This was a cool little store filled with all sorts of candy, sodas, and toys, among other things. It was very organized and clean. Everything looked like it was well stocked. The candy was probably worth taking your time to look through. In addition to the everyday candy that you could find at all grocery stores, they also had a lot of candy ranging from retro, international, novelty, taffy and other unique varieties. I'm sure there was a childhood candy that you could recognize. I remember eating white rabbit candy as a kid but I never realized they had other flavors like matcha. They had so many different flavors of Kit Kat chocolates near the register. There were a lot of bottled sodas with rare flavors. Ever tried bacon soda or even grass soda? I wanted to buy a bottle but when I saw that it was full of sugar I decided to pass on it. I have cut back on sugary drinks and I'm not sure if they had any healthier soda options. The only thing I didn't like was this weird feeling that I was being watched whenever I picked up something. It was like if I touched it, I was expected to buy it. I was just really interested in looking at some of the labels on the candy and sodas. I did notice that a few of the items had short expiration dates so they had probably been on the shelves for a while so check those dates before buying. read more

My daughter always asks to go to park st so she can visit her favorite candy store, Rocket Fizz! I'm 33 and it's nice to go down memory lane seeing all the candies we grew up in the 90s/early 2000s. The price isn't cheap but not expensive, we consider it pretty affordable actually for the experience our kids seldom get to enjoy since there aren't many candy stores that exist now. We got our kids $0.99 candy necklaces, and the largest lollipop in the store at $7.99, so there are a lot of options depending on your budget. The ambiance is good, aisles is wide enough for me to use our stroller inside. The owner who is shown at the register looks intimidating but I promise he's really kind! when me and my friends first walked in for a quick stop we noticed that the person at cashier was staring at us and the place was kinda empty. I for one will say that I was being somewhat loud as a habit but I was really excited enjoying the store because of many old and vintage things in there. me and my friends walked around and then as we were about to leave my friend noticed a very big rubber chicken and she squeezed it. the tag fell off and stayed on the hook we both stared in shock as my friend looked at the rubber chicken in her hands, we didn't mean to make the tag fall off, but it seemed very thin and weak. and then suddenly the guy at the register came bolting at us and seemed very reasonably upset and probably pissed, but it was very over the top and threatening. he was saying how we "ripped it off" and demanded that we get out. I wanted to apologize and try offering for my friends damages but he just continued to tell us to get out, i wont lie I became nervous from everything so me and my friends left. i'd also like to mention how he asked us if "is something funny?" when we weren't laughing. about an hour? 30 minutes later? i decided to call and try apologizing for the mistake and he still seemed very upset and in a monotoned voice he said something like "ok, thank you". anyways I think me and my friend could of handled this situation better but I wish we weren't interrupted as we tried to explain ourselves. read more

I am hosting a birthday part and I wanted to get tons of unique beverages so I drove almost 2 hours to check this place out. I had been looking for drinks for the party online and they were somewhat difficult to find and very pricy so I sent a message to the yelp page asking some questions, but I was disappointed that I never received a response. When I arrived in the area, traffic was terrible and parking was non-existent, so if you are coming from a ways off like I was, just be ready for that. I brought a backpack and some carrying bags in anticipation of all the things I was going to buy but when I got to the door, there was a sign that advised "no pets allowed". I always travel with my small dog (one of the questions I asked in my message btw) and we were not about to leave her in the car, so my husband put her in a carrying satchel and I walked in to the store. I immediately started putting items into a cart and once my husband got our pup all zipped in, her entered behind me. I will be honest, the proprietor got up from his chair and it appeared he was going to approach my husband, however I put more items in my cart as I chatted to my husband and when the owner realized we were together, he sat back down. We must have browsed that tiny store for an hour. It's unbelievable how much they have in such a small space. I was able to get dozens of fun, unique beverages for less than half of what I would have paid online. (Honestly, when you add in my gas and time, I probably came out even but the adventure and being able to physically see the items was well worth it). The gentleman working was very friendly to me. He put all my drinks into carriers and helped me get them into my bags and backpack. He never said a word about my dog, but keep in mind I spent a good amount of money, so I would definitely not call this store "dog friendly". Overall, I am really glad I came. This store would be great for anyone looking for unique beverage flavors or bottles as well as any candy lover. They had lots of cute items on offer and prices were very reasonable. very rude and unfriendly. I went in after getting lunch with my friend next door. We were both in a good mood, and were excited to check out the shop. Imediatly upon coming the man behind the counter was staring at us in a strange way, maybe he thought we were gonna steal something. I am trans and I wonder too if he had an issue with how I looked? He got upset with me when I asked if I could throw away a piece of trash. And insisted I go outside to throw it away. It was pretty weird. He could have just said no. But he had like a whole pre programmed paragraph about why I couldn't throw it away. meanwhile theres a trash can by his foot lol. When my friend went to purchase a pack of candy at the counter, they discovered there was a defect in the bags seal at the bottom so a gummy feel out. He became very upset, and started accusing her of squishing all the bags. My friend apologized even though she did not ripe the bag or do anything wrong. She offered to buy it, but he grabbed the bag out of her hand and started ranting about how we came in to squeeze and touch all the candy. Then started saying, "Its not funny." Despite the fact that no one was laughing. My poor friend is so conflict averse she apologized again and offered again to buy it. Treating her like a criminal. Then he more or less kicked us out, saying she couldn't buy an undamaged bag. All in all it was upsetting and frusterating. Mainly because his reaction was such a shock. I went in there because I was craving some candy. The whole time the owners wife (I'm assuming) was following me through out the store thinking I was going to steal. I made it a point that I was not going to steal by holding my hands out and showing what I was grabbing. When I went and paid the total was $14.20 I paid and he asked if I wanted a receipt I told him no (my mistake) because the total was small. He ended up charging me $114.20. I realized it 2 hours later and went back to the store. He was rude and seemed like he didn't want to refund the money. I told him I'll call my bank now and dispute it. This candy store has been such a great addition to Park Street! There's such a great collection of classic candies and new stuff. There is literally something for everyone. On my second visit, I had a little more time on hand to look at the assortments of candy, bottled sodas, nostalgic posters and the plushies. I like the salt water taffy candy in several different flavors in the bins and the boxes of candy on display. Alas, due to health reasons, I cannot buy the sweets to consume. I have to tell myself I'm already sweet enough and don't need the added sugar. For me, it's diabetic coma if I bought bags of candy and eat them everyday. However, they have sugar free candy in a few small bins. I bought 15 pieces. It was pricey, 15¢ for one piece of candy. Total: $2.25. On the other hand, the assortment of the bulk candy would be good for filling up a piñata for children's birthday parties. read more

