Such a disappointment multiple times. Calling getting misinformation. I was told I can get a money order rather than a cashier's check for an amount of 2100.00 not true has to be a cashier's check and I received a call stating my account is in the rears. So where do I start..... It's way too high , they cut your car off. They dnt care if you have kids who are sick or nothing. I got this car which is a salvage title (I never knew) my bank Navy Federal wouldn't refinance it due to its being a lemon pretty much. I got this car April of 2023 and this car cut off on me on the freeway n Az. Due to the engine being bad. Thank God for the police officers the helped me get my car off the freeway safely. My son broke his arm in June my car was off due too me losing my job . I was one payment short and they still didn't turn my car on even when I told them about my oldest son. I had to call the paramedics to come get us. Now it's July 15th and my newborn butt and genitals is bleeding and I need to at lease get to the hospital. I've been making my payments for the last weeks on time so I thought I would be able to get an extension just needed it for a few hours. I just walked to the hospital with my two toddlers (1 and 4 years old) and my newborn. I couldn't call 911 I already owe so much money from me having to call them when they cut my car off when I was having labor contractions. I WOULDN'T GET NO CAR FROM THEM....I done spent too much money on a car I can't even drive when I'm only a day or two late. When it's ppl with a carnote from other places that haven't paid in months and they can still get drive there car. AS OF TODAY , IM DONE WITH MAKING PAYMENTS. IM DONE WITH THAT CAR. THANK GOD FOR OTHER DEALERSHIPS THAT WILL WORK WITH YOU. Im getting my new car next month. Lord knows walking with toddlers and a newborn isn't easy especially in 117 heat. Waited in the drive thru for over 10 minutes without being helped. I pushed the "call teller" button over 6x. Ridiculous waste of time

While trying to deposit money, the Drive in ATM took $20 from me without retuning it or adding it to my account. Went inside and the women that "helped" be told me because I don't have an account I have to contact my bank to dispute it. How in the world do I dispute a cash transaction? As many have said in the past, if it were possible to give this business no stars or negative stars, that is exactly where we would be. Lets start with their two "system" changes that resulted in text notifications associated with an account being deleted. This was the primary type of communication I counted on from Desert Schools and within 2 years they cancelled all text defaults because they "changed systems". They did not take the time to have those installing the new system migrate the customers' text notification preferences and instead required each of their customers to handle it on their own.....and if they didn't, "oh well, we notified you!" Then the pointless, disastrous and extremely expensive rebranding of the perfectly fine Desert Schools institution. Not sure who came to Desert Schools from Wells Fargo but when they did they were able to convince the board that Desert Schools needed a new name, new colors (I mean color - orange was added, literally - even the "D" is a hold over from Desert Schools) and the ever so famous "Relationship Banking Rewards Program" Trust me, this did not make me want to give Desert Schools any more of my business. In fact, being with them for 15+ years they did not even grandfather longstanding loyal customers accounts and because I refused to give them any more of our business, we got the "reward" of possibly paying $7 each month for our checking account. It amazes me, that checking their marketing material today, I read all about their "Free Checking" and they do not explicitly tell what is required to get that "free" status in Fargo's Relationship Reward program! In fact, their disclaimer simply reads as follows: Primary account holder must be 18 years or older and meet Desert Financial's membership eligibility and credit qualification requirements, including opening a Membership Savings account with a minimum balance of $25. Checking is free; however, fees incurred - such as a stop payment of NSF fee - will apply. For complete terms and conditions, refer to the published Statements of Terms, Conditions and Disclosures booklet. I could go on and on but just know that credit union formerly known as Desert Schools is gone. When it departed it took all of those reasons that we joined a credit union with it. If you want to start a relationship with Wells Fargo Jr., this is the institution for you. Otherwise choose one of the many other credit unions that are all throughout Arizona and still act like the local credit union that you want to use for your financial institution. read more

