Simply incredible from start to finish. The restaurant is located on top of a building that overlooks Central Park, the nucleus of New York City. It's gorgeously decorated. In fact, if you visit the museum store on the first floor you will find some resemblances of bright colors and modern style. The dishes follow the same flavor of decor. Colorful, designed stunningly on a plate with absolute deliciousness. I was floored. Completely unexpected, they went above and beyond. The pastry chef (his name was on the menu but I forgot it, unfortunately) should get a food Oscar for desert designs and taste. Incredible! A bunch of us (5) went for lunch to this place on the ninth floor overlooking Columbus Circle after looking at the artwork below at the Museum of Art and Design. (They always have an interesting range of work and the opportunity to talk to a few of the artists.) it had been a couple of years since I had been here and for my friends it was the first time even though they live in the area. It was a good thing that I had booked a table as it was rather busy, it being a weekend. As expected, we had a range of drinks and food. We settled on some wine and Prosecco and large sparkling water. There was one order of soup, chicken paillard, a large wagyu burger, a salmon special, and a chicken sandwich, all which came with various fixings and garden greens. All the food was tasty. Four of us had different coffees to round up the meal. The intermediate amuse-bouches were also just right. The dishes were all well presented adding to the discussion and enjoyment of the meal. I have always liked the vibe and decor of the dining area with its view of the city. Our server, Alayna, and her helpers were attentive and helpful. Not inexpensive, the check came to $322 to which I added a $58 tip. It was worth it. I will return when I am next in the city. read more

It's Restaurant Week, so what a great time to take advantage of Robert restaurant ! It was a freezing cold winter day and Robert really warmed us up! The actual restaurant is smack in the middle of Columbus Circle and located on the 9th floor of the Museum of Arts and Design. When the elevator opens up, each floor is another exhibit. Once the elevator opens you are transformed into a whole new world. This was Sunday afternoon and they had a wonderful pianist playing very nice and relaxing brunch music. And the view is really the center stage here. You look out into Columbus Circle, up Broadway and over Central Park. The pianist and view alone was worth the price of the meal! It didn't go unnoticed. We had a very attentive server, Chris, who helped make our dining experience a memorable one. With the Restaurant Week menu, you can select 2 courses for $45 and it's plenty of food! I ordered the appetizer of Bananas Foster French Toast for my "dessert" and had the Salmon Croissant as my main dish. Both items were very good and, honestly, after the croissant, I was stuffed. We didn't feel rushed and paced ourselves for the show we were seeing right afterwards. My friend ordered the Chicken Sandwich and had the chocolate ganache cake. She was very happy with her selections too. The table next to us was celebrating a birthday... what a perfect place for a celebration. We even had time to check out the lovely museum gift shop on the first floor. I'll have to visit the museum at another time. All in all, Robert was an elevated dining experience. My holiday party was held here. As you enter on the ground level, they take your coat and bags. You then enter the elevator to the 9th floor. You're immediately hit with wonderful skylines views and dim lighting. The place is very spacious-- obviously the layout was different than a typical evening due to this being a holiday party, but it's spacious. The food was okay-- I had the sea bass, turkey, roasted vegetables and a piece of mushroom ravioli. The staff was excellent and very attentive. You don't go more than two minutes without an offering being presented to you. They had two didn't bar set-ups, they worked quickly to get everyone their drinks. Love this place. I had been here years before with family and had had a great time. Back in the city and wanted to get into a New York state of mind and go somewhere with a view. And here I broke two of my cardinal rules: 1) if you enjoyed a place a lot, best not to revisit it because the second time often it does not live up to it and best to keep the memory untarnished and perfect 2) places with a view rarely have great cuisine. Well Robert is the exception/ great view and cuisine! And dinner lived up to expectations set by my wonderful recollection last time I was here. Great menu with lots of gluten free options and staff very attentive to my son's gluten allergy. Service was excellent with very attentive and helpful staff - moving us to a table with a view when one freed up. Delicious food, beautifully presented, and really enjoyed the amuse bouche and complimentary petit fours from the chef. For the view, cuisine and service I thought it was excellent value for money. Instead it was sweet and the only thing from herbs in it, were sage and thyme floating in the drink, making it not very pleasant to drink. The crabcake was really good. The crust was a bit too hard though. Didn't come with a lemon for some reason. There was a smear of balsamic reduction, not sure why as it didn't quite go with a crab. Side salad was tasty but a bit rough because of raw cabbage. The onions in it were a bit our of place and too overpowering. My wife & I loving dining with a view. Robert is now an added favorite under that category. Located on the 9th floor above the Museum of Art & Design, as the elevator