I bought a Chevy Spark from Rock Solid Auto. I drove it for about two weeks after a noticebly bad oil leak and had to bring it in for repairs. The repairs took several days. I was told that a cap had not been screwed on tight enough before leaving the property. The Chevy Spark had absolutely no power after maintenance. I understand that it's a 4 cylinder small car but I had to press the gas pedal down to the floor of the vehicle in order to get it move at a stop light. I returned the car to the dealership and wanted to leave but was talked into looking at another vehicle. I chose a 2012 Chevy Equinox. The stem connected to the key fob control was held in place using Insulating Foam Sealant. Soon after the key stem completely fell out of the fob causing numerous security issues where the battery had to be reset. The vehicle began to smell like fuel inside of it and I took it into the dealership for repairs. About a week of repairs went by and I was told the catalytic converter had been replaced. I drove the vehicle away from the lot and it kept honking like a duck. After about a week of this and the scent of fuel, I took the vehicle back to Rock Auto and complained about the issue and mentioned there was a noticeable loss of engine oil as well. The vehicle was in the garage for several weeks. I was told that it might need a new engine. The P codes were 0014, 0138, 013E, 0140. It was given a new oxygen sensor, new catalytic converter, crankshaft seal, tensioner, timing guide, solenoid, timing valve, cam phaser, timing set and actuator. The garage put the vehicle back together and still had cam exhaust issues. After more work it was found that the timing chain was broken/loose and of course timing was off due to this. The crank and intake cam was also moving freely. The exhaust cam was locked up and was hitting the cylinder head. The vehicle was put back together and only driven three miles due to low gas level. BUT it was apparently okay to drive and repaired? I picked up the vehicle but as everyone else is stating in their reviews, I had to eventually take the vehicle back for a third time because the smell of fuel was still inside the vehicle, the oil was still coming up short in the engine and when the cap was removed it would smoke. Eventually I had to get the vehicle towed back to Rock Solid for a third time because all the electrical had gone out inside and outside the vehicle, and I had no gauges to read, no headlights, no tail lights. To put it short, I had one vehicle which I returned due to defects and malfunctions, was given another vehicle to drive which was just as bad mechanically as the first. I did a voluntary surrender of vehicle to Rock Solid and however they sent me a notice that they repossessed the vehicle due to failure to comply. The letter was dated 15 September 2021, and the company planned on selling the vehicle on 15 September 2021. Which leaves me without the option of arbitration. Rock Solid Auto claims that I owe $899.96 and if I want my collateral back I have to pay that amount. I have no collateral that I need back because I put $1000.00 down on the vehicle and I did not do a trade in. You really should get your stuff together because: 1. Two lemons off one lot. 2. Mechanical work on both vehicles and they ran worse afterwards. 3. Admittance that the vehicle could be burning oil because it was bought at an auction. 4. Both vehicles were in for mechanical work more days than I had them in my possession. 5. Initially was going to allow me to break up my down payment into several small payments. Summing it up: 1. At least 2 attempts were made to fix a warranty issue that could have resulted in a serious injury or death. If I had been going at top speed on the freeway and the timing belt broke, it could have caused an accident. 2. More than 30 days were spent in the garage at the dealership for repairs. Our family has purchased four vehicles from Rock Solid over the years. The dealership is great, the service department is very helpful, but do NOT use CSA to finance! We have had repeated issues with CSA not updating car insurance renewal information, resulting in being overcharged due to not having insurance. Their financing company CSA is completely clueless, with the exception of Tim Thrift. This issue however, is not about Car Insurance renewal. We upgraded to a car from Carvana with about 7 months left of payments. Carvana requested a 10 Day Payoff Form so they could pay it. CSA supervisors had no idea what that even was. One would expect that a legitimate finance company would know what it was. Using MS Paint, or some similar, they put something together. Carvana said they needed Per Diem included, so another form was issued by CSA. On 2 April they took the payoff from Carvana. On April 5, they took a payment from our bank for $207.69 Mistakes happen, and I understand that. I called that morning, and emailed Tim. Like every time one calls some place like this for security, I had to verify identity with my complete street address, and the make, model, and year of vehicle. I can understand that. However, it seems the representatives put NO NOTES in the customer records, so EVERY TIME I called, I had to go over the complete timeline of the issue AGAIN. This will become extremely irritating with the number of calls placed. Tim replied: I have sent to Dan and Rich the supervisors to research. Thanks will follow up. April 15, having heard nothing, I left voicemail for Dan and emailed Tim again: The Payoff to CSA was completed by Carvana, but the following Friday saw the usual payment to CSA. We have yet to know the disposition of this over payment. Please