I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a sweet, old Asian man. The shop itself gave me donut shop vibes, very familiar and cute. They offer a variety of interesting flavors! I opted for a scoop of the caramel cashew ice cream. 10/10. I didn't expect it to be as good as it tasted but I'm happy with the first impression from the first bite. I recently went to the alameda loards, and I knew it was gonna be good when I was the line out the door. I think what I like most about this spot is the massive variety of interesting flavors. My boo got the ube flavor, and I did a milk shake with both ube and pandan. It was delicious and there were little chewy bits of ube and pandan in it, so you know it's legit. I LOVE this location! It is beautiful and it's sweet. The couple remembers me every single time I come in. My children can come in to taste samples of ice cream before ordering their sundaes and milkshakes. I love that they have so many flavors, everything is creamy and slow churned. I highly suggest paying the extra $1 for a super thick milkshake. It's a game changer. Also; a waffle cone or bowl is definitely necessary. They are fresh! As for a 5qt ice cream containers. You have the option to grab the pre-packed or get a custom pack. I sometimes ask for there to be a mix between Butter Brickle and sea salt caramel. So amazing. As for people judging the location. This location has been maintained for 20+ years. And not even a new door has been placed on this location and yet they have continued to bring in clean, happy and delight into the community. Although this isn't a new business I've only heard of it more recently. When I saw that they had ube I knew I had to go ASAP! Unlike other reviewers I didn't feel this to be a sketchy area? Maybe at night, not sure. But anyways... They had a lot of flavors to choose for from a pretty small shop (assuming they don't make it in house). I sampled the caramel cashew and thought it had a pretty strong caramel flavor and had a nice almost gelato like texture. However I came for ube and I'm a sucker for cookie (kookie) dough so I got a scoop of each with hot fudge. The Ube was good but nothing special. It had kind of an odd texture to it, was a little "rough" for an ice cream. I wish they would have made it more creamy and smooth. This is definitely not anywhere near up to par with Mitchell's ube, but not bad. Kookie dough was good but nothing special. Same quality I'd expect from dryers. The hot fudge wasn't really hot and was kind of watery with lots of air bubbles. The ice cream is really cheap though, my two scoops plus topping was just a bit over $4, plus the scoops were very generous. So with that in mind I justify that I get what I paid for, which was not bad but not worth going out of my way for either. Maybe the Alameda store is fresher? Their ice cream is truly a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I had always seen it but never tried it. Mainly because it looks a bit unkept from the outside. However, one day I decided to take my toddler. They have a pretty large selection of ice cream to choose from. I ordered the Ube for my son and cookies and cream for me. Both were really creamy ! I even purchased a pint to go. Overall my rating for the ice cream is a 5! However, the shop could use a little love from the owners !!! It looks run down. I love lord's Ice Cream. They locally make most of the ice cream that they sell and have many unique flavors not carried by other vendors. They are the only one locally, that I know of, that sells a good version of my favorite flavor - butter brickle. This specific location is rough around the edges and not in a great neighborhood. The ice cream is so good that it makes it all worth it. I go out of my way often when I am in the east bay to stop at one of the lord's locations for some ice cream. read more

I love Loard's Ice Cream. I been going since I was a kid and have been to at least 4 different locations. Their ice cream is rich and creamy. I especially love their Pecan Pralines and Strawberry flavor. So sinfully delicious. They make great traditional flavored ice cream. Not trying to be different and fancy like Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone Creamery. I will always prefer Loard's over any other ice cream parlor. I like to get a scoop on a waffle cone or get a quart container for home. For the quality of their ice cream, I think their prices are reasonable. Also, they give you plenty of ice cream. Not the vibe you want when getting ice cream and she charges way more for the milkshakes than the sweet lady over at 2825 MacArthur. Her husband is a lil nicer but he varies as well. So I don't go over their even though it's only one mile from my house. Customer service is everything on top of yummy ice cream. They also don't don't follow their hours of operation. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The guy working there was SO RUDE!! He barely showed interest in wanting to serve me and started yelling at me that I can't sample anymore more of the ice cream because two samples is the limit. When I asked him why didn't he tell me this when I first started sampling, he ignored me and tried to move onto the next customer (there's only me and one other customer in there so it's not busy). This is a cute Loards by my house. I think Loard's makes some of the creamiest ice cream (try the Pecan Praline) and tastiest sherbet (my fave is Champagne) around. I can get the jr. scoop ($2) and get my fill of ice cream--a good value. My fiance loves this place because he can get a "brownie sundae" here, and you can't get that at any other Loards, as far as I know. This place also has inexplicably donuts, coffee, and candy. The owners are very nice. If you're in the area, go--don't let the gas station scare you away. I've been to this Loards day or night and it's been just fine. read more

Nothing wrong with the ice cream but the staff's attitude is horrible. I was ordering a kid scoop size for my son. She asked what kind of cone my son wants so my son said he wants the sugar cone. As i know the sugar cone is normally an xtra charge. So i asked her to make sure if she charged more for the sugar cone .what she responded me was" You need to pick something you can't put it on your hands". She is so damn rude. I go to this little place once in a while because it's within walking distance of my house. The people serving there are always nice and the ice cream is pretty good. But whenever I get unusual flavors like green tea (things that aren't very popular around here), you can tell it's been sitting in the freezer a little too long. It's only a few dollars a scoop and they have a nice little assortment of candies. Only other complaints I have is that it's usually incredibly hot inside the store, making you want to eat your ice cream elsewhere, and the gas station across from it is really loud. And they're cash only, which I forget sometimes. But it's a good little local place to go anyhow. Got to support the little guys. read more
