Thanks to the VIP program, I was able to exchange them within the 90-day return window and work with Travis again. Travis is knowledgeable, patient, and great at explaining how each shoe moves and supports your foot. Based on his demonstration, I switched to the Brooks Glycerin Flex, and I'm glad I did. During a run, I stepped into a hole in the pavement, and I truly believe the stability of the shoe helped keep the injury from being much worse. Road Runner Sports is an excellent resource for runners and athletes because the staff considers your stride, foot strike, comfort, and activity level--not just the shoe's appearance. The prices are comparable to other retailers, but here you also receive expert guidance and the added protection of the VIP return policy. Important: This review is specifically about Road Runner Sports' online sales and customer service experience, not their retail stores. I'm a VIP member of Road Runner Sports, so this experience was particularly disappointing. I placed an online order in early August for a pair of shoes that were on backorder, with an expected shipping date around mid-August. From then on, the expected shipping date kept getting pushed back week after week. Each time I followed up, I was reassured that the next expected date would be honored and that my order would be prioritized once the shoes became available. Based on those assurances, I decided not to purchase the shoes elsewhere. Unfortunately, these shoes are in high demand, and by the time I found out Road Runner Sports could not fulfill my order, they were no longer available elsewhere either. Today was the latest date I had been told to expect the shoes. When they didn't arrive, I contacted customer service, only to be told that the shoes were out of stock and that my order would simply be cancelled. To be clear, my frustration is not about the cancellation itself. I understand that inventory issues happen. My frustration is with the repeated delays and assurances that led me to believe my order would eventually be fulfilled. Had I been given accurate information earlier, I could have made other arrangements and purchased the shoes elsewhere. What made the situation even more frustrating was that customer service was of very little help, and despite specifically asking to speak with a customer service manager, I was not given the opportunity to speak with one. As a VIP member and loyal customer, I expected better communication and ownership of the issue. I would have much rather been told upfront that the order could not be fulfilled than be given repeated expected dates and assurances, only to end up with a cancelled order and no shoes after waiting for more than a month. I hope Road Runner Sports takes a closer look at how it handles backordered online purchases and customer-service escalations. This experience has left me very disappointed with the online sales operation, even though this review is not a reflection of their retail stores or in-store staff. read more

My husband purchased a pair of shoes and custom insoles in October. They have been wearing sideways, so he came in for some guidance. It was out of the 90 day guarantee window, so he did not expect a free pair of shoes, more guidance on why they're starting to do that when he was told the insoles will help combat that. The young lady that helped us said the insoles were cut wrong, and asked the manager if he would replace them, as they were done incorrectly. The manager said no, as it was out of the 90 day guarantee window. Should the insoles had worn down because of my husband, that's different. Because they were cut incorrectly, that is the stores fault, not my husbands. The young lady asked if he would like his old (cut incorrectly) insoles in his new shoes. Why would that help if they were cut incorrectly? We left with a new pair of shoes, no insoles, and very dissatisfied. I would not purchase custom insoles here, as they are not what they are marketed. read more

I've always had an incredible experience here and this time it was thanks to Marcos. We came in to find shoes for my mother-in-law, and the level of care he provided was truly exceptional! Marcos was incredibly patient and genuinely caring throughout the entire process. He noticed my mother-in-law was wearing a 7.5 wide and although it was a good fit, suggested an 8 wide instead to better accommodate her feet. And it was! She felt more balance and less tension and it showed on the treadmill when she was able to increase her MPH. He didn't just stop at the size, though; he performed a full walking analysis and constantly monitored her stride to ensure the fit was perfect. Even though the store was incredibly busy, Marcos never rushed us. He must have gone back and forth to the stockroom at least a dozen times to pull different options, knowing full well we were only there to buy one pair. He personally swapped her insoles into every single shoe she tried on--and we probably went through about 8 different pairs in various sizes. His expertise really shines when he talks about the technical side of things, like toe-gap and overall comfortability. On top of the technical fit, he has a great eye for aesthetics; he picked out colors that perfectly matched my mother-in-law's personal style. It's rare to find this kind of dedicated service. I came in for a fitting just to see what's wrong with my feet since I always get pain from standing/running too much. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful and set me up with Jawan for my fitting. Jawan was knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth and incredibly helpful. He explained the 3D image scans and pictures of me on the treadmill to let me know my gait and tread. I then tried on 4-5 different pairs of shoes and even though the first pair already felt great, he had me try on all of them to find the perfect fit, explaining what each shoe did and why I probably liked/disliked them. I tested the shoes out on an all day adventure to San Jose and Great America and didn't once feel feet pain. The shoes were really comfortable and had way more tread/grip than the crocs I've gotten used to wearing since all other shoes I've tried gave me foot pain. I ended up with Brooks Ghost Trails which are running/hiking shoes and I love them. Was a great experience and will definitely be back, even though Jawan called me out on my Chucky socks which probably weren't doing my feet any favors. read more