They Are Difficult to Work With I called to have my password reset for their online banking. After verifying my name, date of birth, social security and address, they required several other items. It should not be that difficult to get access to my account online. I understand the need for security and think name, DOB, SSN and address are reasonable requests. But there's a line between cautious and difficult to work with and they've crossed it. read more

I just opened an account here and already regret it. I deposited a paycheck several days ago and the funds are not available yet. When I called to inquire, I was asked to verify the following information... 1. Account number 2. First & Last name 3. Address 4. Last 4 of SSN 5. A recent transaction to my account 6. Business or personal account ANNOYING. That's too many questions in my opinion. Next I was told when the funds would be available. I understand business days are taken into consideration, but I will not have access to my funds for 7 days after the initial deposit date. They have a "hold period" of up to 10 days! Side note, I deposited a check issued by the same account just a few days prior. That one cleared much faster for some reason... If you actually want to be able to spend your money, I'd avoid this place. read more

Recently looked at purchasing a second home and shopped around quite a bit. Have used Wells Fargo and Desert Schools for smaller loans in the past and prefer Desert Schools. They're local, they're service very friendly and we have been impressed with their attention to detail and to us. Typically I've found credit unions that promise impeccable service and leave you short handed on tellers when you're in a hurry or near lunch; having less presence of financial experts to assist in their facilities. This has been proven opposite at Desert Schools for us. We appreciate their services and will continue to borrow from them in the future. I like this particular location because the tellers are always very pleasant and quick. I rarely go into banks since I prefer to deal with direct deposit and electronic transfer. However, there is the occasion where I get a check from somewhere and need to deposit it. It also gives me a chance to ditch work for a little bit; just don't tell my manager! The big bonus for me is that when there is a line waiting for the regular tellers, they have the person at the front desk take your deposit if you don't need any cash. read more

Went in to pay off a loan via shared branching. Needed to have them fax confirmation of cash payment to my credit union to expedite a title release. I've now called five times and still not had the confirmation sent to the proper receiving party. When I called the fifth time, I reached a central hub and spoke with an extremely rude female who hung up on me when I requested to be transferred to someone at the specific branch I'd gone to earlier in the day. Long story short: I will NEVER do business with this institution again. I know financial institutions are notorious for bad customer service, and I've dealt with my fair share of banks and credit unions in the past; this one takes the cake for absolute worst customer service. read more

My first Yelp review of a financial institution. What can I say? It's a credit union. I've been with them for many years. My other bank is USAA. I only dinged Desert Schools a star due to them not being able to renew my ASU Sun Devil's check card, due to another bank taking the sponsorship deal. Minor I know, but it cost a star! Friendly staff, fairly efficient drive through, although I hardly use it any more. Coolest thing, the drive thru ATM gives out $50 bills when you take out a larger sum of money! I usually go through the drive through because I find it easier than standing in line. BTW. Home equity line of credit was mentioned during my last visit, but be aware, with the new tax law, the interest you pay is no longer tax deductible. read more