doors open you are already inside of the L-shaped colorful restaurant. The wine collection and floor-to-ceiling windows immediately catch your attention as they provide a perfect view of Columbus circle. TIP: Reservations can be made online, but if you call them directly you can request a window seat and they will guarantee it. We had an early dinner (5pm) before a show and the restaurant was not full. There were small children in the restaurant, so I would say it's family-friendly. Classic jazz played at a low level where all could have conversation. There is also a baby grand piano in the restaurant and they have live music on certain nights. Service was top tier. Glass never empty. Used plates were cleared quickly. All that should be expected of a high end restaurant in this neighborhood. Management checked on us and the chef sent our table complimentary Tomato Gazpacho as well as Tiramisu. Both delicious. Which leads me to the food... Everything was fresh, creative & very good. Burrata, crab cake, wild bass & risotto. I felt the risotto portion was rather small. Time spent was just over an hour as we enjoyed the views of Columbus Circle and the southwest corner of Central Park. Service was fast and we would definitely return. Went back to Robert again this past Sunday afternoon, and it's still one of my absolute favorite spots in the city! Walking in, I was greeted by the familiar sound of their live piano--it's such a vibe and one of the things I love most about this place. The food, as usual, was on point. The crab cake is a must-try--make sure to pair it with the sauce, it's perfection! I got my go-to Amish chicken again, and it was just as good as always: super tender with spot-on seasoning. The steak was a little salty with the sauce this time, but honestly, it's perfect if you eat it without dipping. One thing I adore about the chef here is how they always surprise us--whether it's a little amuse-bouche during the meal or a complimentary dessert after. It's those touches that make it special. We lucked out with a window table right as someone canceled their reservation. The view is stunning, day or night, especially on a gorgeous day like Sunday. Robert definitely leaves a lasting impression. The elevator whisked us away to the top floor and when the door opened up, we were treated to a sweeping view of the Columbus Circle. I loved the whimsical and beautiful dining space, colors and art installations. It's quite spacious inside and of course the seats by the window facing Columbus Circle are coveted, so make your reservations well ahead and request. We started with complimentary amuse bouche of duck pate with a tiny cup of butternut squash soup, a preview of fabulousness that is to follow. The food is seasonable so the menu will change periodically. My friend and I shared two types of salad (beet quinoa and pear and fig) both solid and plated beautifully. For entree we shared the squid ink lobster pasta (so much lobster meat!) and halibut. The fish was cooked perfectly. We were both happy with the choices. Then as we finished the meal and about to start the dessert course, live jazz music started. The desserts were plated beautifully and so fancy! If you want to celebrate a special occasion or you want to impress someone visiting NYC, you can't go wrong with Robert. I saw a lady having a basket of fries and a cocktail by herself. She's probably a regular but I loved seeing her enjoying her fries and cocktail while listening to live jazz over Columbus Circle. So chill!! As far as service, it was impeccable. Very warm and inviting atmosphere, not stuffy nor snooty. If that dining experience wasn't enough, you get a free access to the Museum of Art and Design in the same building with your meal. The view and live piano music are both lovely. They give very nice ambiance to your evening. However, the food and service were a bit lacking. Our server seemed to have too many tables and no help (ie no one to refill water glasses or bus tables in our section), so the service was a bit slow. I was curious to what the restaurant above the museum was like and when we got there, I couldn't help myself from asking for a table so we sat, enjoyed the view, and had dessert. Well except for my daughter who only wanted fries. They had Pumpkin Cheesecake was absolutely irresistible. Since the flavor is out of seasons it felt like a no brainer with a push of cravings to get it. I also enjoyed a fruit bowl and I must say, their presentation was fabulous! I had no expectations and was incredibly blown away. The pear was fresh and crisp. It was sweet without being too ripe. It was a is of berries apple and pineapple. This would be lovely for breakfast. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, there were several available tables for two, including tables by the windows overlooking Central Park. There were also empty tables right next to other guests who were already seated. Despite that, the manager walked us past all of those available tables and seated us in a completely different section of the restaurant, in the farthest corner, against a wall, noticeably separated from the rest of the dining room. The experience left us feeling excluded. There was no apparent reason to walk us through the entire restaurant only to seat us in an isolated area while so many other tables were available closer to the other guests. After noticing that I was clearly uncomfortable, the manager offered to move us. Although he seated us closer to the other guests, he still did not offer one of the available window tables. During our meal, we watched other guests who arrived after us being seated at those very same window tables overlooking Central Park. I do want to recognize the waitstaff, who were outstanding throughout the entire meal. They were warm, attentive, professional, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Their service was excellent and stood in complete contrast to the way our seating was initially handled. I cannot say what motivated that decision, but the impression it left was extremely negative. No guest should leave a restaurant wondering whether they were treated differently because of their appearance. read more

