might need. read more

Horrible management. Lady cashier didn't give me my change . When I asked about it she said she couldn't remember was her reply. I asked for a Manager. The rudest lady ever she said no way was i gonna get my change, until closing. Manager refused said it's store policy. I waited for a hour until finally they counted the register found my extra change rudely gave me my change and gave no apology.