Having a sweet tooth, this was a fun place for me to visit as we strolled along Park Street. This is a busy place for the senses, so much to see here, on the shelves and the walls! They have a great selection of candy, sodas, and even vintage looking signs and other knick knacks. The candy selection is awesome, a lot of unique candies that are hard to find, that I haven't seen since a kid, and/or are from other countries. Well stocked with various sodas. I went a bit crazy and bought a bunch of orange and cream sodas. Some of the Boylan sodas you can get cheaper at Cost Plus but they do have some Boylan sodas that aren't found there. And they have lots of brands you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else. So if you're a fan of "gourmet soda" in bottles you might want to swing by. The store is about the same size as the Campbell one but here the shelves are fully supplied with lots of sodas. (Hopefully the Campbell one will get their supplies back up soon). Parking in this part of Alameda isn't convenient at all. But if don't mind a short walking there's free unlimited curb side parking on Encinal Avenue past Oak Street. That's where I parked. Owner seems like a nice guy. Saw this place from the outside several times, today I strolled in with my 1 year old daughter, who loved all the vibrant colors of the soft drinks and candy on display. Man at the store was friendly, I asked if he could hold a few things at the counter while we circled the shop and he kindly accommodated. They have a huge variety of soda and candy, found a few old favorites that I rarely see around anywhere anymore. Ended up leaving with a 4 pack of various root beers and a couple candies. Cute toys are thrown in there as well, so this place is for kids and for all those adults who are kids at heart. My husband and I included, so we couldn't resist checking this place out. We loved the colorful decor and wished this place existed when we were younger, but walking through the shop was an experience in itself. They seemed to offer candy across many generations, so I started feeling nostalgic when I saw the old fashioned root beer hard candy, salt water taffy, Jelly Belly, and all the different kinds of Pocky. It can be fun for kids but literally every time I've gone in (10 plus) I've felt uncomfortable, like stared down because my kids are having too much fun? I don't know. . Definitely one of of favorite spots to stop by when we are walking around Alameda. We always have to go in and walk around just because it's so much fun to see their awesome variety of candies, but their soda selection is great and they even have old toys and signs pinned on the walls. Last visit my husband got a few packs of baseball cards that had 20yr old gum inside ( he didn't eat the gum). I stopped in on a Sunday, to grab a few bars of chocolates and pick out some salt water taffy. I was on my walk and wanted a chocolate bar. The man by the counter, who I assume is the owner stared me down the entire time. I was one of maybe 3 customers in the the store...who are all adults. He watched everybody like they were going to steal something. He literally stood at the end of the counter and stares you down as you shop. It's really weird. He watched me and another man pick out taffy...and only stopped when he had to ring up another customer. At one point, I was around the front of the counter looking at the KitKats and I looked over and dude was staring right into my eyes. A real creep, seriously. I can understand if a bunch of kids were in the store. Maybe he had issues with shoplifters before. But as a grown woman, browsing without touching anything I wasn't going to purchase...it's insulting to be watched inside of a f'ing candy store. I spent almost a week in Maine this summer and couldn't even get my hands on some Moxie soda, so I was desperately searching for some in California and remembered this place I passed some time ago. I called the store and asked specifically about Moxie, and the man who answered (the owner I presume) confirmed so confidently, I rushed right over. Once at the store I was awestruck at the sheer variety of sodas offered. They seem to have organized the bottles by similar flavors and many were refrigerated. After some time I spotted the Moxie on a low shelf, not many in stock but one was all I needed. To make the visit worthwhile I also picked a few other flavors and upon purchase the owner puts the bottles in cardboard carriers that efficiently tote up to 4 bottles at a time. I didn't spend much time perusing the candies but this store is a real gem for those specific and rare novelty finds. I am so glad they are here! read more