I wish I could get a hour with the people who run this show. I know it would be useless. I know they would laugh at me and go back to their business and roll their eyes at me but the chance to vent to them still would feel good. I opened my account when I was 17. In over 20 years as a member I have never once had a negative balance. I have never once bounced a check. I have had car loans through them. I got my first credit card there. It was a "learning card" and had a $300 credit limit. Before they sold it to a big bank it had a $16,000 available balance. To say I take my credit seriously is an understatement. I THOUGHT that all of these points would get you something here. They came out with this new tier system and have the brass balls to write it up like they are doing you a favor and you should be thrilled and even GRATEFUL that you are their customer. But what was clear right away was the only thing they gave you "points" for was being in serious, stress-inducing, lose sleep, going bankrupt levels of debt. They base everything off this system. If you need a money order for instance. They base it on your score. If you are a lowly turd on their sheet (as it appears I am now) you get to pay some hiked up stupid amount. But if you are willing to buy a home you can't afford, park a car you can't afford in the drive way. Carry a couple of high interest credit cards from them. Well they are going to give you that money order for FREE!!! Because they are such wonderful people and they truly have your financial health in mind. Add to going to a branch means the ATM is probably broken. The person who greets you looks behaves like and extra from "The Walking Dead" There is MAYBE 2 people serving the 15 people in line. The look on the eyes of the employees is usually a mixture of "save me my life sucks" to "get out of here and kiss my butt". How a place like this has fallen so badly in these years is not what amazing to me. It is happening all over the place. The fact they have survived being the little guy in this industry is what amazed me. I thought they would be the place that tried to hold on to their values. I thought they might remember they were the credit union started to serve the teachers of Arizona. Nope. They are as greedy and as heartless as the big boys now. Ask yourself if it is worth it before you come here thinking you will be getting something better than where you currently bank. I DOUBT IT! read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. I would recommend avoiding this credit union if you are looking to get a loan. My wife and I contacted them regarding a home equity loan. The department that processes the applications is completely inept. After much time and several failed attempts to clarify information we gave up on them. I would avoid them at all costs! read more

The service I received here was outrageously bad. I went into this branch to pay off a loan, after speaking with DFCU on the phone to make sure that I was following the best steps to get this taken care of. Not only was every branch member wrong about follow up information that they gave me, they were rudely obstinate about being right. Ten minutes before the close of business later that day, they called me to let me know that they were, in fact, wrong, and that it was too late in the day to correct the mistake that they made, resulting in a 5 day delay on a thing that I had paid them to expedite. Of course, no apology was given. My loan with them has been paid and I'm glad that my business with this bank has been closed, forever. read more

I hear my friends complaining about their banks and telling me about all of these problems, and I can't sympathize with them because I have never had a bad experience with DS. Note: this review is generic to DSFCU and not specific to this location I just closed my auto loan, checking account, and savings account FOREVER! I made on-time payments to my auto loan for FOUR YEARS from my checking account. Then last month they tried to automatically pull a payment from my account for an amount greater than the usual payment amount and on a date different than the normal due date. They claim they sent me a letter warning me of this. But WHY would they do this? It makes absolutely no sense! I have every monthly statement they've sent me for years except for this alleged notice to take this oddly scheduled irregular payment. Despite my on time payment history for years they ding me for late fees on my last payment which they scheduled irregularly! Beware! Why bank here and risk hurting your credit history when there are many other choices? read more

I would avoid this bank and this branch, so long as people with no tact for Customer Service continue their poor service. I have had so much trouble with this bank and trying to get good service and then yesterday was the last straw. I haven't been able to access my account for many months. Other things made the account unusable like the limited banking hours and the lack of transportation to get to the bank, since you are forced to go into the branch if you can't get into your bank account online, which happened way too often. So I just decided to close it and when I did, the female teller was very nice and efficient but evidently so new that some guy had to stand behind her, take over all her transactions and be so unhelpful that I couldn't close my account fast enough. read more

I am a huge fan of Desert Schools. They are really nice and great to bank with. I worked for them years ago and I can attest the employees go through great training and really do a great job at helping their customers. I recommended everyone switch to a credit union especially this one! The lines are never super long, even on Friday afternoon. I have never had a major problem like I experienced at other banks. The other major bonus is they have branches inside Wallmarts open all day Saturdays. read more

Had to stay with them long enough to switch my direct deposit to my other bank, unfortunately, which gave them enough time to snag another month of fees from my account, but whatever, now I'm free! When I went to payroll to let them know I was switching, they said they'd heard a lot of complaints about Desert Schools and their new program. When I went to the bank, the teller asked me why I was closing my accounts. I told him "Relationship Rewards" and he said "We're hearing that a lot". I guess they're getting what they wanted, though, higher fees, more debt, and more defaulted loans, as the guy behind me in line wanted information about getting an auto loan so he could "move up a level".