advise, thanks! Tim replied: I will look into this. I sent your request to management to research again. It might be best if you call in tomorrow after 10 am and ask fro Daniel the supervisor. Since I have done all I can. Thanks On the April 16th I got a representative on the phone. She said they would refund the 207.69 that was taken within 7-10 days. May 6th still nothing. I called again, left voicemail, and emailed Tim: It's been WAY over two weeks, and we've yet to see any refund on the automated payment taken out by CSA after Carvana paid off the 2010 Hyundai. I've not heard from Richard, nor anybody else except you. Please advise. And again May 8: I called on April 16 as you instructed, but Richard was out. The lady who spoke with me said it would take 10-14 days for reimbursement. Unfortunately, that's not yet happened. Monday May 6 I called, and also yesterday, finally reached Dan at about 4:45 pm , who told me he'd call me back in a few minutes. Around six pm, I left voicemail in the general voicemail box. Is there someone else I ought to be contacting? I need those funds returned to pay other bills. Please advise. I left more voicemails for Dan, and also emailed Tim a few hours later: Sorry to keep bothering you about this, but you're the only person at CSA that has efficiently and expeditiously provided answers and information to me in the past. I've still not heard from anybody about the overpayment taken by CSA on 5 April, when Carvana paid off the vehicle on 2 April. As mentioned, I have bills due, and need those funds returned like, two weeks ago. Please advise Tim replied: Yes I know I have sent multiple emails to both Dan and Rich. Both of your emails today. I cannot do anything more. Call in and ask fro Dan. Sorry Thanks So I made more calls, and left more messages. Dan finally called, and said that the issue had 'slipped through the cracks'. A check was being issued that day. On May 11, I received a check for $196.00 $196 is not $207.69 WAS I BEING CHARGED FOR THEIR MISTAKE? I called and emailed. I called and emailed A LOT. May 13 email to Tim: I received a check on Saturday like Dan said I would but it appears to be about $11 and some change short. attached is a screenshot of our bank showing the amount 207 removed whereas the check I received was 196 please advise I left a message for Dan as he is not in the office today Thanks much And on May 14 after more voicemails: greetings Tim I just left another voicemail on the general voice mailbox at the CSA number I did not get to speak with a representative still trying to reach Dan still trying to find out why that refund on the overpayment was $9 short thanks Tim replied: HE IS AWARE AND IS IN A MEETING I WILL HAVE HIM FOLLOW UP ASAP It must have been a helluva meeting, cause I still have not heard from him. Soive brought my car here several times with issues. Last one was the alternator. They supposedly fixed it but 2 months later I've put 2 new batteries and I'm still having alternator issues. I bring it in because they try to schedule u for weeks ahead and I get attitude l the way around. He says because my gas is low that's why I have to jump it! I currently have a contract with them and a warranty but my car has been down for a month Steve, the GM, will not honor the 2000$ warranty or replace the vehicle. Wants to buy the Nissan pay off that loan to only start a new loan with all new fees. So he can make money and I lose money. I was lured in (borderline harassed with the number of constant communication attempts) by an ad that said everyone is approved, that down payment would be $300-400. I mention I would be taking an Uber and they offered to pick me up... until Josh didn't pick me up and I took an Uber anyway. After wasting three hours of my time, collecting sensitive information, etc, Josh wants to joke how he has good news and bad news. Um, in what customer service environment is that even appropriate!? Suddenly the deposit was going to be a thousand bucks and I find myself waiting for another Uber. Interestingly enough is they offer refund anticipation loans on taxes. I went in with my 18 year old daughter who was looking to get a car. She was working part-time but was recently hired on full-time with another company so she felt this was a good time to get a vehicle. I agreed to cosign for her even though I had another loan because I knew she would be responsible enough to pay her own car payment. I asked if the payment schedule could be made to my pay dates since I was working full-time but I was told that it could not be made to any pay schedule other than my daughters however once she did switch her job to the full-time job she would be able to contact the finance company and change your payment car payment schedule. My daughter made her first payment and when asking about switching dates the representative for CSA very rudely let her know she got a bad salesperson who lied to her and also told her the payment schedule could not be changed for 6 months. I just felt this goes beyond a bad salesperson because I was present for these questions and not only did two salesman give me this info directly but also the finance manager as well. My daughter got her car but to what expense because now she must figure out how to schedule payments a week early as do I being the co-signer. People who go here are already needing assistance or they would've gone to a bigger dealer, but outright lying is just poor customer service. Sales does not have to equal manipulation and lies. Never get stuck with a extended warranty with them. I mean any type of warranty it is your right to refuse! As soon as you need them to check your