We had requested a better table when booking, and despite empty tables being available, we were told those had to be specifically requested--something we had already done. Oh well. On the bright side, the drinks were solid, appetizers were ok and the lamb chops were flavorful. The bouillabaisse was completely lacking in flavor. Desserts also didn't impress. Started the evening with an amuse-bouche and complimentary bread baskets. We ordered the mushroom barely soup, jumbo lump crab cake, squid ink linguini with lobster, lamb osso bucco, and pommes puree. We assumed the soup would be creamy, but it was a clear soup with bits of crunchy rice. The crab cake was the star of the show - huge chunks of crab meat paired with a delicious sauce. The pasta sauce was a bit too salty for my liking but came with a heaping portion of lobster. Service was great for the most part. Elevated, classy atmosphere and great views of Central Park are the main draws for this restaurant; food is average run-of-the-mill American/Italian and priced high for small portions. Great spot if you're looking to kick back in a luxe setting and enjoy a slow conversation with coworkers/family. Avoid if you care more about the food. Started with an amuse bouche of vegetable samosa pieces. I was surprised to see these here. They were cold and seemingly unnecessary. For appetizers, the burrata ($18) was a more sour than usual which put me off; the crab cake ($23) was better but not memorable, and the "Thai coleslaw" it came with was rather flavorless. I struggled to identify what was distinctly Thai about it. We were a table of 4, and since each appetizer is supposedly portioned for only 1 person we doubled up both orders. Both are skippable. For mains, the filet mignon was decent, done medium rare with some diced roasted root vegetables on the side. But almost $50 for a pretty small piece of meat sent me. The gnocchi ($34) was disappointing; weak pesto flavor and we didn't take to the abundance of ricotta cubes, so we barely touched it. Chilean sea bass ($45) was good, but I would have liked to see more mushrooms since the menu description listed a couple. Squid ink linguini with lobster ($41) was a little bland - what "spicy" lobster sauce? Overall, tiny portions across all of these mains, plated decently but lacking in flavors. The desserts were delicious (when are they not?). Chocolate lava cake ($17) with vanilla ice cream and raspberries - a classic you can't go wrong with. The apple tarte tatine ($16) also came with vanilla ice cream and some dollops of apple puree. We closed out with complimentary chocolate caramel truffles. Service was patient and mostly attentive throughout the two hours we were parked there. I had to flag servers down a few times to get empty plates taken away. This place was quite expensive for the quality of the food, but ultimately, it's the whole vibe of the colorful, artistic interior, light jazz music, white tablecloths, and Central Park views that you're paying for. read more

Robert is on top of the Museum of Arts and Design, with impressive views of Columbus Circle and Central Park. We'd made reservations in advance but unfortunately were unable to sit by the windows with views. We still had a very enjoyable meal in this spacious and stylish restaurant. We ordered the Rigatoni ($25+), Lobster Roll ($21+) and Scrambled Eggs & Caviar ($28+). The complimentary basket of bread and muffins was a nice addition. The food was good, but the highlight for me was the festive atmosphere and Easter treats. They had a cotton candy stand, where they offered free cotton candy. And during our meal, an Easter bunny came around, waving and posing for photos. It is a smaller space and the tables by the windows are a little cramped, which is not surprising so more people can get the views of Columbus Circle. The service fluctuated from quick to slower. The restaurant occupies the 5th floor of this building. It is beautifully decorated with contemporary art and has a very artsy vibe. It's very colorful, but not in a loud way. The appetizers and entrees were phenomenal! We ordered the grilled octopus and 2 orders of the avocado cups to share. They were delicious! The especially loved the avocado cups because they were so refreshing! The octopus was very tender and perfectly seasoned. We ordered 3 entrees to share: the shrimp with crab meat, dorade (fish), and squid ink pasta with lobster. Of the 3, my favorite was the shrimp dish. The lobster pasta was supposed to be served with a spicy red sauce but it was not remotely spicy, maybe a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the spiciest. Overall the dishes were nicely prepared and beautifully presented. We ordered a variety of desserts to share as well. They were pretty to look at, but not the best in terms of taste. The raspberry tart was not tart at all. It was overly sweet. The panna cotta tasted grainy and did not have a smooth texture as I would expect from this type of dessert. The opera cake was probably the best of the 3. It was very rich and decadent. I would revisit this restaurant for their appetizers, drinks, and stunning view of Columbus Circle.