I want to preface my review by saying that my rating is only for the customer service. The customer service was outstanding, but the overall satisfaction is severely lacking. I was looking for new shoes that were appropriate for both weightlifting and treadmill. Jocelyn was super helpful and kind in helping me determine my foot size and what shoes would be the best fit for me. She determined that I needed extra wide shoes for one particular brand, so she went ahead and had their warehouse send it over. I got a voicemail about two weeks after my visit that the shoes had arrived and were ready for me to pick up. I ended up not buying, and it's because Road Runner pushes an annual membership fee, which includes returns up to 90 days after purchase if I end up not liking the shoes, no matter the condition. I noticed before they put in the request for the warehouse, they had two different retail prices for shoes: One was regular retail price, and the other had a discount with a membership. When I went in today, I was about to pay for the shoes, and the employee asked me if I had ever shopped before, and I said I had never bought shoes from them before. The employee then asked if I knew anyone who had a Road Runner account, and I said no. That's when they pushed a membership sale and explained their policies. I asked if I didn't want a membership, what would happen if I had a change of heart with the shoes. The employee told me that I wouldn't be guaranteed a refund/return, and that the shoes would have to be in immaculate condition to be eligible, and the employees and store had the right to inspect the shoes. That sounds so arbitrary and the membership seems to basically buy a refund if you want it. I don't find this place worth it at all, and will probably buy from the brand directly. read more

I'd had my inserts done at the Berkeley location and it ended up that they needed to be switched out, thus enter in the Concord location. Since we moved back to Walnut Creek, I've just been bad about visiting this location versus the Berkeley location, so it was wonderful to walk in, explain the issue and have new inserts quickly made for me. I go here to get fitted about every year where they analyze your feet, have you run, and you can get fitted for cushioning and try on their recommended shoes that fit best for you and your running or walking needs. They have a variety of shoe brands and options. They also sell apparel, and running goods too. I usually get extra cushioning. It can get busy here especially after work when you're looking for assistance. But they let you take your time and you can run around to try the shoes on. They have a great VIP service plan and family plan for discounts and 90 day return option. I've gone through brooks, aesics, on clouds, and saucony. They have hokas and all of the other brands too. The staff are super friendly and helpful! Parking is easy as it's located in a large shopping plaza. There isn't much ATT phone service in the store. There's a bathroom and fitting room as well and you can get your running essentials like gels and bars. read more

I am really bummed to be writing this bad review. I have a 10K to run this weekend and it has given me the courage and motivation to try to run a half marathon in the coming months! It's been on my bucket list for years now, and I finally feel like I am at a place physically and mentally where I can do it! I felt that I needed to invest in some good running shoes, so I immediately thought of Roadrunner Sports! I visited the Concord location several years ago and thought it would be great to get fitted for shoes again. I was really looking forward to coming to get fitted for shoes and was planning on buying shoes, insoles, socks, and anything else they recommended in order for me to achieve this bucket list goal of mine. The moment I walked in Estefania approached me with an abrupt greeting. In the first 60 seconds of our interaction, I could tell that she wasn't happy to be there and it made me also not happy to be there. I almost thought about asking for another associate but everyone else seemed to be busy at the register or with another customer. I figured maybe she was having a bad day or needed some time to warm up so I tried to make some conversation with her about running, shoes, etc. like I was the one trying to sell her. But, she was sticking to her script of questions she needed to ask me, to the point where she seemed annoyed when I "interrupted" her spiel. I understand being professional, but she was being borderline rude and it made me question why she would choose a sales role if she wasn't going to at least be enthusiastic about what she's selling or act like she cared about her customer. She went to ring somebody else up at the register, and I was waiting there for probably about five minutes needing to have questions answered about the shoes I was given to try on. I had also asked for a larger size and she hadn't brought them yet. I saw another sales associate giving her customer more detailed information about her shoe choices, let her try them on the treadmills they have, etc. I ended up asking her if Estefania is always this abrupt and borderline rude. I was shocked to find out Estefania is a manager there. I understand you might be busy, but you don't need to treat a nice customer badly that is there to buy $180 shoes. After waiting a few more minutes with no help I decided to walk out. I was really bummed that this interaction took all of the joy out of me finding a new pair of shoes to reach this goal of mine. read more