vehicle because of a checked engine light you'll have to wait weeks before any work is performed on it causing you to drive the vehicle without knowing your damaging the vehicle even more. This place is the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked. I have crap credit, I get it....that's why I was going here to get a car. From the get go, I really liked the experience and the two guys I dealt with, Chris and Monte, were great. Of course, this was on the Saturday I went in expecting to leave with a car. They would pull anything to sell me a car right? So for what it is worth, after Chris takes down our information...basically which was just us filling some things out for him. He took it, or maybe submitted it, on Monte's behalf (the store manager) and we sat and waited in anticipatin. We were then welcomed into Monte's corner office for the debriefing so to speak. After being put through the ringer, and basically being put on blast for having poor credit (maybe just my perception) Monte comes through and hooray got us approved!! Or , at least, he made it seem like he went to war for us with CSA (the auto loan company) and won on our behalf. We had $300 down, which is what we were told is all we needed, but the minimum down payment had to be $800 which was going to be split in half, $250 in two weeks, and $250 after that. Then the regular payments would begin. M onte had the perfect car for us, a PT Cruiser with barely 50,000 miles on it. I was estactic and very happy at this point. We took it for a test drive, and everything worked fine. We came back and signed the final papers (which was recorded via video...) it took forever, but we were out of there and headed back home. About....two weeks later I get a call from CSA asking for the first payment. I told them I still had one more down payment to make then the contract payments would begin. They disagreed with me, but when CSA brought up the paper work they noticed a clerical error made on the part of Rock Solid that had to be fixed. CSA took the time to make RS awar, and I received a call from Chris 2 days later. Chris was nice and told me we had to come back in to sign the paperwork again. I told him this was an extremely busy week and I would try Friday or Saturday, which he was completely fine with. The week gets closer to Friday and Chris calls again, this time with an attitude that we NEED to get in to Rock Solid to sign the papers again or :gasp:... he won't get paid!!! i told him on the phone that's not m fault, but i'll see you on Friday. I came in and signed the papers again. My plates were late because of this so that's just icing on the cake. Now! The car started over heating. The issue began in August. We brought it to the extremely busy service center (they only work on dealer cars) without an appointment and were told they would get to it within a day or two. If you're following a theme in this story they did not get to it in those 2 days. We dropped it off on a Wednesday morning and got it back on Monday. No rental. We were first told that the issue was something simple and covered by the service plan....so awesome, no cost to us!! Then....when i did not hear back from anyone that day, I called back again and al of a sudden when they were testing the car out the fans blew out! Wow, can't believe it! (sarcasm), and this would cost us about $180. I had no choice to pay really, so I told them to do it and we paid the ransom. The best thing about this incident was how the service manager (I assume) told me he would work on the car on Saturday and there's a good chance it would be done then. Guess what? Only one guy showed up that day and did not do a damn thing to my car. So I called over to Rock Solid who I knew was open, and asked if anyone from service was there. I was told "No, only one guy came in and he left at 11". So as i expressed my frustration I was handed over to Monte. I just started explaining my issue and he cut me off telling me basically he did not have the time to hear about the issue right now because it's a Saturday in the car business, and he would take down my # and call me back. So i told him I know he could not do anything for me, but I was just looking to find out if anyone was there as they promised. He would then call me back, took my # and hung up. My phone rand about a minute after and I answered to hear Monte complaining "you wanted me to call you back and you aren't even answering your phone" with an attitude. But see the thing is, I answered. I gave him my name like he asked and said "Oh I remember you". and promised a call back. I never got it. I got a call a week later after i sent an e-mail, all he wanted to know is that everything was fixed. I told him it was, and he was happy because he was about to go home that night. He then told me to contact him with any other issues in the future.....which is what I did yesterday for the following issue. Last night, my wife called me and told me the car is breaking down. the engine light just went on and the car shut off. Don't buy from here, I'm regretting it. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Steven Lynch - Dealership Manager you "asked" me to write a review so here it is!! To make a long story short my car was in their shop in less than a month from purchase and has been more than 6 times ( I have only owned the car about 8 months),...that alone should scare you! They give you reassurance in buying these over priced high mileage cars by forcing you to get their 24k / 2year warranty and please don't forget the free oil changes.. Well if you work traditional hours like most people M-F 8-5, their 3rd party servicer who does the oil changes ONLY offers these hours for oil changes there are NO Saturday appointments as they don't service on Saturdays. This is such a high standard dealership that you have to go to them first and get a "business" card as a voucher to take to the 3rd party servicer for your oil change. Ultimately within 8 months my car shut off while I was driving on my way to the dealership for repairs.. They towed the car in for free ONLY to tell me that the NECESSARY PART THAT MAKES MY CAR START, DRIVE AND ETC is NOT covered under the warranty. I have contacted the dealership manager who assured me he will look into the matter, find a resolution and call back but of course he didn't. I have emailed the customer service department who has ignored all of my emails. I have called Steven back several times and he won't call back.. Jeremy in the service department offered to waive the labor ONLY BECAUSE he is aware how many times my car has been brought in but I would have to pay for the part.. Let me break down issues: *Car SUPPOSEDLY had NEW tires though mismatched (they wouldn't give me a matching set) but within 7 months I had to replace 2 of them *Brakes are squeaking replacement recommended so of course there wasn't new pads on the car when they sold it *Car has repeatedly yet random issue with going into reverse leaving me stuck at times.. BUT dealer told me since they couldn't duplicate the issue at the shop there is NOTHING they can do about it!! **This new issue which has left the car NON OPERATIONAL is controls the air intake system.. if its broke, you cant drive. My car has a computerized engine disabling system which activated while I was driving and cut off in traffic PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BEING LATE ON A PAYMENT OR NEEDING AN EXTRA DAY TO PAY BECAUSE the finance company they use doesn't allow it and will disable your car promptly.. If none of this is enough to scare you take heed that the cars are so overpriced you aren't able to refinance because you are so upside down.. Buyer Beware: I purchased a lemon a while back & RSA and CSA agreed to replace the car after a long battle and taking the car to my own mechanics. Had the new car one day when the engine light came on. I returned the 2nd car and went to a real dealership (Horne Kia) and bought a brand new car. I never went to Rock Solid because of poor credit in which they prey on good descent down on their luck folks, and pride themselves that they are doing you a favor by building your credit. They supposedly had a 2008 red Kia Sedona which is what I was looking for in June 2012. (currently looking into if RSA actually had the make and model or if that's a lure tactic they use) They did not have the car and I was initially talked into the car I did buy which had numerous issues. In the first 6 months I went through 10 tires on the car. Warranty never covered it and it wasn't until I took it to real mechanics at FireStone that said my towcam needed replaced it was broke as well as the bushings and an alignment needed to be done which I had already paid for at RSA to do but whoops they forgot. After threating to sue, they supposedly did the work and did reimburse me for the cost at FireStone. They would not have done this if they didn't think they were in the wrong. After that it was the Cam Shaft Sensor which again the warranty did not cover and the car is only 8 months into my purchased date. Then a cross wire in the turn signal killing the battery which again, you guessed it! Not covered by the warranty. Then the cam sensor goes out and they could not fix it. It was brought in Oct 2013, again in Nov 2013 and a month later in Dec and again in Jan and then Feb I kid you not. I took my car to Chrysler and found out what the problem was myself paid the cost for the diagnostic and then brought it back to RSA to tell the mechanics how to fix a cam sensor. It needed to be programmed in. WTF. . .really? Also I was told the bushings are broke and I needed two new tires. During one of the times I brought the car in for the sensor issue I had them change the oil and the following month when the sensor went out they said it was just a loose wire due to oil on it. I asked where the oil came from and they did not know then a month later when I brought it in for the same problem with the sensor cam they said I needed a tune up due to oil and guess what my warranty has just ran out. I had my brother do the new spark plugs and wires and he says "did you have an oil change recently?" Why yes I did why I asked? "That's why I have oil all over they did a sloppy job and split oil everywhere. This cost me a fortune for the trouble it caused! Then after the sensor is finally fixed and I'm think I can put all my worries aside I need an emissions done for my new tags and it FAILS! So CSA gets involved and wants Chrysler to relook at the car to find out why it failed and they will pay for it because obviously they no longer have faith in RSA service department. Chrysler said the car needed a whole new engine so RSA and CSA said they are going to get me into a new car and take care of the car I had and start me with a whole new loan. I was asked what kind of vehicle I wanted and they would find one for me. When the time came they did not have the car I wanted and gave me a choice of three but one smelled of stagnant smoke and by the time I finished test driving the one the other was already sold. I was told if I did not take what they were offering me my car with the bad engine would be repo'd & I would then not qualify for another loan so I was backed in the corner and took the only car I was given to choose from. Less then 24 hours the engine light goes on and I took it to O'Riely's and it's the transmission. I called RSA and I'm told to take it in to the service department on Monday. I went on Sunday, Mother's Day to Horne Kia & bought a brand new Red Kia Soul as I am done doing business with RSA. I surrendered the car back I got on Friday this past Monday 5/12/14 and contacted a couple lawyers. I am in the process of file a complaint & requesting an investigation on RSA with the Attorney's General's office & writing a complaint with the BBB and Chamber of Commerce. I am looking into who the congressman of my district to also aid in my plight with RSA. I received an email back from a reporter who would like more information & may be interested in writing an article about car dealerships that prey on consumers with poor credit and are selling lemons! As promised to the sales manager who asked me to go on Yelp and write a positive review if he got me into another car taking care of the car with the bad engine, although it's not a positive one I did promise I would write a review and I am holding up to my word and have written one. I would like to invite anyone who has been in my position with RSA to contact me and join me into protecting other consumers from being ripped off! Me and my boyfriend needed a car desperately to get to work and home. Went to rock solid and spoke with Bryan. He had us go out and look at some cars that we wanted. But then after a while he brings us this car that we didn't even see out there. At the time it looked nice since this is my first car. At our appointment, he didn't explain anything that is wrong with the car. We didn't even know this place sell USED CARS. Didn't tell us anything!!!! Except that it's a unibody frame. So some time after taking the car home it worked amazing. But we noticed that the buttons on the steering wheels didn't work. They gave us a manual that wasn't even ment for the car. And one of the keys they gave us didn't work. About a month or two after purchasing. We were at the grocery store and the car just dies in the parking lot. Didn't crank on or anything. We had to get it towed. They fixed it for free saying that there was "no oil in the car" and there was a cap or something missing. Like what we only had the mfka for 2 months! How could you sell us a car with barely any oil, and a cap missing? That type of stuff should have been fixed before selling it to someone. We've had the car for 9months now this will be the 3rd time getting it towed. The wheels are also very old like they aren't new. Eve had 2 tires that needed to be fixed and now they are messing up again. And also our car is just shutting off on us, making sounds, almost like the car is worn out. I rather pay $400 something a month for a car that works properly and I don't have to be scared to drive it because it'll break down or our wheels will go flat. If you have poor credit and need to get a car, they can get you into one. The salesman Chris and Monte are very courteous and personable. That's about all the good things I can say. They work your car deal backwards. They figure how much credit they can give you and then let you know what cars on the lot fall into your price range. Expect to pay a very high interest rate and too much for the car. The service department is a joke. Yes, the car will come with two years of free oil changes, but ours rolled out of the shop with the minimum amount of oil in it. The only reason we even checked it was because of the issues with the brakes and we thought it would be a good idea to check the oil too. When we took the car in for service (ok, thats just an oil change, don't let them fool you), we told them that there was some noise during light braking and asked if could they look at it. They said the brakes looked a little dry and they greased them. Grease on the brakes? They said it was on the back of the pads to prevent noise. Yes, that's a normal thing. Well, when we drove away the noise was louder and the stopping distance reduced. I ended up taking a wheel off to look at them myself. One of the lug nuts was only finger tight. There were 5 loose lug nuts between the four wheels. They had applied so much grease between the pads and calipers that the grease had started to soak into the pad friction material and some was getting on the rotors. That explained the reduced stopping distance. When I took the brakes apart to clean and properly lube them, I found that the brake caliper bolts on the passenger front were barely more than hand tight. On the driver front, two small metal shims were installed backwards and one small spring was missing. That spring gently moves the pads away from the rotor when the brakes are not applied. So that explained the brake noise. The car now brakes quietly and stops better than ever. I also discovered that the tie rod end boots were split, losing grease and needed replaced. if a car is brought to a mechanic (sorry, a "technician", a mechanic would have caught this stuff) with noise under braking, a full inspection would see the obvious problems and notify the owner. When I called the shop I told the manager, Jeremy, what I had found, he asked if I had taken it to another shop. I said no, I did it myself. After that, all he said was he would talk to the technician. His attitude seemed to be that since I did it and not a shop, I didn't really know what I was talking about. For full disclosure here, I am a veteran race car driver and have built several cars from the frame up. I just didn't have time to look at it myself that week. We will not take the car there for anymore work, plain and simple. read more
